Our experience was top notch. Dr. Evelyn Wilson and Dr. Kristen Janusz were helpful, friendly and caring. We brought our sheltie there after first avoiding the place because of bad reviews. We went to Lynnwood instead, where the wait to be seen even with a pet in great distress was four hours. So we came to Mt. Vernon in desperation. There was no wait. Our dog (Shasta) was put on an IV immediately and given a vitamin shot. During this episode, I was actually in Europe, so I called in from Bucharest and Copenhagen respectively to get updates through the two nights that Shasta was under care. I spoke to Dr. Wilson, who always came to the phone quickly (at 3am) and spoke frankly. Dr. Wilson first suspected a transient gastric condition, but when Shasta improved little she told me it was probably a more serious problem (indeed we had already been told by another vet that Shasta's kidneys might fail). Dr. Wilson couldn't be sure without seeing the blood work, but concurred that it might very well be kidney disease (which was confirmed a few days later by the first vet). So, I don't know about these other reviews. My family encountered a professional operation. read more

They are so incredibly incompetent here! took my dog in who was not doing well. they took my dog back and did nothing to help him for hours. took xrays and read them wrong. pretty much told me his heart and liver were failing. the next day after being seen there we took our dog to his regular vet where he read the X-rays and said that vet read them wrong and that what they told us was not true and my dog is now on the mend. I know there's no options during the night but this place is horrible! read more

I would like to start this review with a positive. They have very talented staff and preformed work beyond my expectations. Truly very gifted veterinarians. I would trust them with any emergency. The negative: My daughter's dog was attacked by another dog and had lost a lot of blood. It was at 12 AM in the morning when she walked from HWY 20, where her car had broken down to the Emergency hospital. After walking for over 5 miles, she was covered with blood and with her dog dying in her arms she arrived at the hospital. She was greeted with the staff telling her that a large deposit would be required before they would looked at the dog. I understand that it is a business and you want to make sure you get paid, but with an animal bleeding out in your lobby. I would think the hospital would at least take the dog into stop the bleeding while payment arrangements were completed. My daughter was able to get in touch with me and I gave a credit card. The dog is doing better than expected. The next morning she came back to visit her dog and was told that the deposit of $4000 did not cover the charges and an additional $2500 would be due. She was told to not leave the property until this was paid. If she left the property, they would discontinue treatment. Oh and by the way, this was not my daughters first visit to the hospital and had always paid her bill when presented. In the end we are very pleased with the results and just think the staff in the front could have been given more latitude by the hospital to show a little more compassion. read more

WORST PLACE EVER!!!! It was a Sunday night and my little chiweenie who was only a couple months old at the time, had gotten into my medication while I wasn't home. My son wasn't sure if she had digested any of the medication. We called them and they told us to call some other number before we could even bring her to them. That phone call cost us almost $100 just for them to tell us what we already knew and get a confirmation number to give to the vet when we called them back. They also took their sweet time and acting like it wasn't an emergency. When we called the vet back, they also took their sweet time with giving us the information. When we got to the vet, they took her in as we had to sit in the car. They told us that we should keep her there for 24 hour surveillance and they would give her IV treatment. We agreed to that. They told us it would be $1,000 or so and we told them that we could pay when we picked her up. It was midnight at this point, no banks were open and our ATM limit was only $500. We said that we would go to the bank first thing in the morning and bring it to them even before it was time to pick her up. They told us NO and they would not accept that. They told us to try CARE CREDIT and Scratch. We both knew we didn't have the credit for it but tried and got denied anyways. I called them on the phone to explain this to them and the lady told me to call back when I wasn't hysterical and hung up on me. I wasn't hysterical at all and even if I was my baby was in there and I was scared she might die. I called right back and she hung up on me again. I called back again and explained to her again that we got denied like we knew we would and we would have the money first thing in the morning when the bank opened. She said she would ask the vet and see what they wanted to do and to call back. Mind you I am sitting right in front of their door this whole time. I called back and the first thing out of her mouth was "how much money do you have on you?" I told her $100. Next thing I knew, she was walking out with my puppy towards the drivers side of the car. She ripped the money out of my boyfriends hand and literally threw my puppy threw the window onto my boyfriends lap, walked away and slammed the door. They didn't give us a receipt or any documents to tell us what to do or watch for. We tried to to call the next day to file a complaint and kept getting the run a round. Finally, got a call back and she emailed a receipt. At the bottom of this receipt I noticed a sentence. PLEASE DONATE TO OUR ANGELS FUND TO HELP OTHERS PAY FOR THE CARE OF THIER PETS WHEN THEY CAN'T AFFORD IT" or something along those lines. My jaw dropped to the floor when I read this! I would NEVER take my worst enemies pets here! I hope this place goes out of business or something! In my opinion, take them to the emergency vet in Bellingham. I was so disappointed with this clinic. I brought my cat in at 2:15 pm and they told me it was a 4- 4 1/2 hour wait. Great! I thought because Bellingham was a 6 1/2 - 7 hour wait. When I arrived, someone came out to evaluate my cat. Calling her cute, but stable. I told them she hasn't been eating or drinking for at least 2-3 days. Fast forward at about 6:30 on I called the clinic, which I had been staying at so I didn't lose my spot, just to get an idea of how much longer it might be to see my cat, Bella. They said Bella was the next patient to be seen, but they said they were full and they had a transfer emergency and not to think that it was going to be quick that Bella got in. I told her, I totally understand. Then, 8:15 pm rolls around. I see a vet assistant go to another vehicle that was not there as long as I had been and take a cat into the clinic. WTF? I called the clinic and said I've been waiting for 2 1/2 hours for my cat to be seen(since my last talk with the clinic.) she says it's an emergency hospital and there was an emergency...etc. I said, 'I totally get that, but when I called 2 1/2 hours ago they said Bella was the next one on the list. She said, let me check on that. I was on hold and then she came back to tell me it was a 'special circumstance'. I hung up. At that point, my insurance provider showed up to jump my car from waiting so long, I got back in my car and left. Sobbing, Halfway home I got a call to see if I was still there because someone came out to find me (and Bella) but I wasn't there. (No doubt) and said they'd take me off the list, I managed to choke out a few nos and hung up the phone.. The next morning I made sure to get my cat to the Bellingham emergency clinic by 8am. Bella got in and then after they finished the bloodwork, they said she was in severe renal failure. Long story short I was shocked, dismayed and angry. I now know how much pain my cat was in based on what the euthanasia Dr. helped me understand. How come the clinic technicians could not recognize the signs? Bottom line, my cat is dead. I chose euthanasia because of the pain I knew she was in. read more

We had to make the extremely difficult decision to put our 10 year old rottweiler down. Our regular vet had no openings, so we called the PEC. They gave us priority (due to our dog being in pain and needing attention right away) and we did not have to wait more than a few minutes after arriving. They staff were SO compassionate and sensitive to our situation. They came out to the parking lot to do the procedure, since moving our dog would put her in more pain. The vet was very kind and gentle during the process, and even held our dog's paw as she took her final breaths before crossing over the rainbow bridge. We could not have asked for a better experience in such a horribly painful situation. read more

Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience with one of the vet techs at this hospital. Although I did not catch her name, I can distinguish her by her lip piercings. I am very understanding of the fact that July 5th is one of the busiest days for animal hospitals and shelters. I am very understanding of the fact that staff is busy and stressed. However, the way this vet tech handled me and my dog, was unacceptable. My dog is reactive (barks) toward strangers. However, once vet techs, doctors, or staff take his leash and take him, he will no longer react and will let them do their job. He has been seen by many vets and specialists given his epilepsy, pancreatitis/liver failure, and nasal furunculosis, and this has always been the case. Given his reactivity, I always muzzle him just in case (although he has never bitten anyone, better safe than sorry). When I checked him in I made sure to let the receptionists know about his reactivity and how to best handle/support him; they seemed to have understood. When the vet tech came to look at him, I explained to her how he would do best and she bluntly and rudely said, "I cannot take him to the back." I offered her treats to give him and she said, "I cannot give him treats." She then proceeded to tell me to get behind my car so that he wouldn't be protective of me... he barked at her once (while wearing his muzzle) and she slammed my car door in his face. Thankfully, he wasn't in the way, otherwise, she could have injured him if he got caught between the door. She proceeded to tell me that they would have to use a pole catcher to get him into the hospital and put him to sleep to even look at him. Her tone of voice was very rude and short. The whole interaction was unacceptable. Thankfully, I took my dog to a vet about an hour north and they listened to me and how to best handle/support him; they followed my lead. Low and behold, as soon as I handed the leash to them and they walked away from me, he did not react, he received many treats and pets, and went into the hospital and laid at the vet tech's desk patiently while waiting for his turn to be looked at. My hope for Mount Vernon Pet Emergency Center is that they hire and train strong, resilient, and kind staff that will do their job and work well with pets and their owners. read more

Our dog Kratos has congestive heart failure and his lungs had finally given up on him. Our whole family, Grandma, Mom, 3 kids, and myself (Dad) came in with him barely able to breathe. They rushed us in, gave him oxygen and sedated him a little. They talked us through each step, and explained everything to except through the process of putting him to sleep. If I could give this place a zero I would plus some.. I'm actually really angry with a lot of vets. They supposedly care about about animals but it's sickening that it's cheaper to kill them then help them. What a joke! Our little guy Benji was 2 years old, he like to eat socks, hair ties blankets etc. we did our best as humans to prevent this but he was fast. He recently got something and didn't pass it like he had in the past, so I took him to the vet because he was very sick and not eating. Payed almost 500 for exam and X-rays, they gave him some fluids I hoped it would help him pass like it he always has, they wanted us to go elsewhere and get an ultrasound and said good chance was that he needed surgery if he didn't pass. Surgery was an estimate of 6-9000, that was an estimate...another joke. I'm pretty sure most people with pets are middle class people, who don't have Money in there bank to drop like that. We can afford our pets and to take good care of them but this was ridiculous. I went back and forth with this emergency clinic debating to bring him, but at the same time had hope that he might pass this at home. When I say debating is because they said if I bring him in they would first do ultrasound and theres is small so if that didn't work they would call in someone who was a traveling ultrasound tech, all I could think was ok $$$$$ but this isn't helping my puppy. I felt like there was no help and all I saw was my pup getting sicker. Finally my husband called because he wasn't doing well and we didn't want him to suffer any longer and we were going to put him down, and the lady he spoke with called us back and said the vet wanted to see him first because he was only two but it was too late. We lost him. I'm sickened at the thought if I would've called and said I'm going to put him down sooner the vet might of helped, it's disgusting that's what it takes. I would've said right away he needed to be put down if I thought they would actually cared and helped. It's also funny these vets are raping people if you see attached it's up to 2,500 for this surgery. I don't think many people themselves could walk into a drs office and put down 6-9,000 to stay alive, but they expect this to help a puppy and want this up front for your pets. I understand a down payment but again it's sickening that these vets would expect that much money before helping and this place was well aware he was very sick. Like I said in the first part of the review it's disgusting and makes me sick it's cheaper to kill your pet then help, and this place acted like they cared when we brought up putting him down because he was suffering, but it was too late. Luckily I live near the Mount Vernon, WA Pet Emergency Center, and it has come in handy a few times. I recently had to take my 14 yr old chihuahua/dachshund mix in because she was very lethargic, couldn't keep food down, and was having accidents everywhere. Yes, I had to wait in my vehicle for a couple hours due to the volume of other people in a similar predicament. I was treated great by a clearly busy staff, and kept up to date as she was assessed and treated. My Daisy essentially had kidney failure. I was given treatment options, but sadly, chose to euthanize because prolonging her pain was not a fair option for me or her. I was invited in to a private exam room after the decision was made and given all the time I needed with her to say our goodbyes. I chose "do it now" after giving her a lot of loves, I didn't want to prolong this. She passed calmly, with her head on my shoulder, and took her home to be buried near her big sis. While this is never a good experience, the staff and the veterinarian that helped me were very caring and compassionate. Emergency vet care adds up quick, but I don't feel it is unfair by any means. Especially considering nature of what they do. I am thankful they are there to help 24/7, and will not hesitate to use them again. We just had to bring our 10 month old puppy to the emergency vet at 9pm on a Sunday. He was having a pretty severe allergic reaction. The emergency vet was great. They checked us in quickly. The vet quickly identified the problem and gave him a few shots he needed. The vet seemed experienced, and had clearly seen the problem before. She was friendly and treated our dog well. The nurses were kind as well and did everything they could to make him comfortable. They went over everything he needed for his care in the next few days and said we could call any time of the night if we had questions. Overall I would highly recommend this emergency vet clinic for a situation like ours. read more

Very caring and compassionate team of folk. I arrived Saturday morning and the average wait was three hours. I settled in. However, when they triaged my pup over the phone (because of COVID you wait in your car in the parking lot) they realized he was really sick and came and got him in 30 minutes. They made him comfortable, set up IV with antibiotics, did full diagnostics, and most importantly, communicated really well with me throughout. By Saturday night they said he needed specialty care and suspected cancer. They called the specialty vet hospital with all the relevant info and I picked up my little guy Sunday morning to take him to the specialty hospital. They even called to check up on him a few days later. These folks do hard work dealing with sick pets and their parents day in and day out and they haven't let it callous them; they care a lot. read more

My Great Dane got bloat back in may and we rushed him here at the first signs first we waited 45 minutes to be seen and then were told that we just need to put him down and there's is nothing they could do, this was after just an initial exam without any sort of x-rays or additional parts of an examination. We left and took him to another vet and he ended up being able to have more options than just that from a vet who actually cared. It's now mid October and I haven't heard a word from them until I get a collection notice saying they've contacted me multiple times for a payment. I haven't gotten so much as a voicemail from this company. While the treatment of my dog was great. The wait was absolutely ridiculous. I spent an hour and a half in the lobby. There were two patients already in rooms and no one in front of me in the lobby. After we finally were put in a room, the whole diagnosis took 5 minutes. They said ok, we'll get your meds and you will be on your way. I waited an additional 45 minutes just for the meds. I took my 12 year old dog in as he seemed to be having breathing problems. The vet tech, Tiffany, was caring and friendly. The "I'm just filling in" vet was uncaring both to us and our dog. We did xrays,which were to be read by a licensed veterinary radiologist at a remote location. The reading took an hour and a half instead of the promised half an hour. This would be acceptable if it had been accurate. The radiologist diagnosed vague lung conditions, a "normal" abdomen and "no renal abnormality ". The vet documented a normal abdomen on palpation. On follow up with our regular vet 3 days later,she detected a mass on palpation. On the xrays there was a visible mass engulfing the left kidney that our vet saw within minutes of looking at the xray taken at the emergency clinic...the same xray that the radiologist looked at. My dog weighs 15 pounds and has a tumor that is almost the size of a softball in his abdomen!!!! His labored breathing was most likely related to pain and they missed it. It was a diagnosis made withing 10 minutes when I took my dog to a competent veterinarian. The incompetence of the "specialized" radiologist and the available veterinarian at the emergency center that day is is astounding. read more

They misdiagnosed my cat on Christmas day gave him Medicine he was allergic to and even after we took him back twice saying something was wrong they sent us home saying he was perfectly fine......... an hour and a half later he was dead. Then they proceeded to blame it on us for not offering or insisting on leaving him there Even though that option was never even suggested to us by the staff ,. The attitude of the clinic director and the actual vets is horrendous The clinic director actually said to me "the cat was going to die sometime sooner or later anyhow" the staffed seem very loving caring and concerned but when your boss has an attitude like this guy does I can see why there are so many one star ratings especially recently. I tried to contact the head of the clinic but he apparently is not concerned and will not talk with me he wants me to talk to his clinic director who is an incompetent jerk. My dog walked in, vomiting, but still alert, eager to meet new people, excited to be on a road trip. After 3 days, of their awful, tortuous treatment, he had given up on life and was ready to die. They misdiagnosed him forced him to LAY IN HIS URINE for up to 11.5 HOURS/day, when testing for glucose levels, took 30 - 40 pokes in his legs at a time - every hour or two, never said a kind word to him - no petting, no kindness, nothing! When we first arrived, the initial doctor SCREAMED at me, accusing me of feeding him an unbalanced diet - I've been cooking his food for almost 3 years - it was a great diet plan. She decided his diagnosis and stuck to it, even though none of the tests or ultrasounds agreed. They charged me over $3700 and I had to have him put to sleep after I took him home. The doctor that did it had a hard time finding a place to put the needle due to all of the HOLES THEY MADE TAKING GLUCOSE TEST POKES!!! In three days they made that many holes in my little boy's legs - he couldn't even walk anymore! They wouldn't let him out to go to the bathroom during the day shift! Oh - the last night he was there, the male dr was overheard, from the waiting room, saying that if it were up to him, "Gus would already be in the ground"! How good do you think the quality of care was that he gave my dog? I imagine he told him all night to "die - why don't you just die!" There are so many nightmare stories of this clinic - RUN, don't walk, to any of the farther south clinics if you want you pets to live! Please! read more

My girl Pebbles went downhill fast on a Sunday and had to make the hard choice to let her go. They literally made us wait for 3 hours (for a procedure any vet tech could do in 5 min.) while she suffered in the van, then after paying to have private cremation so we could get her ashes back they then carelessly marked her body as communal, not private. After waiting 2 weeks I called to find out she was gone, and I wasn't getting to bring her ashes home. She wasn't trash to be discarded and we are devastated. Labor day weekend, Sunday at 2pm my three legged poodle tweaked her leg during play, and wouldn't put any weight on it. By 8pm, there was no improvement so off to the clinic we went. I had called on the phone to ask some preliminary questions and the woman who helped me on the phone (Elizabeth I believe, but not sure) was knowledgable, pleasant and helpful. Upon arrival to the clinic, we were helped promptly and courteously, given our paperwork and after a brief wait were let in to the exam room. The vet tech, as well at doctor were amiable, gentle and wonderful with my little girl Slinky and in less than an hour had an x Ray, diagnosis, and treatment plan completed. Pricing was fair and reasonable. The front staff was also excellent, providing me a copy of the radiograph on disc as well as letting me know they would find my vets info (I live in Los Angeles and was in town visiting family) and would send a digital copy to my.vet for records sake. Thankfully, it was only a minor sprain but I am happy to know that there is a capable, fairly priced and kind team of professionals available for when I need vet care while.visiting family.
