I have been coming to this place for a long time (since maybe 2001-ish?), when it was called Espresso Royale. I love reno they did a few years back but I am not loving the menu as much. This seem to have changed some of the best items, and it's not as good somehow. Still hipster, still cool, but somehow different. This is a 4 star place but because it was a 4~4.5 star restaurant before and is now less....I gave them 3. I will adjust this in the future if see an improvement. read more

I love coffee. I love coffee so much, some might say I'm borderline addicted/obsessed. That being said, Pavement (The Coffeehouse Formerly Known As ERC) is my go-to coffee shop every time I venture up to the Bean. All the hipster care and consideration that goes into the perfect brew, without the throngs of Berklee students that mar my drinking experience at the other Pavement on Boylston (formally being one of those Berklee students, I understand how annoying we can be). I don't often come here for the edibles; they can be a bit overpriced, albiet quite tasty. Nothing beats a Sunrise on whole wheat everything, or a lox and cream cheese. What keeps bringing me back are the espresso drinks. The Spanish latte is incredible - a must have (depending on my current state of caffeine addiction, I occasionally get an extra shot). If you're ever around, ask for Kyle Boston... He's the coolest of the cool. read more

Cute coffee shop with good breakfast options Ambience: nice ground level cafe that is small and seats maybe 10-15 at any given time. Service is pretty efficient and the servers are all pretty nice. Perfect location for anyone wanting a solid cup of coffee and a quick breakfast at Hynes. Food/Drink: Their veggie sunrise is great with what appears to be a microwaved egg, sharp cheddar and spinach on your choice of bagel. A little pricey but a good breakfast. Good drip coffee, and pretty good price for Newbury Street at $2.50 for a large. Cayenne ginger ale is unique, definitely has a kick, great for a hot summer day. Came here to study with a friend; small tables in the front and bigger tables in the back with outlets all along the walls. Only bad thing is that free internet is only available for an hour, and if you want to stay longer, it's $5 for all day internet. Other than the internet limitations, no complaint. read more

Pavement is my go to place for an awesome coffee and breakfast sandwich. Stopping by here early in the morning before work usually puts me in a great mood to start the day because of the friendly staff! I won't forget the time when I was about to order my usual, but one of the baristas already knew what I wanted! I felt like they really remembered me and I can't lie that made me feel special haha. My favorite coffee to order there is the death cream! Which I just recently found out about...and thank goodness I did! I asked for the most caffeinated coffee they had and one of the baristas suggested I try it. I haven't ordered anything besides that since! I'm always happy with my order. They make good espresso. Their bagels/ bagel sandwiches are excellent. If you're on Newbury street, I would pick Pavement over Thinking Cup, simply because of space. Thinking Cup is always packed, and Pavement typically has a table or two open. read more

Only been here once. My review is based on one sandwhich- the Lox bagel sandwich. I was really disappointed. They put one sliver of salmon on it from a pre-portioned pack, I barely could taste any salmon. It cost 8 bucks for basically a tomato, onion, cream cheese bagel. Lox sandwiches are expensive because they are usually stacked with salmon. I ended up taking salmon from one half, putting it on the other which made it somewhat like what I would have ordered. Tossed the other half. My bagel was also way over toasted and more like a cracker. All around not great. read more

Really like this place! If i could eat a bagel every day, it would be from here. Their Tequila Sunrise bagel is a must try! Pretty much an egg Sammy with jalapeno cream cheese. That is as good as it gets, the jalapeno cream cheese, is an addiction. SO GOOD. Not a fan of their coffee, but worth the stop for the bagels! read more

My go to place for coffee and breakfast sandwiches. I'm so glad to live right around the corner. Their coffee is always good (I don't really like sweet drinks so I haven't tried much of their espresso drinks) and reliable. If I want to get food, I usually get the Sunrise with ham and swiss instead of the cheddar and bacon. I was a little sad that they got rid of all of the options for cheese when they became Pavement (from ERC) but I guess I always got the same thing anyway. The staff is always friendly and ready to help you out if you're trying to decide between a few things. It's usually crowded around noon on weekends (and probably earlier than I wake up on weekdays) but the lines go pretty quickly! The weather's getting nicer, and it's only a block from the Mall. If the seats are full, go eat under the greenery. read more

My favorite place to get coffee in Newbury st. The outside patio is perfect for coffee and checking emails, reading the newspaper Or whatever it is you do in the morning. Is it an orange scone with chocolate chunks? Or is it a plain scone with orange-flavored chocolate chunks? I don't know and I guess it doesn't really matter because it is delightful. The cold brew (iced coffee) is also excellent. I only wish they offered larger cup sizes for cold drinks, but that's the gluttonous American in me. Oh, wait -- we're in gluttonous America, right on an urban college campus. Please, Pavement, give me bigger size options for iced tea and iced coffee! First time to Pavement- While the coffee and breakfast sandwich were good. The Music was AWFUL and LOUD. It was hard to hang out.

I get it. I'm old school. I expect people to look me in the eye when speaking to me. I expect a respectful acknowledgement when not articulating. I expect servers to realize not everyone frequents their establishment enough to know the establishment's process. I get that servers gat tired. But when you are told there's only one size and the server puts 16 oz of water in a 20 oz to go cup when she had more than enough 16oz cups that's ridiculous! You can never drink hot water that's not up to the rim without fear of burning yourself. If she only has one size put 16 oz of tea in a 16 oz cup! Ridiculous! However, as I finished this review I just realized why she gave me an attitude. She has been stuck @ work having to listen to her grandmother's 1950's music! read more

Pavement, you look beautiful. I have no complaints about this cafe. The people who work here are really nice and they make a really great Chai Latte. The coffee is much better than starbucks (of course) and the location is perfect. As far as seating goes, true it is limited but it is also a small cafe on newbury street... seating is bound to be limited. If you wait a few minutes however, you just may find a seat. It ay help if you akwardly hover over someone who no longer has a coffee or a snack :). read more

I got the latte here and it's absolutely great! The latte art stays even as you continue to drink the coffee due to the thick, creamy consistency of the milk foam. I would recommend coming to take a coffee break or drink morning coffee here. There are seats outside as well, which I recommend sitting instead of inside. This place is pretty small. You go in to the back side of the cafe and you get in line to order. It's pretty busy but I think if you go at a time that's not around lunch time it will be less busy. But we were fortunate enough to find seats outside for taking aesthetic photos of our bagel sandwiches and lattes. The staff is really nice, she even brought our food to the table mainly because I had two drinks in my hands. They fill your water bottle if you bring in one (I don't know if they charge you, though). It is a nice place to study if you are up for that kind of stuff. read more

Pavement has solid coffee and food; I've only gotten the salad (albeit at the one on Gainsborough) but people rave about the bagels. I mostly come here for the wifi - their coffee is decent; better than Starbucks's but not as good as Barrington, which is just down the street. They also tend to run out of cold brew, which is also served in a tiny cup (even though it's "concentrated," it still feels like a bit of a rip off). I like their hot coffee far better than their iced. It's a cozy spot though, with a decent amount of seating and outlets, and pretty reliable wifi (though you do have to re log in after 2 hours). The service is friendly and quick. read more

I really wanted to like this place because it has such good reviews but the coffee was just not good... I'm not sure if we had a bad batch but it tasted burnt.. my bf couldn't even drink it and threw it out. They need to figure that out. Come here 3 or 4 times a week since it's right by my office. I love iced lattes and theirs are great (thinking cup has the best). Love their black iced tea. Bagels aren't the best, very hard to chew. Salads and sandwiches are pretty good. Nice place to get coffee with a friend since they have outdoor seating. Tl;dr - fan of the pavement chain. Great iced lattes and black iced tea. read more

Such a cute little( literally) coffee house! Went in for the first time to grab a quick lunch and it was really busy. I got a pastoral salad with sliced sweet potatoes, goat cheese, green apples and arugula ( it's supposed to be a Sammie but you can turn the sandwiches into a salad) it was delicious! With that said the store has very,very limited seating so you are better off getting your coffee/ sandwiches to go. I would love to go back when it's not toooooooo busy! read more

I used to love this place for a good bagel in the mornings. Today I was very disappointed. Pavement changed their menu. No more veggie cream cheese but in it's place they do have a lemon herb something or other...and I can add pickled veggies to my bagel FOR AN ADDITIONAL charge. The one slice of heirloom tomato was totally worth the seventy five cents I paid for it (not). Looks like I'm going to have to find another good bagel place. Bummer. read more
