I really enjoy this restaurant. The food is well priced and always very tasty. I usually get it delivered as I work close by and they are not able to deliver every day as they are very tightly staffed. My girlfriend and I stopped in to have a quick bite before catching a show and were pleasantly surprised. This is a family run business where everybody takes part to ensure that their patrons are being well taken care of, the food is absolutely delicious. Yum Yum Yum!!! this place is so yummy. i love that it seemed to be the owner that served me and my bf. his family even came by and said hi. there was so much flavor packed in every bite. i got the grilled fish (which looked pan fried but delicious nonetheless) and my bf got the lomo saltado. i loved every bite of each dish. don't forget to get the fried yucca and empanadas (best i've ever had)! the green sauce could be spicy to most, but i'm into that stuff so it had just the right amount of zest. will definitely come here again and again! read more

Not bad. The lomo salt ado was a 5/5 because it had good flavor and the meat was not rough. The papa rellena (stuffed fried potato) was good but the onion salsa was not that good. I give it a 4/5. The causa de pollo was a disappointing 2/5 because the mashed potato is not seasoned properly and has no flavor. The chicha morada (purple corn cider drink) was another disappointment as it does not taste authentic; they claim it is made there but it tastes suspiciously like the stuff you make with the powder that comes in a packet, so I give it a 2/5. Maybe it is naturally made but I'm just saying it didn't taste like it. Another disappointment was their Huancaina sauce which did not taste like Huancaina sauce; it lacked the required aji amarillo (Peruvian yellow pepper) flavor, so I give that a 2/5. Now, the reason why this place gets 4 stars instead of 3, other than because the lomo saltado was pretty good, is their alfajores (dessert) are out of this world! They are delicious. The alfajores are a definite 5/5; the cookie crumbles in your mouth and the caramel filling is plentiful and delicious! Next time I will order 5 or 10 of those to go! Anyway, that is all I've tried so far. This place is not excellent and not everything tastes like authentic Peruvian, but it is pretty good to satisfy a Peruvian craving, for a pretty good price. read more

Inexpensive. Very small and cramped little spot. Not recommended to bring more than one person to dine in during lunch or dinner rush unless you are willing to wait to get a table. Good food but does not compare to some of my favorites for Peruvian in other cities. read more

I had been wanting to go to this place for a while, but finally got a chance to. I had the bistec pobre, which was a thin steak with rice and beans and fried plantains. Also there was an egg, which seems to be a hipster trend these days. The food was very tasty and quite filling at a good price point. I wanted to try their empanadas. They were ok but nothing stood out. I would opt for Argentina if I want empanadas. However, their seafood is interesting. Looks fresh and has a taste of lemon and lime to it. I don't know if the seafood is frozen or not. The Peruvian corn is something you should try and to be honest that is what stands out the most from my experience. But I do think Peruvians are also known for their yellow chili pepper sauces which aren't considerably spicy. The location is a bit busy and takes away from the pleasure of eating food there. read more

Honestly this place is not authentic Peruvian cuisine, food is very bland, I had the papa a la huancaina and Pollo a la brasa, the chicken doesn't even have the right seasoning, Krogers rotisserie chicken are way better. Oh the only reason they get a two stars because the chicha was the only good thing that I tried. read more

Great little place with excellent service. The staff was very friendly, and the restaurant was very clean including the restroom. The food was really good and it was a good sized portion for the price. We had the lomo saltado and the jalea both were very tasty and quality of the meat and fish were good. The chicacha morada was kind of strong but still very good and definately not watered down. The restaurant in very small and the seating is limited however that will not stop us from going back. I enjoyed it not being overly formal like a few other places in town, and the staff makes you feel welcome ALOT more than the stuffier places. I can't wait to go back and try some more of their dishes. I wish this new place the best of luck and with their service and food I'm sure they will succeed! read more

My husband and I visited the place for the first time today. The owner is super nice and interested in our costumer experience. We shared a few stories and he told us about the restaurant and how it started. The food is amazing! So fresh, so authentic, so flavorful. We had the Papas a la Huascaina, and the seafood platter. The price is good, and the place is pristine. The service is fast and we also joined the frequent costumer program. Definitely a place we will be visiting soon. read more

We were longing for a good and authentic Ceviche, and we found Peru Cafe Express. Great food and nice and friendly service. Carlos the owner makes a good job with his team. The Ceviche is the best in Houston, fresh ingredients and the right seasoning for both fish ceviche and mixed (fish and seafood) ceviche. The Causas and the Empanadas to start with are delicious and the Jalea also great, as well as the Chaufa! Leave some space for the Flan, it is good! And the Alfajores, awesome! They offer Peruvian Beer, Cuzquena and Inka Kola, the great Peruvian soft drink, both diet and regular. The Chicha Morada (typical beverage made of corn) was refreshing. I am in love with this place! Located on the side of 59 close to Kirby, this little hole in the wall has a very fast food restaurant vibe to it. They have fluorescent lighting and you go up and order from the register. I got the beef empanadas and the mixed ceviche! Oh my how mouth watering-ly delicious! Writing this review right now makes me crave the empanadas ! If you visit for the first time this is a must try. The bread was very fluffy and airy, and the meat tastes fresh. They sprinkle powdered sugar on top and give you a fresh lime wedge to squeeze on the empanada. It was savory with a hint of tangy and sweet. Next thing I had was the ceviche! I loved this dish as well, very tart and made me pucker. They had corn kernels for sides which complemented the ceviche really well. If you like ceviche, this is a must try as well. Overall a good experience. Service wise, there was one girl on staff, so depending on how busy this small place gets, she can be pretty busy running around from table to table.. But she was very friendly and helpful and does her best to cater to everyone. Good food, good service, a must visit! Oh and they also have small tables outside and I was able to take my dog. Since moving from NYC, the land of ordering delivery from your seamless app and having your food delivered 30mins later, it's been a tough adjustment to mandatory take-out if you don't cook/want to go to a restaurant every night. Found this place on yelp; it's on the way home from work. The food was ridiculously good. The steak was awesome; perfectly prepared. The chicken with veges in white wine sauce rocked my world. I'm going back once a week. Also, the people were so nice! The lady very patiently helped me order, which took a while because I've never had Peruvian food before. It was my first time going today it was about half an hour from where I live but I am peruvian so I really wanted to try it out. I went with my family (we are 5 i total) and all of the seats were full. There were 10 seats max so we had to wait standing up it was pretty uncomfortable. A family left about 10 minutes later and we took a seat and a little bit later our food arrived. We ordered lomo saltado,ceviche mixto, and tallarin verde con bistec. What can I say it was well served and delicious! The time it took to get there and the wait was so worth it! We went with my son today around 4 pm, not packed at all, attended by the owner which is very friendly, we ordered chicha morada, the best ever drunk in Texas, next yuca a la huancaina, good fried quality, smoothe flavor sauce, lightly spicy. Then came in the ceviche...WOW! fresh fish and shrimps, fresh lemon juice, we asked it very spice, but it was all good, the Jalea, out of this world, deep fried shrimps, octupus and fish as well as yuca with the huge peruvian corn, the good thing, not a drop of oil in my plate, everything perfectly golden fried. WE will come back as soon as we can, because we live in Beaumont. I am giving just 4 stars because is the max I will rate any good restaurant, even though is always room for improvement. Service prompt and courteous. The amount of food is not precisely large and prices are not cheap, hope they keep their quality and good quality food is not cheap. read more
