I am describing my experiences as a mail order customer. My experiences with Petrossian have been as the unlucky recipient of a styrofoam cooler filled with broken glass from wholly unprotected, loose bottles of truffle products, and as the unfortunate purchaser of a Christmas gift gone figuratively sour. My first encounter in 2023 was when a loved one sent me a Petrossian surprise, but it was not the surprise he intended. Petrossian neglected to carefully wrap the three glass items separately to protect them from each other. The three glass items were placed together into a single bubble wrap bag, and the bag was placed into a much larger boxed styrofoam cooler. The jar of truffled chocolate items arrived smashed. Pulverized glass shards coated the interior of the bubble bag, and presented an unpleasant surprise hazard to me as I eagerly reached into my Petrossian package. Not only did the truffled almonds get destroyed, but pulverized glass shards coated the fleur de sel and the truffle soy sauce; glass shards were stuck to the sticky reverse side of the fleur de sel label, and also made their way into the underside of the jar lid. Glass shards also stuck into the plastic seal of the truffles soy sauce lid. Luckily, nobody was hurt. Needless to say, this is not the high-quality experience my friend intended for me to have from Petrossian. I requested a well-packaged replacement for these three items, and Petrossian did follow through with a full and appropriate replacement. The customer service email indicated that my loved one's and my experience had been "completely unacceptable." Note: This was two and a half years ago. It transpired nowhere near a peak holiday season. Believing Petrossian that our gift exchange experience had been a fluke, I placed a holiday order on Thursday. I chose only non-perishable items, I paid their mandatory $29 shipping for a today non-perishable delivery, I selected the "require signature for delivery" option, and I went about my life, secure that my loved one would receive his items before leaving for the Christmas holiday. After all, he only lives in Manhattan...what could go wrong? Tuesday, the promised delivery date, I received an email from Petrossian customer support: "We greatly apologize that we have to inform you that there has been an issue with your order. It appears there was a glitch in our system and your order was not processed to be shipped for delivery Monday, December 22, 2025 as you requested. "For this inconvenience, we would like to upgrade your 2-day shipping to priority overnight shipping at no additional charge to you. We would like to make sure your order arrives in time for Christmas and can have it delivered tomorrow, Wednesday, December 24, 2025 or a future date at your convenience. "Please respond to this email confirming what date you would like your order to be delivered." It is what it is. Things happen. As I was preparing to respond to Petrossian's email, I noticed that Petrossian had simply gone ahead and dispatched the order without my express instructions on what delivery date would be adequate at this point. My loved one is on holiday now. Oh well, it's Christmas, and apparently attention to detail is nowhere to be found at Petrossian this time of year. He'll just pick up the FedEx tag and sign it when he gets back, right? Wrong. In their zeal to deliver as subpar and experience as possible, Petrossian failed to require a signature at delivery. Several things in life are assured: death, taxes, and a freshly-delivered package sprouting wings and flying away the second it hits a city doorstep. Christmastime or no. Of course, no representatives were available to take my call or to respond to my email on the eve of their last work day before a major holiday. Yelp is open 24/7. This duo of negative customer experiences has been frustrating and unacceptable to receive from a luxury goods business. As everyone but Petrossian seems to know, when purchasing luxury goods, one is really paying for a smooth, seamless, elevated experience start to finish. You can rest assured that I will never visit or order from Petrossian again. Fish eggs and fungi aren't difficult to source from a reputable purveyor. read more

We tried 3 different types and ended up choosing 2. I learned that the more mature the caviar, the less potent it is and less firm. - Royal Daurenki: this was the firmest and I liked the texture. Caveat: this review is based solely for orders made through the Petrossian website. I have yet to check experiencing the boutique in person off my to do list. Over the years I have only ever enjoyed the highest quality of gourmet products from Petrossian and received great praise for every item gifted to others. Every single last bite has been superb, with the items that arrived being perfectly packaged and in great condition. It has been a bit disappointing to consistently have items I have bookmarked to try remain out of stock. Though we have to be understanding of supply issues as we continue to make our way through the pandemic, particularly for items which require import. That shared, it is quite disappointing to have an item missing from an order, especially when the order is curated for the board I have pictured. Unexpected stocking issues happen and are reasonable; we adjust and move on. Though it added to the already tarnished view I was developing when there was no refund processed to my card for the missing item or email notifying me that I would not receive part of the order. I noted developing tarnish since, when ordering items at this price point, I think it is beyond reasonable to expect responsive customer service. It is understandable that phone customer service may be delayed and unavailable depending on staffing when you call. It is not understandable to have two voicemails left weeks apart go unanswered (including simply looking up the order number left on the voicemail and emailing the customer if phone service is not available) or to have to send three emails before receiving a response. At this point, I will certainly consider ordering again for myself, though I may hesitate if curating a gift delivery for someone with particular tastes. With one more nod to being understanding of the issues many businesses are still working to overcome, what Petrossian is meant to be is in the name: a boutique experience. That comes with the expectation of excellence in all executed areas. Here's to Petrossian's success in fine tuning the areas in need of improvement and maintaining the excellence of their products. read more

This review is just for the croissants. I've tried them twice (in Sept 2017 and July 2018), and both times they were very greasy (even compared to other croissants), and moreover the insides had huge hollows. I definitely agree with the other review saying that the pastries are "very oily" as I have experienced this on both of my visits. I don't know if I just happened to get unlucky on the days I visited, but the chances of this happening on two visits several months apart seem pretty slim, and I would hope for consistent quality at a place like this. On the plus side, they have a good butter flavor and are pretty flaky. 2.5/5 for plain croissants. I've also tried the almond croissant once (last September). It was on the inexpensive side ($3.75) and is less heavy than most traditional almond croissants, with a small amount of not-too-sweet marzipan-like filling. In my opinion this was better than the plain croissant here, but I don't think I would get it again. It's still a good option for a lighter croissant with a touch of almond though, if you don't mind the greasiness. read more

Oh this sweet little nook of a cafe, stopped in for breakfast w/ my sister sat in a comfortable booth. This Parisian style cafe was cute our server was wonderful he gave us the beat service. I had the Petrossian Continental bfast, which includes a free pastry so I had to have a light buttery delicious croissant w/ my egg whites, smoked salmon, and a slice of tasty bacon. This was nothing short of fulfilling & amazing. sis had the French toast sandwich w/ egg and bacon stuffed between two large slices of French toast sprinkled w/ powdered sugar and a vey hot, hot chocolate. This cafe is open early morning, and located near Carnegie Hall. The inside is not big, but rather small and narrow. The staffs here are mostly friendly and welcoming. At this place, you can either purchase some gourmet food items, or baked goods to go, or dine in for breakfast and lunch in the back. We were lucky enough to get a table at the back dining area, which is really small. They have around five tables or so, if you get there during busy hours, you might not get to be seated right away. We placed our breakfast order with our server, and then I walked towards the entrance to look at their decadent desserts in the window showcase. They didn't have a name, description or price of the items, but the female staff at the bakery section came over to help me. She told me what they were with a smile, and when I picked one, she offered to bring it over to my table. The dessert, a gigantic cream puff, was really amazing! Love it from the first bite to the last... For main, we had SFT and Eggs Benedict. The Stuffed French Toast was really large and tasty, pretty well done. Eggs Benedict on the other hand was rather disappointing. The smoked salmon was not that good. It didn't have much flavor. The egg was cooked nicely, but then I was also thinking "where is the hollandaise sauce?" At the end, our waiter brought us a small cup with their homemade hot chocolate sample! It was really nice, I really enjoyed that, and made up for my disappointing Eggs Benedict just a little bit. Overall, it was a nice breakfast, SFT was good, and the dessert was excellent. Wow!!! I absolutely love this place! The Petrossian Boutique is located at 911 7th Avenue and features Petrossian's renowned caviar, foie gras, and smoked fish. They also offer pastries and tarts. They also have table service for breakfast, lunch or a quick bite. It's a shame their restaurant next door closed--they had the most decadent and opulent interior and incredible food! The building that houses (and housed) their 2 locations is s Rococco-gone-wild building that has to be seen to be believed. read more

It was 9:00AM on a Tuesday and I walked into a practically empty cafe. The tables were in the back of the boutique. I ordered the stuffed savory brioche French toasts. The scrambled eggs were perfectly done and the bacon was properly crispy. The maple syrup countered the saltiness quite well. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. We walked past this quaint bakery on the way to Central Park and said we would stop in on the way back. Well we had to cut our walk through Central Park shirt do to the high winds and rain. We stopped in here for more tea and a chocolate cookie and danish. No self control since we are on vacation. The tea we both chose was Tante Irina (bitter orange with citrus fruits) which was very good. It hit the spot. Not a whole lot of tables, but it's NY and it's s boutique cafe. We had an amazing breakfast here. Our party of 4 was immediately seated. Our orders were placed and then you just relax. If you are in a hurry, then this is not the place for you. Our coffee was very good and was served in a pot for 2. The breakfast was slow to arrive, but everything was delicious. The French toast is like a sandwich with 2 pieces surrounding egg and bacon with syrup and butter on top. Our smoked salmon was wonderful, served with a fresh baked bagel, cream cheese, capers , tomato and red onion. Everything tasted amazing. I enjoyed this place so much on our trip to New York, we went here twice for breakfast. Thank you yelpers for clueing me in on this place. What a great find. The front of this cafe is bakery and caviar counters. You can pop in and get some pastries to go, or you can take a seat in the back of the cafe and have a wonderful light meal. We sat down both times and had lovely meals. The service was very good and quite fast. I had the croque monsieur which was absolutely delicious. My husband loved his breakfast sandwich thing he had. We couldn't pass up the pastries, so we took chocolate croissants to go both times. They were flaky light and delicious. The first day our croissants made the perfect snack while waiting in line at The Daily Show. The second set made a perfect snack while sitting in Central Park. This bakery is just steps away from the south end of Central Park. I highly recommend getting some baked goods to go and enjoying them in the park. Come early otherwise you're bound to be sad that they've sold out of what you were looking for. It is definitely slim pickings by end of day. The only thing is while you stand and wait you're right where all the goodies are... *Petrossian breakfast: smoked salmon (melts in your mouth with just the right saltiness), scrambled eggs (fluffly and moist), crispy bacon (really, it's crispy), jam, toast points, orange juice and coffee (you can go for tea if you dont like coffee). Coffee was nice and strong and is served in a small carafe along with steamed milk. *Pain perdue: homemade bread dipped in flavored egg mixture (really fluffy), scrambled eggs (yummy fluff), crispy apple smoked bacon, maple syrup, jam (tasty on the pain perdue) and coffee. Per the menu, batter has a hint of Grand Marnier. This looked small coming out but was filling. Service is not super fast but we had no issues. I really like the beautiful building and currently they're under renovation. The display of pastries and baked goods look beautiful and tasty. There is very limited seating; so make sure not to come during peak hours. Service is friendly and attentive. EGGS BENEDICT- english muffin, smoked salmon, and hollandaise sauce I was disappointed with this dish because I was expecting something extravagant like those beautiful baked goods on display, but this was such a simple dish. The hollandaise was very creamy and thick, which coated the english muffin, which was crisp, and the smoky salmon. Overall, this dish wasn't worth the price. It was too simple even with the side of greens. BORSCHT SOUP This beet soup was sweet and earthy. I really liked it, but it was nothing special. Just the typical beet soup. APPLE TURNOVER This was my favorite dish of the meal. I loved the sweet pieces of apple and the soft inside with the crispy skin. It tasted so warm and fruity. I would definitely order this again. I wouldn't come back per se, but I would like to try the pastries. I wouldn't eat lunch or dinner there, but the baked goods look more promising. read more

We had just run an errand near Central Park and were hungry. I saw that I had added Petrossian to my bookmarks at some point. No additional discussion was needed. We were going to just grab some pastries to go, but there's a little upstairs cafe beyond the rows of caviar and baked goods, so we ended up having a little sit down. We sampled:- Almond croissant: This was damn near perfect. Featuring a flaky, buttery crust, a moist, slightly chewy center, and just the right amount of sweet, nutty almond paste on the bottom of the croissant. I noticed that the croissant actually seemed to retain some moisture within the flaky crust layers. Eating this was actually a bit of a a euphoric experience. Apricot danish: Actually tasted pretty similar to the almond croissant, but with big slices of apricots and pistachios! I swear that this had almond paste in it, as well. Salmon on a bagel with cream cheese: This was pretty bare bones, and we were not provided with a lot of salmon. But the salmon itself was clearly very fresh. If you're looking for the full NYC bagel experience, this isn't really the place for you, but it's good if you want to focus on the fish. Orange juice: the large was actually quite massive, but it didn't taste fresh squeezed. Cafe latte: The coffee is not a highlight here. It was okay, but tasted a little bit burnt. Overall, I'd give the experience a 3.5, rounded up because of the awesomeness of the pastries. Perhaps some day I'll come back and try the caviar. read more

A tiny space in a beautiful building primarily focusing on every variation of croissants, caviar (real stuff) and teas. I can attest that Borscht tastes as authentic as you can get it. Smoked salmon salad is fresh and delicious and a side of ricotta cheese - a great idea for a bit of extra savory protein. But you are not here for protein, but for the impossibly flaky chocolate croissant or apricot danish (I guess bit of ricotta makes it a danish, but it is the same buttery dough). Blueberry tea proved a great complement for all of the above. We sat at tiny tables fitting in just as tiny and cozy elevated area overseeing the counters. Checked out the rows of precious caviar jars on the way out. If $150+ price tags on those are not in the stars today, can always grab a pastry to go - your day will be better for it. read more

In search for sweet baked goodies during my break, I had an impulse for Petrossian Boutique. While browsing the many confections and luxurious chocolates in this boutique, I opt for a petits tart priced at a whopping $7.50. The petits tart's flakely crust is exactly the equalivent to a Chinese Dahn Tat, but with overflowing toppings of strawberries, crème anglaise, plus more. Disappointedly there were no muffins, eclairs, or a good selection of baked bread or buns. Since I am unable to journey to Paris, Petrossian brings the French flair to New York where founded in 1920. In true Parisian fashion, I believe, Petrossian Boutique & Cafe's outdoor seating should be set-up facing the street. Extremely overpriced even for the boutique and cafe as oppose to the mother entity restaurant. read more

A visit to Petrossian was a must for me during my last NYC trip. I went through this weird caviar phase where I would buy small tins from various suppliers and try to decipher which was best. Petrossian is a well known name in the game, so naturally it was on my list. This is a great spot for a quick in and out pastry for a Central Park snack. We ended up dining in and sat in a tiny dining area, passed the pastry display cases. I was on a mission to focus on the caviar, the star, paired with pâté and smoked salmon. The sampling was great. My co-travelers ordered a more traditional brunch, French toast, eggs Benedict, etc. Quality was on par with most brunch spots for those dishes. Although, I appreciate the brand for caviar, the dining experience itself seemed like an after thought. That may be the case, so I'll stick with the quick stops, moving forward. read more

I never really give second chance to any place, with only a few exceptions. Petrossian let me down the first time and I honestly prefer not to revisit; we decided to come eventually as my friend wanted to give a try. Another bad experience that completely ruined my Saturday. Food was ok - I got my Cobb salad, how can you mess up with something that what you only needed to do was to slice the tomato and put the romaine into a bowl? Service was non-existence. The only thing we were doing was waiting. Waited for our food, and waited for the check. Clearly someone being seated after us got the food for the whole table and what we got were only two glasses of water. I honestly did not understand what was taking that long to prepare my salad and my friend's yogurt. Are you waiting for the vegetable to grow from the ground, or are you waiting for the cow to produce the dairy? Waiting for our check was another "highlight" of our meal. We patiently sat for 20 minutes before I lost patience and decided to take a look at what was going on. Apparently our waitress was talking happily with another waitress at the counter without doing any work, let alone preparing for our check. When I raised my voice and asked for our check, I clearly observed some unwillingness expressed on her face. Thank god I eventually got my bill and was able to escape from the place. Whoever does not pay enough respect and care to her clients does not deserve my gratitude. This is my last visit to this place in my life, period. read more

I don't understand why it's so hard to find good pain au chocolat here for any price when you can go to a grocery store in France and get a great pastry for $1. It's one of life's great mysteries. During my quick trip to NY, my bf and I came here for breakfast before heading over to Central Park. It was a bit difficult to find as what we thought was the main entrance was locked and we had to find our way around the side of the building to get in. Once we were inside though, we were immediately seated. The bakery is very small with an even smaller upstairs dining area. There was only one server working, so everything was a little slow. For being the only server, she did an amazing job. I ordered the lobster salad which had big chunks of chilled lobster and was layered with fine caviar and creamy avocado. It was served with warm crostini. The entire dish was sooooo heavenly and decadent! I loved it so much! My boyfriend got their french toast sandwich, which was served with apple slices. He said that he enjoyed it. I thought it was only okay compared to my amazing dish. Overall, this little bakery is fantastic. I wish I had more room in my stomach to try some of their pastries. If you do end up here, however, please try their lobster salad! You can thank me later! read more

This review is strictly for the plain croissants. I became obsessed with finding the perfect croissant in NYC, because there are too many sad croissants that have been allowed to exist. A croissant, should not simply be layers of flat tasteless bread-carb formed into the shape of a crescent moon.... the croissant actually tastes butter-forward, fragrant from the nice browning it received in the oven. When you bite into the perfect croissant, your skin tingles at the light crispy exterior and sings with joy when you chew further and explore the soft, pillowy, chewy interior. The apricot tart was excellent. The pastry shell was flaky and buttery while the taste of the fruit was more pronounced than one normally encounters. The canelle has a very crisp and caramelized crust in the outside and a hint of the distinctive liquor flavor inside. As important as the superb quality of the baked goods is the fact that the storefront is housed in one of the greatest works of architecture in the city. Everything is great except the wait... There's only been a handful of times that I had waited for a table over 30mins (50mins to be exact and there were only two people in front of us when we arrived). This place was one of those and it was worth it. The minus one star is purely due to the slow service and long wait time. If you just wanted a croissant or some bread, grab and go is the best. The food is fantastic (if you like seafood). The caviar lobster salad is delicious and I couldn't recommend it more. It would probably be the best to keep the toasted sliced baguette as a good matching pair. However I wanted the croissant so bad that I had to swap it. It's probably one of the best croissant you can get in NYC. read more

A precious little place right outside of Central Park. When you walk in, there are pastries to the left and meat to the right. If you keep going and head up the stairs you'll find some seating and you can seat yourself. It's very small though, so very limited seating. But the staff were friendly, the coffee was hot, and the food was delicious! Would definitely come back if I'm ever back in NYC. read more

Delicious pastries at a reasonable price! Hubby and I came in for breakfast pastries twice during our stay. We tried the apricot and raspberry danish, and the pain au chocolate. I wished I had been able to try the apple turnover too because it looked great. Next time! read more

THEY NO LONGER SERVE BREAKFAST. If you are coming here for the French toast, like I did, don't bother. About a week ago they changed the menu and got rid of all breakfast items. They don't serve anything with eggs. Had to settle for an overpriced slice of bread with duck on it and a couple of leaves sprinkled on the side. ($21) A couple of people walked in and walked right out after sitting down and realizing they could no longer get some of their past favorites.
