I ended up with the South of the Border which had pulled pork and was very tasty! It did not disappoint. Service was friendly and efficient even though they were pretty full. I did have a cup of coffee and while it was good, it did seem pricey for a single cup of drip coffee at $3.50. They never offered a refill. They are closed Monday and Tuesday, which is why it took me a while to check them out. I will be coming back. read more

Full disclosure: I never visited the food truck version of this restaurant. However, this morning my wife and I went to the soft opening of the brick and mortar location of the People's Waffle, located at 15 S. Howard. We were enthusiastically greeted by a friendly hostess and promptly seated. We immediately noticed the lively mural on one wall (photo 1) and the clean but stylish feel of the space (photos 2 and 3). Our server, Katie, promptly greeted us and asked for a drink order. She was cheerful and attentive throughout our meal, which was much appreciated. The People's Waffle offers a selection of sweet and savory waffles, so Nancy and I decided to order one of each and share. Nancy ordered the Benny (photos 4 and 5), their take on Eggs Benedict, and I ordered London Fog (photos 6 and 7), a name which coffee stand aficionados may find familiar. The London Fog waffles were topped with a chai "syrup," meringue, and small bits of honeycomb for a delightfully unexpected crunch. As planned, we each ate half of each waffle, and we agreed that they were both delicious. The Hollandaise on the Benny was proportioned just right. The London Fog was sweet but not cloying. The waffles themselves were firm and tasty but not overpowering - the perfect vehicle for the creative toppings. We will be back to try more of them. A nice touch in this time of COVID and social distancing is the touchless pay option (picture 8). I was able to scan the code and enter credit card info or use Apple Pay. It was smooth, easy, and I could do it when I felt like it, which I did after finishing my coffee. I found the prices to be fair and the wait reasonable. Give the People's Waffle a try. I find this place through Yelp and was a quick walk from the hotel. If I lived in town is definitely make this a regular brunch spot. We got a table quickly and or server, Aaron, was friendly and efficient. I chose the South of the Border Waffle and my husband got the Bahn Mi and added pulled pork. We both added an egg to our orders. The waffle itself was fluffy and flavorful, my husband couldn't believe it was gluten free, he normally thinks anything GF is tasteless. Fantastic brunch spot! The waffles have just the right crunch and chewiness and they really do a great job integrating waffles into all their dishes. Highlight dishes are the breakfast sandwiches and the Benny. Great service, really good coffee and we ended the meal with the Sweet Flight giving us a taste of all their sweet waffle dishes. I'd like to update my review from the last one of 3 years ago when this was only a food truck. Now that it is in a permanent spot, I'd say I had a solid 4 star experience. Sweet waffles, savory waffles, lots of options and a full bar at Emma Rues next door. My group had a mixture of both, the chili burger, the waffles and gravy, the Benny waffles the stawberries and the pina colada. The savory side was good, but the sweet side was the winner. The portions are quite large, and we all were filled up before we reached the end of our meals. The Benny was a little over cooked and the poached eggs were not runny at all. But all in all, very nice brunch. The extra spicy Bloody Mary was also pretty much perfect. It's a small spot, and the wait list is long. I discovered this place while browsing through yelp, and it is my favorite brunch place in spokane! I've never had anything like this before-- eggs benedict over waffles. The "South of the Border" can be made vegetarian (they omit the pulled pork) and it's good, but not great. I don't really feel like the price justifies what you get. I think you're paying more for the presentation / the Instagram-able photo than you are the flavor profile and filling-ness of the food. Maybe come here for a snack versus an actual meal. This is such a fun concept which makes it a must-try. They have a great menu with various sweet or savory combinations. My son had the Pina-Colada waffles which were exactly as described. He also ordered a side of bacon that I was pleasantly surprised with, not thin or limp, but good quality. My husband and I both had the Eggs Benny. The flavors were good, but the eggs were overdone. They were more soft boiled than poached. The main reason for four stars comes from the service. We were seated at the barstools by the window even though tables were available. Dropped by People's Waffle on a friend's recommendation. My first thought was how small the place was. Had to wait about 20 minutes, on a Friday, to get a table. Wandered into the coffee joint that is part of the complex. I was treated to a "Seinfeld Soup Nazi" experience as the counter man waved me off after gruffly explaining they were busy, As I was the only person in line, I wandered off perplexed. I hung around the "coffee" place for 15 minutes without ever being asked about an order. By then, the table at "PW" was ready and I bailed. I typically order Eggs Benedict in a new establishment to judge if it's legit. I ordered the "Benny" with avocado at the wait staff's insistence. The "Benny" was among the top three I've ever eaten!!! The preparation was perfect and the avocado was a pleasant addition. I ordered a mocha latte, which turned out to be prepared by the same rude coffee guy from next door!! The breakfast was superb but the wait staff told me the weekend wait can be as much as two hours.
