The Salmon dinner is delicious and a perfect match with creamy grits which Pearl will make upon request. They add the right mix of butter milk and butter and love!!! Their boneless chicken is also a favorite of mine as well. They marinade in a pearl based sauce! Fabulous

Their iced white mocha latte is so good and sweet! Better and cheaper than Starbucks in my opinion! Workers are super friendly and lots of indoor and outdoor seating.

I walked in this establishment this morning to get a coffee and pearl didn't have a happy look in her face. She said, I'm not welcomed in there and I asked why, she said your racist right in front of regular customers. How embarrassing , I am Caucasian and I go to and African American church for many years, and my pastor is well known in they Bay area guiding people to truth in love I will not step foot in here again.

*** P E A R L S is OPEN for TAKE OUT Family-run business: Mom, Pearl and her 4 grown kids work with her offering welcoming, friendly service with some great eats. Unfortunately, with the shelter-in place, business has slowed immensely....mostly gone! :( This is a great little place is located in a small strip mall near Cal State East Bay called Pearl's Cafe...definitely a neighborhood gem Please consider TAKE OUT during mornings & all day M-F. They ALSO have great BBQ on Thursday & Friday nights! The go to item is BBQ salmon! Flavorful and melts in your mouth and so reasonably priced!! Get this! This may seem a little out of the way, but make it a trip with a "social-distancing" hike around the Hayward Hills/Cal State Hayward's (it's not Cal State East Bay to me!) Campus and a nice treat after!

Inviting, cute and clean inside. Decisions, decisions, what shall I get this time? :)

As someone who has been drinking Vietnamese coffee since I was 12 (Im much older now), I am very picky with my Vietnamese coffee. This place knocked it out of the park with their coffee as well as offering flavors that I never tried other than the original. The phin set I ordered is for dine in only and understandably so. The pandan cream topping was definitely new for me and I would give it the compliment of saying that it wasnt too sweet. Not pictured was the pandan waffle and the two pate chaud I ordered, which I ate before taking the picture, I am sorry. It might be on the pricey side but hoenstly these days, what isnt? Im not complaining, I would come back next time I am around the area. Lastly, I wanted to shout out the workers there on that day. You guys seemed understaffed and getting slammed, but everyone did their job and delivered.

So far I've…read moretried the piña colada matcha, pandan coffee, egg coffee (less sweet), and coconut coffee (less sweet). Everything has been a hit! My recommendation is to order your drinks less sweet. It's the perfect level of sweetness. The only tweak I'd make is adding an extra shot of espresso to the coconut coffee. The food, unfortunately, didn't live up to the drinks. I tried a few of the bánh mì sandwiches, and the bread-to-filling ratio was way off. There just wasn't enough filling, and even after ordering extra veggies, it didn't seem like there were actually any extra added. If you're specifically craving a Vietnamese sandwich, I'd recommend driving about a mile up the road to Huong Sandwiches instead. That said, I still want to come back and try more of their food menu because the drinks alone keep bringing me back. The café itself is adorable. I love the modern design and all the greenery throughout the space. It's clean, quiet enough to study or work, and has about 7 small tables, making it ideal for solo visits or small groups of up to four people. I also appreciated the powerful hand dryer in the restroom (it's the little things!) and plenty of parking. Come for the drinks, stay for the atmosphere.

The workers spend a lot of time chatting when making drinks and are a bit distracted. The coffee shop is very cute but I must say it can be VERY loud. Even with noise cancelling headphones, the music makes it feel less like a cafe or coffee shop. Conversation is difficult. Even when the workers call the names on people's order, they need to do so multiple times because people tend not to be able to hear them. Between the very loud espresso machines (not much you can do about that) and the music, if you need to sit and get a little work done, this is not the place. Again, after many visits, this is the reality I have to admit. I wanted to like this place for a spot to work, but unless the volume levels come down, it'll be a pick up and go spot only for me. **editing my review after my experience today. Waited for 40 minutes for a simple Avocado Toast. When I went to the counter the cashier was a little snippy with me and told me "it takes time..." and rolled her eyes when I asked to take it to go. I had already finished my large latte and needed to get on with my day. The order was avocado mash on a piece of toasted bread. I could have baked an entire loaf of bread in that time and been spared the attitude. Last visit for me. No thanks.

Usually when I have "honey toast" the bread is still bouncy in the middle. The crème brûlée was lacking in flavor. The crepe it self tasted good. It was too thick and hard to cut through (especially since they didn't have plastic knives. There really is no point in serving it as a cone, you might as well serve it flat folded into a triangle. The Nutella was scarce, the chocolate ice cream tasted like it had been in the freezer with the top open. The price is quite steep for the desserts (and the level of disappointment). We didn't try any of the drinks. So if you are there for that, you may have a better experience.

Making it a bit cramp when you're trying to stand in line, look at what's available, and order at the same time. Parking here is hard to get to as well, the lot is super small and fits only one car at a time. If you happen to land a spot here your best bet is to reverse all the way out because a three point turn will turn into a multipoint turn quickly. My suggestion is to park in the lot in the plaza next door and walk over. As for the baked goods the Spicy Lemongrass Chicken Croissant is phenomenal and the Strawberry Moon is a classic. The flavor profiles here lean Asian with many call backs to flavors such as ube and passionfruit. They also seem to change their menu often too so keep an eye out on the newer items as you visit. In terms of aesthetics of the pastries you can see the love in the folds of each one. The strawberry moon croissant is a good example of this because the amount of ridges in the croissant shows how many times it was folded while making it. That alone is back breaking work and truly a labor of love for something that gets consumed in minutes. Last but not least the staff, we love a good mom and pop shop. The entire family is in on this, from the cashier, baristas, and pastry chef. If you're looking for a AAPI business to support, this is the one to go to. They're kind, diligent, and when a pastry sells out you can always count on them to make more. Disappointment does not run in this family! The parking lot is small and hard to get into but there is street parking. Review is for their breakfast, I love how they are open at 7am, it's perfect for early risers like our family. The remodeled bank is really nice and there are fun areas on both stories to explore. The windows and old bank architecture are particularly nice and you get really nice lighting throughout the day. Will be back to try their pizza based on how good the breakfast was. Breakfast Burrito: Probably the best we've had in our area. This is our taste but we don't like them too big. Avocado, eggs, sausage, and potato wrapped in a thin tortilla. The salsa this came with was excellent. My wife and I actually split this and it was perfect portions for us. Coffee: Cappuccino and Halo Beriti Pour over. You can see their timers and equipment so you know you are in for a nice cup of coffee. The only ding here is I actually asked for a flat white and the person working that day said it was the same thing as a cappucino. The cappucino was so good I was fine but I do like more coffee taste than milk which is why I asked for a flat white. Pancakes: Very well made with apple and whip cream topping, the kids ate way more of this than we thought they would. Yogurt: With granola, blood oranges, and pomegranate. We finished the whole thing, it was a very interesting blend of toppings that paired well with the drizzled yogurt.

I had been to the church before, but I didn't remember the massive coffee hangout there! It's so spacious and offers plenty of seating. How long has this place been here? I wish it were closer to where I live in San Jose! I could easily imagine sitting in one of the comfortable nooks, studying or grading papers. It's also a fantastic spot to meet up or chat with a group of friends. It was definitely a nice place for a date! When we walked in, there were hardly any available seats, but the line at the counter wasn't long. We found a quiet corner to sit and enjoyed our breakfast. I ordered a hot latte with maple syrup in the name, though I can't recall the exact name. It paired nicely with my pastry. The almond croissant I ordered was delectable, with just the right amount of sweetness and flakiness. My partner enjoyed his cappuccino and savory bacon croissant. We walked up two steps to the restroom and were surprised to find more seats and tables. I wish I had noticed that area when I was looking for a place to sit. Oh well, it was comfortable where we were. The girls should have more playdates with their cousins so we can come here more often.
