Went to Firestone down the street my breaks quote was $1240 my face(s): told them I never even paid that at bmw. They dropped it to $875 I said you know what no thanks put my tires and stuff up an I'll be on my way. They tried to charge me $19.99 inspection when it states break check is free. I came to this pep boys here and my job not only was cheaper it was half the price of the 2nd price they mentioned. They hooked me up big time thanks to Charlie and crew. read more

Two weeks ago, a week after I purchase my brand-new car, I bought a set of wheels with tires online at Tirerack.com. Before I bought the wheels, I called Pepboys (since they are one of the recommended installers close to my place by Tirerack) and asked them if they could take the TPMS sensors out from my 1 week old stock wheels and install them to the new tires I'm planning to buy at Tirerack. They said it's fine and they can do it. I asked them if should I purchase the TMPS sensors from Tirerack but they said my TPMS sensors are still new and it's better to keep the OEM sensors. I came in at 4:30PM, someone helped check in right away. The cost was $148 to do everything. I sat down to wait from 5PM up until 6:30 when one of the guys told me that one of their mechanics got into an accident and injured himself and they are now short staffed and they cannot work on my car. I agreed to reschedule to the next day. The next day, I came in at about the same time as before but now there is a long line at the tire dept. After about 1 hour of waiting in line, a different guy now helped me and told me I need to pay $180 for everything. I just want it done so I just quickly asked that it's $180 not $148 and did not make a big deal on them changing prices. At 6PM, I see them taking my car to the garage. At 6:40, they are done. That was quick! The new wheels look awesome, and everything looks good. Upon checkout, another guy told me I just need to pay $148, not $180. Okay, cool! I live 5 miles from the Pepboys so the TPMS sensor didn't light up until I took my car to the freeway the weekend after it was installed. I called them again to tell them about the TPMS sensors light and they said they can fix it. I asked the guy if the issue might be the TPMS sensors not installed, but the guy reassured me that the sensor was installed last time. I came in to the shop explained everything and the guy told me they will look at my wheels for $14. The issue came out 5 days after their work and they are still going to charge me for it? I politely agreed and since I walked in with no appointments, it will take a while before they can work on my car. I called Uber and went home. A guy called me about 2 hrs. after I dropped off my car and they told me they cannot reset the TPMS sensor on my car since it's a 2017 model. They can only do 2016 models or older and I should bring my car to the dealership so they could reset the sensors for me. The following weekend, I brought my car to the dealership and explained to them the issue that I was having. The guy at the dealership service department laughed and said their system is the same on old or new models. The guy from the dealership got back to me and printed out a report that shows all four TPMS sensors are not communicating. Most likely it's missing. Went back to Pepboys to show them the report and the guy (same guy I've been working with) said the wheels and tires where delivered to them ready to install and the TPMS sensors was supposed to be there. Told him the wheels don't come with the sensors and they were supposed to remove the existing TMPS sensors from my old wheels and install it to the new ones. He said they can do it for $120. At this point, I just want to be over with and agreed for them to do it and I went home. 2 hrs. after, the guy called me and said, the mechanic that can do this did not come to work that day and he have other mechanics that can probably do it but he doesn't trust them and they may scratch my new wheel. I was surprised about the fact that among 10, maybe 20, mechanics on that shop, he only trust 1 mechanic to be able to replace TPMS sensors on wheels. With my disbelief, the only word I could say was "Okay..". He went on and asked: So, its fine to have your wheels all scratched up? I said: No, so should I set an appointment when your good mechanic will come in then? (just to hear what he's going to say) He then said: if you really want to have this done today, I know a place called Salinas Tires, they are open today and you could bring your car there. They have the tools that can remove the tires from your wheels without scratching your wheels. He just admitted that they didn't have the proper tools to do the job to begin with! If they had only told me that in the first place, I wouldn't have any work done with them. Instead, they had to lie about everything. I won't even consider Salinas just because the guy who recommended it is no untrustworthy. At the end of it all, I still have my TPMS sensor alarm nagging at me. Paid $148 for them to unmount my old wheels and mount new ones (which I could do myself). The important thing that I was hoping they would do, they never did. I you have time and money to waste, come to Pepboys, they will not disappoint. Buy if you want to get things actually done, go elsewhere. read more

My brake light harness needed to be replaced. I thought wire splicing was involved but Luis looked at it and was like Let me see the car... . Went out he just undid one of the plastic connectors and plugged it in and it worked. Unfortunately the new harness had one socket that did not fit my light. Luis said no problem cut the correct one from old harness connected wired new bulb done! $13 For a job a dealer would have charged me probably $200! Paid for service that was not performed on my car. I went in to see about a coupon for a synthetic-oil change on their website. It was $20 off and included a tire rotation. The inclusion in the tire rotation was the main reason I chose to go here. It was Saturday afternoon and they were busy, but I was already there so waited to talk to someone to see how long it would take. They tried to accommodate me, but I had an engagement to attend so I made an appointment for Sunday morning. I brought my car just a few minutes before my appointment. Jessica checked me in. As she was filling out the paperwork I noticed that the area code for my phone number was wrong and she just wrote "oil change". I informed of my correct phone number, which she fixed on the paper and inquired about the tire rotation. She assured that it would be done and the front tires would be put in the rear and vice versa. I also asked for estimate for about how long it would take and she said 30mins and that they would call me. A couple hours went by, I finally walked back. My car had been worked and Jessica was gone. The employee who was now assisting me, asked if I received a call and when I said no he ask if it was Jessica who helped me earlier. He then found my paper and the car had been ready for an unknown about of time. Then he proceed to complain that Jessica doesn't follow up with the customer and he is left to deal with upset customers. I was annoyed, but it was not a big deal as I had planned to have time to get my car serviced and would still make my next appointments. As he rang me up, he mentioned the work done was an oil change and tire rotation. But when I got on the freeway, I noticed the tires had not been rotated. When I got to my destination, I check my tires. The night before I had rubbed the curb, so there was a white mark on it. That made it real easy to tell that it had not been rotated. This is most frustrating. I do not have time during the week to go in a complain as I work on the other side of L.A. And then next weekend is right before xmas. This is pretty messed up. From what I see from the other reviews, I will probably need to call corporate anyways. But now my trust is completely gone. I am not even sure if I got the synthetic oil that I paid for. read more

Pep Boys ordered my tires and i was off and running. I ordered online and made an appt. Remember to call to ensure the tires arrived before heading down to the store. It would be nice if the service dept would call or send out an email/text to confirm the tires/parts arrived before showing up for an appt. I think it's a scam when I get charged a 10% restocking fee for an item I had to return because the associate that helped me when I purchased the items gave me the incorrect items to begin with. When I go to return the items and the manager is basically interrogating me on why I'm returning it and then tells the cashier to make sure i get charged the restocking fee because he didn't like the way I answered him, that speaks for itself on what kind of managers are running this store. So many years of coming to Pep Boys and the few times I've exchanged and returned things, never was I charged a "restocking fee", until now, because the manager didn't like the reason why I was returning the items. I usually like Pep Boys, decent prices on service. I made an appointment for 9 am and my car was in the service area at 11:16. They did apologize and the service manager gave me 10% discount. I do think appointment times should be honored if not customers should at the least be told what the true time their car will be serviced will be and we could make the call to stay or come another day. Went to this pep boys for a Lyft inspection. I was helped immediately by the assistant store manager who had explained to me that he would do the inspection due to a shortage in mechanics that day. He walked me through what he was checking and what Lyft looks for during the inspections. Wasn't a very long process but he was very thorough and I was extremely satisfied with his customer service. Looking for wiper blades for my golf. Bought some and they didn't fit, was not surprised as I had had this happen before. I found this out in the parking lot as I wanted to try and fit them right away. As we were trying to fit them Jesús came out after his shift and offered to help, that's when we found out they didn't fit. He spent a while trying to fit them but then went back into store to help us find a new set. He then went outside to fit them. Such great service especially as he had finished his shift! I received my suburu yesterday and waited until after work to post my updated review. I wanted to drive my vehicle to and from work before making a comment. I'm happy to say my vehicle is running well - so far no problems. Very smooth ride, I'm so relieved. After being disappointed with the initial service, the Pep Boy's Service Manager Mark G. asked that I trust him with my vehicle once again. I was very reluctant to do so, and yet in doing so the SM Mark honored his word by making sure my vehicle was running as before- before handing me over my car keys- He mentioned he test drove the vehicle himself. Mark was very apologetic for the inconvenience I experienced as well as the error that triggered this event. The initial service merit a star because the staff are friendly and yet Mark and the mechanic who problem solved this mistake rectified the problem and I appreciate a job well done. if I had received the secondary service as my initial service I would have scored Pep Boys 5 stars. read more

Simple headlight replacement - tech removed coolant hose and didn't reconnect. Coolant all over engine, emergency warning light 5am on 605 freeway. Very little coolant in reservoir. Thankfully only cost 30.00 to refill and tip repair guy at valvoline. So angry at sloppy workmanship. Asked for reimbursement from pep boys. Would not waste my time and risk car to go back. This place is horrible, from management to service techs. Took my car in for brake service and now my car is making a horrible rattling sound. Service techs are smoking vapes while servicing vehicles. Horrible work ethic! I then took my car to the dealership and found out that parts where missing and that was producing the horrible sound. Had to spend more money!!! Lastly, I go back to pep boys to get zero sympathy from the manager (Joe) who feels like giving me pointers in how I should have approached my situation. This place is horrible and cheated me out of money for services I did not need not once but two times. I decided to give them a second chance after I was given a partial refund on the first incident. One of my cars kept overheating so we took it in. They tested it and said they couldn't find anything. We asked them to check again and we get a call back a while later saying it is the radiator leaking. This should have been a clue to me that something wasn't right because they didn't notice it initially. They said it would be $850 to replace. We just had the radiator replaced a year earlier, but believing they knew best went ahead and did it. Well the car starts overheating again. They tell us to take it back. Again they say they can't find anything and can't duplicate the problem. We asked for a manager because we literally paid for something that was not the issue. So 5 minutes later same guy calls back saying nothing he can do. We said we asked for a manager. He says "well he's at lunch" we say we will be in to discuss with him. We go in and same rude guy says Joe is on lunch. We say it's been an hour. He says "well sometimes he takes 2 1/2 hours!" His rude demeanor was off putting. Needless to say Joe nor any manager from Pep Boys has called us since. We even complained to the main office without resolution. AND we were able to duplicate the problem the very next day simply by driving! It began to overheat again. $850 is a lot of money. We feel ripped off and disappointed. Came in early today to try and get my tires rotated and aligned. The tech said since I did not have an appointment it would take two hours. I said no problem that I would be back. I went to go get something to eat at the Chinese place near by and then a 1hr:30min massage at the massage place next to Chris and Pitts. Two hours later and very relaxed from a great massage I come back to pep boys only to find my car had still not been touched. I walk in and said it would be another 1hr. Needless to say, if you need something done in a timely manner with honest staff this is not the place for you. read more

One of my headlights had stopped working so I stopped by and Alex was able to help me right away. He had told me that I might have to wait about an hour for a mechanic to service my car but once I told him what car I have he said it was probably going to be easy to change the bulb so he decided to try to help me out himself so I wouldn't have to wait. Slowest staff, rude costumer service. Will never come here again!!

Stopped by Pep Boys on Tuesday. Service was questionable. We were forced to wait while he helped people not even in front of us in line but couldn't show us similar courtesy after we came back in from being helped. We were forced to wait behind two extra people. We complained about a noise we were hearing. We explained the noise and when it was happening. Pep Boys came back with a LONG list. It didn't sound right to me but my husband accepted what they said. I decided to leave and take it to a different shop. Final result - only one of the long list of items given by Pep Boys needed to be fixed!! We saved about $1,000!! Pep Boys completely missed the HUGE crack in the radiator which was about one car ride from blowing. So even though we saved $1000, The radiator was a big chunk of what we paid for. The guy at my local shop said Pep Boys was lazy and listed anything they could think of that could possibly cause the issue we were having. So ridiculous. Never coming back here again. Don't let them "find" stuff on your car to fix. Go to someone you can trust. read more

Not a big fan of taking my cars to Pep Boys but my experience the other day was outstanding, so i had to write a review. I went in thinking i needed to replace my starter or purchase a new battery. I had just gotten a jump start from AAA down the street and went in to see if they could test my battery so i can determine if a new one was needed. Not only did they tell me it wasn't my starter that it was my battery, but after looking at my battery they noticed it was still under warranty. So they replaced my battery for free! Now this may not sound like much to you (maybe i should've known that it was still under warranty) but none the less, most repairs shops out there have a bad reputation and usually just look to take advantage of you. They could have told me i needed a new battery and not told me it was under warranty and i probably would have never know. Their service department gets an A+ for customer service one this day... I went ahead and got the tires @ noon they said give it and hour and a half ok fine i told them giving them the benefit of the doubt just make 2 o'clock. By and large mechanics have a pretty dicey reputation. There is a good one on the corner of Norwalk and Whittier but he's pretty expensive. There are a lot of bad ones that I've had to part company with over the years. Several years ago I received a Pep Boys tire coupon in the mail and thought I'd utilize it. I don't remember the details of the deal, but I do remember receiving excellent customer service. My hat's off to the manager Luis for being a straight-forward, honest, and friendly guy. I've now been taking my cars here for several years and neither he nor his staff have ever tried to shake me down with unnecessary repairs, parts, or services. And they stand behind their work. As long as the current team remains in place under the quality management they presently have I'll continue as a satisfied customer. read more

Then the technician Hyung Chun worked on my car, but happily & concerned, explained to me what he was doing prior to starting the work? Then I went inside & again was greeted at the cash register by another smiling employee, Jorge Castillo who made sure I was pleased and I received my 10% military discount. Thomas is helping me out but I don't know if I would really call it helpful. He seems to drop a lot of F bombs in front of customers while preparing the invoice. Maybe he has had a rough day.
