Philz had been my all time favorite coffee. I used to swear by it. However, their special item Soul Train hasn't been that good. The item has lost it touch. I do not know whether it's the baristas or the coffee itself, but it doesn't have a minty taste where the hazelnut compliments the rich coffee flavors. The De Anza and the one near SJSU places deliver the same result as of now. I am disappointed because it used to be really good. I told the baristas for sweet and creamy but it's not sweet at all. A sunnyvale local took us here, and I've got to say, I love this location! Personable staff, great vibes, and good coffee! And this says a lot coming from a huge tea person like me. This space is on the smaller end compared to other Philz I've visited (Fullerton, CA is 3x larger), but it does have a cute nook with 3 study desks near the back of the linear store.The perk is the ample parking space located in Stevens Creek plaza. Wow, this was outstanding coffee! And they had decaf options galore, too. Even iced! I had the iced Jacob's Wunderbar, a little chocolatey, a nice dark roast, it was one of the most flavorful coffees I've ever had. I've taken a few people here to try their famous Mint Mojito and Ecstatic iced coffees as they are so easy to drink and well caffeinated. They're always adjusting and evaluating if the drink is made to your liking which makes Philz feel more personable to satisfy your personal taste. Love the drink quality, price point and service here. The only issue is the problematic parking and there is often a line out the door, however, I feel that it's understandable considering how each barista puts time into each drink. read more

As a native Floridian visiting CA for the first time, I was told that a trip to Philz is a must see while in the area. Since we only have Starbucks and DD where I live, Philz was definitely a unique concept Here they offer about 20 different blends of coffee with decadent descriptions. I chose the silken splendor, which had hints of chocolate and cashews. All coffees are broken down into 3 categories: light, medium and dark blend. They also offer sweet treats and light bites. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, but it's limited and on our Saturday afternoon it was packed. My only complaint is that the whole process is a bit confusing for a newbie. First you wait in line, then order with any of the 3 available baristas, then wait some more, then pay. It could be a bit more clear to make it streamlined. This process lead to longer than necessary waits since many of us were just standing around trying to figure out what to do. My favorite is Iced Mojito Latte, be aware they do not froth the milk and you don't get much foam in your latte. It is hand whipped!! The sitting is a bit tight in this location as it is a small place and I generally end up on the patio due to lack of space, but not bad as there is ample parking and you can easily get to this location and run other errands in the shopping center. read more

Mint Mojito Iced Coffee. I've had this bookmarked for a while and I wanted to go to the one in San Jose but the one in Cupertino wouldn't be half bad, now would it? It was on our way since we were coming from Santa Cruz and going to San Fran using the 17-85-280. Plus I would finally make a stop in Cupertino! This is located a mile East of the 85 on the Stevens Creek exit. It's in a shopping plaza but no facing the street so you have to go around to find the place. When going in, you could see a line of 8 people and a good amount of workers (I think I saw 5?) either at the register or making drinks. You went in the line, told the person who made the drinks what you wanted, and then you paid at the cashier. The mint mojito iced coffee. The mint was definitely strong, and you definitely do not see this as coffee. It's weird because I don't think I can get this elsewhere (other than other Philz) and this isn't that bad. The mint is strong and it's really creamy/foamy. However, I don't think it's worth the $4/$5 price that it is to get it :( Maybe $3 though :-/ I will say that I've had it though! read more

Let me say right off the bat that I have Starbucks' iced peppermint mocha running through my veins. With that disclosed, I've been curious to try Philz, because so many of my friends have extolled the wonders of the Mint Mojito Iced Coffee. She was giving us the 4-1-1 on the coffees, how to order, where to pay, etc. Said friend is currently making her way through the entire menu. She already tried all of the specialty drinks and dark roasts. My other friend was a newbie to Philz, just like I was. The baristas (do they call them that there?) were efficient. The girl who took my order was super friendly and helpful. I ordered a large Mint Mojito Iced Coffee-Sweet & Creamy. There was a bit of a delay at the register, as they had some trouble reloading a gift card, but otherwise no problems whatsoever. My coffee was waiting for me at the counter by the time I paid. My cup was adorned with some fresh mint leaves on top. I was caught off guard by my first couple of sips, because I drank in some mint leaves. Philz must muddle mint leaves in their coffee. Texture matters to me. If I'm drinking an iced coffee, I don't want to have to chew. My mint mojito was a completely different animal than what I am used to. That's not necessarily bad, just different. Compared to what I'm used to, my coffee wasn't sweet. I added some sugar when I got home. I also strained the liquid into another cup and added more ice. After tweaking my drink, I like it. It's refreshing. Definitely a fresh mint flavor. Service was good, but I don't want to have to "fix" my drink before devouring it. I'll stick with you know who. Wow! Wow! Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, WOW! I visited Philz coffee at the recommendation of a friend and coworker. I've never heard of Philz, and the last time I was in Cupertino for work two years ago - this place did not exist! I walked in, went to the register to order, and was told that I was in the wrong place - I needed to talk to the Barista first! I apologized, they laughed and explained they do things a bit differently... So I went to the Barista. He asked what I liked - I talked about bold, dark, robust, flavorful coffees with lots of character. He recommended I try the Ether. So I did. They grind the beans for each cup to order and then make it on the spot - so it takes longer to get your coffee than regular coffee shops. And oh boy is it ever worth waiting for! Amazing! I then went up to pay, and the cashier would not let me pay - they told me it was on the house! Their coffee is in the same cosmic realm as Blue Bottle! I will be back to visit Philz in the future every time I come back to Cupertino! read more

AHHHH yes! The time has finally come! After waiting a yr and a half about this location opening up, I finally came to the Grand Opening! I'm digging the great artwork on the walls, the narrow side wall seating that includes benches and sofas etc. There are tables along the way too. This Phil'z doesn't really have a theme to it though. It's more open inside and looks pretty simple. The line formation is going to be a problem though I can tell. Lines will extend through outside since the ordering and bar is more than halfway up the store. This location will draw attention to the foodies that travel to Palo Alto or downtown San Jo for Phil'z coffee and will catch the eyes of those students across the block; De Anza College. Ive been to a number of Philz now and I dont recall ever seeing such an Asian heavy clientele. I mean it was almost like a Taiwanese milk tea place :) OK enough on the people observations. I was really excited that Philz was opening a new location in Cupertino! I've been to the one in Palo Alto, and I really liked their coffee. The decor inside here is nice, and my mint mojito tasted 5 stars, just enough of mint, and the right amount of cream. The barista though helped the customer after us before he helped my dad and I , and that took me back a little. So, 5 stars for the coffee, 3 stars for service. The food is local and tastes delicious! The Palo Alto location has a more homely feel, this location is located in a fairly new plaza/building. There's artwork tacked on the walls. This is an awesome coffee shop. I wish we had this in houston! They have different roasts of coffee. I am a coffee purist and only drink black unsweetened coffee. I was skeptical about the tastes of different coffee flavors because I feel coffee should taste like coffee and not cinnamon etc. I had the tantalizing Turkish and I was really impressed. Creamy, foamy, minty, refreshing and much less sweet compared to sbux's diabetes inducing syrups that they call "drinks". It tastes sooo good and doesn't have that cloyingly sweet and synthetic taste. The tables are HUGE and WIDE. It wasn't too busy at around 12:00 pm. I did pay $5.60 for my drink but sbux costs about the same for a grande which is comparable to the large at philz (and it's actually drinkable unlike sbux's cup of ice). Plus you are now hipster. Oh wait, I think you need to go to bluebottle to be hipster. It is a bit confusing to order. You order your drink frist, wait, grab it and then go to the register. I had to wait twice and it took a bit longer for my drink to be ready. But my barista was super friendly and I could tell she put effort to make my drink. My favorite drinks have to be the Mocha Tesora, Dancing Water, and Philtered Soul, all iced! I tend to get my coffee sweet and creamy, so if you are into sweet I recommend that! I enjoy that my coffee comes out sweet, but I also get that coffee taste to it that's not overwhelming. I also love the location, it's small and could easily be missed if you don't pay attention, but after you go once you'll never forget. The staff is great! I'm tempted to purchase mint leaves and put it in all my future coffees that are not from Philz! The line at this establishment can get long sometimes, but service from the staff is well above 5 stars. They are always friendly and want to make sure your coffee is what you want. I recommend the mint mojito drink because it is absolutely delicious! It is my go to drink when the weather gets hot. The price for a mint mojito is around $4, but in my opinion, I think it is worth the money if you get the drink every once in awhile. Protip: one orders their drinks first at a barista bar and then proceeds to the cashier to pay. I had the Philharmonic at the barista's recommendation, and my sister had the mint mojito. I really enjoyed my Philharmonic, cream, no sugar. The mint mojito on the other hand was untouched and therefore way too sweet, kind of like drinking a chocolate bar. It was really good, don't get me wrong, but I also found out it has 300 calories, and all things considered it felt much more like a dessert (AKA frappuccino) than an actual coffee drink. read more
