Since there's no seating inside, I went to nearby Alamo Square to check out the goods. The fish cake was particularly good, and there was a generous portion of it. The banh mi was a bit messy though, so the pair of napkins in the takeout bag came in clutch. I next tried the tofu, and it was just okay. Compared to the fish cake, it was rather plain. The tofu itself wasn't marinated, so it relied on the sauce and egg butter to carry it. My overall first impression is that the ingredients here are fresh, and service is efficient, but the style of the banh mi leans more fusion than strictly authentic. There's only room enough for a few people inside the shop at a time, and they have parklets right outside if you want to dine at the restaurant. The banh mi has a good portion of meat and fresh veggies, though its fatal flaw is that it suffers from cut-your-mouth-hard-bread. The pate was flavorful and I wish there was just a little more in the sandwich, spread more evenly!
