Pepper Lunch!!! The beef pepper lunch is my go to! I ordered it on the app and it was ready within 15-20 minutes. Parking was pretty easy but can be challenging during rush hour eating times. The quality of food is always good! It not too greasy but perfectly seasoned. Thank you for a perfect and delicious meal (:
Ordering is easy, as you place your order through the kiosk and sit wherever you like. The server was quick to provide us with our water cups once we sat down. I got the regular beef. The food came out fast. Food was fine. It was simple. It just had rice, corn, beef, and pepper. I added some garlic sauce for additional flavor. We went on a Sunday night and it wasn't busy. The restaurant was clean.
Upon arriving you immediately face bunches of menu and kiosk to helping you place your order. There's very little staff so it seems very self service driven, which is fine. We came dinner time around 5-6 pm and there was a good number of crowd that were there. After ordering we found ourselves a table immediately My friend got the beef pepper rice and I got the limited edition k-pep Korean chicken karaage. Ambiance is pretty chill I did hear some music but it wasn't super loud Beef Pepper Rice - 5/5 I tried a bite and it was packed with flavor. Beef was nicely sliced thin and just easy to chew and swallow. However I wouldn't say melting in the mouth is the best description. K-Peo Korean Chicken karaage - 3/5 the chicken was not cooked the karaage style in familiarity and the actual inside was fairly dry. The rice and corn was fine and met expectation but with the hero supposedly the chicken, I was a bit disappointed. The sauce was fine but I would warn for those that are sensitive to spicy food. This will burn and last for awhile. Either get a sweet drink or ignore this.
So simple yet so quick and convenient! I was craving for some beef pepper rice from Pepper Lunch, and my cravings were indeed satisfied. Also got the sweet potato fries and the jumbo beef pepper rice, which were all tasty! Service is friendly and wonderful-- servers offered to answer any questions and provided utensils/brought out our dishes in a timely manner. The only downside, for me, is that it is pretty pricey for the amount of meat you're given. The jumbo beef pepper rice is supposed to have more meat, yet I can barely tell the difference from the regular vs. the jumbo. Price point as of April 2026 for the jumbo beef pepper rice is around $19-$20.
I had heard of but never had this place till last week, it's been something I've wanted to try for a while after some friends were raving about it and it did not disappoint. I love these kinds of restaurants and they remind me of LA county's Taiwanese steakhouses or something, but this is a Japanese restaurant! I love the customizability of everything and how we are able to make it as we want. I was a little confused though at some options being available for certain meals but not others but there's a lot of different combinations, so I just made my own via the add ons and the "2 item" plate for curry. In the future I may try something different but it all looked great so that is why I wanted to go for something that was a bit different from my friends who had gotten their usuals (normal beef, and beef pasta aglio olio) which were ALSO delicious. Add ons range from salmon to corn to parm to mozzarella and so on! They offer some great sauces to put on your meal as it cooks on the sizzling platter. Delicious and simple and pretty affordable. Soon we will have the Pepper Lunch day or something and that will have the two for one special so that could be awesome to go back for! When you walk in, you order at the kiosk and then find a seat once you are done and take a little number pad to keep at your table. There's some pretty nice signage around the eatery as well, very cute, saying things like "SIZZLE IT YOUR WAY". When the food is ready, you'll then be served and you mix around the food on the platter and eat. Portions are pretty large as well, I think I actually got a bit too much food so next time I may try something smaller with a side... perhaps of karaage.
I was really disappointed with my visit to Pepper Lunch Artesia. I ordered the Jumbo Beef Pepper Rice and a Salmon Pepper Rice. When the server first brought out the dishes, we received a Beef Rice and a Salmon & Beef Rice. No big deal. We informed them, and they returned with a Beef Rice and a Salmon-only Rice. However, this is where things went downhill. It felt like they just removed the beef from the salmon & beef plate and added it to the other beef plate. The result was a half empty salmon plate and a "jumbo" beef plate that had only a few extra pieces of beef. I've seen the Jumbo Beef at their Irvine location, and what I got here did not resemble that at all. Super underwhelming and far below expectations. When I asked the server about it, their response was nonchalant, confirming it was indeed the "jumbo" without as much as a glance at what was at our table. On top of that, the food itself at the Artesia location seemed lacking in flavour. The dishes were greasy and bland; I had to drench everything in garlic sauce just to get any taste. Overall, this visit left me disappointed, and I hope the Artesia branch works on consistency and flavour to match other locations.
Really good experience here. I enjoyed how easy it was to order on their large iPads, and the food came out relatively quick. The food comes out hot and is seasoned decently well. I'd say the only thing I wish is that the portions were bigger. Also, the layout of the inside is kind of weird, and I also wish they changed it to be a bit more organized, particularly with the tables and their placement. But overall decent place with good food.
I go here all the time. The rice and meat options are all so delicious and savory. I usually get their rice with beef and I add a side of their curry. Their curry enhances the flavor and makes it so much more worthwhile. Service was great every time I went. The restaurant's atmosphere was also very pleasing and has a simplistic theme.
tldr; a pretty bad review Ok, I love Pepper Lunch, and I frequent this place at LEAST quarterly. BUT, service on Sunday 4/26/26 around 1:45PM was not it. There was a female employee, a little on the shorter side with dyed blonde hair, bold winged eyeliner, and tats who just really came off as rude. My friends and I came in for a post-church lunch and were a party of 10. However, we all came straggling in, so in bits and pieces. This employee gave us attitude and rolled her eyes when she noticed us saving seats for our friends yet to come. There isn't a policy posted against it, so I don't understand why she reacted that way. After, another employee offered us the large table near the entrance, but they just needed to clean it (a party was there when we had first entered). I and my friends present at the time decided to put our orders in at the kiosk while we waited. So we wait patiently and then headed over. As we were trying to figure out our seating arrangement, the original female employee (who had rolled her eyes) brought out two plates and was holding them. We were trying to figure out who ordered what when she just blurted out "I'm just gonna put these down" in a really sarcastic and annoyed tone and then just walked away. Literally she might as well have told us "your problem, not mine." I understand the hot plates were heavy, and I'm not disagreeing that she should've put them down. BUT, she could have kindly asked to set them down or been more helpful but letting us know which number the plates corresponded to, but she didn't even do that. Literally just set them down and dipped. I definitely felt really angry because she cannot talk to my friends like that. Terrible customer service skills. Will I come back here? Probably because I love the food (portions are getting smaller though). But if I get this girl again, I WILL bring saying something next time to her and management because this is unacceptable. I hope management can address this issue so there isn't a next time for this type of service, whether it's me or someone else.
I'm going straight to the food. DELICIOUS! It must be the pepper mixed in the rice or steaks. I ordered the ribeye and salmon hot skillet sizzling plate. I wish the steak and salmon portion was much bigger but it was enough. The peppery and flavored butter on my steak and salmon was pure perfection with my bowl of rice. Still thinking about it and wish they would put one here in santa monica,ca. It would be a great location on sawtelle blvd.. japantown.. hint hint. The service was friendly and patient. Although it was busy we were never rushed. The grade A restaurant was clean. Wish they had more bathrooms though. A little line for the girls 1 restroom. But all in all .. wish I can go back.. like.. now.
The original DIY teppanyaki! There's something so good about a sizzling plate meal. It comes out piping hot and so delicious. My go-to is always their classic Beef Pepper Rice. It comes with corn, garlic butter, garlic sauce, and white rice. I recently started adding mushrooms, and it makes the dish even better! I like getting the Jumbo version because you get twice as much meat than the regular Beef Pepper Rice. While I almost always get the Beef Pepper Rice, we decided to try a few new things this trip. First was the Double Hamburg Sizzling Curry Rice. It comes with two servings of Hamburg Steak, curry sauce, rice, corn, and onions. The Hamburg Steak was pretty tender, and I enjoyed having it with the tasty curry sauce. We also got the Shrimp Aglio Olio Pasta which is a newer dish on the menu. It comes topped with their signature pepper paste and an herb and olive oil mixture. Lastly, we got a Combo Meal with Salmon and Ribeye. It comes with a ribeye steak, salmon steak, a side of veggies, and white rice. The steak was a bit tough, but the salmon was really good! I didn't mind the green beans, carrots, and corn on the sizzling plate, but they also put leafy greens which weren't as good heated. I might prefer having it on the side as a salad instead. I'll probably skip this dish next time, but definitely get the pepper rice or one of their curry dishes! Service is very friendly!
I lived in Japan for four years, so I'm very familiar with Pepper Lunch. This LA version delivers great flavor and stays mostly true to the concept. The taste is solid, though I felt they went a bit heavy on the butter compared to Japan. Portions are generous and filling when dining in. I also ordered the same beef and salmon dish to go. While the flavor was consistent, the portion was noticeably smaller than the dine-in order. One downside was cleanliness--the place felt a bit dirty during my visit, which seemed likely due to being understaffed rather than neglect. Overall, good food and satisfying, but consistency and cleanliness could use improvement.

I met a friend here for lunch. I had seen this restaurant in Japan but never ate there so was interested in trying one of their U.S. locations. Once inside you grab a number and use the QR code on it to order and pay at one of the kiosks in the entryway. Take a seat at a table and your food is brought to you. I ordered the Chicken Karaage Sizzling Curry. My lunch was delivered in a piping hot pan. A pile of rice with corn kernels on top along with bite-sized pieces of chicken atop thinly sliced onions sizzled in front of me. They put a paper border around the dish to help prevent it splattering on you. I removed mine once things cooled a bit. A gravy boat of curry accompanied my meal. I poured the curry over the dish and stirred, mixing it all up. Delicious! Oishi! The chicken was tender with a slightly crisp exterior and the flavor of the curry was perfect, just as you'd have in Japan. I loved my lunch although next time I'm going to get an extra order of that delicious curry sauce. read more
This is my second time visiting Pepper Linch. The first time was a wow!!! The meat was flavorful and the bottom of the rice was crispy. Because our first awesome experience, my husband and I decided to eat there again. I am sorry to say, the second time was a bit disappointing. The meat wasn't as flavorful and the bottom of the rice wasn't crispy. I sent mine back to put it on the stove for a bit longer because it wasn't as sizzling as the first time I visited. The fat in the meat was still not cooked. The first time, the fat was good with the sizzling hot plate and added some flavor but not this time. Even after I sent it back, the food came out quite quickly. I don't think the plate was even hot. I am usually the picky one but my husband also noticed the flavorless meat. I was able to eat my meal without using any sauces at my first visit but the second time, I had to use a lot of the sauces. The front of the house services were great. When I send the plate back, the person was very friendly and helpful. I just wish the kitchen staff would actually cook it longer. I hope my next visit will be like my first visit. read more
Ridiculous small portion of beef for kimchi beef stone. Angus steak was okay. Some pieces were fatty and chewy but some were tender Both dishes were mostly cheap shot with corn Sweet potato sides were delicious but wish they had Chipotle or some good sauce to go with. After going through some reviews that are consistent with small portion sizes, you would think they would make an adjustment by now. This place was recommended to me by a friend and I was really excited to try it. I ordered the beef pepper rice regular size and was very disappointed with the portion size that came out. It was a heaping scoop of rice with half a scoop of small shredded pieces of beef. When I brought it to their attention, they went to speak to the cooks and then informed me that they "weigh the amount of meat per portion size to ensure consistency." Like what?? So I said not a problem, can I get just a little more beef? And they charged me $5 extra, which I don't mind paying but I just thought that was a silly response read more
I've heard about Pepper Lunch from friends and have been wanting to try it for such a long time! I finally decided to try Pepper Lunch with friends for dinner. I expected it to be super crowded, but thankfully when we arrived on a weekday at 6:00pm, there was no line and several tables still open. More people came in after us though, so we came at the perfect time. While looking at the menu, I saw a big "New Menu" screen that displayed Kimchi Beef Yaki Udon, which is EXACTLY what I wanted, so I immediately knew I needed to order that. My friends and I placed the order, got some water, and sat at the table to wait. Once our food arrived, I was so excited. It was hot and sizzling and smelled so delicious. I mixed it around to make sure everything was cooking and the flavors are blended well. When I took the first bite, I was thrilled because it was so flavorful and delicious! It had a lot more flavor than I was expecting, and I loved the pepper taste! I usually get full pretty quickly, but this was SO good that I ate the entire thing. I cannot believe I hadn't tried Pepper Lunch sooner, but now that I have, I'm sure I'll become a regular. The food was amazing, and so was the service and the vibes at this location thanks to the great service. Looking forward to heading back to Pepper Lunch soon! read more
I was pretty excited to know that Pepper Lunch opened a closer location with much better parking than the one in Irvine. With that being said, I've heard mixed reviews about this spot, but still wanted to check it out myself. There are some options on the menu that I think are a bit pricey in my opinion so I wouldn't go for those. Portions are decent. If you're a big eater, you most likely will still be hungry after. || L O C A T I O N / P A R K I N G || -Located in the same plaza as market, Cafe 86, Canaan and next to the same strip as Mian and Bopomofo Cafe -With the opening of many restaurants in this plaza, it's sometimes hard to find parking right away. It's not too bad if you avoid the rush hours. || F O O D || TIP: Utilize the Yelp Check In offer and choose a premium side. The check in offer only works when 2 entrees are purchased. Classic Beef Pepper Rice ($11.50) - Decided to go for the Original Pepper Beef before venturing out to try other flavors. It does kind of suck how you have to pay for extra toppings, it would be nice if a topping or two was already included in the price, but I can overlook that. If you want more meat, definitely opt for the Jumbo Beef. I can't say if it's worth it as I didn't get the option, but from reading fellow Yelper's reviews, there does seem to be a difference between the regular and extra meat option. This tastes super delicious when you add garlic sauce on the rice. I recommend letting the rice cook on the sizzling plate and then add the garlic sauce when it starts to get crispy. If you're not into rice, they also have a pasta option as well. Onion Rings ($3.75) - Chose this as the premium side and honestly did not expect the onion rings to taste good. Surprisingly, these were freshly fried and the batter on the onion rings was super crispy. They give you a nice portion which is perfect to share between 2 people. read more

Pepper Lunch is a solid place for food on sizzling platters. It smells delicious, but beware that it also sticks with you the rest of the day. I suppose it comes with the territory. Vegetarian review: - curry with tofu: the meal was pretty good, and definitely filling. It comes with tofu, mushrooms, onions, some green beans, and corn. Oh, and rice. The curry is on the side so you can control how much goes in. Curry is good, if not a bit salty. That didn't stop me from using the garlic sauce, though. That stuff is delicious. Everything comes out on a hot plate, still sizzling and kind of uncooked. I doubted that it would be done, but by the 5min mark, all the food has heated through (I added an egg, and that was cooked as well). - fries: really crisp. Delightfully so, and worth ordering. Service: prompt and pleasant. Flag them down for anything you need. Parking: easily found. read more

I heard about Pepper Lunch from multiple people, but honestly the whole experience was pretty okay for me. I ordered through the ordering tablet, but when ordering through the tablet, you do have to only use card. However, the card reader wasn't working, and reading through the reviews, I guess they never work? I had to manually type in my card number. You also have to grab your own table number if using the tablet. If you are paying with cash, you order with the cashier. The cashier wasn't there when I went, and they weren't there for like the first 10 minutes I was there. However, when ordering with the cashier, they do give you your table number. A lot of things are really self service. You pick your own table, you pour yourself your own drinks, you get extra sauce and chopsticks at the counter if you need it. They also have to go boxes and plastic bags there for you. The food itself is good, but it's nothing really special. It's just rice with meat, depending on what you get, sometimes there's cheese, sometimes there's kimchi, and there's corn. The staff were always nice, and the food comes to your table pretty fast. I'm unsure if I would come back because it's just not my thing, but I would recommend to others! read more

First time going to Pepper Lunch and it did not disappoint! The food taste delicious! I got the curry beef and the pepper beef. I love both the flavors. I didn't know what I had To do. I was told, cook your meat on the hot plate then mix it around like fried rice lol This restaurant is so different and it's a MUST! Pepper Lunch exceeded my expectations! The jumbo beef sizzling plate was fantastic--tender beef, well-seasoned rice, and the added bonus of complimentary sides for Yelp check-in made it even better. The affordability of the meal was a pleasant surprise. The availability of various sauces and seasonings at the counter allowed me to customize my dish. I'm definitely planning to return and explore more options. A solid 5/5 experience. This location has a lot more seating than the other ones. Service was great too! read more

I came here for the first time to eat lunch. You pretty much seat yourself when you walk in...as long as it's not busy. You gotta walk up to the counter to place your order. I ordered the Surf n Turf coz the pic looked good. The food was served in 5 mins and mixed it all up to cook. The portion was pretty small considering the price ($16.95). The food was very tasty, BUT the steak was awful! It was really tough AND mostly fat! I got robbed! I ate everything but the steak! That was SUPPOSEDLY the best part of the meal! If you come here, don't say I didn't warn you. They don't even have soy sauce! I always eat steam rice with soy sauce. IF I come here again, I'll try something else. read more

can never go wrong with pepper lunch! i always get the beef pepper rice. i didn't know they offered a free side for checking in until recently so i got onion rings. location is in a nice plaza with lots of food + dessert places. not sure how the sauces worked if they already provide it on the table or ask at the counter but they have us small cups for the sauces. read more
I usually go to Irvine location but decided to try this location out. I ordered the beef pepper rice lunch $11.50. My sister ordered angus cut $13.50. I like my meal. The beef was tender and came out sizzling hot! My sister said her beef was kind of chewy. With yelp check-in, we both got a free side. Customer service was really good. The guy was friendly and helpful on getting our table set up since we wanted to sit outside. I will definitely come back again. Plenty of parking. read more
Beef pepper rice + egg: $12.80 + $1.25 (that egg shortage) - Super good, solid, corn, beef, pour some sauce, perfect lunch. Ribeye: $31 something - Very good, doesn't come with the special rice, just regular white rice on the side. - Meat was very good and comes with butter, but I'd prob just stick to the regular thing next time. read more
Absolutely love this place. The food is delicious, and it's always hot and sizzling. The restaurant area is nice, nothing special. The mens room is also clean. They tend to you often and ask if u need any extra sauces. Overall I'm happy with the food and service at this place. Thank you! read more
Pepper lunch! I thought it was a delicious and simple meal. I got the beef pepper rice with egg and cheese. For the beef to cook, I turned over all the pieces. Apparently if you flatten the rice out, you can cook them til they're crispy. The fries were one of the best fries I've had, soft and right amount of salt. Thanks Aaron for serving us! And glad that this place wasn't crazy crowded on a Friday night unlike other Cerritos restaurants. read more
I can see why this place is called Pepper lunch. Everything has a lot of pepper in it. We got it delivered by Postmates and my first though upon opening the boxes was wow, they're kind of stingy with the protein! The Hamburg steak entree was laughable. It was free if we spent $30 on Postmates but the size of the Hamburg steak was so tiny and sad. It wasn't anything spectacular either. The salmon teriyaki although thin was pretty good and tasted healthy. Our favorite was the jumbo beef pepper rice, though not really jumbo in my opinion. It seemed like just a normal size to me. The beef was very tender and overall very tasty. We also got the seaweed shake salad but there wasn't much seaweed at all. Not sure if we would get it delivered again, but I would give them a visit to experience the sizzling plates. read more

3rd timer here. I ordered the beef pepper rice and it does not disappoint. I just love the food as it's brought to the table while still sizzling. You are surrounded with the aroma of the food even before you have your first bite! You mix the food together to make a marriage of love in your mouth. The subtle but distinct flavor of pepper adds a next level of tastiness. The crispy rice and beef bits that were cooked on the bottom are amazing. And because it's served on an iron plate, the food stays hot. I'm getting hungry again for this as I'm writing it! I'll be back for sure! read more
Stopped by here for lunch after our so cal trip, and satisfied our pepper lunch craving! You can order at the counter once you get in and grab a seat or mobile order form your table. We enjoyed the classic beef pepper lunch, kimchi pepper lunch and beef curry pepper lunch all with an additional egg to each. We love eating it family style so we can try variety of flavors. They have the basic sauces at the table, you can get additional toooings/seasonings at the front counter. Service was friendly and we got our food fairly quick. Any additional bowls or utensils needed they accommodated quickly. read more

Of all the PL locations in the area. This one is really well decorated. I usually go to the Irvine one, so this one has a nice vibe to it. Decent amount of room, staff is quick, and parking is packed depending what time of day you go. I usually get the classic beef (which is what my bf got), but I decided to finally try the eel pepper rice. Which I am shook I haven't had before!! It was yummy. I added the shredded cheese, and garlic chips (but next time will do w/o garlic chip). The amount of eel they gave was great, didn't know it came with egg to mix in, and the cheese added a nice texture to it. I use the sauces they had, and really want another plate LOL. If I wasn't going out to dinner that night, I would of gotten one to go to be honest. read more

It was my first time here and I will definitely be back!! Food 4.5/5 I ordered the shrimp peppered rice & miso soup!I ordered it as is and added their special sauces! It was a perfect and light meal for me! My boyfriend did like his food (beef tereyaki) but he felt like there was a lot of corn. It was his first time ordering, so he will definitely make adjustments next time. My little brother ordered the onion rings and he loved them. He said that they were fresh and clean and not overly oily. *portions are pretty small for growing men lol, perfect for me - Service & ambiance 5/5 Service was great! This was a random outing in Cerritos and when we came upon Pepper Lunch. We ordered the salmon pepper lunch and the chicken kurakee with two sides of kimchi. The kimchi for me was ok. I've definitely had better so this wasn't my fav. The salmon came out perfectly cooked but as it continued to cook on the hot plate it became over cooked. Some of my rice became burnt or hard. I didn't quite understand the concept of the hot plate because the food doesn't come out raw, it comes out at a good temp and overcooks on the hot plate. The hot plate was so hot it was hard for me to eat my food because my food remained too hot. lol it's kind of funny because i left with a scorched tongue. Overall, I wouldn't say this place is bad. Food was good and came out hot right away! The service was fast and friendly. The ambiance of the place is much more casual than I expected, perfect if you want to grab casual lunch with friends or even if you want to stop by for a quick meal. Overall, will be going back! read more

Stopped in for a quick bite. Nice little place. Very friendly staff. We ordered Teriyaki Beef with onion and Garlic. The onion was 2.00 and the garlic was 1.50. This added another 3 to 4 dollars to my 12.99 lunch. My daughter had Chicken Rice. Both dishes came out fast. The portion size was small for roughly 16.00. The teriyaki was tender and the sauce was outstanding. I feel like it was worth it because of the sizzling bowl it came in. That was probably the best part. Everything else was fresh but basic. Me and my wife love pepper lunch! Their service is super fast, so it's a great quick place to eat. We come here a lot for their rice pepper lunches which are really good with the sauces they provide. The space is nice too, but the parking can sometimes be hard read more
