I am disgusted as to how they treated me tonight. I understand that Orange County is bound to be full of racists due to the people in this particular area and I'll be honest it's not the first time I've been treated like this being a Latina. I just can't believe it happened here, I've been here plenty of times before and have never had this issue happen. I ordered a salad over the phone for pickup and when I got there the line was at the door to order. So I went to the pickup window to grab my order and was told I had to wait in the back of the line to pay, which I obliged to (although if I'm doing a pickup I should be allowed to pay at the pickup window like I have many times before). Two minutes after being told that, a white male walks in goes straight to the pickup window like I did earlier and was given his order and allowed to pay and bypass the huge line at the order window. He wasn't told to get in line to pay for his phone order. No he was treated like I had expected to be, with good service. I was so upset but didn't want to create a scene. So when I got to the front I asked the gentleman why I was being told to go to the back of the order line and why this man was able to bypass the entire thing and pay at the pickup window. Of course he didn't have an answer for me other than "well he shouldn't have". I paid and left and personally I will never be returning here and this place has lost my business. I was about to leave that order there but I didn't want to waste food. I just won't ever be returning. The food was okay here not great and nothing amazing. How have I never reviewed one of the best places ever?! Paul's Place has been a favorite ever since I discovered this place over a year ago with my husband. I've always been a fan of diner food but never found one that truly felt diner-esque. If you know what I mean. The food here is so delicious. If my arteries clogged and I had heartburn all night from the grease and oil, it's all worth it. Lol, jk. But in all seriousness, Paul's Place fits the description for what diner food should look and taste. I had major cravings of french fries, fried zucchini, onion rings, juicy, tender burgers, fried chicken, orange bang, etc.! PP offers all of that and more. The portions here are huge and although some may argue it's a bit on the pricey side, you definitely get your money's worth here. Some leftovers too. I love their broasted chicken dinner. (Call in advance since they need to prepare it ahead of time.) It comes with your choice of soup or salad, fried chicken, garlicky garlic bread, potato strips. I substitute their fries for fried zucchini. The breading is the right amount of consistency where it's not overkill and the zucchini is cut thick. Among the many things we have tried here, it's done it's job to have us wanting more. The one thing that stands out is their diner sauces. They have multiple options including salads, sandwiches, breakfast items, Hispanic food, etc. They also have some pretty good shakes that you can actually sip out. Love coming here! this restaurant really hits the spot. i was craving a burger and this place really delivers. I ended up getting the blue cheese bacon burger and fried mushrooms both for only 14 dollars. some places charge like 10 bucks just for the burger itself. this is why i enjoy diners so much since you really get the most bang for your buck. The burger was really delicious and sizeable. They did not skimp on the blue cheese at all. The bacon had a nice crunch to it and the patty was juicy. The fried mushroom was a great snack. It looked kinda weird, with the white cheese on top.. but regardless it was still an excellent side dish to pick. Maybe next time i'll get the fried zucchini. You definitely should ask for ranch, it'll make any deep fried veggie taste 10x better. They also have a small outdoor patio, and people were eating when i was picking up my order. They've gotten real stingy with the sauces even though we pay $36. They also can't seem to stay consistent on how many sauces you can get for free versus pay. The fried zucchini are a must try here! They are crunchy on the outside and warm on the inside. Not too salty either, so it's a good combination at $6.99 for an order. All their portions are huge, so we got lots of leftovers to take home. I'd recommend sharing for one order because of the portion size. I would also recommend their green salad for those who want to eat healthy. Super fresh and you get all your vegetables for the day. We came on a busy Sunday. They said the wait time is about 45 minutes, but our order came in well under that time. The staff are friendly too, and they call your name as your order is ready so you can go pick it up. I was a usual at the Paul's Place in Anaheim (on Magnolia), and ever since I moved I missed it! Luckily, this one is not TOO far. I was craving their chicken gyro and it did not disappoint. I was surprised to find that it taste just like I remembered it despite the different location. This location does not have a drive-thru like the one in Anaheim, but it is a whole lot bigger. Employees were really friendly and quick. I went in during lunch time and there were already a few people waiting for their to-go orders. There were some people dining in. Something I DIDN'T appreciate was the fact that there wasn't a barrier between me and the people dining RIGHT behind me as I sat on the bench waiting for me order. I only happened to notice because I heard someone cough RIGHT behind me. Personally, I would take social distancing into consideration with the "waiting" area, and the dining tables located in the same area. Otherwise! I've come to this place many times (dine-in) and never have any issues. Staffs were always great and friendly except last night. I called-in orders for pick-up. I ordered 12 pcs roasted chicken, feta fries, grilled cheese sandwich and a side order of sweet potato fries. I asked the person on the phone to repeat my order just to confirm. I overheard her say "4 pcs chicken" so I corrected her stating it should be 12 pcs, from which she agreed. Half an hour later, when I went to pick up my order, lo-and-behold, there were only 4 pcs of chicken. I have to let the person in the counter know that I ordered 12pcs and not 4. They called out the person who took my phone order for clarification and she straight out lied saying she repeated my order and that i said 4. So I have to wait another 20 mins or so to make the rest of my order. I get it. It takes a while to cook the roasted chicken and I get it, you guys are closing in 45mins. I get it, you are probably tired and can't wait to leave but this is the mere reason why I asked you to repeat my orders to avoid any misunderstanding. Having this kind of customer service reflects poorly to the restaurant. I can even see from recent Yelp reviews too, the many 1-2 stars given and it saddened me because their service used to be great! Paul's Place is a hidden gem in my opinion and will forever be a staple in my family! One thing I'll say is that their menu can be quite overwhelming because they have SO many options but I suggest you go with a large group and share a lill' of everything. I used to love eating at Paul's, but today was really disappointing. The "gentleman behind the counter" (GBC) had a very loud voice and every time he reprimanded someone, the whole restaurant knew. We thought we were fortunate that there only a handful of cars in the parking lot at 12:00 on a Sunday, Although there were maybe 6-8 tables with people in various stages of their meals, most empty tables needed to be bussed and were dirty. We sat down at a mostly clean table and waited for our food. Our name was called and my husband went to pick up our food. The food is now served on paper plates with plastic utensils. My husband ordered bacon and eggs with hash browns and toast. The plastic knife wouldn't even cut through the hash browns and the bacon was limp and greasy. I ordered French toast with eggs and bacon. Our table only had a pepper shaker, no salt; and the pepper was empty. I went to 2 other dirty tables before I found a salt and pepper shakers with something in them. They were basically empty, but I was able to get enough out of them for my food. The iced tea was always fresh brewed and really good. Not so this time. It was funny tasting, like it had sat out all night. Suddenly the GBC announced they they were out of trays, and again, the entire restaurant knew. There weren't that many people in the place, so they only have 10 trays? The calling out of names was so loud and obnoxious. Just from us sitting and eating our food, I know that an order was supposed to be to go, but was put on a precious tray in error because the customer added an order to his phone order when he arrived. I know that an employee had to be back from his lunch by 12:50, because GBC told him. This place had pretty good food with a great vibe between the music, decor, and friendly staff. Our visit was so far off the mark today I wonder if Paul and his wife sold the business. We'll give it another try, they definitely deserve that. Anyone can have a bad day. Note to GBC- use your inside voice when reprimanding coworkers. Not everyone needs to hear what happens behind the counter. Paul's: please find another option of notifying customers when their orders are ready. Having GBC loudly yelling names over and over without giving someone a chance to get up from the booth and walk to the counter to get their food is pretty damn annoying. read more

All food is cooked to order and food is delivered fast and piping hot! I have to admit, this place has some of the tastiest and most crispy fried chicken around! You order the Broaster plate and it's either a 2-person shareable meal or you got plenty to take home with you. 4 pieces of perfectly cooked half chicken, steak fries, potato wedges, garlic bread, onion rings, and another side!! Burgers are griddled, so you don't get any smoky flavored patty, and it really could use something to elevate it from a McD-like meat patty. Overall I do like the place and food is very good, however, I don't know if they are always overcharging me. There have been times where some workers charge me for every single extra item, and there are some workers that don't. I think the manager guys charge for extra sauces, however I do notice that she gives other white people sauces at no charge. I'm not sure if it's just because regulars, but I thought at this point I've been irregular and never question being charged extra. I just don't think it's Equitable to be playing favorites. Having lived and worked in the OC area I have visited a couple of Paul's Places (Buena Park, Anaheim, Cypress etc.) but the one in Orange is the cleanest and has the friendliest staff by far! This particular location does not have a drive thru but they are just as fast when you go in and place an order to go. The prices are very reasonable and the portion sizes are ginormous! Every entree can be shared with at least one other person. Highly recommend the fried zucchini and the club sandwich.
