I love the concept of Phia, being able to book with different level stylists that will be matched up to your budget. Initially I was a bit worried I'd get someone who was very inexperienced and would jack my hair allll up! You get what you pay for... typically. My appointment was booked with Lila and she gave me an entire head of highlights and this amazing cut I wanted! On top of what you go in and book an appointment for, they give you complimentary services, I picked the head and shoulder massage... I would have gone home happy after just that!! She took her time, which I appreciated because I feel most stylists are in a rush, and on each and every foil she made sure she got as close to the root as possible... which is MAJOR points in my book!!! I feel for the amount of time, foils, bleach, and cut I paid a very fair price! I would definitely recommend Phia and recommend Lila even more!!! read more

Katy specifically (who is a new talent but I assume not for long because of how great of a job she did) helped me get rid of a bad dye job from another salon, and it was absolutely amazing. I waited some time before writing this review because I wanted to review the big picture. I did leave the salon with a lock of hair I had to trim off, but let me explain the circumstances. If you want just the opinion, skip to the last section of this review. First exposure to Phia my hubby won me a free brow wax. It was simple, quick, easy, and I got a good vibe of the place. I came back another time to schedule a haircut and it was busy, but I got a bad vibe... sensed some unwelcomeness, so I left. Fast forward a year or so at gallery hop they had moved a couple doors down and were advertising discounted haircuts. On the day of, my scheduled stylist called off sick. The staff was polite and professional, offering to reschedule or try to fit me in. When I opted to cancel because I wasn't sure if I wanted to get a cut there anymore, they called back offering me a master level stylist who would honor my discount later that night. It was the last appointment of the day and the door was locked, and no one inside would make eye contact with me. I called (no, I didn't want to knock on the glass door) and turned out the door sometimes lock itself. Once inside, I find that my stylist was double booked and exhausted appearing (I would be, too)... BUT she was honest, professional, pleasant, and she took the time to ask me how I wanted my hair, took notes, looked at pictures, and offered her suggestions. Even during the cut she made comments about changes to make my hair fall a certain way. She managed and styled another client's head at the same time with her lovely assistant going back and forth between us. I was impressed. She was quick and sure, and appeared very comfortable while cutting. When I got home, my husband pointed out missed strands of hair in the back I had not noticed right after the cut. One tiny lock was 4" longer than the surrounding hair. I thought it was funny so I posted it as a tip. It was easy to cut off... and the overall big picture is... ...I absolutely LOVE my haircut. It falls in nice ways even with minimal product/styling... just as she told me, with suggestions how to style it. I would take this cut with the missed lock in the back over a "perfect" boring cut. This is up there with some of my favorite cuts... it's like it has its own personality, if that makes any sense. The reason this salon does not get a perfect 5 is the inconsistent vibes I get at different occasions... ranging from feeling ignored to professional and welcoming. If I were reviewing just Annah, she would get 6 stars because she is a GENIUS! read more

I love Phia and always tell my friends they should go there, too. I moved to Columbus about a year ago and found it because a friend of mine who had great hair loved it too. My stylist is Kelly, and she is great with long hair and layers. When we first met, she realized how stressed out I was about sitting in the chair of someone new and she said "I know, your hair is sometimes the ONLY thing in your control"...from there I knew she understood how important it was to me that the job was done right. She knows how to preserve long hair, layer it, and find styles that go well with long hair. I used to be the type of person that always brought in a picture so my hair dresser didn't give me something I want - but I don't have to do that with Kelly, because she's really good at looking at my current style, other styles, and communicating what is to be changed. On top of that, she gives me complimentary services every once in a while like a facial or deep conditioning, which were absolutely great. Also, most of the time when I get my hair cut by her, she teaches me something new about styling, which I absolutely love. I'm very satisfied with the Aveda products that I'm using, as a result of complimentary treatments I've received in the store. I'd say, bottom line, if you need someone who will communicate with you about what you want with your hair, and will pay careful attention to giving you what you want, and spend extra time to make sure you're getting a good experience -- go to Phia, and especially Kelly. read more

I've been getting my haircut here for the past year, and love it! I am a college student and was able to find the right price range for my cut (they offer different bands so you are able to find a dresser who fits your price range easily.) Being offered a drink when you get in is always nice, and they give you a choice of free scalp massage or mini facial with your haircut which is awesome! Go see Rania! I had several recommendations to try out this salon in Columbus, OH. However, am incredibly disappointed with the outcome of my hair coloring appointment and overall service. I showed my stylist, Rachel, a picture of the hair I wanted (image on left) but received a color that was entirely brassy/Orange, and overall not what I had asked for at all (image on right). I had asked half way through the session how it was looking to receive the response "well it's orange". While washing my hair, Rachel walked to the back of the salon multiple times gossiping about the outcome of my hair to her peers in a panic after mentioning that she wouldn't be able to accommodate me further today if my dissatisfactory was true. After being incredibly upset because I am a student and can rarely afford to dye my hair as it is, I express that the color was not what I had asked for at all and even asked to speak to a manager. I spoke to Kelly who could only encourage me to book another appointment another day in hope to fix my hair. She even mocked me by saying "is that what you're defining as caramel". I expressed that I would appreciate some sort of dissatisfactory discount in order for me to get my hair fixed somewhere else. This was one of the best salon experiences I have had in a really long time. After many years of living outside of Columbus, I was back and in desperate need of a good haircut. One of my friends referred me to Phia, however she had only heard good things and hadn't been there herself. Not knowing much else about the salon, I decided to give it a try. Making an appointment online was super easy and I was able to come in the very next day. My stylist Jess was so nice and talented and she gave me the perfect haircut, even though I was pretty vague about what exactly I was going for. She understood my hair and how to control it -it's very, very thick; most hairstylists get instantly overwhelmed. When I sat down, Jess told me that I had the option of getting a complimentary scalp massage, shoulder and arm massage, or mini-facial. I opted for the mini-facial. It was so relaxing. My mother, sister, and I decided to try this salon after our stylist moved away. I can honestly say that this is the absolute best experience that we have ever had while getting our hair cut. Right off of the bat, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. When I called to ask about setting up an appointment, they wanted to know what type of hair I had so that I could be set up with the right stylist. Once this had been done, I got a text from my stylist introducing herself and wanting to talk about my hair, current style, and what I would want my hair to look like. When I showed up for my first appointment, my stylist spent a good twenty minutes talking to me and explaining how she planned to cut my hair. Before a pair of scissors came anywhere near my hair, she had me sign a piece of paper saying that I was okay with what our plan was. I really felt like I was being listened to, and that I had her full attention. My hair came out looking exactly like I wanted it to, and I was thrilled. This is by far the best salon I have ever gone to, and every time since then has gone just as well. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a new place to get their hair cut. Nightmare. The worst haircut I have ever had. I call it a reverse neo-mullet. Bad curly haircut in the back, lame, straight, long haircut in the front. They used tons of product which took several wash & conditions to remove. I've tried working it several ways nothing improves it. It looks like some nightmare from the late 70s early 80s in an "I love REO Speedwagon/Journey' kind of way. Or, think David Cassidy with a bad perm. It's wrong in so many ways. I have a nice head of hair that with a good cut is usually quite manageable and easy. This has completely altered my daily hair experience. What a nightmare. And the color? Way, way too dark. Not what I wanted, expected or asked for. I spent a lot of money and I'm going to go back to just get it altered to something bland so it can grow out and I can start again. I'm just going to have to live with the color. They push products a lot, and I had to wait a half hour past my appt time, which I did not appreciate. It also irks me that they call me a guest. No one invited me in ( guests are invited). I am a customer -someone who pays for a service - who made a very bad decision. I only hope they have the decency to fix this horrendous thing on my head. read more

Had my first hair cut in 2 years there. When scheduling the appointment I told the individual what he/she would be working with. The scheduler was very attentive to my concern and I ended up having a great experience. The stylist listened to everything I said and I trusted her expertise. I allowed a complete stranger to cut years of growth off of my complicated hair and she did not let me down. the experience begins when you walk in. they will offer you tea, coffee, or water while you wait. then your stylist will come get you and you can discuss what you want to have done. there's no rush. you get your haircut and then get a shampoo and neck/scalp/face massage which is def the best part of the whole experience. i started going to Phia approx 1 year ago. i had never gone to a "spa" before. my first stylist was kelly and she is AWESOME. i've never gone to anyone else there. i've sent a bunch of my friends to phia and they've all loved it even with other people. the best thing about the place is that it feels like spa but not TOO MUCH like a spa. it's relaxing, but you will see some interesting characters there. definitely go here if you want a cool haircut. i would recommend kelly since she is who i go to, but i think everyone who works there is pretty skilled. the only reason i give the place 4 stars instead of 5 is that the seating area in the lobby really sucks. they need to clear the area up and put some cool leather sofas there. read more

I'm 100% Aveda, have been for years. I found Phia to be very professional. The salon was pretty crowded, but clean and the ambiance was very nice. Since it was my first visit, my stylist Meagan and I talked for about 5 min where she asked me what look I was going for, how I styled my hair, the products I use...etc. I really like this as she knew pretty much exactly what I wanted before the cutting even started. During the cut Meagan asked me questions both about my hair and just socially. She was super nice and we totally hit it off. You have the option of a mini facial, mini massage and 1 other thing I can't remember. At the end of the cut, I was 100% satisfied with how I looked, and I've already booked my next appointment with Meagan. The price was very reasonable. This place was a little good, but so much bad that I don't want to step foot in there again. I first went to Jessica to get my super thick, not terribly long hair cut into an asymmetrical bob. She seemed afraid to cut it and took 3 hours and I walked out with a round helmet of hair that wasn't textured or thinned at all. I went back and Steven, one of the senior stylists fixed it and it was the coolest hair cut I have had in a couple years. *****Steven is the ONLY reason to try this place, pay the extra $ for a senior stylist***** Because I was so happy with Steven, I go back requesting someone who is great with short cuts. Instead of recommending a senior stylist, they recommended a girl who ignored my picture and description and cut my hair into a super short frizzy, damaged looking mohawk with no style. I expressed my unhappiness and they said I could come back into have it fixed when it grew out. I did, and subsequently was given a horrible Justin Beiber haircut by yet another stylist (I should have demanded Steven). I have had two fantastic experiences here and one not so fantastic. It is all about the stylist. I first came after moving here from Chicago and looking for a salon that would do a good job, because I am very very picky about my hair. The stylist was fantastic, I was impressed that they get you something to drink, consult with you, and lay out pricing up front, and you get a small mini-service (I always choose facial) while you are getting shampooed. It was literally the best hair cut and experience I had in my life up to that point. She also did my eyebrows, and they were fantastic as well. My second visit was not so great. I had booked with an upper level stylist, but when I came in they offered me a $17 haircut by someone trying to 'move up' a level, so I agreed. Mistake. She wasn't experienced enough to know how to deal with my hair (very fine, weird wave patterns in the back...etc) and I was not very happy with the cut. I also called in between my second and third visit to schedule an appointment and found the receptionist rude, but this had never happened to me before or since, so I will give that person the benefit of the doubt and guess they were having a bad day. I went to another salon in town because I was upset by this and didn't like my haircut, so I ended up going back to Phia. I recently went back to my original stylist and had cut, color and eyebrows done, and again, FANTASTIC experience. My advice, this place is great, go online and read the bios of the stylists and find one you think you would like and stick with the same person. They will be as loyal to you as you are to them, my stylist checks in with me to see what we are doing at my next appointment if she sees me on the schedule and she checks in to see how things are going within a week to make sure I don't want any adjustments. Let me start by saying that I come from a family of stylist so I am VERY picky about who touches my hair. On that note I am on my 4th appointment at Phia and will not go anywhere else! When I walked in the first time I was put with Ross and had a picture of what I wanted. He did a full consultation about what I normally do to my hair, how often I color it, etc (I have never had anyone ask). He took the time to ask me what I did and didn't like about the cut and if I wanted anything changed. He also took the time to explain that my hair wouldn't lay the same due to the picture being a movie wig and told me EXACTLY what he was going to do so it would look how I wanted. After complaining about my color fading quickly he offered some suggestion to make it last and showed me some of their products without pushing them. On my 2nd trip He was running a little behind and asked a free stylist to wash my hair so I didn't have to wait. He did a mini-consultation about how I was styling my hair, what products I was using, and if I liked how it had grown out. He tweaked the original haircut based on what I didn't like with my regrowth. When I decided to let it grow out he explained that he was going to cut it differently so that it would grow out more evenly and not have that awkward length. I have yet to have a bad experience with Phia and have had so many compliments on my new cut. I won't be going anywhere else! read more

Phia is a wonderful salon! I go to college in Ohio, and usually do not trust anyone with my hair but this one salon from my home state. That being said, Phia was on par, if not better than, my usual salon. The place is a little crowded, and they're busy, so I would advise not making an appointment for a day when you are super busy, especially if you book with one of the more in-demand stylists. All of their workers were polite and friendly. They all seemed efficient and well-trained. I have type 2 b curly hair, and I booked with Gendalay (I am probably not spelling her name right!). She was a very cool woman who suggested a good cut for me. She gave me a long (slightly past chin-length) bob that was angled asymmetrically (her suggestion-I wanted something that would be a good short-to-long transition cut that was still interesting, not boring). It looked wonderful. They carried a good selection of Aveda products, which are pretty high-quality. My only complaint about the product selection was that, from what I saw, there was not a lot of products that were silicone and SLS-free, which isn't good news for curlies. That being said, Gendalay and her co-worker both helped me diagnose my problems with moisture-my hair needed protein. They recommended a product that was OK for curly hair (it has a tiny amount of dimethcone in it, which I am cool with), good for moisture, and contained protein. It also conferred a little bit of heat protection, as I sometimes blow-dry. I really, really love it, and I feel like it worked. They have the best "first time" deal I have ever seen from a salon-go to their website and you can get something like $25 off your first visit. It's insane. You can tell from their website that Phia tries to accommodate all budgets. I think they do a very good job. I want to return for a touch up. I went in late October (about two months ago), and I should have gone back before Christmas break. However, my hair cut still looks fine. It held its shape, which is a testament to the quality of the cut. I highly recommend Phia for getting a hair cut. The only downside was the wait time, but if you are forewarned about this, it shouldn't be a problem. It was worth it for the quality and attention I received. Price shouldn't be an issue, as they have a range of stylist experiences and I feel assured that their lower-ranking stylists are still very good for their prices. read more

This was my first time at Phia Salon, and I was pretty pleased :) I was nervous going in, as I hadn't had a professional cut my hair in about two years (yikes!) so I was feeling really anxious about being judged for my complete lack of hair care, but Sabrina made the whole experience kinda fun - she was really cool & easy to talk to. We had a good talk beforehand and she made sure I was comfortable going forward with the service itself (I was cutting off over six inches of hair) and the price breakdown before we even got started, so there was no surprise with $$ at the end of the day. It was just a simple cut, no color, but I left the salon feeling pretty awesome! They are really accommodating with their scheduling - my appointment was at 8pm on a Sunday, which is pretty impossible to get at most salons. Everyone was really friendly and made me feel welcome, and I am not a super-cool hip young female, so I can't co-sign the reviews saying that this place is snobby. When I first walked in, I was offered tea (which I was meaning to ask them what it was, because it was fantastic) and was taken to the back almost right away to get started. Our consultation before the service was the longest and most in-depth I have ever received before a hair service, so they really go out of their way to make sure you know and approve of what is about to take place. As expected, they do try to sell you various products while you're there, but I didn't mind so much because I was in the market for a new shampoo anyway, so I got a shampoo & conditioner while I was there. I'm a little concerned that the conditioner I purchased has a silicone product listed as the second ingredient (!!) but I'll give it a whirl - my hair naturally sucks on its own, and my current routine obviously isn't working, so it can't make it that much worse lol. Parking was VERY difficult - I was late for my appointment trying to find a meter on high st, so leave early and make time to find a spot. I didn't think it would be that bad on a Sunday night, but I had to park pretty far away past the Union Cafe/bar. My first experience at Phia was just awful. I had a partial highlight done and it was as if my stylist (who will remain unnamed because she's extremely nice, but was maybe just having an off day?) put all my highlights in one spot on the top of my head. Really awful outcome. I was assigned to a new stylist, though. This salon tries hard to retain your business if things don't work out with one stylist. I respect this. I was assigned to Annah and went in last night for a redo. Because of the holidays, polar vortex and scheduling, it was tough to get in, but Annah worked hard to find me an opening. Annah is a take charge kind of stylist, which I like. She has ideas and works hard to make sure to explain them to you. She did fix my color so it was no longer the embarrassing mess it was, but I kind of feel like I'm back to square one with my hair, when I've shelled out $150 and it basically looks like it did when I came in the first time. I appreciated the redo and think it looks at least normal now, but I think they should have offered to redo the partial highlights since that's what I Initially paid for. Anyway, I will go back and I highly recommend Annah. She is funny, talented and professional. read more

Location is great and the front desk staff are very courteous, but the environment on the inside is very dated and needs a hygienic makeover. If you do decide to go in, be aware of cleanliness standards. Their waxpot is covered in dirt and looks like it's never been cleaned. I've never experienced any of the hair services but if the cleanliness of the salon is a barometer for the sanitation and level of care one would expect from a "high-end" salon, I can safely assume you (and I) should spend our money elsewhere. read more

Fast, Flexible, Trustworthy. I have been going to Phia for a little over a year now and I wouldn't go anywhere else except for their sister salon Philosophi. I spent many years trying to find a stylist to get my color correct and it wasn't until I started coming here that I finally found someone who nailed it, it feels good when the stylist understands what you're looking for. My schedule is hectic at times and they have always been very flexible and accommodating to my schedule. I also have hardly ever had to wait for service when I arrive and the staff is very attentive and I love the tea! My only complaints would be things that they cannot really control like parking which can be difficult sometimes and the place can feel slightly cramped when it gets busy. They do make an effort to make these things better as much as they can and I appreciate that. A heads up to new comers would be to make sure you allow yourself enough time to get here so you're stay is less stressful. Overall the pros out weigh the cons and I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a place that is attentive and listens to you, it's a relief. I also don't know any other places that offer sensory experiences and that is an excellent touch and will keep me coming back. read more

I first went to Phia last week to get highlights which I didn't end up loving. I spoke with the manager and got scheduled for a correction with Annah, their top stylist within days. Annah went out of her way to speak to me on the phone about my hair, text back and forth about what kind of look I was going for, and even came in to the other salon, Philosophi TWO hours before opening to fix my hair. She even had her babysitter come early so she could tend to my hair!!! I was at the salon for quite a while and Annah worked tirelessly to fix my hair and get the look I was going for. When I didn't love something about my hair towards the end, instead of making me feel bad or awkward she was so so kind and understanding and the fix was super easy. I walked out of the salon feeling so beautiful and so happy with my hair. The owner Elizabeth spoke to me on the phone before and after my hair was done and she super nice too. They really wanted me to love my hair, I've never had such amazing personalized service from any salon or pretty much any place in my entire life. Annah is amazingly talented and I will be going to her from now on! Oh and one thing I really love about Phia and Philosophi is that before anything is done to your hair, the stylist sits down with you and talks to you about what they'll be doing and breaks down the charges and tells you the exact cost of everything. With other salons sometimes you end up with sticker shock when the total is not what you anticipated because the stylist never bothers to tell you pricing.
