We have been going to Pepe's for many, many years and are never disappointed. We had burritos for lunch and they are huge! The staff is super friendly and attentive and gracious to our requests and questions. Stay away!! This place used to be our go-to for years and years. Not sure what's happened. Maybe new owners? We miss the old Pepes from years and years ago when the food was fresh, inexpensive, delicious, and passionately made. The food now is bland and the prices are way too high. The orders are almost always wrong. They use poor quality ingredients. It's just plain subpar for the great Mexican food you can get in Sonoma County now. Tonight we ordered a burrito and a "Good Deal Combo" with a chile relleno, ground beef taco, and a shredded chicken enchilada. Got home to find the combo was two grilled chicken tacos and a grilled chicken tamal and the guacamole on top was literally brown. Absolutely disgusting. Had to drive all the way back to have them correct the order. Do yourself a favor and just skip this place. It's sadly not worth it anymore. read more

To start, I should say that my mother has a latex allergy, this includes avocados, mangos, bandages and others things. We come here pretty often but the last few times we came, even though I EXPLICITLY stated to put absolutely no guac on my mom's burrito, they put guac anyway! My mom became violently ill and was sick all night. We came back (which in hindsight might not have been good idea) and orders the same thing. We complained about the guac issue, and when we got the burrito, my mom opened her burrito to see a LARGE amount of guac! What I particularly appreciate is that they had excellent customer service- multiple people came and checked on us and when there was a miscommunication about one of the orders, it was fixed promptly. Don't waste your time coming here. We popped in around 11:30am on a Sunday morning. They were busy and we waited a few minutes for a table to be cleaned. Once seated, it took almost 15 minutes before anyone even came up to take our order. Note: we got up to find ourselves a menu. Two other tables seated after us had menus and chips, but had a similarly tough time getting someone to take their order. There's plenty of waitstaff roaming around yet the place was in disarray. When a waitress did show up and we noted we had been waiting for well over 10 minutes, she promptly told us she's got too many tables to manage. When we tried to order, we were then told they were out of menudo. We used to enjoy coming here. Especially when they were on the corner of Sebastopol Avenue and Stony Point Road. But in recent years their level of service, quality, and care have completely diminished. When they first moved to their new location they had a counter-style ordering process for a while, then they switched it to table service which they clearly struggle with. Plenty of other great Mexican places to try on Sebastopol Avenue. We won't be coming back to Pepe's. read more

I used to enjoy eating at Pepe's when they were at their old spot but then when they moved to their new location a few years ago something changed and the food was not as good, so I stopped going. Today I popped in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The food was great, the space immaculate and the service wonderful. Apparently new owners took it over about a year and a half ago, good thing they did. Today I had the chili relleno plate with rice and beans. Everything was hot and tasty and fresh. They have a great salsa bar with delicious salsas. I will definitely be returning to Pepe's. I'm so happy that they are back in the game. read more

3.7 As I sit here in Pepe's, I really went back and forth between 3 star or a 4 star. This was a tough review and a tough choice. Thankfully the one star reviews for this business were primary for the service. For me, there was nothing wrong with the service here. I found them to be very polite. THE CHIPS: If their chips were up to par, I would of scored them a 4 star. I honestly had a hard time distinguishing if their chips were store bought or homemade made? The more and more I snacked on them, the more and more I am leaning twards that they came out of a bag. I kept trying to look for the chip bag but did not see one. The salsa bar has a delicious variety of salsa. Even the avocado salsa. There is a fire kicking Habanero to add a little inferno to your food. Thats if your taste buds like to do a little dance. You are provided 3 salsa cups for the salsa bar. THE FOOD: I found it to be very good. The pastor was marinated deliciously. The Shrimp taco was bursting with HUGE shrimp. There were these grilled peppers and onions that gave a nice tasty touch to the shrimp taco. However, The fish taco was not the best nor out of this world. It was grilled, bland with a bottom dweller taste to it. Most Tilapia is farmed from China. Something to think about? I wouldn't personally order it again. The rice was large, plump and moist to perfect. The chef heated up some mole sauce for me to mix in. The mole sauce gets a 5 star from me because its a GOOOOOOOD ONE !!! Pepe's keeps their place clean! The bathrooms were clean, stocked with soap and smelled rather pleasant. No complaints there. Make sure that they bring the shredded cabbage, radishes and onions or you'll miss out on the real meaning of the broth. I had to ask, twice... My Spanish is as good as my English. Guacamole: Possibly the world's worst. Runny, sleazy, fake creamy. Homogenized to a fault. Gott'a be a mass produced, previously frozen bastard concotion of chemicals/lard/avocado like substances. Tortillas: Hand made right there. Good flavor, BUT, shelf life of 12 minutes before they taste like cardboard. Flan: 3 days old. Gummy. Prices: way too high for the food quality. Went in on a Sunday with hopes of eating some bomb chilaqilles only to be extremely disappointed. Just by looking at them you could tell they were gross. They used chips from a bag instead of frying the tortilla. My date took one bite and said they were dry AF. We didn't eat them asked for the check and left with the plate untouched. Waitress saw the food untouched and didn't bother to ask what was wrong. I just tried this place for the first time the other day! It was super good!!!! I ordered the grilled chicken Chimichanga, the Chile Colorado and a Bean, Cheese and Rice burrito. I LOVED my chimichanga! Crispy and delicious! The Chile Colorado had a lot of fatty pieces that were inedible, I ordered flour tortillas and recieved corn and they forgot to add the accomniaments to the dish (sour cream and guac) so that was disappointing. But the flavor was pretty good! The bean burrito had a lot of cheese, which I love!, but it was not at all melted so I was biting into big mouthful of non melted cheese and semi warm tortilla, so I needed up putting it in a skillet in my kitchen to try and melt it. I was going to give three stars but I had to give 4 because they got a bonus point for their red and green bot sauces. THOSE WERE AMAZING!! I had to order my food to go since this whole pandemic thing but I cannot wait to come back once we are allowed to eat inside and try a few other things on the menu! read more

Our family has been eating at Pepe's for many years, but this was our first visit to the new location. The building is attractive, the interior a bit sterile, but nicely decorated, and the employees are friendly. I really wanted to like the new Pepe's, but was very disappointed. I ordered the carnita super burrito which was the dish I loved the most in the "old Pepe's". This burrito had little in common with the burritos of the past. The pork was a combination of tasting boiled and being so overcooked that it was chewy. There was no salsa or anything spicy inside, only carnitas, refried beans, sour cream, a bland guacamole and iceberg lettuce. It was so bland, in fact, that no amount of the salsa-bar sauce could revive it. My husband's shrimp burrito was similar and he was not impressed either. It was one of the few times that I have seen him leave uneaten food on his plate. Only a few chips were given to us after we ordered at the counter and to get a refill, we needed to ask. The little plastic containers that were at the salsa bar were so inadequate that you could barely squeeze a small piece of tortilla chip into one. Pepe's used to be packed, with a long line of customers waiting to be served. This new Pepe's was empty. So sad. If the very nice owners we used to chat with still own this restaurant I'm sorry for the unfavorable review, but hope it inspires you to restore your offerings to their previous glory. read more

Pretty good salsa bar, music was a little loud, and the place was very busy. We were greeted imeadiatly and had speedy service. I ordered 2 carne asada tacos and an el pastor Taco. The carne asada was pretty good but the el pastor might have been one of the best I have ever had. It had the onions fried in and had a hint of cinnamon in the rich sauce. Throughout the meal we were checked by three servers often to see if everything was good and of we needed anything. Very good experience, I'd eat here all the time if I lived in the area. read more

Santa Rosa literally across the street, I tend to go there, but Pepe's has what is prolly the best flan in town, so when I'm feeling the eggy- carmel craving coming on, this is where I head to. Also, the wicked tomatillo salsa is a staple. Spendier than most of the other taquerias in the hood, I'm not sure it's justified, although less than their other location on 4th street for most items. Aqua frescas are awesome in summer time. Breakfast is good here, they have machacas con huevos, chorizo con huevos and chilaquiles -- but for being 'on the strip' essentially of everything mexican food wise, it doesn't quite stand up to some of the others. read more

My family used to really enjoy this place, but more often than not lately they've seemed to not care, or pay as much attention, to what they're doing. We walked in and ordered 2 regular burritos & 2 veggie taco's last night. We got home to discover that both burritos were not at all what we ordered & they slathered on ALL the ingredients... Sour cream, avocado, you name it, it was on that burrito... So 2 family members had to find something else to eat :( Not sure if it was because the gal had her kid there & was trying to watch her kid while taking our order, but it's been very disappointing... I miss old Pepe's! I loved their small little shack that was always crowded. I feel like they lost a lot of their soul when they moved into the bigger building. Too me it feels like a chain now, even though it is not. Their food has not changed (at least too much) Prices have raised to the point where I can not frequent their often. They do have some of the best carnitas I've ever had those. Greasy, and crunchy and oh so yummy. Their quesadillas are so good, and HUGE.
