Very garlicky (self explanatory but I've found that some places don't add enough garlic) and comes with a generous amount of chicken. I think it makes more sense for the sit down side to be the same as the bathroom. And the cashier side is takeout. 2) Partition the two sides with like a wall but not a high wall. 2/3 of restaurant is sit down. 3) Have a few ipads for people to order takeout and pay. I usually go to the Irving Street one but this one was closer to where my friends live so we went here instead. The sit down situation was less welcoming - we weren't really told to seat and waited for a while before we went up to the counter to ask if we order up there. Service was really subpar which is why I knocked down some stars. The food itself is good - pretty on par with the other location (menu is smaller though). Went to Perilla for the first time last week. I ordered the vermicelli with mixed vegetables and imperial roll. I was pleasantly surprised with the variety and abundance of vegetables! I feel like when you order mixed vegetables it's always a crap shoot. So apparently their 5 spice chicken garlic noodle dish is what they're most known for - this being my first time here obviously I *had* to get it. It was pretty good! My first bite of the noodle was pretty surprisingly. Even though I knew it was buttery, I didn't think it would be so filling. I loved the Perilla location in inner sunset and so was excited to try this location in Haight. The food was just as great - imperial rolls were perfectly crunchy, the 5 spice chicken was juicy, and the garlic noodles are seriously so addictive, chewy and buttery! Service was also awesome - even though it's pay at counter, the employee got us water even when it was self serve and we were just confused about where to get water. Perilla is a great takeout spot and relatively fast-casual dining option. I've had the beef, pork, and five spice chicken before with vermicelli and with garlic noodles. I've enjoyed the beef and five-spice chicken the most. I think the prices can be high, while it's a good amount of food the dishes lack accompanying sides, veggies, etc. that are pretty typical of most rice/vermicelli/noodle bowls and can be pretty greasy. Typically, it ends up being a meat + a carb + 1-2 pieces of broccoli. While it's a pretty good meat + carb, I'm not sure it 100% justifies the price. The service is great and the staff are very nice. I've been to Perilla several times, this location and the one on Mission St. and this location consistently fails to provide quality food. I had just eaten at the Mission location last week and was craving more garlic noodles and beef after work. However, the Mission St. location closes at 3 pm. Huge bummer because it's in a great, convenient location. Anyways, decided to go to the Haight location because I'd been there before and hoped that the food would taste similar-ish. Boy was I wrong. Not sure if management has changed or if the food had been sitting around for a long time but the food was straight up cold. Not even warm. AND the portion of meat was much less than the other location. The garlic noodles were barely flavored and the meat was not flavorful (as it's supposed to be). :( paid $15 and spent 20 minutes driving for meager portions and bland food. I got a $40 for $20 Groupon that convinced me to try this place along with the good reviews from a friend. I ordered a five spice chicken plate with a fried egg, the garlic noodles with the pork chops, and the garlic noodles with the beef. The bill with tax and top was just under $50. My favorite dish out of all of them was the pork chops with garlic noodles. The meat was cooked really well for all of the dishes and extremely flavorful. Portion sizes were huge and I'll have leftovers for days which should heat up easily. If it's your first time I couldn't recommend the garlic noodles enough. You'll definitely enjoy them. It's really excellent, but that place is in the West Village in NYC and doesn't have anything to do with this place so who cares? No, the only thing in common is the name, and this Perilla is related to the two other locations on Irving Street in the Inner Sunset and on Mission near 2nd. It's the Mission Street location that has provoked me to have a long-running hankering for Five-Spice Chicken with Garlic Noodles, but the problem is that it's only open until 3PM. My hankerings usually occur after work, so that was a perennial bummer until I discovered that this Perilla is open for dinner until 9PM. Got it so far? Anyway, the best part is that it's an easy 6 or 7 MUNI ride away from Downtown. It's in that convenient hub of eateries in the Lower Haight where Wonderland, Taqueria Estrella, Cafe International and now Stone House are. When I first walked in, the place looked somehow incomplete as if they were still waiting for their Cost Plus home decor shipment. But the menu was complete, and like the Mission Street location, you go up and order at the front counter.
