What an awful store. My family and I walked in without any previous knowledge of this place. The women that were working there really on edge when we walked in, and immediately recommended that our children (3/8/10) should go to a corner and color, and not in a way that was warm and welcoming.... Then they kept pushing some type of awkward plastic coins to us and the kids during checkout, that turned out to be "pride" coins. Very awkward and uncomfortable experience, that has been validated after now seeing so many other Yelp reviews. read more

Some of their email offers are tempting but I wish the owner would keep his political opinions to himself. He's not solving any problem in the country but succeeds in driving a deeper political wedge when we should be looking for things we can all agree on. I have been buying and using Penzey spices for years and was so happy when they finally opened a store in Dallas. They have so many choices and the staff have always been very helpful and kind helping me fond just the right ingredient and suggesting ways to use them but the owner of this store is one of the most hateful people I've ever run across. He sends out emails that have so much anger in them it is hard to want to support him. Which is a shame because his spices are very good. read more

You can purchase the smaller jars, regular size or the refill bags. I have purchased seasoned black pepper, nutmeg from the West Indies, Mexican Vanilla, Vietnamese and China Cinnamon and many other spices and extracts. We gravitate between two Penzey's Spices stores and they are both wonderful, although very different in decor and store design. The Preston Road Penzey's always makes me think of Black Pepper and heat. Surrounded on two sides by hot black asphalt parking, this strip center store is devoid of curb appeal; but the moment you open one of the two jangling belled doors you are assailed by the smell of spice. The little hairs on the back of my neck stand up at the prospect of what's about to happen. For Bill Penzey's regular customers, you have entered a world of Fair Trade Spices obtained by a second generation spice trader and world traveler who loves his family, company, employees, country and planet and it's evident in the way he treats his customers as well. Usually, I walk in the door with a coupon for a free offer with a minimal, or even no purchase, that comes out on a frequent basis. Then the fun begins. The stores are divided into sections of herbs, seasonings, blends, spices, chiles, salts, peppercorns, soup bases, salad dressings, gift boxes, and peppermills. Wow ! I stumbled across this place today in a shopping center . How come I haven't found this place sooner ?? As soon as you walk in, you are overwhelmed by the vast amount of choices in spices I have never heard of . French this, Spanish that . I love it ! The ladies were very helpful in the store . I was asked if I needed help , but was given enough time to shop on my own . I prefer that. I like to shop in peace . Just the pure delight of these spices will make you want to cook ! I already have some ideas going . I decided on Spanish smoked paprika , Ceylon cinnamon , and Aleppo Pepper . There are sample jars for every spice . I had a lot of fun smelling them all . I love this place so much! I wish I went more often. While the prices are higher than usual markets the quality is there 10x fold. The albanian ground sage is to die for. Get it. The bay leaves are huge and have this wonderful aroma. Get that too. They have bulk spearmint which I make a lovely herbal tea with. They have saigon cinnamon aka vietnamese cinnamon once you try it you will never go back. The ladies that work there are so nice. Helpful but not intrusive. They have deals going on fairly often if you spend enough you get freebies. So I suggest you follow their facebook. Their website has recipes for their spices if you want some ideas what to make. The store itself is small yet spacious while being meticulously organized. Its a clean sotee for you neat freaks. Go to Penzeys, dont be shy and season liberally. Happy cooking. Diner drive in dives brought me to maple leaf diner in the same shopping center so I had to check the place out. Sooo if you want better overall spices for your kitchen/grilling game I'd check this place out! I absolutely love their smoked paprika it's probably the best I've ever had and also their fox point( poultry, soup, salad seasoning) is really really good for chicken! They have a ton of other spices. The seasonings they have are almost all salt free so that's a plus. The medium size bottles run about $10 but are definitely way better than your brick and mortar franchise stores! read more

I'll be honest right up front: The only things wrong with Penzeys are (1) they're not close enough to my house and (2) they're a little spendy. But, there are times when you really just want a quality product, even if it does cost a little more. Not everything has to be part of the "race to the bottom". Their store has a "gourmet feel" inside, with nice product presentation, good lighting and just an overall inviting atmosphere. The products have lots of information about origin and ingredients, along with recipes and other cooking tips. There are a variety of sizes available so you don't have to buy a ton of what you need, only to have it sit in your pantry until 2017. And how are the goods? I've tried a number of the products, including chile piquin, Chili 9000 chili powder and a few different Indian spices, and everything has been fresh and flavorful. The bottom line: You're almost certain to get a dependable product from here. It's a winner, for sure. read more

Your cooking skills will instantly improve. Cooking is all about quality ingredients. Their prices cannot be beat. McCormick - watch out! Penzey's is fresh fresh fresh. They rotate their inventory every three weeks. Yes, I said every three weeks. Just ask the ladies that work there to confirm. Their vanilla extract and vanilla beans rock the house. OMG! Seriously, I add vanilla to recipes anyway I can. We have a friend that will ask my husband to fix their computer. They pay him in banana pudding made with Penzey's vanilla beans. Now, that is good stuff. Penzey's other extracts are fabulous as well, which are almond, lemon and orange - YUM-OH! I added orange extract to some dark chocolate brownies out of a box, and you would have thought I paid big bucks for them at a bakery. Damn good! My husband took some to work for the crew. He came home giggling because they wanted to place an order with me! I have taken my foodie friends to Penzey's. They are now repeat customers. Makes for great [inexpensive] gifts, as well. I would give this place zero stars if possible. The one star rating is because their spices are generally good. However, the horrible rants that come with the emails have turned me against them forever. Why not just sell a product and be tolerant of differences in political beliefs. Why turn selling spices into a platform for expressing the owner's scathing hostilities toward individuals who do not think and act exactly as he does! I shopped there frequently until I became so tired of the ranting against people like me and things I believe in. I love how one of the negative reviews is "too many spices". They never disappoint when I need a pantry staple spice and I'm always able to find a new favorite (shallot salt, anyone?).
