Had a slice (was actually two pieces) today at Pelican and it was delicious! Crispy crust with soft inside, good amount of cheese and perfectly cooked pepperoni on top. It was also a good value. Pelican Pizza: My annual vacation meal rule is, "Eat Local! No corporate chains." Pelican Pizza is a block away from my hotel and an eagerly anticipated stop every year. The staff is always friendly & helpful. Once, the manager (owner?) gave me a free upgrade from a M pizza to L, for coming in twice that week. As a creature of habit, I only order pizzas. The slightly high price is fine for the location - and never (in my experience) having a long line. The ingredients and overall taste are consistently better than the average pizzeria's. One thing - I haven't found a way to order online. So I call in my takeout orders. Highly recommended for those who want to avoid the crowds and lines across the street and on the row. read more

We were craving pizza and came across pelican pizza so we decided to try it out and the pizza was delicious! We paid $20 for a XL pepperoni Pizza + 3 sides of ranch. If you plan on eating inside the restaurant is kind of small so we decided to eat in our car. The cashier told me to wait 20 minutes for my pizza to be ready and I told him I'll come back in 20 to pick it up but he noticed we were in the car and he brought it out to us, very kind. Here for the day with my kids and they love pizza. There are three options close to where we were. This one has the best reviews and I couldn't agree more. I told my kids that good pizza is not made fast, it is made right. And this place does it right. My daughter thought it was odd that her cheese was so stretchy. I told her that was the way it was supper to be. My nine year old put down over half a large pizza. It was so good he couldn't stop. I had to take it away. I had the meatball sandwich. Excellent! Service was stellar very nice employees consistently checkin on the few guest they had. Was just not a fan of the pizza. Thought they used ample toppings for sure had cheese but sauce they use killer the pizza for me. My family needed a quick bite to eat for lunch after spending the morning at the aquarium and before the kids took naps. Pelican Pizza was the perfect stop! We called our order in and they had it ready in 20 minutes. We got a Large pizza half cheese half combo, and it was DELICIOUS! We all ate it and enjoyed every bite. The thin crust wasn't too crispy but just doughy enough, which I loved. And the flavor was perfect. Only down side was that the Large wasn't very large. It was just enough for the 5 of us, but my husband needed to supplement with some other snacks we had around to feel full. Other than that, we loved it! So glad we chose to go there. read more

STAY AWAY ANY CHAIN PIZZA PLACE IS BETTER I was out in Monterey on vacation with friends and we decided to do takeout from here. Everything seemed decent at first, prices for their pizzas aren't the best as we found out anything bigger than a large will always come with 12 slices max just bigger slices. We proceeded to place our order over the phone and we got our total (Over $60 for only two pizzas YIKES) and we're told it would be ready in 20 to 25 minutes. Once we got there the building was very outdated as if it was never been renovated from the time that it was built. When I went to pay, I was asked for my ID when I presented my card which was highly unusual for me over a pizza, whatever I decided to give the worker my ID so he can match it with the card. Afterwards, it was my own fault that I didn't doublecheck the pizza while I was there. However, once I did open it in the car on the way back, I was furiously unhappy with my purchase, I ordered 2 half and and half XL pizzas and they looked more like cheese pizzas with toppings SPARINGLY SPRINKLED on-top. To have to pay over $60 and be presented with this humiliation of a pizza is a joke. Ontop of everything being overpriced, the ranch is .75 cents ea for a sauce container that has like 2 or 3 dips max. Unfortunately now we know for next time to NEVER COME HERE and AVOID AT ALL COSTS I wish I had taken photos of our pizzas for this review but we we're all starving from our day out and decided to take our loss. read more

Ordered last night on the phone at 6:00 was told 25 min wait for one xl pizza which is fine I waited 25 mins goes by I'm waiting until 7:07 I almost walked out twice and the man knew I was losing my patience he gave me and another girl who was waiting even longer than me 10 dollars back each and a piece of there chocolate cake on the house which was really good. Fantastic pizza. Ordered a large pepperoni. I'm a big fan of NY-style pies, and these guys do it well. One thing I don't like is an overly greasy pie, so was glad that this one didn't go heavy on the grease. Their sauce is a bit on the sweeter side, so to each their own. The dough is fluffy throughout which was nice to see. Lots of places that do NY-style overcook the hell out of the pie which results in a cracker crust. Not my thing, but again to each their own. Ok! 3rd pizza place we ended up at! Went to 2 other pizza places and one was closed and other had Zero seating! Finally 3rd times a charm! However let me say! There isn't much seating here either. They have 3 tables in their small area we got lucky! But everything was delicious! We will definitely be back next time where in the area. Staff was friendly and for all we got it was only $60! Was walking from the wharf and decided to stop at this hole in the wall pizza spot, and usually with my experiences with hole in the walls its always been pleasantly surprising, however not in this case unfortunately. I decided to order an XL BBQ chicken pizza and it was OVER 30$ for one pizza, I couldn't believe it but at least if it was a great pizza I could look the other way. The pizza was a 5/10 at best, dough was a bit undercooked, not enough sauce and not enough cheese, the chicken seemed like the lowest quality chicken available in the market. I was very dissatisfied with the food and went to ask the manager Alan Spence for a refund and he refused to give me a refund because refunds "can only be issued if there's a mistake with the order". So buyer beware, if you are unsatisfied with your food you're going to have to accept that you're out over 30$. Also the place was a bit filthy too, walls look like they haven't been cleaned since they opened in 1985, there's only 3 tables so if you come at a bad time good luck eating a meal out with your family. Also the place really stinks bad, like kind of like a sewer, not like an extreme amount but it's enough to be noticeable and make you lose your appetite. All in all would not recommend, and if I'm in the area again I'll be sure to try Gianni's pizza out next time. read more
