I really wanted to love this place because I came with my friend who had great reviews about when she came there for a baby shower! She said the food was fantastic and she loved the penne vodka so we had to come! I have to tell you that I was not impressed. It was a Monday at 3:30 in the afternoon, they set us at a tiny table right in the entrance of the door to the outside patio and in the walkway that everybody was walking by that worked there. We ordered the meatballs and the mango salad. The mango salad was fantastic but the meatballs were just average. We both decided to get the penne vodka with chicken because she had spoke so highly of it. When I tell you we got two completely different portion sizes and the colors of the pasta sauce were completely different from one dish to the next you would think that two completely different cooks in the kitchen made the plates. Our dirty appetizer plates sat on the table until we were done eating and were ready to wrap our food. We must have had all the bussers walk past our table a good 15 times and even the manager checked on us and nobody offered to take the plates away. We decided to get dessert and I got the salted caramel martini. That martini needs to be taken off the menu immediately, It was god-awful and tasted like straight rubbing alcohol. The cheesecake crumbled to pieces every scoop you tried to take with the fork. I have never in my life had a cheesecake so brittle before. Our server was nice and friendly, very soft spoken. We were seated directly under a heater that blew at top speed the entire meal. We were denied a different table. The food is atrocious. Chicken parm was burnt, dry and tasteless, and is currently making me feel ill from the few bites I was able to eat after ordering extra sauce to get it down. We were compensated with another meal choice. The pasta was the type that is precooked and then placed in boiling water. It was far from al dente. The eggplant was rubbery. I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner at Pazzo. This is a locally owned and operated restaurant, not a chain. It is obvious they take pride in their service and in their product. Our server was very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and did a fantastic job serving myself and my friends. Many of the entrées on the menu were unfamiliar to me. I ordered a pasta dish with homemade pasta, a tomato-based sauce with sausage and some cream. Pappardelle Bolognese. it was delicious, served hot, and was a very generous portion. I could not eat it all. Of course I did have some appetizers before the entrée, namely fried calamari, some fresh bread and olives. As an Italian restaurant they serve a large variety of wines. Since I do not drink wine I ordered my usual iced tea which was fresh brewed and refreshing. The ambience was quite nice. I don't know that I would call it intimate, but it was very much in good taste, with clean and classy surroundings and a warm and inviting atmosphere. Everything went well until we got the check and we're overcharged for a side dish. Adjusting the billing took 20 minutes. The Manager worked for a bit to assist the server in adjusting the bill, but instead of coming over to us decided to walk around to stand in every corner of the restaurant to give us dirty looks. The fact that he never came over to apologize for the wait but actively walked about giving dirty looks reflects his lack of customer service skills which one would think may be a prerequisite for a customer facing Manager who is completely unsuited for his position. What might have been an oversight, became even worse when he pretended not to know who we were when one of us approached him to thank him for nothing. Instead of apologizing, he doubled down on pretending not to know who we were then said he was overwhelmed with christenings and communions, problems at the bar and how he helped adjust the bill. He managed to do all that yet still give us dirty looks from each corner of the restaurant. Pazzo wasn't just a restaurant. It was a dining experience. Great energy, good service then this Manager happened. It makes a dining experience just another place that I once ate at. I can't honestly recommend this place to friends and run the risk of coming under the glare of a disappointing Manager lacking customer service training. read more

First time dining at Pazzo's and it definitely lived up to the reviews I've heard from friends. We started out with the Bee String pizza which had great flavor. I wish it was a little crispier but still delicious. For entrees, my table had the braised short ribs, glazed salmon, chilean sea ball, and a gnocchi with crab meat special. All were exceptionally good. For dessert, my table shared the homemade Pizzetti for 2 and it was enough to feed all four of us it's huge. Nice ambiance for a family outing g however our party of 7 was seated near the kitchen where we saw plates lined up and sitting - not sure why. However our wait for salads was unusually long...I suspect everyone was waiting as we had. Then my daughter who has an severe nut allergy told the waiter who was kind enough to tell the chef. She ordered a salad which per the menu has no nuts...Note however, the chef does not prepare the salads. This is the role of the expediters / table servers who for whatever reason added nuts that we reconfirmed later are not part of that salad. Fortunately, these were visible almonds my daughter noticed and told the waiter and the salad was replaced. Then, a chicken Caesar salad was delivered with uncooked chicken breasts. The waiter ( who was quite good - pleasant and understanding) apologized - said he would have it replaced. He added that would be no charge for the chicken Caesar salad. The food here was outstanding. My wife and I came here before a show at the Count Basie. I called to make reservations that morning and the staff were very friendly. I had explained that I had never been there before and they explained that there is a parking garage next door and even told me how much it would cost to park. When we arrived, we didnt wait at all for our table. The bread and olive oil on the table was delicious and we immediately knew the quality of the food we were going to eat. Our waitress was very nice and provided her personal recommendations. Service was fast, friendly and they have a great wine selection. We chose the organic Chianti and it paired very well with both of our dishes. We started with Calamari Fritta which was outstanding--just make sure to ask for extra marinara. For entrees, my wife had the Blood Orange Salmon and I had the Seared Tuna. Both dishes were out of this world. The Risotto was like something I've never had before and I would highly recommend. Pazzo is a local favorite with excellent food and cocktails. It's not on Broad or Monmouth, the two main streets in Red Bank, but It doesn't seem to matter; it's always packed. Their salads are amazing (my favorite is the Caesar), their pasta is prepared to perfection. The servers seem to happy and welcoming. The Limoncello Italian wings are delicious, as well as the Polpette Damiano (meatball appetizer). Pazzo has a full bar as well as outdoor seating. There is no dedicated parking but there is street parking as well as a parking garage right next door. If you're going on a Friday or Saturday, definitely make a reservation. read more

Had a reservation there tonight (NYE) for 8 people. We were seated fairly quickly and our waiter I believe his name was Bryan was amazing! He really should get acknowledgement for how great he was. We had 4 kids with us and their food and appetizers were served fast. I would have given 5 stars but a few reasons why not. My meal and a few others were just warm and we waited long for the meals and Bryan said he was checking regularly because he knew it was long so when I got my food it tasted like it had been sitting a while but was still very good. Also while a few kids were still eating dessert our waiter said he was very sorry to say but his manager told him we had to get moving and leaving since it's New Year's Eve and they need the table. I totally understand this but when we are seated a little after our reservation time and our meals came out late you should recognize that and take it into consideration. I wanted to tell our waiter it's totally not your fault but your manager should come tell us this and not you. This is something management should take as some feedback for future times. My family dined at Pazzo last Saturday, Oct. 14th. We had a 6:30 reservation and were going to a show at the Count Basie Theatre that started at 8:00. While our waiter was good, the kitchen was extremely, extremely slow. I had to ask our waiter when our food would arrive and then finally had to speak with a manager. Then, our meals arrived separately. We had to rush to make the show at Count Bassie and just got there on time. I remember when a restaurant screwed up, they may have offered a free desert or some other accommodation. Not at Pazzo. We did not even get an apology from this place causing us to have a very, rushed dinner that was not at all enjoyable. I could not even tell you if the food was good because I had to eat it so quickly. Their service sucks! read more

We were a party of 8 so we had a lot of different dishes that I can comment on. The appetizers/salads were very good. Both the Caesar Salad and the Iceberg Wedge were excellent choices as was the lemon flavored chicken wings. Each of those salads could be shared by 2 people. The soft shell crab appetizer didn't make it to my end of the table, but from a distance looked like a very nice dish. It didn't seem like anybody was totally blown away by their main courses. My halibut was a very nice piece of fish but the sauce was not particularly flavorful. The consensus was the main courses ranged from good to very good but no one said their dish was great. No one complained either. So all in all, I would have to say the mains were in the 3.5 range. Portions were nice sized too. The pork chops and the bone in chicken parm, as well as my wife's pasta special with lobster were all nicely presented. For dessert, I sampled 3 different flavors of gelato; hazelnut, pistachio, and chocolate. All were rich & creamy, and full of flavor. Went here for Easter lunch today. The place was pretty packed, we had reservations. We got seated and was given fresh bread. I ordered a bourbon lemonade, it was okay. We got the antipasto and fried calamari for appetizers. Very delicious. For the main entree i got the shrimp fra diavlo. It was delicious, shrimps tasted great, spicy sauce and pasta was perfect. For dessert we got the Nutella pizza, didn't take a picture of it but it was really good especially with the vanilla ice cream. The waitress never gave us our bread and olives until after the entrees were served. She took a very long time to bring us grated cheese, salt, and pepper. The broccoli on the plate was cold. It felt like it just came out of the fridge. Creme brule was not good, and it was pricey. Cappuccino is not good. Ambiance was nice. Everytime I have been here I can't help but notice the greasy hand marks on the glass doors, tables, and food on the floor. Most of the waitstaff either have an attitude or look underage. The food takes awhile to arrive. We tried the short rib dinner (recommended). The pizza with the meatballs/ricotta cheese is good. The orecchiette pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe is okay but the broccoli rabe is left bitter and not balanced. Monday is half price pasta night, which is nice since the food quality does not back up the high prices to begin with. The water glasses may or may not have lipstick on them. No extra napkins. No toilet paper in the dirty bathroom. May have several people serving you too, from taking the order, dropping the food, and picking up the check. It was a peaceful evening at Pazzo when all of the sudden we were ambushed by the wait staff, they were armed with plates of deliciousness, dropping hot dishes on the table left and right, the vodka pie was the bomb, the bolognese was of the highest caliber.
