Stopped by Penn Station for a quick lunch. I haven't been here in quite some time but the food never disappoints! We each got a grilled sandwich, freshly made lemonade, and shared fresh cut fries and cookie. The lemonade is freshly pressed behind the counter and fries are hand cut/ made to order. Don't skip the cookie as it's the perfect sweet treat! Staff were very friendly with ordering, check out, brining our food. Sandwich sizes are 6" for a small. My only reason for the not perfect rating was the ketchup dispenser was almost out, I grabbed the last few napkins available, and the table hadn't been cleaned prior to us sitting down. The food is amazing but restocking supplies is also important.

We were on our way back home from a long day at the zoo and my brother and sister-in-law recommended stopping by here for a quick and early dinner. They said that they come here whenever they're in the area and really enjoy the bread they use and the fresh fries. Considering that I'd recently spent a weekend in the great land of cheesesteaks out east and that they are both pretty picky eaters I didn't expect much but after having a delicious cheesesteak I have to second their endorsement. I've probably passed by this location hundreds of times but it never really caught my attention as it's in a pretty nondescript strip mall off of Butterfield Rd. The restaurant is fairly bare-bones in their setup. A nice sized dining room with plenty of tables and some booths and a big tv for broadcasting sports games. You order at the front and then move to the back to pay. All of the staff were very nice. They have bottles of Heinz Malt Vinegar next to the fountain machine and apparently many people are fans of their lemonade so I'd like to give that a try at some point. Got a small (seemed like a 6") cheesesteak with provolone and everything on white bread (they offer several types of cheese and have multigrain bread too). The cheesesteak comes with sautéed onions, mushrooms, grilled banana peppers, spicy brown mustard, mayo, and pizza sauce which I was hesitant about but I'm glad I went with their standard toppings as it tasted great! The white bread they use has a good chew to it and toasts really well and the sandwich had big chunks of chopped and seasoned steak covered with a juicy and perfectly melted heap of provolone along with plenty of those delicious toppings. I got a small order of their fresh made fries which also tasted perfect and a fountain drink for a total of about $13. They don't have any combo meals unless you're ordering their monthly special which is the chicken Philly for this October. The small cheesesteak was more than enough for me but my brother who tends to have a bigger appetite ordered the regular size and that looked formidable enough but they also have a large and snack size. My sister-in-law got her usual chicken teriyaki sandwich and that also looked really tasty. If you're looking for a cheesesteak/Dagwood/deli sub place that is a step above the usual chain shops for a reasonable price I would totally recommend taking a trip to Penn Station.

Perfect sandwich. Nothing spectator. Fresh cuts, tasty bread and decent service. Go early for their brownies. They go fast. Tip, tell them it's your first time ordering. They will have patience.

Great service and good food. I enjoyed my sandwich! Guys were certainly attentive. I will be back!

Absolutely loved their cheesesteak sandwich! My friend got the chicken parmigiana and loved it as well. The staff were nice and we really enjoyed eating there!

Two 8 inch subs! Original cheesesteak with mayo as the sauce & the chicken teriyaki, both with sautéed mushrooms & onions!

Food was OK, service was OK. Not a bad place for lunch. About as average as it gets, but worth trying if you haven't been.

At first, I was disappointed they didn't have Chicago Italian beef. So I asked what they would recommend, and the very polite lady behind the counter said, "You should try my meatball sub." I laughed and told her, "I don't know... my late grandma (100% Italian) made the best meatballs ever, but alright, let's do it." Then she asked, "Do you want peppers?" and of course my reply was, "Heck yeah!" She chuckled. When the sub came out, I have to say, it was huge. I sat down, took one quick smell and a bite... BOOM. I was instantly transported back to my grandma's kitchen, eating Saturday pasta and meatballs. I highly recommend checking this little gem out. The service, the atmosphere, and especially the food were all amazing. I definitely was not disappointed. P.S. Don't skip the desserts -- once again, absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for the memories and the great experience!

I guess I need to roam around downtown Glen Ellyn more often... some friends and I gave it a try for lunch on a Friday. After stepping inside and taking one glance at the menu I knew it was going to be great. The menu has a ton of sandwich options, some pizzas, and a cooler with side salads and drinks. One bonus: they have little samples of the side salads, which is wonderful! The potato salad is incredible, by the way. Besides the menu being very easy to read, the staff is very friendly and willing to answer any questions you have. I went with The Viking sub, a potato salad, a bag of chips (Deep River, yum), and water (free and flavored with lemon!). It took just a minute or two for my sandwich to be made but the ambiance is chill and inviting. One small critique: they could clean up the "storage" feel to the place. We ate our meal al fresco, as those are the only tables they have, but it was enjoyable because the weather was nice. Most others grabbed and went. The food is outstanding! The sandwich was absolutely delicious and the toasted bread was perfection. Piled high with meat and toppings it is easily the best sandwich in the west suburbs. The Deep River chips are a great pairing, as always, and the potato salad was everything I was hoping for. In all the meal far exceeded expectations and I left full and happy. My friends were also equally impressed. If you can't already tell, I'm a fan... a BIG fan... of A&G's. The fact that it is right here in downtown GE... I'm in heaven and will be frequenting it often!

I'm not a big grilled cheese guy as it's mostly carbs and fat, but Meltwich has other items like chicken and beef. For example, they have a couple of sandwiches with grilled chicken, a couple burger options, even a Philly cheese steak option. They also have a variety of fries and milkshakes. I'd like to try one of the fries w/ meat items some other time. I was overwhelmed with the options, but the employee pointed out his two favorite options, so that helped me narrow it down. I went with the Southern Fried Chicken Melt (just the sandwich, not the combo). It was fried chicken with melted cheese and some veggies smushed between multi-grain bread. It was served very hot, so after a couple of attempted bites I decided to take it home to eat. It was very tasty. It took about 12 minutes to come out. I definitely plan to go again and try some other items. Service was excellent. I think pricing was fair ($12.95 for the sandwich only, plus tax & tip) considering the size of the sandwich; it was enough for two people, quite frankly.

It was faster at other places. They were good, not amazing. We received the main entrees a few minutes later. They were huge portions. I got my fried chicken on the mild side because I didn't know how spicy they make it. The mild version was still good. They were easy to cut and tangy. The waffles were firm but soft. It was a solid 7, which is why I place it at 3.5 stars. I may be being picky here but it just wasn't to the level of "melt-in-your-mouth" pastrami standards for me. Not to say it wasn't good, because it was perfectly fine. In fact, it's better than most of the pastrami sandwiches I tried in Chicagoland. Maybe it's the fact that I had to bring it back to the office to eat it, and half hour had gone by and pastrami weren't as warm and the Jewish rye had become soggy by the time I took the first bite. I mean, it goes without saying that the sandwich would have been 3 times better had I sat down immediately and had it. Again, all things considered, it was a perfectly good sandwich. One interesting thing was that I had never been to an establishment that included a half sour pickle instead of a normal one and gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised. Pickles can be a hit or a miss for me. I like my pickles to be crunch, but some places offer overripened ones that become borderline mushy. Schmaltz's half sour pickle was not overly salty or sour, making it very attractive for me. The more I'm thinking about it, I'm convinced that I'll have to go back and try their #14 Sloppy Paul, which is the corned beef with sauerkraut, which is another favorite of mine. I always order the large, and it's packed with so much fresh meat that I can give a generous portion of the turkey to my toddler as a snack and still have a full sandwich left for myself.
