Recently went in because my car started dying whenever I came to a complete stop. Now I don't know much about cars so I assumed there was something very wrong with my car that would be very expensive. I came in the morning (I had an appointment made) and Raul took my car. After less than 15 minutes of diagnosing the car, he told me that no work needed to be done and that my idle just needed adjusting. I have personally been ripped off by mechanics before so for me this was a big deal. They could have definitely taken advantage of my situation and they didn't. For years I went to the El Monte Store and was not really happy with the customer service but kept going because of one employee "Jaime", who was able to provide me with excellent customer service so I kept going. However once he left the El Monte Store it seemed like the remaining employees could care less if you were there or not so I began patronizing the Downey store where Jaime transferred to and true to form, I received Excellent Customer Service! He is fast, efficient, honest and takes the time to help you resolve your individual car issue. Came for an oil change and change of brake pads. $440!!! WTF!!! Are they made out of gold or what. My car did not have any check engine light before entering the shop and only drove the car for 15 minutes when boom check engine light turns on. Seriously, to top it off I checked my car again and they didn't properly close the oil cap nor the hood. How the heck are you guys still in business?!?! DON'T DO IT!! I can only say that. I have a Jeep Cherokee XJ that I had repaired there for several things, My fault for taking it there. Most of the work had to be redone, MISSING SCREWS, BUT that's not the bad part!!!! Simple rear brake job & THEY PUT REAR BRAKES ON BACKWARDS!!!! Adjusting screw was even put on backwards! That's scary! It was a while back & my "warranty expired" so oh well tough, "Heres a few bucks off labor if you want us to re-do them for you" is their response! I really cant say much more other than DONT DO YOUR SERVICE FOR ANY REASON THERE. These guys are supposed to be ASE certified and should know the simple & basic things of services & they dont really know what to do. Im never, ever taking my cars there again. OH & before I found out about the brakes, I took my Toyota for a brake inspection & the truck almost fell off the Lift causing the lift to slip off the frame of the truck & hit the Gas tank!!!!! OMG thats what kind of guys they have working there!!!???? Whats going on? THESE ASSHOLES DON'T EVEN DESERVE 1 DAMN STAR! BUT YELP MAKES YOU GIVE THEM AT LEAST THAT! Anyways, I took my pick up truck there, because it was over heating! I ask them to please look at the issue, and to let me know asap because I wanted to fix the matter and be able to make it to work that evening! These guys admit the truck in and tell me to give them some time to look at it and see what was wrong. I did so! I even had someone come and pick me up, and we took off for an hour, to come back to learn they looked at it! I ask them how much longer would it be for them to look at it and they said they were getting right to it. I left again for another hour to only come back and learn once again that these guys never got around to looking at the truck. By now, my blood was boiling, because not only have they wasted my time but I needed to have the issue resolved soon because I needed to go to work. So I go and find the Hispanic guy who acted as if he didn't give a damn about the customers or what they had to say. I told him about my issue and and then I noticed one of his crew members to go over and prop the hood up for 1 minute to look me in the face and say "There is nothing wrong" I was pissed at this point! Not only have they at this point wasted my time and energy, but now they are trying to tell me that my truck sat there for nothing. So, I did not pay for the crappy evaluation and parked the truck outside the pep boys and called my mobile mechanic instead, to come and look at truck. Well, surprise surprise! Like I figured, my radiator had hole in it and it was so very noticeable as soon as he lifted the hood! SMH (That's not good Pep Boys) That was money lost because! I ended up having my radiator replaced right there in the Pep Boys parking lot by my mobile mechanic! Funny, because they told me there was nothing wrong with the truck! I would never take my vehicle there, or ever purchase anything from this business again! read more

My Vehicle is in the body shop because these idiots managed to "professionally" put the arms to the hydraulic lift that is used to lift the vehicle in the air in the WRONG place so each passenger and driver side now have a huge bump popping up where i would normally step to get onto my vehicle, the side panels no longer close...total body damage according to caliber collision is $10,500!!!!! "THEY CAUSED BODY DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE" and knowingly returned it to me....glad I inspected it! Driver side was not as bad as passenger but the passenger side WOW!! absolutely have to had heard the body you popped up with force "16 inches!" The manager acted like a douche saying to bring it and see if we can fix it....lol...really! The least you could do is apologize for the damage that your idiot employee caused to my vehicle and own up to the fact! Glad I filed a report through corporate. This place is a joke.....oh yea and don't fall for the FREE brake inspection BS....they end charging you almost 20 bucks at the end. The Only REASON Why I gave This Place 1 star Is because the Dude Jaime that handled all my shit prior to the $10,500 damage was totally professional! read more

Went in this morning for an oil change as soon as they opened. The guy who helped me out was not in a very good mood. After my car was finished with, the manager Rafael Cisneros rang me up and told me that one of my lights was out. I asked him which one and he said he didn't know. I told him, "They didn't write down which light was out when they checked it?" and he was like, "They don't give you that option to fill it out on the paper". If there is a light out and they write it down why wouldn't they tell you which one? So he proceeded to check me out and after I paid I asked him to ask the gentlemen who did my oil change and inspection, which light on my car was out. He was rude about it as he went outside to ask and then came back and told me it was the right side in the rear. I don't think I would want to come here again, I'd rather go somewhere where the manager and employees are more polite and kind. These people didn't seem very happy at all. Overall they gave me the impression of laziness and not caring how they perform. read more

My mother n law's van was due for a oil change and I just can't see myself going any where else then Pep Boys. The adviser's both gave us their attention,one adviser got our information and set us up with getting us checked in right away without to wait.My husband and I were starving we went out to eat as we finish we receive a call regarding the car was ready.My husband was happy with the part we received a courtesy call while we finish our lunch.I walked around looking for some air fresheners my favorite is Febreze car vent clips they actually last 30 days.Sometimes we don't drive our cars as frequently as everyday and the smell of a Febreze when the AC runs throw the car gives a nice smell.I would recommend but everyone has a different nose sensitive or not sensitive. Lol...Everything on the van was found well.Fluids topped off ,tire pressure checked and the van running like a champ.We even had the service manager cash us out with great customer service.Since we've gone there for years he recognized us so we started to catch up on how our dogs were doing and our lives.I would recommend this Pep Boys to everyone the retail manager Jesse and staff are also great at customer service. read more

After purchasing two sets of their tires for my car and truck over the last two years I will never set foot inside this location. We rented a car from Enterprise and we got a flat on the way out of town on the day before the 4th of July and it was almost 8pm and they close at 9, and Enterprise said just go anywhere that is open and we'll cover the cost. So I called my Local Pep-boys and the gentleman on the phone said Sure just come on in, but he said let me check with Service first, So the guy in charge of Service said their all booked up and just come back after the holidays. I said really? Were on are way out of town and just need one new tire. He said their booked up for the night. I remember "the good old days" when the customer was king not the new breed of workers who just look at the clock to see when its quiting time. Really Pep-boys? Corporate needs to take a hard look at this new breed of thinking thats going on here. read more

After arguing, "about how can you charge for a diagnose that you won't back up" they did not charge for the diagnostic test. Don't see how you can charge for something that you can not guarantee is wrong with the car. They couldn't fix it but told me to go to a muffler shop, and tell them it has an exhaust leak, we actually did that before we picked up the car and the muffler shop laughed, they can't go by what another mechanic says. They would have to charge me to inspect of course. Anyway, today, 9/6 going to another mechanic, not muffler shop. They will check on their equipment if they can't fix it they won't charge you. What a concept, Pep Boys. Maybe you should try this. THANK YOU FOR THE NO CHARGE AFTER ARGUING, THAT WAS APPRECIATED. I will update again. NOW I KNOW WHY PEOPLE ALWAYS LAUGH AT US FOR TAKING OUR CARS TO PEP BOYS. Let's hope that this gets resolved and I can update this review. Well, this review might change but I seriously doubt it. I will be going to get my bad running truck that I brought in to see why it is running rough. Pep Boys, charges 90.00 okay fine. Well, how about a phone call that says, "we are not sure why your car is running or idling rough. It shows everything fine, the only way to really see what is wrong is to take it somewhere else where they can check the exhaust leak that it may or may not have. We can't check that. It may be the manifolds, WE DO NOT KNOW BUT ONCE YOU HAVE THAT CHECKED OUT WE WILL RECHECK FOR FREE". WOW.... Really! So I have to pay 90.00 for checking my truck that they can't diagnose. They don't know what is wrong. So I am PAYING 90.00 FOR A MAYBE DIAGNOSIS. So now I am going somewhere else and probably paying another 90.00 or so. If they muffler shop does fix it then Pep Boys should give me my money back or what if they tell me they can't fix it now how much do I have to pay someone to find out what is wrong. This is bad service, I have always had excellent help at this Pep Boys let's hope something changes in the next couple of hours. read more

There is a hispanic girl who never wants to accept returns. I bought a battery which I later found i didnt need two days later. I went to return it and she said "we do not accept returns on batteries. THIS IS NOT TRUE. I needed a battery for another car and she said "well ill let you exchange it" I should have just gotten a refund and not shopped here. She later told me there was no returns on "electronics"... Just to start off I had an amazing experience at pepboys and highly suggest it to anyone looking to repair or just obtain simple maintenance. So I went in a couple weeks ago for an oil change and man was I blind to how much maintenance my car really needed. I recently took in my 98' Accord because of a creaking sound ( I figured it was my shocks so I was expecting to get that). After taking look they told me I needed new struts and that after lubricating my shocks, it won't be necessary to put on new ones. (Wow, a mechanic that's saving me money). My girlfriend's 70 year old mother was driving down the freeway to pick us up from the airport when she blew a tire. When she realized and got off the freeway it was shredded and smoking. By this time we've landed and are sitting outside waiting with our luggage. AAA took her to Pep Boys, and originally she was told 2+ hours. But an employee named Jonathan Robles heard the situation, saw how frazzled she was and made some calls. Within 40 minutes she was done and on her way. Nice to know where you can go to get good service. As a female it gets difficult to find honest mechanics. Had a flat tire, went to pep boys and Jonathan (Service department) was very helpful. He explained to me that because I drove on a flat tire it caused my tire to peel, a simple fix a flat would fix it but it would be dangerous to drive it because of the damage. I opted to buy a new tire. The wait wasn't long and I did some shopping while I was waiting. Friendly employees, Dayzi helped me find what I needed to buy, and as we were leaving the manager Rene made sure we were happy with the service we got. This was the first time we went to this pep boys usually I go to a Tire shop on Slauson & Rosemead but they close at 6pm. I was expecting an inflated price for a tire but to my surprise the price was very reasonable. I recommend this Pep boys not just because the good service you get but also for the friendly staff that work there. read more

Stay clear away from their service department! I had headlight bulbs installed which were supposed to be the brightest legal halogen bulb on the market...they were no brighter than the ones I had already on. The guy who put them in walked around the whole building three times trying to find my truck which was parked right behind their service garage...I had to go out and walk him to it. He didn't even pull the truck into the service garage...he popped the hood open right in the parking lot..on a day that it was sprinkling outside..and he put the bulbs in. He didn't bother wearing gloves and touched the bulbs which ultimately will cause hot spots on the lights from the oil in the skin. I noticed a few days later two perfectly spaced and same shaped dents near where a person would close the hood. Pep boys was the last place I went and the last time the hood was opened/closed...so one could conclude it happened there. There's no way it was from a cart or debris as the truck sits higher than a sedan of course. And they're perfectly spaced and shaped near each other. I called around to get prices on getting the dents out and it would cost way too much for me...so now is stuck with two dents on my hood. Thanks Pep Boys. Never again! read more
