I swear on my life I will never set foot in a pep boys as long as I live. I called ahead to see what replacing my car battery would cost. I told them the make and model of my car, and was told it would be $165. I came into the store, told the technician the make and model of my car, and he said replacing my battery would cost $165. So by this point, I'm fairly certain it will cost $165, right? The technician then hands me the form to sign off, and I notice he's written my old vehicle down. I, again, tell him the make and model of my car, and he says it will cost nearly $300 to replace the batter. Excuse me? But I'm in a bind, so I tell them to proceed with the repairs. I get on the phone with a customer service rep, who quotes me two different batteries at two different prices ($104 and $124.) So he gets on the phone with the store and puts me on hold. When he comes back, he makes some attempt to explain why I'm being charged nearly three times the lowest quoted price for a battery. I try to explain why this is still an issue, because now I've been quoted five different prices four different times. Then the pep boys technician who I spoke with in the store started to "well, actually..." me. In a (fairly justified, I'd say) fit of rage, I canceled my service. I then called AAA, who replaced my battery for $177 in the pep boys parking lot, and offered better customer service to boot. read more

In this day and age when customer service seems to have fallen on the wayside then you have Pep Boys. I took my new car in with a nail in the tire, requesting a tire repair. Art let me know since I didn't have an appt it would be 1.5 hr. No problem, I left the car and exactly 1.5 hr later received a call from Art stating my car was ready. I walked into the office credit card in hand, complimenting Art on his accuracy on the wait time. He then went on to inform me there would be no charge, due to being a first time customer! You would think the Cadillac dealership would offer such excellent customer care, not at all, they quoted $49.99 to repair the tire! I will return to Pep Boys for all our service/tire needs for both vehicles! read more

I normally only take my time to write good things about good service however my experience with Pep boys today was horrible. I made an appointment to have my tires replaced and was told by Mario to come in and I would have a short wait telling him my concern on the pandemic and being out. He assured me it would be 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours. I arrived for my appointment and is told Mario left and will be back in 30-45 minutes and it will be about 4 hours. Horrible service. NOT the Service Center but Wow after glancing over some of these reviews - this place doesn't look so hot, then again why the fuck would you be taking your car to a Pep Boys and complaining about it - Hello, it's Pep Boys - go to a trusted mechanic or the car dealership, if you're looking to score a deal and you choose a place such as this you might as well be going to Jiffy Lube and getting fucked over. If you need a quick oil change and some guys you can trust, head over the The Lube Center down the street and they will take good care of you. Anyhow, onto my review. I went here for a car duster thing - and the service was great. I walked right in, asked the woman at the cash register if they had car duster things and license plate frames and she directed me to both of them Aisle 1B and 2B. Grabbed the car duster I had in mind, glanced over the license plate frames, wandered around a bit to see what else this store carries - didn't purchase the license plate frame or any floor mats, air fresheners etc. but checked them out and took note of the prices. I also asked a guy there who worked in the service center if he'd put my new plates on my car for me and he said sure, had me drive my car around to the service side and put them right on - which was really my main point for coming here! I don't do that sort of thing myself nor do I even own a tool kit or have the necessary tool to get the plates screwed on. So for me, Pep Boys met my needs - car duster in hand, plates on! Update: After contacting Pep Boys corporate, the only action they took was to have the manager of the store Frank call me. I had to now show him proof that I had to purchase NEW oil as a result of the fault service they had done, in order to even get a refund. When I went to the store for the 3rd time now, Frank made me wait several minutes (between 15- 20 minutes) before reluctantly granting me a refund. He was extremely rude & did not apologize once. Furthermore, he made it seem that I was lucky to even be receiving a refund. Such a jerk. Please never trust this franchise with your vehicles, time and money. read more

I made an appointment with them through Caradvise for a regular/conventional oil change for $27.90, upon arrival they tell me that they are going to charge me $50! My CarAdvise appointment confirmation shows that I chose regular oil but they tried to JACK UP the price by using a fully synthetic oil, which is not required for my car. They then made a new p.o. and fixed the error. My appointment was at 11am and it's 12:48pm right now and they haven't touched my car...their excuse is that they are short handed when they have 2 guys changing a damn battery on a car! I finally had to take the tire off myself (which wasn't even on tight) and noticed it was just a warped brake drum! Why didn't they just replace it? Instead of charging him for unnecessary things?! You can walk a horse to the water but can't make them drink. Young guy, Albert, dropped a sale! I came in with cash in hand because I was ready to buy KO2s, total $1100 per the website. He gave me a price of "about $1300" with installation. After I let him know the difference of the online offer, he stuttered that 1300 was the price and maybe I should do it online. Didn't even try to match the price or look into, or talk to the manager. I'm sure each location has a quota but not this one, apparently. You need personable sales people at the front. This essentially affects the workers in the back. Hope management sees this. Can't be losing out on sales, but might have been a blessing in disguise. I asked for help for spray car wax. The guy helping me said he did not know much about car waxes. He did tell me that if I didn't like the product I could return it. I went to return it after I tried it and they said since you used it you can't return it. I asked to speak to the manager. The guys that I am the manager. Hit or miss in terms of how long they will take completing an oil change at this location. I always make an appointment, show up early, and wait 30-90+ minutes. The last time I was in (last week), the person who changed my oil did not replace the window decal indicating mileage for my next oil change and inaccurately recorded my mileage in the computer (seems he just made a number up - was off by more than 11,000 miles). He also did not complete the tire, brake, fluid, etc. inspection nor did he rotate my tires as they advertise. I much prefer the service at the Burbank Blvd location (service-only) but they often seem to be understaffed. I don't expect I will return to the Olive location after my last experience - undecided between trying the Burbank Blvd location again or going someplace other than Pep Boys.ç read more

So I made an appointment two days in advance to get headlights changed. All I needed was an installation seeing as I had already purchased the bulbs ahead of ti I arrived 15 min before the appointment and waited one hour. I got frustrated as time went on and my car just sat in the lot. I went to ask the people what was going on and I was informed that they are just about to start because "the guys just got back from lunch ". Super frustrating as I could have spent that hour waiting at home seeing as no one was even available. Huge waste of time and overall infuriating experience. Do not recommend going here if you expect people to be punctual. read more

We brought in our company truck on Wednesday morning. After approval of the required and recommended components we were told that the truck would be ready Wednesday afternoon around 4pm. We leave for the day at 3:30 so we attempted to pick the truck up after our job on Thursday at 3:30pm. The truck was still not done and no one let us know that it was not going to be done at the stated time and it was another full day and it still was not done. Friday morning comes around and they call because they say we need a new hose part for the A/C ok, that is understandable. However they wanted to charge us $250 for the labor of this part! The entire A/C unit was out and several things were being replaced already. No Way $250 is right. Why would it be so much in labor especially after 2 extra days to finish. Seems very odd to us. No other options really, so we approve the hose replacement with discounted labor to $100 in the morning. We then called at 11:30 and were told the truck would be ready by 1:30pm. We show up to pay at 2:20pm and we are told it is not done yet it will be another hour. So we leave and go back to our shop as soon as we get back to the shop around 2:45pm. We receive a call that the truck is done. So we then have to drive all the way back to pick up the truck. Only good part from this experience is that is seems to work as of now. read more

This place is a joke and these guys are scam artists. I used to come here years ago for the convenience and it was a mediocre shop then they did renovations and made some changes so I thought it be better. Went in to swap out some tires on my car dropped of the tires they gave me a price that was reasonable to get went to get my car so they could do the work because it's a smaller sports car the tires wouldn't fit in them. Came back rep Sean told mw the price would be 3 times the price when I asked why he said it would take a lot more time to take these size tires off and put the new ones on. I said but the other rep saw the size and even another location gave me the same price he said well my me tech won't work on this car for that price pointing out my car was a luxury car so I spoke to the guy that gave me the original price then he said what is he talking about then tried to talk to the other guy saw my bmw and was like oh that's because the techs will need to work slower so they don't scratch the rim because it depends on the material of the rim. Useless. Why make an appointment for a tire patch if they won't look at it for 2.5 hours after the appointment time? They also put the wrong size brake pads on my car after assuring me they had the right ones and that it would be cheaper to have them replace the pads than the dealer.... it was cheaper until a year and a half later when I needed new rotors due to the incorrect pad size. read more

Go there!! I got a flat tire Sunday evening and I luckily found that shop close by. They had to replace it for me, so they replaced it for me same day and it was the end of their day. They went above and beyond! They were very nice and they checked everything they had to check and they explained to me and showed me what happened to the tire! Tried to scam us out of $100 just to give us a check engine code. When we asked for clarification the guy said that's just what they do. When we expressed we didn't want to spend that much just to get the code we were treated with a lot of attitude. The worker tossed the keys back at us and told us to figure it out for ourselves. Today 11/1,  I dropped off my vehicle at 12pm to the Burbank locationon Olive Blvd, the service attendant Jack assured that we would get our vehicle back at 6pm. We told him that it was important that the vehicle was completed today because I my daughter had to go to work tomorrow. He again stated that it would be done by 6pm. At 3pm we called to check status and was told that they hadn't gotten to my vehicle,  however they were going to start on it in 30 minutes.  At 4:30 pm the service attendant Jack call to notify me that they had not even looked at my vehicle.  At that point I had to scramble to find a location that was open on a Sunday at 4:30 pm that could fix my brakes with no luck. I got a ride to pick up my car and when I  spoke to Jack he said we couldn't get to it.  I proceeded to mention that he assured me that my car would be completed today, and that if it wasn't I would have looked for another location. He responded very rudely stating that we didn't even have an appointment and he didn't need to give me any prior notice that he wasn't going to finish the service.  He said that is why I called you at 4:30. That doesn't give me any opportunity to find another place to repair my car. Now I have to call out sick from work tomorrow to get my vehicle fixed.  I will be taking my vehicle to another location. Avoid this place. First of all they either lost or stole my engine cover and then lied and said they put it back on when it was clearly missing and nobody was in possession of my car except them. Second, they said they ran a test that showed I needed a very costly repair, I took my car to a mechanic that specializes in my type of car for a second opinion, and that mechanic popped the hood and showed me that not only do I not need the repair but pep boys never even ran that test that they charged me for! read more

Damn car wash cup holder jackers! If they only knew what a pain in the ass this has been to try and find a replacement cup holder for my car since they stole mine, grrr!! Anyhoo, Stop #194,908 on my search for a cup holder landed me here on Friday and to no surprise, they didn't have what I needed. They did have cup holders and the guy working here even sold me on the "Universal fit" cup holder, but as soon as I brought it out to my car and realized that a vitamin water wouldn't fit in it, well, it was back to the store I went, since what good is a cup holder if it can't hold your XXX Vitamin Wataaah! As for the rest of the store, meh, it's a Pep Boys. The home of the Manny, the Mo and the Jack, sadly, just not the home of my new cup holder. I think I have to finally swear off the service center at Pep Boys. Every time I bring my car in its a hassle and always leads to another issue. I purchases 4 tires last year, and to get the rebate I was forced to purchase the pro rated plan to get a rebate. Now, 14 months later I have a nail in my tire and went back because of the forced purchased protection plan. I could tell the service center was busy, so I figured I couldn't get it done in the hour I had planed. I waited for almost 15 minutes while the service manager checked the person in front of me in. When it was finally my turn I explained what I needed, and why. He asked if I had an appointment. I said no, he said i would need to make an appointment to have the repair done. I said ok, then he said, we don't do same day appointments. Ok so I have a nail in my tire, that I paid (forced to pay) for a protection plan and you won't take care of the problem today? I took my car today to get 2 front tires changed like they recommended on the last service ,so I booked an appointment to get it done by 11am , and it is 4pm and I called to check on my car and they told me that they don't have the tires and they haven't done anything yet!! Are you f**** kidding me????? After 4 hours they didn't even call me to tell me that? Now i have no ride to go to work, and they don't give a solution!! What a shame again with you guys, people at service department are a joke!! .... so after 6 hours finally my car was done , they took that long to change 2 front tires and do alignment!! And on top of that they gave a estimate of $140 and now they are trying to charge $180 one of the most frustrating experience here at this Pepboys, it is time to look for another shop to get my car serviced!!! read more

DO NOT go to this Pep Boy's! Where do I start? They tried to rip me off BIG TIME (this is long, but you must read the whole thing)! I brought my 1989 Toyota Supra in because I blew a water hose. The car is in great condition with a new engine, otherwise. They changed it (took them two full days) and when I went to pick it up, they had done a brake fluid flush and changed the oil, however, the brakes and oil were fine. They also said they did a radiator flush and added new coolant (which makes sense, since the hose burst). Some unnecessary work done. Annoying. Paid $240. THIS WAS JUST THE BEGINNING! I paid, and drove it out. I notice that they must have bumped some wires under the hood because now the engine temperature gauge is working only periodically. A week later, my coolant level was low (the check coolant level light came on) so instead of topping it off, I brought it back to them (thinking it could be a leak with their hose installation). I drop it off and they call me a few hours later to tell me that they need to replace the fan clutch and thermostat and that it would cost $465. They could not explain the low level of the coolant (it turned out later to be an air pocket and all that it needed was to be topped off). About an hour later, another guy calls me (not knowing his co-scammer already called) and quotes me at $380 for the SAME WORK. They're not even organized enough to properly scam people. I tell them I do not have the money and need to take the car back till I get paid. I also informed them that the thermostat probably doesn't need to be changed and that it's just the gauge that isn't working because they bumped some wires and loosened the connection. They insisted the thermostat must be replaced. Before I go to pick up the car, I called to MAKE SURE they added more coolant for me since I had already paid for the hose replacement and subsequent coolant change. They ASSURED me they had. I get in the car and start it and the coolant light is still on...I check the level and it is BONE DRY. They wanted me to drive away and have my engine overheat. So I have them top it off while i watch them. When I am actually going to leave, the technician was very short with me. He quickly walked up, handed me the key and turned to walk away without saying anything. I stopped him and asked him to show me what it was, exactly that they said needed to be fixed. He reluctantly showed me and I can only imagine his attitude was toward the fact I was leaving without having this work done. As a side note, while I was talking to the guy who gave me the first quote of $465, he said, "The good thing is, it looks like this will be the last repair and the car will be good to go", saying it in such a way to try to make me think that was true and everything would be gravy from now on and just pay the money. VERY deceptive. Next, I bring it in to the mechanic of the guy I bought it from (a small shop in van nuys). This mechanic has worked on the car over the years and knows it inside and out and the guy I bought it from is a coworker of mine, so it all seems legit. This mechanic tells me the thermostat is fine and the fan clutch does not need to be replaced, instead he has a silicon compound he can insert in the screws that expands while heated to add needed tension to the fan. Very inexpensive fix. Trying to add insult to injury, the guys a Pep Boys TURNED OFF MY INSTRUMENT PANEL so that I would think it was broken and bring it back to them. I know this because the dimmer knob under the dash that must be turned takes about 5 or 6 full turns to turn the lights completely off. Nobody's knee could have bumped it like that. It takes a very deliberate and prolonged action to turn it all the way off. The name of the crooked technician who was running this scam is named Garson S. Ortiz and the service manager is Alex Meza. Stay away from this place. read more

I took my truck in for service at this Pep Boys to have it's brakes and air conditioning inspected. I knew there was air in the brake lines and that there was likely a crack in the master cylinder and I knew that all the AC components were there and it likely just needed a recharge. I reported all this to the service manager who told me he'd be have the brakes looked at that day, and the AC tech would be out the following day. I never heard from them for the rest of the day. The next day the AC tech called to tell me I'd have to have the AC system converted to handle the new coolant, as the old R12 isn't legal any longer. I told him "never mind". I called back that afternoon to ask about the brakes, but was told their computers were down and they couldn't pull up my record. I got a call back about an hour later and someone was "just waiting for someone to pull another truck out of a bay, and I'll have an answer for you tomorrow morning". The next day, after not hearing from them all day, I called to inquire about the status. Someone was "just pulling it into the bay now". At 5pm I finally got a call back confirming everything I'd told them when I dropped it off. Master cylinder needed to be replaced, and additional both front calipers needed to be replaced too. How much? Well, they couldn't tell me. Because it was 5pm, they weren't able to find any open places that had parts available. They'd call me back the next day. The next day I FINALLY get a quote: $640 for parts and labor. I authorize the work and they promise it'll be done that day. So I go to pick up the truck the next morning and the total with parts and labor comes to $1250! I pointed out that I was quoted $640 and that's all I approved... nobody called me to ask about additional work or additional charges and that was WAY beyond what I could afford. After getting another service manager, and the shop manager, they were able to lower it to $641 with various discounts and approvals... Still more then I was quoted in terms of time and money but I just wanted to get the hell out of there. I won't take my truck back there... Nor do I recommend anyone taking a vehicle there unless you have time and money to spare. read more

Don't bother coming here. HORRIBLE experience. I had to wait 5 hours for an oil change and a smog test. The smog test FAILED bc I had changed my battery with triple A the day before and I didn't know that it affects the electronics part of the test. I told them this too before they did the smog test...... I made an appointment too, so it was even more irritating I had to wait so long for something that should take tops 1 hour. I will never come back or recommend anyone to come here. The only redeeming part is that they took $20 off my oil change for the long wait. Whatever, I lost money doing that stupid Smog test there....and I also wasted a lot of time. I took the car to Joe's Smog Check & Test in North Hollywood and the experience was a million times better. He took like 25 minutes to complete the test too. Will go back there for sure!!! read more
