I'm not one to write reviews but my situation at PepBoys made me angry. I made an apt for an oil change specifically online. When I went in, I was told there was no apt for me and they couldn't take me. I showed the man my apt confirmation for the exact date time and location when I showed up. He then said I'd have to reschedule so I did. I came in a couple days later and waited an hour and half for my oil to get changed. A couple days later, an alert on my dashboard popped up saying that I needed an oil change. Confused, I brought my car back since I thought I had just spend an hour and half already getting my oil changed a few days prior. One of the techs looked at my oil and clearly saw there was no oil in there. So after paying for nothing and wasting my time the first time, I had to come back and wait another 2 hours to ACTUALLY get my oil changed. No one ever said sorry for any of the inconviences I experienced with them. Overall, I would not recommend getting any service done here. read more

Pep Boys is my go to for all things automotive. Always courteous service, I've yet to have a bad experience here, or elsewhere. Today I had to get 4 new tires installed and because of my cars tire size they don't come cheap. The customer service rep was kind enough to find me a really good discount which I am very grateful for, saved me quite a bit. I will never go to pep boys for an oil change or any other service. I paid for synthetic oil change. It is supposed to include tread death and tire pressure check. Well after pulling my car out of pep boys the air pressure light came on. The air pressure was low on all four tires. One was at 22. So I guess they didn't check the tire pressure. Now a couple weeks after the oil change my oil light came on. And I checked the oil and there is basically no oil in my car. Something obviously went wrong with the oil change. This not an old car. On top of this I also had an inspection done on the car. I paid around 400 dollars to have the car pass and after this their machine broke. They could not give me a sticker for my car. They told me I had to take the car somewhere else. They did not offer to take the car to another pep boys. They also charged me for the inspection... read more

Worst service I've ever had. Made an appointment for an inspection for the next day, arrived at my appointment time only to be told there was no manager on duty to operate the inspection machine. They could have called me ahead of time at least. They basically left me high and dry. The place is also just a filthy mess in general which says a lot about their operation. read more

Pep Boys has been my go to self-repair stop for twenty years. They have what you need and at a good price. I've never used them for alternators or water pumps, but if you need a filter/wipers/lamps they are as easy as it comes. read more

They ask you to wear a mask but no employee uses one. They took an hour and a half for an oil change. Overpriced unprofessional, they were all on their phones while people are waiting to pay for items. Don't recommend this place in elmwood ave at least can't speak of the other places. read more

Went in an asked them to change a headlight with a bulb that was already purchased on my new car. They tried to charge me $48. To twist a cap and plug in a bulb. You've got to be kidding me. read more

I was extremely disappointed with this location. Called yesterday to see if they had availability for a wheel alignment and they said they had one for noon. Since I had to work I had to find a ride to work so I told them I'd call back if I could drop it off. Called back and they finally answered after calling 11 Times. Today I went to drop my car off and the shop was closed because supposedly the manager didn't show up for his shift and I received no phone call to cancel my appointment. Wow . A few people begged me not to go even for an inspection. I went this morning for my inspection and I was promptly told my truck failed for my rear shock not having any "absorption" with a 300$ quote attached . I said woah woah I have less than 50k on my truck and it was just at Toyota I find this hard to believe" I think his name was Kevin , tall long hair slicked back called me a racist and rudely told me to wait outside for my truck . Here i am 5 hours later , they took my inspection sticker so I drove super illegally to my dealership (north town Toyota) who told me THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH MY SHOCK AND THAT ITS OPERATING BRAND NEW . Visited Pep Boys for an oil change. No complaints about service or price. They were quick, professional, and friendly. Kyle, the guy that runs the desk in the evenings for the Automotive Repairs side of the shop is great. He's always super nice and tells it to you straight. Also stopped to have my alignment checked after a run-in with a curb one particularly slippery morning. Dealt with Kyle again and this guy's 2 for 2. Super friendly, up front about the cost and helped me get the best deal by using the coupons from the website. They have coupons all the time...for oil change, brake checks, alignments...everything. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the rarity that you can be served immediately. It's best to make an appointment and it'll usually be the next day unless you call first thing in the morning. read more

After paying Pep Boys $54 to determine where an oil leak was coming from and $850 later, the car still leaked. We called and made an appointment to repair the repair. We had a 5:PM appointment but they didn't pull the car in until 6:PM. Said they fixed it. Still leaking. Brought it in again, and now they said it was a new leak and would cost an additional $280 to repaired. The only item they were willing to refund was the $54 paid to diagnose the problem. We will never go to Pep Boys again. read more

I can't speak for the service department here but I did buy some Rain X wipers here a few months ago. They were terrible. I took them back two weeks later and they exchanged a new pair of the same ones for nothing. Maybe I didn't use them much or whatever the case may be but I needed them this week and the window was nothing but streaks. I stopped back in and not only did they help me find a new pair to fit my vehicle the guy came out and put them on the car and made sure they worked good. Then said I was all set. Didn't charge me for the wipers or anything. I think they guys name was TJ maybe? Great customer service there. read more

Just went in because I thought my shocks were bad, come to find out the tire was falling off. The employees there were extremely helpful in solving the problem. My sister went here and got charged a whopping $128 to change an alternator belt on a 1997 Toyota Corolla which was squealing. Mind you, at first she just asked them to tighten the belt. Because that's what I told her that she needed. Anyone who knows anything about these cars knows that the alternator belt adjustment is right in the front of the engine and it's a 5 minute job to tighten it at most. They decided to replace the belt for some reason, even though I just put that belt on the car last week, I was in a rush so I didn't get a chance to tighten it down too much. Changing the belt is one of the easiest things you can do on this car, so I have no idea how they came up with $128 to do it.I figured since it's such a simple job, Pep Boys wouldn't charge too much. Silly me for sending her there I guess. If the labor rate is $80 an hour, why in the world would they charge $126 for a 10 minute job? Looks like in this case Pep Boys certainly does not do "everything for less" as their motto says. read more

I needed a new coolant hose and new cables to connect my battery. They charged me several hundred dollars for the work, and when I got home I realized that they didn't give me a new coolant hose. Also somehow took them all day to change the battery cables. One of the worst service ripoffs I've ever experienced. read more

Went there twice bc I had a rattling sound. They said they couldn't find anything and that I would have to get my entire exhaust replaced but it was safe to take a 13 hour car ride. Upon arriving to my destination, my car started shaking so bad I took it to a mechanic who found that there was a missing lugnut. Had damaged it so badly that that I had to have rim, hub and wheel bearing replaced. When I returned home to complain to pepboys they said that there was no way of knowing what was wrong with my car and that a missing lugnut was no big deal even though the wheel had nearly popped off! They refused to admit fault even though they were the last to replace my tires just a few months prior to this incident. Will NEVER go back to pep boys! They are incompetent and deemed my vehicle "safe to drive"! I ended up paying 800 dollars for a missing lugnut that cost 4.99!!! After this yelp review, pepboys responded via email after I contacted them. They said someone would get in touch within 48 hours...never happened. Horrible, just horrible. I got a flat tire and took it to Pep Boys to get it patched up. They told me there was a nail in it and that they patched it up. A few days later my tire went flat again all the way down to the rim. I took it to a different shop, and they said there was a nail in the tire! So basically Pep boys left the nail in my tire and told me it was fixed. It's not the first time it happened either where they said they fixed something, only to find out the problem wasn't fixed. I also took it in to have my blinker fixed and it wasn't. Don't go here! They are overpriced, take a long time, and don't fix what they are supposed to fix! read more

I've had EXCELLENT experiences with Pep Boys in Houston, Texas. However, this location in Buffalo, NY is a law suit waiting to happen. My AC Compressor seized which caused my serpentine belt to break and therefore a chain reaction to the car over heating and eventually there was anti-freeze on the engine bay. I wound up stranded on the highway in Buffalo. New York so I had high hopes that these guys would take care of it so the car was towed there. I explained to the guy, put a shorter serpentine belt on it, I even gave him the damn part number to get and directed him to an educational video online of "how to" do it since he claimed it couldn't be done. Told me they can only replace the compressor - followed by telling me that the new belt would require an extra pulley. The shorter serpentine belt is meant to bypass the compressor pulley, not add another one. Regardless, so they disagreed with me wanted to charge me $1500 for a new compressor. Really ?! That's a $300 part brand new, even with flushing the system what're we talking, $500, $700 dollars after labor? Where's the $1500 coming from. Then they tell me I need a new radiator, my radiator is cracked. Did you do a pressure test? "Uh... Well... Uh...." Needless to say I had another garage in the area go pick my car up from pep boys, he installed the new (shorter) serpentine belt in less than an hour. $100 bucks later I can go get my car, take it home and install the compressor myself. Also - the new garage checked the radiator for me. No chance of a crack, it was the overflow anti-freeze that was covering the engine bay at the time of the incident..... Not the actual tank of the radiator. Sorry pep boys, but when a woman knows more about how to fix her vehicle than you do, you might want to hire some new people. If you have nothing better to do with 2 grand and you're satisfied with a mechanic whose lacking fundamental principles, then this is your spot. Otherwise I advise you steer clear. read more

First of all I was calling every parts store out there and Pep Boys on Elmwood Avenue near Hertel gave me the Best Deal. I 1st spoke with Don in the parts Department over the phone, I explained what I needed. Don was very warm and friendly and found me a Bundle package of Ceramic Brake Pads with all hardware included and a Lifetime warranty and 2 Rotors with a 2 year Warranty for $103.00. This beat all of the others prices by at least $20.00 + and Dons friendlyness over the phone definitely made it a Good Feeling deal. 2 days later when I went to pick up the parts 11-10-2017, Don had called in sick but I had the Luck of meeting another Great Customer Service Parts Man by the name of Mark. Mark got me my parts for my Bundle Package and also a Battery for my car which was very much needed. He made sute I got all of the Custmer Discounts currently available, along with a 6 month interest free credit. The temp outside was in the low 20's with an even colder wind chill and a very cold icy wind which was frostbiting on the hands. My Dad and I were havin trouble getting the old battery out, Mark not only came out into the freezing cold to help but he took his time to take the old battery out and installed the new battery for us free of charge. This was not his job seeing he was in the parts department, not service. Mark went above & beyond his call of duty for My Dad & Me despite the freezing weather. I know his hands had to be freezing cold and stinging him. Needless to say I would reccomend this Pep Boys location to friends & family and they will definitely be my go to Auto Store! Had a inspection done and they never asked if or informed me of a coupon. I called the corporate office to rectify the situation and redeem my coupon. The correct refund should be $15 the store manager is claiming $7 . I advise to stay away they are not customer minded they just want your money.
