Pearl still takes orders! She is so friendly and make you immediately feel like family. As someone who recently moved to her neighborhood, she invited me to come for breakfast to meet other locals. The small but features curly decorated environment had the game playing on this dreary Friday night. It was warm, inviting and comfortable. I ordered the Tri-tip, burger and Caesar salad. All of which was being grilled right out front by a family member. Super juicy and delicious, I will be back to Pearl's soon so I can become one of the neighborhood regulars. read more

A godsend coffee stop to avoid the lines at CSUEB's starbucks cafe, or the traffic downtown.

This mom and pop shop is located at the end of the shops in Hayward up the hill on Carlos Bee Blvd. Since it is close to the CSUEB campus, parking has been limited to two hours for customers only. This place has improved over the last couple of years by offering some great drinks and food and now BBQ hand cooked on Thursdays and Fridays only. Workers here are very nice and attentive to your needs and will do their best to accommodate you. I hope this place stays open and continues to grow! read more

Living just 1 minute up the street, I've come to appreciate Pearl and the convenience of being able to call ahead in order to have my latte ready upon arrival. Pearl is very friendly and makes the brief visit worth while. I haven't had a chance to try the food, but am happy with having coffee up in the Hayward Hills without the need to trek down. read more

Worst service I've had in this area! I am a local physician in the hayward hills area who is adamant about supporting the local coffee shops that are family owned over the large corporate giants. This is the second opportunity that I've given this coffee shop hoping that the first hurrendous service was a fluke. Unbelievable what rude and impersonal service the gentleman/owner provides that it confirms to me that if it wasn't for the coffee shop's location, the place would have been shut down by now. It is even more offensive to me because it is "customer service" that usually distinguishes the "ma and Pa" coffee shop from the "impersonal" Starbucks "bullies". Twice I visited this gentleman's shop requesting an espresso and the owner clearly spites my asking for simple specifics regarding what's on the menu. Hoping that my last visit was just a misunderstanding today's identical interaction and incompetent service makes me conclude that the gentleman is just callous, rude, and completely oblivious to the importance of establishing friendly customer service. Still hoping that they will continue to be successful, I wholehearted would recommend a course in customer service and awareness. He should at least learn to hide his chagrin towards specific simple requests as to how much steamed milk we wanted in our espresso or is that not a customer choice. His interactions are short, he gives poor eye contact , he never greets or thanks us as customers despite us thanking his ridiculously impotent service, and a simple smile would go a long way in opposed to treated us as if he's counting the seconds for us to get out of his sight. Important note, rolling one's eyes at customers is a great way to get them to leave keep them from returning. At this point the money spent at this place must be rendered a donation. For that type of inflammatory service along and overinflated prices, his coffee should be phenomenal. It is at best mediocre and not much more impressive than my homemade espresso with Cafe Bustelo at home. It is worth driving several miles down the hill to hesperian to look for other coffee shops such as EON coffee. Or I hate to say it...Starbucks! read more

Pearl's is an oasis in the dusty hills around Cal State. Really clean and neat. The espressos are made perfectly, and the pastry is fresh. And now that it is open on Thursday nights, We order a few of the items they offer, count to 10, and go pick our meals up Absolutely a "godsend" here in the Hayward hills for the past few years. I stopped in for a coffee and snack before class. The iced coffee tasted good and the banana nut muffin was great! The server was friendly and spot on, quick. I am a little bummed because they are closed from 3-5, so it's not worth coming on my break between classes at 2-4. read more

The owner had the worst morning attitude and incredible reluctance to provide customer service. We greeted him with hospitality, courtesy and genuine pleasure. This place is the best. We come here for breakfast (sandwiches on bagels or croissants) and for dinner (only open Thursday and Friday nights). The grilled salmon is really special and the burgers, chicken and tri-tip are all excellent. This is a family-run business and the owners treat the customers like good friends. My children always want hot chocolate everytime they see a coffee shop. But boy did their eyes get big when the got their hot chocolate's from Caffe Caribe in a tall clear glass with whip cream and chocolate syrup on top!!! What makes them happy. Makes mommy happy =) I myself did not care for anything hot, so I asked the employee what he recommends and he recommended the "Italian Soda" with soOoooo many different flavors to choose from. I myself went with the Peach flavor...ITS TO DIE FOR!!!! I think my overall experience was great due to the environment, and customer service, the employees make you feel at home (yet your at a coffee shop). I even asked to use their restroom expecting the worst, but it was Oh so clean, which is very hard to find now-a-days!!! I believe they have Wi-Fi too because I saw a couple of people on their lap-tops. Just check the place out, and then tell me if I was wrong!! read more

I like to come here when I can afford it. The people who work there as well as the people that go there are always really nice and friendly. They have espresso drinks, regular drip coffee, tea, smoothies, and Italian soda with many flavors to choose from. They always ask me if my drink tastes good and if they need to add more of the flavor in it. You can get some baked goods like pastries, sandwiches (both lunch and breakfast) and you can get them on croissants or a bagel, a couple different cereals, fruit, and I think they also have some health bars things. There is a nice atmosphere and usually music playing and there is always something to read. You can sit inside, outside or get it to go. If I could I would come here every morning but a busy schedule gets in the way. The only problem I have (which isn't their fault) is that I have lived in Hayward since I was 3 and the kids mothers that I went to school with go there and can talk for days and always love to know how the family is doing. So the coffee shop right next to the college of sciences at CSUEB is closed during summer. When you have an 8am genetics class getting there on time is enough of a feat without having to walk across campus for a long line & the content of the generic coffeehouse breed that is Starbucks. Pearl's offers a tasty variety of options, the mom & pop feel that is so far & few these days, & a gracious & friendly demeanor from the owners. I've been there a few times now & have had a great experience so far. I'll definitely be a recurring customer & recommending this place my friends. read more
