I went in to buy 2 new tires, have them installed and get my axles aligned. Price wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either. I was told at 1pm that I'd be leaving around 3pm. I figured I could just wait rather than get an Uber home and back. Well, I went up to get an update on my car at 3:15, they said there'd been an issue on their end and I'd be waiting another 15-20 minutes. 3:30 comes and goes but I try to be patient, I know the pandemic has been hard on everyone. Finally at about 4pm I get the notification that the work is all done and I'll be getting checked out soon. It's as I look up from that message on my phone that I see the biggest cockroach I have ever seen in my life. It was the thickness and length of my thumb and I have BIG fingers. My wrangler's tire had a hole in it and I needed a used tire to fill in for it. I was on a low budget and they helped me find the least expensive tire that would work. After deciding it was out of my budget Enrique one of the workers there came out to me in my Jeep and said he found a discounted one and put it on for me. Don't trust these guys with your car, it could cost you your life. That is the truth. I brought my car in with a coupon that was supposed to include a tire rotation, an oil change and an inspection. Day of service went fine with no problems. Go forward one week, I am changing my brakes with my dad when we see one of my tires bald to canvas. They didn't even tell me that and I could have had great bodily injury. I called the service manager the next day trying to see why they didn't inform me of the tire damage. As a female, I am always paranoid about going to any kind of auto mechanic. Although I think the sterotype is ridiculous and I feel as though I should not fall victim to it, I always always always get the short end of the stick when I take my car into be serviced. I took my car into Pep Boys, not because of the great ratings on Yelp, but because I could make an appointment online late sunday night when my car started to make a horrible noise... I always read Yelp reviews before going most places, but always take them with a grain of salt... Needless to say, I should have listened. Yes, the online appointment center was great and I had peice of mind that my car would be serviced in the morning. But, I dropped by car off with my boyfriend (I refuse to go alone anymore) around 9:30am, and told them about a horrible noise my car was making and that the battery light was on, they called me within an hour and told me that my alternator was going out, my radiator and hoses were leaking and need to be replaced, and my air filter needs to be replaced. So I was looking at almost $2,000 worth of work. Also, my air filter had just been changed within the last 5,000 miles, so that was a red flag. Pep boys won't patch any leaks in the radiator hose or whatever, they only replace (according to the mechanic I spoke with). So, make sure you find out how critical or severe the "problems" are before you authorize the work to be done. Anyway, I decided to get another opinion at a different mechanic and they were much more accomidating and my repairs that were critical was going to cost me around $250.00... not $2000.00. Additionally, Pep boys wanted to me to pay the labor cost for running a diagnostic. (100.00)... I told them that they advertised free diagostic testing and alternator testing, and they removed the charge. Anyway, I will not be here again, and I'm glad I checked around and went somewhere else. I've been buying parts for my car from this store for many years, and I've always been extremely happy with their level of service. When I called in today to find out about buying rotors and brakes, Jasmine answered the phone and quickly answered all my questions. She had amazing product knowledge, but what really impressed me more was her enthusiasm and customer focus. I could tell by all the voices in the background that they were busy and she focused on me. She definitely made me forget about any other quote I got from the other stores and I drove over there a few minutes later. When I got there, even before I got to the parts section, Kevin(parts mgr) greeted me and started helping me. I told him the list of things I needed and he quickly brought up all the parts on his computer screen and he explained the options and made recommendations. Meanwhile, the phone was blowing up, and he politely let me know he had to take the call. The gentleman on the phone kept asking many questions for specs on numerous parts and when Kevin finally had a chance to say anything, he politely told him that he was helping a customer in front of him and would be happy to call him back right after he was done. Kevin asked one of the other staff if she could help the gentleman, and the man got mad because it was busy and demanded to speak to the store manager. Despite the phone ringing constantly and other distractions, Kevin's multitasking abilities were great, and still made sure that I didn't feel like he was ignoring me, and explained my options thoroughly. He also noticed that I was limping a bit and offered to bring everything to my car as well as install my wiper blades because I just had surgery last week. While Kevin was getting my things, I decided to look for a sunshade, and Jasmine noticed me looking around and immediately came over to help me. I told her that I talked to her earlier and she asked if there was anything else she could help me with. Kevin brought everything to check out and while Jasmine was ringing me up, he went over every purchase and was able to find rebates that saved me $50. On top of that, he reminded her that I get a veteran's discount. Then he told me I earned $10 in additional rewards which saved me even more money. So what would of cost me over $400 elsewhere turned out to be under $200 here. I just wanted to thank Kevin for his help. Both Kevin and Jasmine show their dedication to superior customer service. On 7.29.17 I had $726.09 in work on my 2001 Nissan Sentra done at the Redlands Blvd Pep Boys in Redlands, CA...The car was not running properly after the work was done, so I took the car to another shop for a inspection...I was ripped off by the Pep Boys Techs at this location: (1) Told Tech to run OBD II scanner to pull codes, engine runs rough...Turns out the scanner was never used, If they had scanned the car, they would have pulled a trouble code that indicated a bad rear oxygen sensor...(2) Found that the spark plugs had not been changed during the tune-up, this is retail fraud as I was charged for new plugs... A MAF sensor code was also missed, And the techs did not clean the throttle body...I had to spend $400 at another shop to repair the car correctly...I took all the receipts and the old parts - plus 'new' parts as proof, and both the store manager and the service manager agreed to refund me to my card for $447.62... They told me a Rhonda Grant at (215) 430-9095 X 6327 would call me on the details to get my $447.62 back... I waited two weeks and this lady never calls me...So I finally called her for days, no luck, leaving VM's on her phone...She would not call me...I called customer relations and they told me to call the supervisor, Steve Shur, at the same number X 4675...I have left three phone call messages for this man, still no results, no returned phone calls... Both the store manager and the service manager (Carlos) agreed that I was due a refund of $447.62...But everyone from Pep Boys Claims Dept refuses to return my phone calls...This is horrific customer service location...Don't go near this place... read more

While recently making repairs to my car in order to make it pass smog, I had visited this Pep Boys location quite a few times over the past few weeks. My experiences were always great and staff was always helpful. Chris is a super knowledgeable and friendly associate. Armando, the shop supervisor and Dan the smog tech were also super accomodating to my needs. Got my car smogged and in and out in about 15 minutes. This location also recently received their test only license, so i'd avoid those swindlers across the street and come here....pricing was also lower by about $10-$15. I can't speak for other services, but a clean store, friendly staff and satisfying service deserve 5 stars from me. Thanks guys! read more

Had an appointment for tires to get installed. These tires were pre-purchase from TireRack, who mounted and balanced the tire prior to delivering to PepBoys. My appointment was for 10am and it took over 2 hours for them to basically pull my old rims and tires off and install the new ones. Made an appt for an oil change, alignment, tire rotation. I canceled the appt and easily rescheduled. Staff was friendly and professional. My only gripe was, i ended up needing extra work done. Totaling over$500. I paid for the work. Came time to pick up my vehicle and the plastic was still on my seat and the oiled and dirty paper was still on the floor. This place is the worst for appointments! Don't come here to get an oil change. I made an "Appointment" and when I got here they said it would be another 1.5 hours for them to even get to my car! Was waiting inside and didn't get my keys back until checking on the progress myself instead of having a name called or anything. Also asked for the tire pressure to be checked, which wasn't. This place is just about money. I was going here for awhile to get my oil changed. To day finally was the last draw. Normally I would bring my own oil and filter and pay $23. The price went up to $66. I got a quote motor mounts since I knew they were bad, they quoted me $2500. I brought the required mounts and went somewhere else and pay $400 to get them installed. Not to long ago I did my front brakes and rotors. So I just needed them bleed. I asked them how much. They quoted me $63, which I was fine with. Then tried to say my brakes were contaminated with grease and I'll need to replace all of them. They told me it would cost $1300.00. So I took them to a place where I have I my some mechanical woe some. They check brakes and bleeding my brakes and told me I did a perfect job. I payed $83 at the other place. I don't recommend anyone getting mechanic work completed here, all they care about is money! So, I guess I'll be doing my oil myself for jow on. Came in to get some wheel alignment service for our BMW I3. Three tires were replaced from the dealership but they charge a lot for whee alignment so I opted out do it somewhere else. Part of store is being remodeled when we came in about 2-3 weeks ago. We were the only one waiting so the moment one of their rep was free he helped us. My only gripe is if you're going to help someone then make them wait because you have to answer every call coming in when in fact other people are there working with you, that's rude. Be mindful of your customer who's actually at the store waiting and standing than people calling in. I understand you have to answer but you should've asked your co worker to help us instead or have them answer the phone. The rude part is you felt like that was part and didn't bother stating the fact and apologize you have to answer the phone. I'm glad when we came back, you asked your co worker to help us check out. read more

This is my first post about PB. First every time I go there they are ALWAYS under staffed, always! My wife went there yesterday to get a screw out of her tire. 1.5 hours later they were finished, really 1.5 hours to pull a screw out! Also told wife it would take 4 hours to rotate tires. When asked how many mechanics are working, they said only 2. Ended up taking it to the nearest Dodge dealership, even though it was a Chevy. They got me right in. Only $35 for rotation AND balance. I was finished in 40 minutes. PB please staff your stores appropriately, no one should have to wait 1.5 hours to plug a screw hole! read more

The worst service. I've been a loyal customer for years and a simple oil change is too much for this location. After my service my oil was leaking and when I took it back they admitted they didn't change the $1.50 gasket and that was the problem. I have gone back twice to be refunded but no one seems authorized to do that that works there so months later my issue is still not resolved. read more

Initially, I was SO impressed with their service department. The estimate was professional and the waiting area was way better than I expected. Paid my bill and took off. Then I noticed the disgusting condition of my steering wheel. It WAS white, but I doubt it ever will be again. It was sticky and black. Another issue cropped up, which I couldn't swear was their fault, but I felt it was enough to call and complain. I was told they would look into the matter, but I have had no return call. Last week I did back rotors and brakes and today I got front rotors and brakes and a smog check done. Pep Boys made my car smoother than it has ever been. 2/25/18 Went in for a simple oil change, my own filter and oil. Booked an appointment online at 3pm, went to the desk and the service clerk notified me that the appointment system online was broken and it should not have confirmed it for me. He ended up finding a spot for me, told me to check back in an hour and it will likely be done, +1 star. Waited two hours, finally went up to the desk because they were about to close and it was starting to try my patience. Turns out my key is on the desk next to the clerk, likely had been sitting there the past half hour or more. No apology about the wait for me, but an apology and discount to the couple in front of me likely spending more money... I got my brakes serviced and it drives like a dream now. Also special shout out to Paul for having incredible patience with me. The only reason this review is getting 2 stars is because the lady who works at the register is super chill and friendly. The guy with the long beard, however, is a different story. Came in to return a couple items and didn't have my receipt on me. He says that if he can pull up the transaction with my Rewards account/phone number, he can do a refund in the form of store credit. Alas, it works. As he's finishing up the transaction, he says in a condescending tone, "the return period is 60 days, not 4 months." DUDE, if I HAD the receipt, I definitely would have been here within the 60 days!!! Just to make sure I wasn't dreaming it, I asked him if I would have been able to get a cash refund without the receipt within 60 days. He says no. So what exactly was the point of that comment? Complaint Type: Service Issues Description of Complaint: They definitely failed to live up to their posted "Service Promise" that states..."When we say fast, we mean it!" This is the second time that my local Pep Boys has let me down and I will not have it happen again. About a year ago, they kept plugging my tire instead of replacing it as the insurance company had asked them to do following an accident, and I had to make numerous trips before they did so. I felt at this time that the staff was just being lazy, but truly now understand that it starts at the top as their Service Manager lacks the leadership and people skills necessary to hold his team accountable. Today's timeline/experience below: 9:08am - Arrive at the location and explain that I just had my battery charged by AAA and told that it needs to be replaced. I was greeted very nicely by the women at the counter and she was great in helping and offering different options. During this time, a representative from the garage came in looking for jobs and stating in front of the customer that he had to many techs standing around and needed something to do. I closed out my work request for the new battery install and was told it would be 20-30 minutes. I then left to go grab coffee. 9:21am - I get a call from the helpful woman who said I am ready for an oil change and she gave me the options. I agreed to the upsell and at this time expected it to be a little longer. 9:35am - Returned to location and didn't see my car getting worked on and told they would check and give me a status. 9:55am - A tech came in and I asked how long for the Lexus and they said they didn't know as they just pulled it in. At this time I asked to see a manager and complained rather loudly about how long the process took. 10:00am - Expressed to the manager that I need a time because I am missing work and they couldn't give me a timeframe. He did offer to give me a ride to work if needed. 10:19am - He pulled the car off the rack with just the battery replaced. Didn't change the oil and finish the job. This has to be one of the best automotive repair experiences ever. Joe and Chris are awesome. I was told by a shop earlier that I needed to replace my battery and badly needed to replace the terminal clamps. I put in the order, repair was done faster than quoted. The best part was they said my terminal clamps in my car were better than the ones I was buying from them, so they cleaned mine and saved me the extra and unnecessary expense. When was the last time you had any auto shop or dealer do that? Can't reccomend these guys and THIS location enough! Fast, friendly, and perfect. This particular store is NOT one that I would return to, due to the fact that their service department staff (J.C-manager) will boldly lied (or maybe he is just ignorant) to your face that this particular brand of tires (Starfire) is made by Cooper. Well, my extensive researched revealed the fact that it is NOT made by Copper. Cooper acquired the brand (Starfire) from another manufacture and it is a subsidiary of Cooper (now that is...). My issued with this matter is the principle of all society and the humanity who has become a cyst pool of lies in an attempt to self-gain or the gains of a corporations; but in any event, one must not lower themselves to such disgusting and demoralizing their own personal values in life, whether it is benefiting a corrupted corporations or for your own personal gain, its just not worth your honor or dignity. read more

Had two not so great experiences here. 1) Last year i needed some new tires for my SUV. They had a special for buy 3 tires and get the 4th one free. I purchased a generic store brand(Definity) set of four. Basically its cheaper just to buy four tires elsewhere. Because you have to pay for the tire installation package which includes road hazard warranty, valve stems and balancing. After all the add ons it still cost me over $500. But the worse part of my experience was not the tires it was the service. So the mechanic broke one of my TPMS valves and would not replace it. He said i would have to pay for it myself. I didn't want to pay for it so i have one TPMS valve that does not work. It worked fine when i took my car in but now it doesn't work. Go Figure. 2) I needed a new battery last month. I had my 5 and 3 year old daughters with me. I stopped in to ask if they could replace it and how long it would take. They said they would get to the car in about 45 minutes. So i went ahead and gave them the keys and walked to a near by store to kill time. I cam back an hour later and my car was still in front of the store where i parked. I asked the worker if it was done yet, he said "our guy will get started on it pretty soon". I was annoyed. But the most annoying part it took them another hour to switch the battery. A simple battery change took them a total of two hours. I just dont like it when people overpromise. I don't mind sitting for two hours but just let me know upfront. I am not going back to this location. Given my two experiences and the bad customer service i received I will gladly take my business elsewhere. read more
