Saw this place was under construction a while ago and was curious to see what would be there. today I drove by and saw it was finally open! Came in and was pretty impressed by the interior. Angela, the manager, greeted us and asked us if we've been to Pekoe before. She was so sweet and friendly. Really attentive to what we were looking for and what flavors we liked so she could match us up with a drink. She gave us samples of all the tea they made and they were all so freaking good. I really liked how the tea flavor was there and the other fruit flavors were present unlike other tea places where the cream and sugar overpowers the flavors. All the tea is organic and its infused instead of using all the flavoring syrups like the other tea places. The creamer is also non-dairy! My friend ordered the Just dew it, I got the Angela, and got my cousin golden lychee. Each drink was $4. They were PERFECT. The combos they have are pretty good but if you don't want that there's also a create your own tea menu so that's cool. Boba had the perfect texture and flavor. You can tell its very fresh. Angela says she makes them every hour so we get the best of the best. It was so good my cousin and I came back later in the evening and met her husband who was also very friendly. He made sure our drinks were to our likings before letting us leave. This time I had the Pekoe special (also really good!) and my cousin ordered Just Dew It (the melon flavor is really there but its not too overpowering). I can't emphasize how amazing this place is. Ever since I moved back from Irvine, I've struggled to find "that" boba spot, but Pekoe's mixed fruit teas are extremely reminiscent of the boba spots down in Southern California that I have missed so dearly. I'm from San Mateo, but whenever I'm in the area, I make the effort to go to Pekoe. I haven't found a single drink that I haven't liked. The majority of the specials are consistent, but every week, they'll rotate in new specials. I'm only reviewing this as three stars for now but will definitely improve it to five stars once I've had another visit and depending on the circumstances. My first few visits to Pekoe were fantastic. Great tea and so convenient in terms of price and location. Recently though, the past few times I got tea, my drinks have always had a distinctive "soapy" taste that is actually pretty strong. The first time it happened, I had my friend try my drink to verify and he also agreed there was definitely a "soapy" flavor. I would like to add though that I asked for another one and got it no problem so props to Pekoe's service. Note: I did overhear the girl re-making the drink say that "I asked for less sweet" implying that that's why the taste was different. True, though in my opinion, I don't know why less sweet means more soap. I know I totally sound like a d*ck right here, but I just felt it was important to mention. Pekoe can definitely pump out great drinks and I really enjoyed coming here, but I have had to stop due to the recent experiences. Pekoe was a place I've known about for a long time, but never had the chance to go down to SJ to try. I was pleased to find out that it lived up to its expectations. However, it's a hot spot in the area and is almost guaranteed to be busy. I really enjoyed the split cup feature. Not many boba shops have this option and it was my first time trying it. I got the Pomstar and Foxy Brown in a split cup with less ice. Both drinks were amazing. The Pomstar was a tad bit strong, but I think the toppings brought it down very well. The Foxy Brown had a great tea taste and very good boba. I would suggest both of these flavors, but I'm sure that many other items on their menu are worth checking out. My one issue of that night was the wait time. In total, my friends and I probably waited 35 minutes for our drinks to come out. We came on a Saturday night, so it wasn't surprising that the place was packed. The store has a nice ambience and it wasn't too bad waiting for our drinks. However, if you're on a time crunch, you may wanna pass this place up. Overall, Pekoe was a great spot that lived up to my expectations. If I'm in the area, I will definitely stop by again to try out new flavors. If you have time on your hands, this is the best boba in the area, hands down. read more

There's a lot of hype about Pekoe and how amazing it is. It's a nice spot for people who like the club feel. It might be a nice place for teenagers and underage young adults to hang out. Music is loud, lights are bright in a fairly dark colored room. The drinks are very expensive in my opinion, for that price I can almost buy an alcoholic drink. I think they are catering towards a young adult raving kind of crowd. Some of their drinks are pretty good though, their foxy brown with grass jelly is one of my favorites though I would prefer it a little less sweet. Their Kawaii is my next favorite, I love this fruity tea and the toppings that come with it, definitely a unique tea combination you can't find in most boba shops unless you make it yourself. They charge an extra dollar for no ice on top of the 5.50 pricey drink. So one drink can cost up to $6+ which is crazy for some tea and milk! It felt like an upscale night bar.. but for milk tea. I went here yesterday night and I really liked the ambiance of the place. You have to drive a bit after getting off the 101, but there was a bunch of parking. It's in the same plaza as Lucky's and right next to Lee's Sandwiches. They have specialty drinks on the board, but it's kind of hard to see it until you go all the way to the front of the line. All drinks here are $4, regardless of what's in it. This can be either a good or a bad thing because I'm one of those boring people who orders just a regular hot cup of tea, so it was a total ripoff for me. You can customize how strong you want your tea, how much cream is in it, how much ice, how sweet, etc. I got the special called the black dragon, which was oolong tea with cream (it's non-dairy yay!) and grass jelly. I asked for it unsweetened, but I guess the cashier didn't really hear me. I was called after sitting down with my friend on those comfy couches for a few minutes. I walked up expecting my drink, but the person who was making it just handed me a sample cup so I could taste it first! I was pretty surprised about the amount of customer service. :) I told him it was too sweet and he went back to change it. After a few minutes, he called my name again and gave me a sample to make sure it was just how I wanted it! Super sweet of him and I really liked my drink! I been back in San Jose for 3 weeks and probably tried more than half their pre set drink menu. They have interesting drinks and toppings and a nice atmosphere with pretty lights at night. So far I think my favorite is the foxy brown with 25% sugar. Delicious. The bay area has always had a plethora of milk tea shops. A lot of these are either expansions from Southern California or Taiwan. However, lately there has been a larger influx of newer shops trying to stand out and make a name for themselves. Pekoe is one of them. It's a milk tea shop, like any other milk tea shop.There's nothing particularly new or innovative about that. Drinks are well done so that's definitely warrants at least the 4 star rating. What makes Pekoe unique is that it is constantly experimenting. I've been here several times already, and they have a set menu of their consistently strong drinks and a menu that changes on a regular basis. I like this idea and can see it keeping them fresh and interesting. Why 4 instead of 5 stars? I'm not a big fan of their ambiance. A fundamental strength to a milk tea shop is the environment. It tries a little too hard to look like a night club and thus it's a little "boogie". As a result, it attracts a particular crowd that I'm not a big fan of being around (I'll let you discover what that crowd looks like). I tend not to stay and relax here for too long. Differentiation done right. Going to pekoe is very a questionable choice because I'm driving good 20minute for a milk tea. Now that round 1 is literally 5minute away from pekoe, this is now my favorite place. The menu of pekoe is something other small local competitors can take note on. There's no typical jasmine, Thai milk straight out. Their menu are all specialized milk tea mixes much like cocktails at a hip bar ( to be fair, the interior looks like an Asian bar, so just pretend is a nonalcoholic bar and call it a day) I tried my best to have everything on their menu, so far everything is pretty good. Pekoe special, life's a beach, just look for the ingrident that you want and order from there. I must say be careful with the sugar level though as some of the special boba are already sweetens (lychee, honey boba). But the cute lady there and ask if we want to swap it out for less sugar. Yeah , they actually care. If you're a DIY guy or just keep it simple. They also have a DIY menu, you can adjust tea strength , sugar and ice to whatever you want. Hands down my favorite milk tea place in the Bay Area. I get one thing and one thing only, the Foxy Brown. It is sweet and it has a uniquely deep roasted taste to it. It's a flavor i can't find anywhere else. The interior looks like a night club and they always have Street Fighter playing so you can beat your gf while waiting for your milk tea. Two downsides are that the honey boba is a bit too chewy and if you come at anytime later than 8, there is always a huge line of "cool" highschoolers that can be a bit obnoxious. Within the first week of trying it, I came back like five times...So much that the workers started to recognize me and said "Every time I see you, you bring in someone new." Haha..oops... We were taking a while to decide on what we wanted, so the barista (let's just call her that) offered to let us try some samples. I think we tried everything they had in their fridge for the day, and we settled on our drinks. Even after we were about halfway into our drinks, she came out with a new sample and offered to let us try some! Talk about amazing customer service! The only thing that I would have to complain about, is how long it takes to make the drink..but I just tell myself that it's in order to assure absolute perfection. All the drinks automatically come at 50% sweetness, which is a big plus for me! I'm not too big a fan of super sweet things, so I typically always ask for less sweet in my drinks and by having it already set at 50%, Pekoe eliminates that step for me. The ambiance of the place is pretty interesting to say the least. It's similar to that of a lounge/bar where there aren't separate tables and everyone just kind of sits together. At first it was weird for me, and sometimes it still is a little awkward when I have to share my table with two other parties, but I guess it's a way to meet new people? Haha. I do enjoy the decor though, it is very modern and super chill. Another thing that stands out to me is the game area that they have set up for avid gamers. I'm not a gamer at all, but it does add to entertainment when I'm just chilling there. The latest version of Street Fighter is always on, and it's always interesting to see different people play and their skill level. I played once and all I did was button smash...and you guessed it, I got wrecked. I've had the Manly Melons, Golden Lychee, Pretty in Pink, and the Just Dew It. Manly Melons: My all time favorite here. It has all the fruity flavors that I adore and I can still taste the tea through it all. And I love being able to taste my tea, that way I don't feel like I'm just slurping up syrup or powder in a cup! I come back every time and this is what draws me in every time. I mean, jasmine green tea infused with MANGO, LYCHEE, STRAWBERRY, and WATERMELON how can I possibly say no? Those are like the best fruits in the world! Their unique Agar pearls are quite interesting. I don't like things in my drink typically, but I gave it a try since it's a healthier boba from what they said. The texture is harder than regular boba, and it was a nice mix. But I typically replace it with lychee jelly and keep the aloe, because it's so refreshing. I love love love how this tea mixes and makes me feel when I drink it. Golden Lychee: It was good, but I think the Oolong tea used, threw me off. It was an interesting flavor and didn't sit too well with me. But I do love lychee, so I somewhat enjoyed it. Pretty in Pink: Pretty interesting....I'm not a big fan of the milk teas, and I didn't know how I felt about strawberry....to me it's a bit weird and somewhat reminded me of strawberry milk, but not as sweet. I ventured out of my comfort zone, and did not like it one bit with this drink. But if you're about that strawberry milk tea life, it's for you. Just Dew It: My perfect drink for when I'm craving something milky. It's a honeydew green tea with the Pekoe milk cream *which is apparently non-dairy* and grass jelly. Absolute perfection. Interesting boba place! It's like a club for teens under 18 years old. I went here with my cousin and it was nice experience. There are many options you can get for milk teas, toppings and even the sizes! I went for the traditional milk tea and it was pretty good. I didn't realize they had an option to do half and half in which you can pick two different drinks that are split in the middle of the cup. Drove from Hayward, too much traffic when switching freeways. Took almost an hour, which is inevitable. I'm guessing this place is somewhat new, because there was a line but wasn't that long. After a few minutes it got longer and longer. Appreciate how the cashier informed how the drinks may take up to 35 minutes to come out, although we didn't even mind the wait. It probably took 15-20 minutes to get to the cashier, and less than 15 to get our drinks! Yay! This review for Pekoe is waaayyy overdue. A milk tea spot I always find myself coming back to! My favorite milk teas are the OG (black milk tea) and Hojicha, which is sweet with a subtle roasted flavor. I love both with pearls and theirs are always soft and chewy! I've noticed that their pearls don't stay good for long, so make sure you don't take dayz to finish your drink if you do get them! When I'm going for something more refreshing, I love getting the Life's a Peach with an ounce of lychee. Highly recommend this one if you're more of a fruit tea person! The service here is allllways on point. I've worked at a boba place and know how irritating it can get when it's super busy... Love the quality of their teas! One of my faves is 'Angela.' It's extremely refreshing and yummy. It's hard to just sip on it. I can drink it in less than 5 minutes lol But you definitely need to enjoy the succulent taste :)... The sweetness in their teas is just perfect. I have been to many bubble tea places in the Bay Area. This place is by far the best. It is so cool that you can adjust your drinks sweetness, something that most tea places fall short on as their drinks are way too sweet. The drink I ordered was the pina colada. It is an unusual drink but was a very good compliment to my day at the beach. The ambiance in Pekoe is so hip. With bumpin' beats and cool lights, Pekoe even has a PS4 that is free to play. Pekoe is THE milk tea place to go to if you're ever in San Jose! The workers are completely helpful and they even offer you samples if you're feeling indecisive. The interior is gorgeous! The decorations create a comfortable setting for customers to socialize with friends. My friends and I come here often and we never get tired of Pekoe. I usually order the White Winter and it comes with white boba and aloe but instead of aloe, I swap it with grass jelly since it's my favorite! Pekoe gives out stamp cards too. Unlike other milk tea shops, instead of a free drink for every 10 drinks you purchase, you get a free drink for every 7 you purchase.
