We come here all the time, but on Valentine's Day, a day where they are fully booked, I came in with an understanding heart for what they must be trying to handle. Needless to say, we were beyond thrilled with our experience. Sean, our waiter, was absolutely fantastic. Attentive to all our requests, sweet as can be and on top of our service like there were no other tables he needed to attend to. What a pro! I can't express enough how thrilled and surprised we were. Add onto that the cuisine, which as always, is divine. SADLY, there was a table with a couple fighting for most of the meal. This was not the restaurants fault, thus the review staying at 5 stars. My husband and I were in Studio City at 6:45 PM on Friday and traffic to Northridge was very heavy so we decided to stop at Petit Trois with no reservations. There were no tables available until 8:15 PM but there was plenty of seating at the main bar, and there is also a smaller bar with seats looking into the kitchen. The servers at the bar were efficient, fun and engaging. We decided to order a few appetizers to share. The escargot, served with a warm, crusty baquette, was swimming in garlic buttery goodness.....so good. The outside of the french onion soup was drenched in cheese with lots of onion gooeyness inside. The broth by itself was outstanding. We also ordered their crab cake. While it was very good it was my least favorite of the three. It was quite different from any crab cake I have had before. To start with it was dense. Not in a bad way, just not lumpy or flaky. It was served on a light sauce that was sweet and pungent, with a small herb salad on top. It was more of an asian sauce as opposed to something like a remoulade. We also ordered a glass of wine and a non alcholic beer. It was completely packed at the bar and in the waiting area when we were leaving, so I would definitely recommend making reservations ahead of time. Therefore, had to wait another 25 minutes for the soufflé. While they took off the cost of the late soufflé, and the tough steak... At these costs, these things should not have happened . The "big mec" should be called the "big meh" burger. I heard it was amazing, but not impressed. I gave it an 8.6, but I think when you factor the $40 price tag that's generous. At $40 Def not worth the $$$. Fathers Office does a much better burger, as does HiHo. I make a better burger at home! Don't know what's going on with this place. The valet was a total idiot, long story...and also, thought it was weird that the waiter explained that the 18% service charge was for health care, basically suggesting we should tip extra on top of that in a roundabout way. Ambiance is nice, drinks were good, and goat cheese salad, French onion soup, and crème brûlée and napoleon were delicious. This is why I'm still giving 3/5 stars. Have been here a few times and have always loved it and Chef Ludo. So it pains me to continue on with this review and why I docked off 2 stars when I recently went with my 2 girlfriends: This time around the filet was not cooked to our liking (wanted medium rare and it was a little more tougher to cut and chew on than MR)... and the mussels and frites were very salty. Sometimes we felt rushed to finish our meal, which we needed to slowly take in because of how difficult it was to chew on and salty it was to taste to begin with. Love the burnt tops on our French onion soup and crème brûlée, but not on our toasts - which were overly burnt for our goat cheese salad and mussels. What's more, and this is the worst part because I am usually a really really good tipper....there is an 18% service charge added to your bill. Yes this has been around and sometimes it is on the check as a little hidden disclaimer that we might happen to notice. But our server, who was overall friendly during the meal, set some time to explain to us how the bill works and that "gratuity is not included" - she wasn't pushy about tipping, but the speech did feel rehearsed and like it "would be nice" to add a tip (and therefore not nice if we didn't). My girlfriend is all about restaurant etiquette and this approach did not sit well with her AT ALL (this never does with her with any restaurant that does this). Unfortunately our "catching up with each other" conversation just led to a discussion about "tipping." My friend pointed out that when that "information" is made out to the customer in a certain way (maybe that's how they are trained to say it?) once the bill is presented, in the end they might feel funny- and they (this time we) would be paying 18% for "service" plus maybe another 15-20% at least "for tip" - if you're talking normal tipping amt? - that means that you're adding a whopping 33-38% your total bill to your dinner cost. That just sounds ridiculous. Then my dentist friend started talking about how if this is how "service" works now, she should charge "service" fees to patients as her dental assistants are doing great jobs as well, and need health insurance like everyone else - but of course she can't and it's just coming out of the business as usual! Although a little tip was left, We expressed to each other that we probably won't be back. Just seems like This service plus tipping thing is getting out of hand and for our own dinner - the whole explaination that the servers don't get extra pay from the "service charge"... was a bummer. We know it's not their fault... there is obviously something wrong with how they are getting paid and them having to explain it to their customers is like a cry for help, and that's just sad. This second location in the Valley on the corner of Woodman and Ventura is definitely not as good as the location in Hollywood but the inside had nice ambience. I recommend sitting inside as outside seating is close to the loud traffic of Ventura. I want to start off by saying our server Lauren was a gem and we absolutely loved her! As far as the food I was a little disappointed with some of the items. Here's everything we got: -Marinated Olives - a lot olives! We couldn't finish them all. -Baquette with butter - always a must but wish it would be complimentary. -Crab cake - we loved this but I don't think it warrants a $25 price tag seeing as it wasn't lump crab but it was still delicious. -Escargots - delicious but I've had better at Taix. They were cooked perfectly but the sauce was on the watery side -French Onion Soup - tasty but I have to say this is also better at Taix. -Goat cheese salad - tasty but basic and too much goat cheese. -Bibb salad - always good. I could eat this everyday and be happy. -Steak Frites - terrible and inedible. We asked for medium rare and it was just raw and tough and chewy and the sauce was flavorless. Thank goodness for the fries and garlic aioli which saved it but $42 for a bad steak is just bad form. -Chocolate soufflé - this is made to order and takes a while to come out but was worth waiting for and the star of the show! Cocktails were next level and wine list is perfection so no complaints there! I will most likely be back but I must say the prices are pretty high considering you would pay half at Taix and there is no 18% service charge on top of tip. I get that restaurants are struggling and I'm so happy Petit Trois is here but I have to be honest and say that they need to do better if they want to last. ***3.5 stars*** Petit Trois might be starting to grow on me, but I must admit, I'm still not their biggest fan. Perhaps a couple more trips here will change that. Petit Trois is a highly regarded restaurant in Los Angeles after all, with rave reviews from food critics and locals alike. I've been to this location twice now, with my most recent trip being Sunday, June 23rd, at around 11:15 am. I'm not sure if this restaurant takes reservations, but expect a decent wait upon arrival, as this place is quite popular. Luckily, we were able to snag the last available table open on their front patio. To eat, I ordered the waffle, priced at $14, which came topped with a generous amount of fresh berries. The waffle was actually pretty delicious, though a little meager in size. I thought it was cooked well, and the syrup was enjoyable. While I did enjoy my meal, it unfortunately wasn't too satisfying. All in all, Petit Trois offers some quality food at an OK price point. I do think most of their items are a bit pricey for the quantity, but the quality does speak for itself. I'm not super crazy about either of the dishes I've tried here, but it's certainly an elevated option for a weekend brunch. read more

Came here for lunch after a recommendation. The restaurant is a cute little place located on a corner. The decor inside really gives you paris vibes. My husband and I ordered: The baguette with butter: the bread came out piping hot and was absolutely delicious. The butter tasted homemade and had just the right amount of salt in it. I would literally come back just to eat this bread and butter.. Crab cake: mediocre. Didn't taste bad but was nothing special at all. The sauce that came with it was very overpowering and strong and was difficult to avoid since the entire plate was covered in it. French Onion soup: very yummy and really hit the spot since it was a bit colder today. I loved the melted cheese on top. I do however think the soup could've used a bit more salt. I would order it again though. The big mec burger: we ordered this burger because it was recommended to us by a friend. We got 1 to share which turned out to be the right decision. The meat used in the burger was delicious but the sauces were way too much. It was basically drenched in their secret sauce and then the plate it was served in was covered in a whole different sauce. I love flavor but this had way too much of it. The combination of the very strong flavors just overpowered the burger and didn't make it very enjoyable. It did come with the most delicious fries though! The fries were crispy and salty and come with this garlic aioli which was divine! Napoleon: very pretty dessert. I loved the flakey crisp pastry in between the custard. It was very good but I would definitely try something different next time. Overall it's a great place and I would recommend it. We went to Petit Trois Sherman Oaks on Easter Sunday 4/20 for a birthday dinner. we have dined here in the past and enjoyed the experience, however this visit left much to be desired. Our reservation was made three weeks ago and we requested a specific table and even called on the morning of to confirm but when we arrived we were told that the table was being given to the pastry chef. After much discussion, we were able to get our table. We order our food and when it arrived, the salad was over dressed, drenched actually. then the main courses arrived and they we bathed in butter, way too much butter. Again, drenched. it seemed that no one was paying attention in the kitchen. The food experience in this restaurant has been wonderful in the past, however this time it was terrible. We could have done better at a diner. and for these prices and experience, come on, you have to do better. read more

Tried Le Petit Trois recently and was unfortunately very let down by both the food and the price. Maybe for 1/2 the price I would say it's decent, but not at the $$$ they're charging. Plus they add an 18% service charge that doesn't include gratuity! The turbot was small, not great, and at $45 (+18%, so really $53!) I expect something much better. On the plus side, service was great and the ambiance was quite nice. So maybe good for a drink or something small. read more

WORST BURGER I've ever had in my life, hands down. I been through it I've had some bad burgers in my life, overcooked hockey pucks soggy great any type imaginable. Also the most EXPENSIVE burger I've ever had in my life. $40!!! I don't care how much I spend on food but if it's horrible like this then yeah it's worth noting. Actual burger itself was cooked well but did not have any flavor, it's presumed they expected to get it from the sauce. The bordelaise sauce was salty AF and tasted like the alcohol wasn't completely cooked off. The burger is drowned in this sauce making it almost unsalvageable. Not sure why they get two stars and not one. Clearly the "French" cooks here can produce food. But with SUCH a heavy hand to butter (above all else) it's a miracle to me this plan is still open. I tried it again recently after getting sick in Hollywood after meal here years ago. The food this time was painfully over done, dry beef bourguignon - if that's possible. The brandy or booze wasn't even burned off and was only outdone by some massive charcoal note. Wow what a failure on a simple meal (it only takes time, not force). There's a whole air of fine dining here to support pricing I guess, whole thing is an utter failure. Made reservations for dinner on a Saturday night for 7:30. Highly recommend you make reservations as this place can get busy. Wait: we arrived a bit early before our reservation around 7:15ish. Had to wait about another 15 mins before actually sitting. Not great when you made reservations and showed up a bit early but what can you do. Parking: street parking only. We lucked out with a meter spot nearby. The area is semi lively on a Saturday night but I would imagine parking isn't going to be a concern. Food: 4/5. For our starters we ordered a feast! Got the escargot, frois grais/pate, and beef tartare. The escargot comes with complimentary baguette and butter. Everything started amazing. I would come back and eat all the starters for our entire meal and be happy. Escargot were my favorite and transported me back to Paris eating at a similar bistro in the city center. Freaking delicious. Mains were the pork chop and the big mec. I didn't really enjoy the big mec. The au jus is a bit too salty for my liking and placing the burger over the au jus makes the bottom bun soggy. Frites were solid. Pork chop was cooked well but the sauce was strange. I'm surprised this place doesn't have higher reviews because nearly everything I've had here has been excellent. The servers have been attentive and friendly and the ambiance is casual but elegant and transports you to a Parisian bistro. They have an ever-rotating list of great wines so you're sure to find something you like every time but we always go for the wine by the carafe since it's a great deal. They start you off with bread and butter and the butter is incredible, very rich and salty. I'm guessing it's French or at least European style butter. The dishes I've tried: French onion soup, endive salad, sweetbreads in cream sauce, ratatouille, pâté, chicken roti, the big mec burger, the steak frites and crime brûlée. The onion soup surprisingly is my least favorite of everything i tried. Still good but could have used a bit more salt and I had high expectations since the rest of the dishes are awesome. The endive salad was well composed with walnuts, creamy avocado, salty slivers of Parmesan cheese and crunchy endive leaves that you can scoop up everything else with, all lightly dressed in a tangy and creamy dressing. The sweetbreads in cream had bits of crouton and apple in the dish as well whose acidity played nicely with the rich sweetbreads. I loved this dish. The ratatouille was delicious but a bit heavier than I'd expected and the pâté was AMAZING. I'm a lover of pâté and order it whenever I can and theirs is superb. Incredibly smooth and meaty and served with grilled, heavily buttered bread, cornichon and a jam (if I remember correctly). The chicken roti is succulent, and delicious. It's served with the creamiest mashed potatoes and a rich, delicious sauce. The steak was very good but the sauce it was served with took it to a whole other level. It perfectly balanced the rich and light, salty with a hint of sweetness, peppery and a spice or herb I can't quite place but am familiar with - maybe something in the anise family? The big mec burger is something you CANNOT miss here. The bordelaise sauce makes an already decadent burger absolutely irresistible. After eating this, you'll understand why you need a knife and fork to go at it. The creme brûlée is the perfect dessert, small enough so you'll have room to share it with a dining partner. That famous crackly, sugary top and rich custard will hit the spot after a delicious meal here. Can't wait to try the brunch here, I know I won't be disappointed! read more

Came here for my bday with two friends. First time experience the restaurant. We had reservations and got seated in a timely fashion. The onion soup was good, but not $25 good, the burger was great. My friends ordered me dessert before they even came back for last call, so I can celebrate my bday, they even said it was my bday. The ambiance is lively, and it's usually pretty full. The cocktails here are hit or miss. The old fashioned is probably the best one I've tried (I am partial to old fashioneds in general though). The wine selection is mostly French, which makes sense given it is a French restaurant. The food here is great. I had the French onion soup as an appetizer and it was really good. Well made, and the cheese was phenomenal. My fiancé had the escargot, which was good as well. For dinner you have to try the "big mec", which is their burger. Real knock against them is for the 18% "service charge" that gets added to the bill. Server makes it clear it doesn't go to them, and if you want to tip more you can. Either include 20% "gratuity," or figure out a menu pricing and service charge fee structure that supports your wait staff. Don't make the customer feel bad for only paying an 18% fee via some gross verbal summation that it goes to healthcare. Had a great dining experience at petit trois le valley. Dame for dinner with my best girl friend and my dog for some great French food! The restaurant is super cute (and can't wait until it's open indoors again as well- looks like a cute French bistro) but outdoor dining was still cute and well spaced. We both got an order of the French onion soup and then split the ham and butter sandwich. The French soup was incredible and everything you want in French onion soup- rich, cheesy, and the bread soaked up the broth perfectly. The ham and butter sandwich was also good (fries with aioli were amazing) but honestly wasn't amazing and I would probably try something different next time. It was lacking that rich saltiness of the sandwiches in France. We ended with the chocolate soufflé which was a chocolate explosion! It was a good soufflé, light and airy, with a whole side of chocolate sauce and fresh fluffy whipped cream. One of the highlights for me was actually the cocktail list! I had a hard time choosing they all sounded incredible. I went with the Doctor's Orders, which had bourbon, pineapple, citrus, and lavender, and was unreal I loved it. I rarely get to try French onion soup and I would say this place had the BEST French onion soup I've ever had. Delicious broth with tasty croutons and a scrumptious layer of melted cheese on top. The soup is heaven sent. My date and I also tried the steak tartare and Big Mec Burger. The steak tartare was fabulous. By the time we chowed down on the burger we were pretty full. Not your average cheeseburger as this burger came with melted cheese oozing out and loaded with an au jus sauce. Minor issues were FOH staff training ... we ordered the Big Mec and asked for the the beef to be prepared as rare as possible, to which the server replied: "all our beef is cooked rare." When we got our orders ... they were all medium well to well done. When this was brought to the server's attention, the manager came over to the table explaining that the beef patties were so thin, that it would be impossible for it to be cooked to rare or medium rare. One in our party decided to have her Big Mec replaced with a Boursin Omelette, which was very well prepared. I decided to eat my modified Big Mec, but did notice that the bordelaise sauce was served broken - meaning that the butter was separating from the sauce ... just very oily and not too appealing. Only lost a star due to high prices. I understand this is CA, rent is high, quality ingredients are expensive and retaining good staff is important, but I'd be interested to see what their mark ups are cause each dish is wildly more expensive than you'd think. Aside from that, the food was very, very tasty. We got the chicken, steak poivre, escargot, endive salad, burger, french onion soup, and pistou pasta. First time having escargot and it was delicious. French onion soup was godly, the burger was my favorite though, wish I didn't have to share it haha. Here's the kicker though, the fries are recreated McDonald's fries, no lie and they were amazing.
