We need a light lunch and want to visit cafe 86 so we give this place a try as it is in the same plaza. It is semi self service. We order at the kiosk and find a spot to sit. They bring out utensils and food when it is ready. The place is pretty small so it feel tight. For the price, it was little meat. Better off to order the large as they give you more meat instead. The flavor in my opinion is lack of salt. The sauce to pour on is more sweet than salt. We also order the kid chicken tender bowl. The chicken was so cold, we end up trying to cook it on hot place. The fries was good but definitely not the chicken. I wouldn't order that again.
Every-time I go to this shopping center there's always parking. There's so many good spots to pick from but Pepper lunch never misses. Parking 5/5 My go to dish is Two meat sizzling curry with Beef and Hamburg. Brings me back to Japan! Omg it was good. Also really filling 5/5 The customer service was great and there was plenty of seats as well. Very friendly staff and very helpful. Great lighting and there was also extra sauces at the table. The restaurant is really clean as well! 5/5
Pepper Lunch!!! The beef pepper lunch is my go to! I ordered it on the app and it was ready within 15-20 minutes. Parking was pretty easy but can be challenging during rush hour eating times. The quality of food is always good! It not too greasy but perfectly seasoned. Thank you for a perfect and delicious meal (:
Ordering is easy, as you place your order through the kiosk and sit wherever you like. The server was quick to provide us with our water cups once we sat down. I got the regular beef. The food came out fast. Food was fine. It was simple. It just had rice, corn, beef, and pepper. I added some garlic sauce for additional flavor. We went on a Sunday night and it wasn't busy. The restaurant was clean.
Upon arriving you immediately face bunches of menu and kiosk to helping you place your order. There's very little staff so it seems very self service driven, which is fine. We came dinner time around 5-6 pm and there was a good number of crowd that were there. After ordering we found ourselves a table immediately My friend got the beef pepper rice and I got the limited edition k-pep Korean chicken karaage. Ambiance is pretty chill I did hear some music but it wasn't super loud Beef Pepper Rice - 5/5 I tried a bite and it was packed with flavor. Beef was nicely sliced thin and just easy to chew and swallow. However I wouldn't say melting in the mouth is the best description. K-Peo Korean Chicken karaage - 3/5 the chicken was not cooked the karaage style in familiarity and the actual inside was fairly dry. The rice and corn was fine and met expectation but with the hero supposedly the chicken, I was a bit disappointed. The sauce was fine but I would warn for those that are sensitive to spicy food. This will burn and last for awhile. Either get a sweet drink or ignore this.
So simple yet so quick and convenient! I was craving for some beef pepper rice from Pepper Lunch, and my cravings were indeed satisfied. Also got the sweet potato fries and the jumbo beef pepper rice, which were all tasty! Service is friendly and wonderful-- servers offered to answer any questions and provided utensils/brought out our dishes in a timely manner. The only downside, for me, is that it is pretty pricey for the amount of meat you're given. The jumbo beef pepper rice is supposed to have more meat, yet I can barely tell the difference from the regular vs. the jumbo. Price point as of April 2026 for the jumbo beef pepper rice is around $19-$20.
I had heard of but never had this place till last week, it's been something I've wanted to try for a while after some friends were raving about it and it did not disappoint. I love these kinds of restaurants and they remind me of LA county's Taiwanese steakhouses or something, but this is a Japanese restaurant! I love the customizability of everything and how we are able to make it as we want. I was a little confused though at some options being available for certain meals but not others but there's a lot of different combinations, so I just made my own via the add ons and the "2 item" plate for curry. In the future I may try something different but it all looked great so that is why I wanted to go for something that was a bit different from my friends who had gotten their usuals (normal beef, and beef pasta aglio olio) which were ALSO delicious. Add ons range from salmon to corn to parm to mozzarella and so on! They offer some great sauces to put on your meal as it cooks on the sizzling platter. Delicious and simple and pretty affordable. Soon we will have the Pepper Lunch day or something and that will have the two for one special so that could be awesome to go back for! When you walk in, you order at the kiosk and then find a seat once you are done and take a little number pad to keep at your table. There's some pretty nice signage around the eatery as well, very cute, saying things like "SIZZLE IT YOUR WAY". When the food is ready, you'll then be served and you mix around the food on the platter and eat. Portions are pretty large as well, I think I actually got a bit too much food so next time I may try something smaller with a side... perhaps of karaage.
I was really disappointed with my visit to Pepper Lunch Artesia. I ordered the Jumbo Beef Pepper Rice and a Salmon Pepper Rice. When the server first brought out the dishes, we received a Beef Rice and a Salmon & Beef Rice. No big deal. We informed them, and they returned with a Beef Rice and a Salmon-only Rice. However, this is where things went downhill. It felt like they just removed the beef from the salmon & beef plate and added it to the other beef plate. The result was a half empty salmon plate and a "jumbo" beef plate that had only a few extra pieces of beef. I've seen the Jumbo Beef at their Irvine location, and what I got here did not resemble that at all. Super underwhelming and far below expectations. When I asked the server about it, their response was nonchalant, confirming it was indeed the "jumbo" without as much as a glance at what was at our table. On top of that, the food itself at the Artesia location seemed lacking in flavour. The dishes were greasy and bland; I had to drench everything in garlic sauce just to get any taste. Overall, this visit left me disappointed, and I hope the Artesia branch works on consistency and flavour to match other locations.
Really good experience here. I enjoyed how easy it was to order on their large iPads, and the food came out relatively quick. The food comes out hot and is seasoned decently well. I'd say the only thing I wish is that the portions were bigger. Also, the layout of the inside is kind of weird, and I also wish they changed it to be a bit more organized, particularly with the tables and their placement. But overall decent place with good food.
tldr; a pretty bad review Ok, I love Pepper Lunch, and I frequent this place at LEAST quarterly. BUT, service on Sunday 4/26/26 around 1:45PM was not it. There was a female employee, a little on the shorter side with dyed blonde hair, bold winged eyeliner, and tats who just really came off as rude. My friends and I came in for a post-church lunch and were a party of 10. However, we all came straggling in, so in bits and pieces. This employee gave us attitude and rolled her eyes when she noticed us saving seats for our friends yet to come. There isn't a policy posted against it, so I don't understand why she reacted that way. After, another employee offered us the large table near the entrance, but they just needed to clean it (a party was there when we had first entered). I and my friends present at the time decided to put our orders in at the kiosk while we waited. So we wait patiently and then headed over. As we were trying to figure out our seating arrangement, the original female employee (who had rolled her eyes) brought out two plates and was holding them. We were trying to figure out who ordered what when she just blurted out "I'm just gonna put these down" in a really sarcastic and annoyed tone and then just walked away. Literally she might as well have told us "your problem, not mine." I understand the hot plates were heavy, and I'm not disagreeing that she should've put them down. BUT, she could have kindly asked to set them down or been more helpful but letting us know which number the plates corresponded to, but she didn't even do that. Literally just set them down and dipped. I definitely felt really angry because she cannot talk to my friends like that. Terrible customer service skills. Will I come back here? Probably because I love the food (portions are getting smaller though). But if I get this girl again, I WILL bring saying something next time to her and management because this is unacceptable. I hope management can address this issue so there isn't a next time for this type of service, whether it's me or someone else.
I'm going straight to the food. DELICIOUS! It must be the pepper mixed in the rice or steaks. I ordered the ribeye and salmon hot skillet sizzling plate. I wish the steak and salmon portion was much bigger but it was enough. The peppery and flavored butter on my steak and salmon was pure perfection with my bowl of rice. Still thinking about it and wish they would put one here in santa monica,ca. It would be a great location on sawtelle blvd.. japantown.. hint hint. The service was friendly and patient. Although it was busy we were never rushed. The grade A restaurant was clean. Wish they had more bathrooms though. A little line for the girls 1 restroom. But all in all .. wish I can go back.. like.. now.
I lived in Japan for four years, so I'm very familiar with Pepper Lunch. This LA version delivers great flavor and stays mostly true to the concept. The taste is solid, though I felt they went a bit heavy on the butter compared to Japan. Portions are generous and filling when dining in. I also ordered the same beef and salmon dish to go. While the flavor was consistent, the portion was noticeably smaller than the dine-in order. One downside was cleanliness--the place felt a bit dirty during my visit, which seemed likely due to being understaffed rather than neglect. Overall, good food and satisfying, but consistency and cleanliness could use improvement.
The original DIY teppanyaki! There's something so good about a sizzling plate meal. It comes out piping hot and so delicious. My go-to is always their classic Beef Pepper Rice. It comes with corn, garlic butter, garlic sauce, and white rice. I recently started adding mushrooms, and it makes the dish even better! I like getting the Jumbo version because you get twice as much meat than the regular Beef Pepper Rice. While I almost always get the Beef Pepper Rice, we decided to try a few new things this trip. First was the Double Hamburg Sizzling Curry Rice. It comes with two servings of Hamburg Steak, curry sauce, rice, corn, and onions. The Hamburg Steak was pretty tender, and I enjoyed having it with the tasty curry sauce. We also got the Shrimp Aglio Olio Pasta which is a newer dish on the menu. It comes topped with their signature pepper paste and an herb and olive oil mixture. Lastly, we got a Combo Meal with Salmon and Ribeye. It comes with a ribeye steak, salmon steak, a side of veggies, and white rice. The steak was a bit tough, but the salmon was really good! I didn't mind the green beans, carrots, and corn on the sizzling plate, but they also put leafy greens which weren't as good heated. I might prefer having it on the side as a salad instead. I'll probably skip this dish next time, but definitely get the pepper rice or one of their curry dishes! Service is very friendly!
Me and my wife love pepper lunch! Their service is super fast, so it's a great quick place to eat. We come here a lot for their rice pepper lunches which are really good with the sauces they provide. The space is nice too, but the parking can sometimes be hard read more

Tried this place for the first time and it was fantastic! The restaurant was clean and staff were friendly and attentive. Food Beef was sliced thin and not fatty. Plate came out sizzling to perfection. I am knocking one star because the protein given is a smaller overall amount than I expected. French fries were crispy and not soggy! Price I'm not complaining about food cost because of inflation. It's hard to determine if the cost is actually astronomical or if it's just a sign of the times. It didn't strike me as expensive compared to what other reviewers were stating. read more

I really enjoy coming here. It gets the job done in a good way. Flavors are perfect. My go to order is the jumbo beef classic, my add on's are kimchi! garlic chips, mushrooms, & onions. It's a lil pricey for the amount of meat it comes with but you do get full from the add on and rice :) the place is always kept clean. Restroom smell so good and is also kept cleaned. There's really not much service from the workers cause we basically order what we want. We would tip of course if they came by and ask if everything is going well & if there's anything they can help with but they don't. There's usually never a wait when we come so yay for us ! read more

My cousin and I came here twice so far. The first time was delicious and we enjoyed everything and were already talking about the next time to come back. I had the Beef with Kimche rice I think it was called. Was tasty. They serve the dishes sizzling hot in this bowl and the dish finishes cooking as you mix it up. I loved that. My cousin had the Beef double beef special and she tore it up. The next time we came I ordered the double beef she had last time and she had the seafood and beef land and sea bowl. Her's was good but my bowl wasn't hot enough so my meat never cooked well. So I asked if they could cook it more, so they took it back and a few minutes later returned with it but it still wasn't cooked or sizzling hot. I ate what I could and left it at that. Will leave this one alone for a while. Moving on to the next restaurant. There are a lot of alternate places to dine in Cerritos. read more

I came alone on a Tuesday at noon, an hour after they open. The restaurant is a tiny with about 20 tables, 75% of them empty. The restaurant's vibe is more modern with an industrial, slick black ceiling with Kpop playing in the background. The entrance featured iPads where you could order on your own but they weren't working. Instead they had you order at the cashier instead. When I walked in, I was greeted by a line coming from the cashier. There were three workers working behind the counter with no one manning the cash register. I waited about 15 minutes before someone came to the cash register. I then waited for another 10 minutes to get to the front of the line. I ordered my food and sat down at one of the bar counter seats against the wall. I sat there for another 30 minutes before my food finally came out. It took me a total of 55 minutes to order and receive my food. I'm not going to lie--I was upset by the time I finally was able to eat. I ordered the Classic Beef Pepper Rice and it came with a dome of white rice with a pad of butter on top, a scoop of corn, and a few small pieces of beef along the sides of the steaming, sizzling hot plate. The portion was pretty small for $11.50. I mixed up my rice and let the beef cook before eating. The flavor was beefy and had a strong black pepper taste. It was extremely savory, oily, and delicious. The restaurant does provide extra pepper and various sauces if you want to make your dish more flavorful. I opted to not add anything because the dish was already salty. I finished my food in less than 15 minutes and left. Overall the food was delicious, albeit a very small portion. If you want to be full when you leave, I would recommend biting the bullet and paying for the double portion because the single portion wasn't enough. The service was just not that good. I'm sure they had an explanation for making me wait almost 30 minutes to place my order. But it just wasn't the best first impression. I wouldn't really recommend this location. read more
I keep passing by this over the past couple of years and have been meaning to try it... finally got to on Labor Day! I ordered the beef pepper lunch and it didn't disappoint! I thought the jumbo beef was too much so I got the regular beef pepper lunch.... I then regretted not getting the jumbo hahaha. Just needed a smidge more meat. The dish consisted of thin beef slices circling a mound of rice secretly stuffed with some sort of butter under the corn. It's really good when mixed altogether! read more

I've been here a number of times with friends for teppenyaki and have always felt filled and happy ^ ^. My pescetarian roommate likes the food, and I recommend this place to my friends all the time. I sometimes wish that there was more meat but it's not usually a dealbreaker for me. I leave feeling like my money was well-spent. Service is usually pretty quick to the point and I've never noticed anything that would make me badmouth them, and the ambiance is what you'd expect from a place where you order at the counter and they bring the food to your table number (pretty fast food adjacent) read more

Beef pepper if always my go to! I love the flavors and like adding the chili powder and some extra sauce too. It is a good portion but wish it was a little bigger. The meat pieces are pretty small but I still come back here because it's good. read more
It's darn good. I would definitely try it again as the taste for price ratio is very solid. Personally, I would go for the meat options rather than the eel as I think they do a better job taste wise with the meat. Also make sure to use they sauces they offer, makes a world of a difference. The staff was very nice, and they offer a free side if you check in on Yelp. Get the sweet potato fries. Those fries, by far, are the best part of the place. I don't know how they did it, but they perfected that crisp outside, fluffy inside fry. It's very yummy. Definitely would go again. read more

Pepper lunch is one of my favorite places to eat at but I prefer eating a kbbq spot for the prices they offer. I recommend adding the cheese if your stomach can handle it and I say skip the salad and the curry is okay. Regardless the sizzling skillet, meat, and rice will taste so good! If you're sensitive to pepper I'd tell them go easy on the pepper. read more

FYI:This restaurant chain is the worst Japanese sizzling Pepper steak.Let me break this down folks. PROS: There is NONE CONS:Expensive and overpriced -Rib eye steak i dont think so.Ive been to many steakhouses all over LA and orange county. -Corn,green beans,carrots seems like it came from a can. -The PORTIONS sucks.There's more rice than meat.Typical stingy Japanese restaurants. -They charge you for everything that you wana add on.Curry sauce and onions extra charge. -Take out orders goodluck on that.The PORTIONS got worse.Its like prison food. -Hamburger steak is a joke. -Human Hair on my food If you wana waste your hard earned money for a low quality type of food with a crappy portions this place is for you.Theres plenty of Taiwanese sizzling steakhouses around the area that serve a better quality and decent portions.Here is my to go places...Formosan,RedFlame,Cowboy Cafe,Chiou House.Taiwanese Teppan sizzling steak is way better. read more

This is a hybrid type of restaurant/ takeout/DIY teppanyaki spot. I did not have high expectations because the setup was really much like takeout: you place your order and pay for it first, then wait at a table for the dishes. However I was pleased to find that each lunch plate is served on a hot stone/ metal plate. My daughter got a Jumbo Pepper lunch ( more sliced beef) and I got the Eel lunch. Both came with buttered rice, topped with corn and pepper, probably more butter on the bottom! The eel was arranged around the rice in egg and the butter continued to sizzle on the plate. I mixed up everything and the dish stayed hot the entire time. There was a sweet Sauce-like teriyaki- and garlic sauce on the table with a sign that said : please taste food before adding sauce. I only used the garlic sauce, but just a little at a time. Otherwise it tends to be over salty if you use a lot of it. The beef plate was similarly vey tasty, and garlic sauce was also better than the sweet. The jumbo comes with more meat, all of it thinly sliced so it cooks through while on the plate. A Yelp check in would have gotten a free add on. The place was pretty busy since it was Sunday lunch hour. The bathroom was also clean. The thing I would like improved is the efficiency of bussing and table cleaning. The seats at our table were quite greasy - as if a child had dropped food all over. So clean up should include the chair and banquette. read more

Tablets required for orders. Ordering tablets will display items that are not available and still charge you. Card readers are broken, and credit card numbers must be manually entered. Expect to pay $20.65 for a beef Pepper Rice with egg and onions, a "bubbly blackberry drink" and a "seaweed shake salad" There was no seaweed in the shake salad. The bubbly blackberry drink was non-existent, yet I was still able to order it and get charged for it. I let the staff know I was able to order items that were not available and they seemed ambivalent about it. Food itself was good-- just be vigilant about asking if what you ordered is available. I didn't recommend take out here-- make sure you get table service. read more
Pepper Lunch is simple yet tasty. We were greeted warmly by the cashier and the restaurant was very clean. They consider themselves "the original Japanese DIY teppan" and I love how hot and crispy the rice gets in the stone pot. While they have plenty of options I went with the Classic Beef Pepper Rice. A heap of rice topped with corn is surrounded by thin slices of beef. The beef cooks pretty quickly on the hot stone although it is originally presented raw, so make sure to mix it up as soon as you get it so that it doesn't burn. If you're hungry I would go with the jumbo portion as the classic doesn't have much meat in it. They also offer sizzling curries, steaks and teppan pasta. We used the Yelp check-in for a free side, regular or premium, and selected the onion rings which also hit the spot. This is a fun, affordable choice for a casual meal. read more

It's a personal teppanyaki except you mix up your pre - prepared hot plate yourself while making your own choo choo train sounds LOL. I like their ordering system where you pay first at the touch screens then you wait to be seated. Lately there's been a rush during lunch and dinner so go during off peak times if you don't want to wait. I've had their beef plates before and I never once not liked it. But I will still get the veggies combo. Their sauces are delicious. It's pretty pricey for what you order but having a meal on a hot plate to keep your food extra fresh is always nice. The place is pretty new so the restaurant looks well kept. Parking is plenty in the lot however there are also other business around so it can be a little packed. read more

This place was just meh to me because although the food was tasty enough... there just wasn't enough of it for their price point. I really don't like the new trend where we order on an iPad in the front then go sit down. There was a huge crowd at the front because people are ordering without being given any guidance at all. Why not have an employee nearby to answer questions,eh?!! So then we take our number and go find a seat. No idea how we're supposed to get the drinks we ordered. They brought out my meal about 5-7 minutes before my bf got his dish. So... mine got cold while waiting. I don't get it. The order was all put in at the same time. Why not make the food and serve it at the same time too?? Overall, the amount and quality of the food did not justify the prices or the lack of service. Welcome to the neighborhood. We'll never step foot in here again. read more
PARKING: Located in a plaza with several other food locations so parking can get a little packed. But the parking lot is pretty big so you should be able to find a spot even if it's a little further. PROCESS: This is a quick-casual place where you order at the tablets if you're paying with credit card or straight to the cashier if you're paying cash. After ordering you take your number and sit at an open table. We came when this place just opened, so they were probably still working out the kinks. We ordered at the front where the tablets were and a hostess then sat us at an available table. The hostess didn't allow guests to order if there were no available tables to sit at. WAIT: The wait wasn't too bad. We came for an evening week and dinner and the wait was about 30 minutes. FOOD: Lots of food options. We chose the classic beef plate because it was our first time and we decided to order what was the most popular. I prefer the sweet sauce over the garlic sauce but you can customize the taste to your liking! read more
It's Tuesday night, we are near the traffic circle & where do we eat? A quick yelp search reveals that a brand new PEPPER LUNCH is now open in Artesia. Well that was easy! My week has been made! No longer will we have to make the long-ish trek from Long Beach to Irvine. Goodbye! I am so stoked on this location, they couldn't have chosen better! What makes it great is that also a brand new JolliBee (with a drive thru) is in the same shopping center plus a lot of other great places. Oh yeah! The first Pepper Lunch location I have tried is in Irvine & that location is small & there is always a line usually going out the door. I have also tried a Pepper Lunch in Hong Kong, & no matter the location, the food is so good!! What I liked the most about this location is the self serve kiosks! It really eliminates the wait! I feel like the food came out super fast. NICE! I like the interior more than the Irvine location because of the tables & the self serve kiosks. I love this place so much & I'm about to be the duchess of this joint & the check in queen. read more

First time here. Wanted dinner and never checked this place out. Nice spot in the plaza where Jollibee is located. I was excited for the sizzling plates. Told my kids this will be fun. (I totally forgot to tell the kids that their dishes came with vegetables, haha.) They were excited coz I said *your food comes out sizzling* lol. So we ordered chicken teriyaki, classic pepper beef, and classic pepper beef & chicken. My order came out wrong, and it came with curry sauce. But I took it anyway. It wasn't bad at all. My daughters chicken teriyaki was lacking on the meat. We looked at it like *that's it?*. Plus she had lots of veg so she took it out and put on my plate. My son got classic pepper beef. It didn't look like what's in the picture. The meat was small. Wasn't full. The ratio of meat to rice was lacking, big time. Kinda disappointing say the least. After we left, we grabbeR2d more food elsewhere coz the kids were still hungry. read more

Sizzle sizzle...what's that sound? It's your food cooking on a hot plate. I ordered the hamburger sizzling curry and sat down after paying using the self checkout machine. After 10 minutes or so, the food finally arrived! The order comes with some rice, corn, meat, and onions. The curry sauce comes separately and as I poured it onto the plate, the sizzling began and the smell of curry wafted through the air! I like how you can control how much curry sauce you want to add. If you want your rice to be a little scorched and crunchy you can also press and flatten it out on your sizzling plate. There are also Honey Brown Sauce and Garlic Soy Sauce provided on the table. The garlic soy went really well with the peppery meat and rice. I thought the concept of hot plates and taste were pretty good, but the portions are on the smaller side. $65 for 3 dishes, don't know if it was worth the cost but the rice dishes were ok. I would stay away from the Half N Half meat plates. Chewy meat and way to expensive. Best bet is to go to a real Steak house if you want a steak. Servers were nice and friendly but did not explain the dishes. As a first timer my son and I had no clue what this place was. read more
PROS: - Food is delivered and on your table REALLY QUICK. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad. - Lots of food options. - The trio plate I ordered was just alright. CONS: - Portions are lacking. I ordered the trio plate and was still not satisfied, especially for the price you pay. - Soft drink machine was leaking all kinds of fluids. - Seating is slightly cramped inside and hard to get around. - Potential long lines. - Not sure if I like the idea of ordering from a germ infested IPad screen. - Parking in this plaza can be a PITA. FINAL THOUGHT: Honestly, I have no inkling to come back. If someone wanted to eat here again, I wouldn't say no though. read more

You really have to think fast about what to order if you've never been here before. The meat portion was so small that it barely covered the sizzling plate. You need to order 2x extra I think. We also ordered fries which didn't come, so my husband told the waitress. I'm not sure if she alerted the front counter or not... so after watching everyone else's fries fly out of the kitchen we alerted the front counter ourselves... so it came out when we were done with our meal. I got the double Hamburg with curry & it was pretty well made! The plate was sizzling and came with a ton of rice. The Hamburg itself felt a little warmed up, but still decent quality. I wanted to see what the hype was about. Luckily it was pretty empty when I went. I ordered the beef with rice. No pepper. To me it was oily and very salty. Also had their onion rings. And tried another curry plate. And overall seemed salty to me. My meat was very small compared to the portion I had. So I kind of cut up the meat pieces to make more bites of meat with my rice. Honestly, this is my opinion. Maybe I just didn't get a good portion/plate. But don't see myself wanting to come back anytime soon. read more

Togo orders should come with sauces and utensils right? Love this place and the food but this is the second time I didn't get sauces and utensils. I should've checked myself but I have a short lunch

I was told by Pepper Lunch it is on Sat Nov 23 at 11:00pm! There will be a raffle and free giveaways!
