This was my first time at this location, having visited the midtown location. The dining area was more open then the other location. It was very nicely decorated. I ordered the watermelon mojitos which was really good! I had the chicken satay as an appetizer but tried the shrimp satay. The chicken satay was really good, no surprise there. The shrimp satay was just ok. The shrimps were a really good size but didn't have much flavor. Glad I ordered the chicken. For the entire I had the Filet Mignon, which came with green beans and I ordered a side of shrimp fried rice. I thought it was weird that the waiter didn't ask how I wanted it cooked but thankfully the Filet was cooked to perfection. The rice was delicious. For desert I tried the chocolate cake. I didn't like the miso caramel ice cream it came with the cake and raspberries were just enough. read more

I am usually leery about going to restaurants that have become cliches or overly popular but I went against my better judgment and booked what I thought would be a cool date night. I originally intended to take advantage of their restaurant week menu, but it wasn't offered at seating and we found other items on the menu we wanted to try. My husband and I would agree that we like to choose restaurants where the experience of the patron is what makes the restaurant. As we were getting started, the two parties on either side of us we wrapping up their meals and received warm towels to wipe their hands. It smelled lovely and I was already excited about it. The table to the left of us had a completely different server and the one to the right shared ours. The good: listen to the reviews about the lychee martini!! That might be my favorite drink. The ambience of the restaurant is also very nice. Needs Improvement: Our server was not super attentive to us, but clearly shared a lot in common with the table to the right of ours, offering them free shots and drinks after they received their towels. I was actually excited because it seemed like we had a waiter who was attentive to their guests. We are not people who make a big fuss out of things like that nor are we unkind to anyone in the service industry, so we were kind of puzzled by the difference in service we received. We weren't looking for freebies by a long shot, but it is a little hard not to compare your experience to others when the difference in treatment is right in your face. Philippe has a beautiful ambiance, and great service! In fact, my partner and I raved about our server, and a runner in particular who was awesome! We were frequently checked on without feeling pestered. I will say, the hostesses were dressed a little too club-like for my taste, for an establishment of this sort (shirt crop top, low rise pants?). We opted for the restaurant week deal which is a TON of food. My bf has quite an appetite generally, and didn't finish. I tend to have a smaller appetite, so it was a struggle lol. I don't generally care for American Chinese food, but this food wasn't bad. In my opinion, a lot of the sauces were a bit sweet for my taste, however I have a fairly low tolerance for sweets. We had: -shrimp satay -veggie lo mein -Beijing chicken -special prawns -veggie fried rice -green beans -red velvet cake (+ free ice cream on the side!) The drinks were stiff and very tasty. We both had lychee martinis, and additionally I had the Shanghai Philippe, and my guy am espresso martini. I enjoyed the experience, and can check it off of my list. read more

The food is overrated with the exception of a few. I came to this restaurant thinking I'd be wow'd by the impression of class and cuisine they were offering at this classy dining level. I want to say I was not impressed and even further to say I've had better else where for more affordable prices. I will say the Sweet & Sour Chicken and the Nine Season Prawn were the best out of our group's selection but everything else was merely mediocre and mundane. The classy experience was nice but the server didn't make it any extra enlightening or desirable with his service. He was bland (like some of the food) straight-nosed and to the point. Not a enjoyable experience to spice up the ambiance of the place. Not sure if it's a training thing but no smiles seem dull to me. Gratuity is already included in the parties check of 4 or more so maybe he felt he didn't have to put extra pizazz in his service but it would've been nice. I didn't have the opportunity try everything but the duck Spring rolls were disappointing and bland. The only thing that gave it flavor was the molasses like sauce it came with. The calamari was bland as well no flavor, the spicy sauce didn't even compliment well. The chicken noodles, TASTELESS! No flavor, just dry. After hearing about this restaurant for years, my friend and I decided to finally stop by. We came on a Thursday night and and I'd say the restaurant wasn't too busy. We ordered several things on the menu and I was pleased by them all. My favorites were the veggie lo mein, crispy beef, and the Filet Mignon was delicious and super tender. I wasn't wow'd by the chicken satay, which is what they are popularly known for but not a big deal. I did also try another popular staple on the menu which is their Lychee Martini...it was good but ehh I'd say a bit weak. I loved the little touches like the chop stick holder being a cute panda...and the infamous "Philippe" plates. Service was fast, which is what I also liked about dining here. I'd say its pretty on par with the other popular "high end" Chinese spots around the city. I'm not in a rush to return but the food was worth a visit if you havent been already. read more

I used to go here all the time, hadn't been in some time but came back in this weekend. Wow it's really gone down hill. I dk what is going on but the food quality was terrible!!! It tasted like dog food and frankly for the price that is unacceptable. Also, the cocktails used to slam but this time I see they changed some ingredients on some beloved classics and they really sucked!! Okay first off, this should be rated a 5 star restaurant, so do not be thrown off by the rating. Everything about this place screams elegance & luxury. The entrance is so fun, an escalator with incredible lights and you can start to hear the music from inside. Lots of cocktails to choose from. Great table set up, great service, great food! Everything we ordered was spectacular, we left so full and happy! The soup dumplings are divine, a must get! The crispy beef satay with peanut sauce, oh my, do not miss this, I could've ordered another one or two orders of these haha. The crispy duck egg rolls are so simple yet so delicious, and you get a little taste of the crispy peking duck they serve, and you will see a few times from your table as it is served to other tables. The sweet and sour chicken caught my eye as it kept getting ordered at nearby tables. I wouldn't consider it a must have but it is delicious. The Chilean sea bass was good, we wished we had ordered another beef dish since the appetizer was so good. The white rice is delicious. Came here for dinner the other night, and the meal started off well! We arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation, but were seated right away. Given it was a group meal, we ended up sharing a quite a few dishes: Scallion pancake - On the crispier side, these were super tasty! Some of the better scallion pancakes I've tried in the city! Vegetable lo mein & dumpling sampler - Very solid dishes, although I can't say that they were particularly unique. Still well-executed! Fried rice - Yum! I'm not usually a huge rice person, but I was a huge fan of this fried rice. Would actually order this again! Chilean sea bass - Probably my favorite entree of the night! The fish was very well-cooked, and I loved the black bean sauce in particular! Drunken sea bass - Super unique; liked how the sauce had a bit of a sweet kick. Kung Pao chicken - Props to Phillipe Chow; normally I've found that kung pao chicken at these types of restaurants are barely even a tiny bit spicy. These, however, had more than a bit of a kick to it - A+! Crispy duck - I don't eat duck so I can't say much regarding the flavor, but others at my table gave rave reviews! Fortune cookie red velvet cake - Given it's restaurant week, the kitchen first sent out the wrong size cake (as we had ordered a full size one and not the smaller one that comes with the restaurant week meal), but then sent out the correct one. So basically we got almost double the cake! The full sized one shined, as it had 3 layers of red velvet cake (vs 1) and 2 fortune cookies on top instead of 1! Great meal and service all around; my main complaint is that the music is very loud, so this probably isn't the place to go if you're looking to have a lot of conversation. This is the second time I've been to Phillipe and my first time at their location in the Meatpacking District. I've gone to the midtown location before. The ambiance at this location is a lot more trendier. We had reservations but our table was not quite ready yet and were offered the bar. A gentleman that was leaving was kind enough to give us his seats as he was leaving. We got lychee martinis as we waited, I opted to drink mine with gin. Super tasty! They add an extra ingredient and it definitely works, it has a bit of a creamy taste that I enjoyed. We waited for about fifteen minutes before we got sat. We started off with the chicken satay as an app and they were awesome. The sauce on them was delicious. For entrees, we did the crispy bass and house filet mignon with a side of steamed rice. The crispy bass was good but it lacked. Little flavor. The filet mignon was tasty. Portions were a decent size. I wasn't able to finish my food but I also have a bad habit of eating with my eyes lol. We opted out of dessert but the table by us ordered it and it looked pretty cool. I wish I had saved some room. The staff was very pleasant and service was polite and prompt. This is definitely a pricey place to go but the service and food was worth it. It's a nice way to treat yourself. read more

Booked in for Summer restaurant week dinner for 2. We ordered the 3 course menu and cocktails. Food was good. Drinks were great! Lovely food & drink presentation. However, the service was poor at best. The 20% gratuity was automatically included, so maybe that's why no one cared. Our server rarely checked on our table and we had to ask for each course, although we could see our server chewing each time he whizzed past us. It was like pulling teeth to get service or anyone's attention. Our server also lost my dinner mate's credit card. We asked to split the bill and he returned the bill book with only one of the two credit cards we gave him. Found it somewhere 5-7 minutes later...The same server also erroneously ran my credit card for the total bill 3 times, and didn't tell me! Thank goodness for bank alerts. When I asked for the voided receipts for records, not trusting the error had been fixed, the manager gave me the crumpled receipts from his pocket. Of course I want a record to show $400 in incorrect charges had been adjusted... Poor experience. Will not return. read more

Once seated drinks we gave the Sangria a try very good, nice taste but pretty light on the alcohol. Appetizers had the Scallion pancakes, the pancakes were good nice taste w the dipping sauce only thing is they were over fried a bit too much. Food we had an order of the Fried rice & The Chicken Jo Lau, the rice comes in this small clay pot doesn't seem like it has a lot but it fools u it's like it just keeps coming out Loll very good rice. Arrived a bit early for our reservation, so we indulged in a few cocktails by the bar. The bartenders were stunning & incredibly friendly. Enjoyed several rounds of watermelon mojitos! Food was exceptional! High quality food best served family style. Some stand out dishes include the lobster fried rice, crispy seaweed, all the pecking duck dishes, crispy beef, and Chilean sea bass. Even simple dishes such as the shrimp dumplings and Kung Pao Chicken were special. Seems like you can't go wrong with anything you order! Service was also fantastic! The staff was very attentive, checking in on us throughout the night. I also joked that I received a terrible fortune during dessert, so they brought out new fortune cookies for me! We had reservations and they made us wait about 30-45 mins for our table. Which was fine we grabbed a drink. The table they sat us at was right above the air vent. When we asked to change seating lol we were told we can switch tables but that never happened. Ambiance and music is lit. Our server was pretty attentive. Food was just disappointing. The chicken satay had a bad texture. The walnut shrimp was too sweet and the garlic broccoli had no flavor. Lobster fried rice was not good. The food overall was just bad. 1 Star strictly because they spilled an entire drink all over my sister (on her 21st birthday) & my 3 year old son almost immediately after we placed our food order. I understand that accidents happen but it wasn't an enjoyable experience for her to have to sit in a wet sticky dress & shoes for dinner. It was a milestone birthday & she didn't get to fully enjoy herself (of course my 3 yr old wasn't very happy either). They did bring over warm towels to clean up but obviously she was still sticky & wet. We didn't make a big deal out of the situation but we were surprised that they didn't comp anything other than replacing the beverage that was spilled. 3.5 stars... Everything about this restaurant says upscale. But it's all pretty superficial. You look a little bit closer and you'll find that this place is ghetto af. Upscale Americanized Chinese food for the ghetto fabulous. Except... except for the Peking duck. The four stars are solely for their version of one of my favorite dishes which, if I'm being honest, is one of the top 5 Peking ducks that I've ever had (including the many versions we had in Peking/Beijing)... Go there for the duck- nothing else. Get the carcass too... Most of the meat is still on those bones. read more

Recommended by a friend who attended during restaurant week, we came for a birthday dinner - Nice place with good music and vibe. We shared a good amount of small bites that were good, but nothing too special in my opinion. I had the lychee martini, a personal fav that did not disappoint. We also shared some of the velvet cheesecake dessert that was super rich and sweet (recommend if that's your thing). Seated pretty quickly once our entire party had arrived, order taken right away, but took a while for anyone to clear our table full of empty plates and even longer to get someone's attention for the check. Went here yesterday and everything was decent, not great. Until we found a hair in my friends dessert. Yum. We saw the restaurant week sign outside so we thought we should stop in for their $26 lunch prefixe. The chicken satay which I feel is popular here was the best part of the experience. Coming in a close second was the Beijing chicken. Otherwise, I'm going to assume the portions come in bigger sizes when paying full price. Anywho, the server apologized for the hair and said the dessert would be taken off our bill. As it should because it looked like pubes & we no longer had an appetite. We both made sure it wasn't ours but the color didn't match mine or my friends. The bill ended up being 0.00 for the brownies but 26 for the entree. So, the price we were going to pay regardless for restaurant week prefixe???.... I don't like causing scenes or being rude to service industry people but seriously?? We were basically charged the prefixe price anyway and nothing was taken care of. After mentioning it to the server I heard him go back & laugh at us about it with his coworkers...sir, the dining room wasn't full at all, learn how to whisper.
