What followed was one of the worst consumer experiences of my life, involving an unnecessary $2,247 repair, discarded property, and damage to my vehicle that required a Honda dealership to diagnose and document. My vehicle drove flawlessly for hundreds of miles before Pep Boys ever touched it. During the tire installation, they informed me my wheel hub was damaged and needed replacement. I was under time pressure with a camping trip the following weekend, so I trusted them. They told me they would source OEM parts directly from Honda. The total? $2,247. What I got instead: 1. MY TIRES WERE DISCARDED WITHOUT MY CONSENT. I had planned to sell them -- they had significant tread life remaining. Pep Boys threw them away and told me it was too late to recover them. That is not their property to dispose of. 2. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO ME DAMAGED. When I picked up my car, the dash was lit up with multiple warning lights and error messages. I could not change drive modes, AWD was non-functional, and I could not even open the power tailgate. When I raised this with Pep Boys, their explanation was that the car was behaving as if it had been in a collision. That is not an explanation -- that is deflection. 3. It took about 2 hours. Mr. Raul was able to tell me exactly what was wrong with the a/c. He was very transparent and he gave me a printout with everything we discussed in writing. Be Aware! I went online and obtained quote for new battery for my car. The quote includes Battery plus Installation of about $50 including AAT (Additional Access Time) charge and Core Charge, which seem very good price. I then called the shop to confirm the battery and installation cost. The Service Manager told me the installation charges is $200. I asked him why the price so much different from their website and he said he doesn't know. He said replacing battery on my car required battery registration/programming and I asked him how much this cost and he said $19.99. Well! if this cost added to the on-line cost only about $70 installation and NOT $200 as the Service Manager quoted me. It seems like the on-line rates are out of sync with the local shop. read more

After leaving, I got into the freeway and heard scraping noises, pulled over, and saw they forgot to put the bolts back on the panels underneath my car. I would avoid this failed store like the plague. They will attempt to scam you. I went in for tires new tires. The salesman gave me the same old worn out routine, trying to act like he's my friend. I, a certified automotive technician myself, explained to him that I had just done work to the vehicle and had more work that needed to be done. I explain that the front end had just been rebuilt and that the caster would be put on the alignment. I even went as far as to explain to the guy how easy the camber was to adjust. He assured me the mechanics knew what they were doing. I paid almost $1000 for four new tires and they never adjusted the camber on the alignment that I paid for. Furthermore I had explained to my friend at the counter that the rear lugs were rusted and worn. An issue I was aware of and plan to fix this week. I explained that if they simply used an appropriate wrench instead of an air tool to install just the rear lugs that there wouldn't be an issue. Sure enough they broke the stud and tried to charge me to replace them. Tried to tell me that I couldn't take my vehicle in that condition that they had made worse. The salesman also didn't seem to realize I was in the waiting room while he ran his mouth about the situation to his coworkers. He admitted aloud that he didn't know if wheel hubs come with new wheel studs (Most do). When my vehicle was finally finished. I received a report from them about the condition of my vehicle. They claimed I needed front brakes, I had replaced them a few months ago and inspected them yesterday (6/24/26) they're still practically new. The report stated that my front steering knuckle was cracked. I had just replaced that yesterday (6/24/26) and they most definitely weren't cracked. I made an appt at this location just to see if they could figure out the noise under my car. Small thump scratching noise. Surely thought it was front brakes, wheels, or something worst. It was such a hugh relief that when Technician Abraham found and fixed the problem within 30 minutes. A socket had been jammed inside front engine area. It had to be from Sams club auto service, when I had a dead battery in parking lot. So choice but buy and their techs installed it. I pray their error will not have cause future damage. He explained that it couldn't possibly have anything to do with the repairs they did, which I was ready to understand at this point. It seemed odd but it could happen. He could have been more helpful instead of denying it in a way that insinuated that I was lying somehow. The last straw was when I reached home and saw the audio button missing. That was it! What are the odds really? The first thing I do when I get in my car is turn my audio on and I would have noticed if the button were missing. I took the car back right away. He wouldn't acknowledge that the button went missing while the repairs were done. He didn't have the courtesy to check the lights or see how the button could have gone missing. He was adamant in his denial despite me asking if he thought I was lying. My car is old and I really wouldn't have cared if they would have told me if something had accidentally happened. It happens but the fact that he was so unreceptive and rude that I felt I needed to leave this review. Why would I lie about that? I have always gone to Pep Boys and I have always had good courteous service except this time and it will the last time I will go to this PepBoys. I came in for a new set of Kumho tires on July 5th, 2024 for my 2021 Honda Insight, and received what seemed like a great deal... yet I have had nothing but trouble with these tires. Within the first couple months, one tire inexplicably ruptured on the highway (the inside wall was shredded). My car immediately lost efficiency of almost 10 miles per gallon (Hybrid, from 50mpg to 40mpg average). And to top it off, when I returned for routine maintenance on May 20th, I'm told my tires are already worn down and need to be replaced soon. . . I live in Southern California. I drive very carefully and in good weather, always trying to stretch my mileage with gentle braking and accelerating, and they say the new tires they just installed for me already need replacing? Unbelievable. 13,000 miles and 10 months is all they're good for? (They advertise 45,000 miles online!) So, given the flat tire, I had to buy 5 tires over the year, lost a ton of fuel efficiency, and am told I need new tires again 10 months later. I'm not convinced the job was done right the first time. If it was just one, I'd think it was a manufacture's defect. I don't have the budget to buy new tires every year from these people. read more

When I arrived my son called to let me know that he got done with practice early. They were kind enough to push back my appointment by 20 minutes so that I could take him home. First, I have to say, the service was very fast and the service providers were all very kind, however I stopped going to Pep Boys years ago because they would fix an issue, but always seemed to cause others.
