I ended up in this place when I discovered that Lindo Mexico (next door - see my review) is not open for dinner. I'm a foodie, so what is most important to me is the food. This place has good quality meals at ridiculously low prices. I got completely stuffed on beef Pho for the huge price of $6.50. The taste was fresh and hearty and the quality excellent. It was alright. The quantity was decent but the price was a little expensive for the quality of the food. My family and I went on a Saturday night during prime dinner hour (6-7PM) and there was no customers at all. The hostess/owner was attentive because we were the only customers there. On yelp, we had read the pho was delicious so my family and I ordered the chicken seafood combo noodle and beef pho (#37 and #38). They were pretty decent but I have had better pho in other places. Don't judge a book by its cover. A friend took me here the first time I came, and I was honestly scared. There was no one in the restaurant and just the location alone (being off San Pedro and Central) had me very hesitant. I took the recommendation of my friend on what type of Pho to order, and I was very impressed! The soup was the perfect temperature with just enough of all the ingredients. The service is always very fast and they make sure you have everything you need. This has now become the only place I'll go to get Pho. Best pho I've had anywhere, I was gonna get a 55b (Spicy beef lemon grass soup with pork hock) but the owner suggested I get the number 38 (sate beef noodle soup w/ special spices, lemon grass in a beef noodle soup), it had some red chili sauce, different cuts of beef, lemongrass, cucumber, and a few other key ingredients that made the everything come together in a symphonic way, I wasn't disappointed. It had an amazing array of ingredients and tasted very fresh, I've never had anything like it before. We got the chicken pho, and I noticed they made it with tender cuts which is way better for pho, I don't ever suggest using chicken breast for pho, as it is really dry and doesn't compliment the soup well. This is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Albuquerque. It's a small mom and pop place ran by Lily who is a sweetheart. They have a wide variety of authentic Vietnamese food. They also have delicious shakes. Their prices are always fair (cheaper than most Vietnamese restaurants), and their premises are always clean. The service can be slow at times (depending on how busy they are) but the quality of the food more than makes up for it. My favorite thing to get there are the super fresh spring rolls and the egg rolls. read more

I've been coming to this great restaurant for years. The food is great, the service wonderful, but on my last visit I saw a small bug on the table right after I ordered. Later, I noticed that one of the owners flicked something off the table right behind me as well. I don't want to say they were tiny roaches because I'm not 100% and don't want people to panic, but I am a bit worried they don't keep up with their pest inspections. So we were driving through ABQ on our way to Los Alamos and decided we needed a change from the American style food we've been eating on this road trip. Decided to come here after reading a few reviews. Food was excellent! Pho has always been a favorite dish of mine and this place was definitely one of the better places I've been too. This is my SPOT!!! I love coming here because it meets the two most important criteria for me, cheap and delicious. The menu is rather long and I'm not sure what half the stuff is, which is a good sign that it's authentic, but a big bowl of Pho is less then ten bucks. The neighborhood is super sketch and the restaurant is a bit dated but neither of those are so bad that I wouldn't come here. The owner is very friendly too. Stopped by for lunch on a Sunday. Selected the restaurant because of all the rave reviews and was very disappointed. (Maybe just an "off" day?) Started off with some Vietnamese egg rolls. They came out in seconds -- since they were cooked ahead of time and sitting around. They were barely warm and served on a bed of shredded iceberg lettuce. I'm used to being served egg rolls fresh from the fryer, with whole leaves of lettuce, noodles, sprouts, etc. The egg roll wrapper used seems to be the thick kind commonly found in Chinese restaurants. The filling didn't have much flavor. I then got a large pho. It didn't taste bad. It didn't have much taste at all. So I figured, at least I can finish it off and have a full stomach even though it wasn't really satisfying. Compared to my stand-by's in Colorado (Pho Duy, Pho 79, Golden Noodle Bowl, Pho 120, etc.) this was very bland and there wasn't much meat. I wouldn't have minded the skimpy meat portion if it at least had a decent five spice and cinnamon aroma. read more

Forgettable experience- horrible customer service. Wouldn't return. My friend and I stopped here for dinner on a late Tuesday evening because we happened to be in the area. Upon arriving, the woman working (perhaps owner?) was on the phone but quickly stood up to tell us to sit where we'd like. Overall, we spent about one hour dining in this facility, and for the entire hour, the woman remained on the phone. Worst part is that she kept the phone to her ear when taking our order and didn't have the decency to put person on the other line on hold. Aside from my friend and I, there were two other patrons in the restaurant. It was so difficult to carry a conversation because woman on phone was projecting her voice so much that it made it extremely unpleasant dining here. We ordered fresh shrimp spring rolls for our appetizer, of which was semi-fresh. The rice paper was still soft enough to bite into but the ends were drying up. The peanut sauce was distinct with a bolder peanut flavor in comparison to other Vietnamese restaurants in the area. Sauce is complemented with a little Sriracha spicy sauce. For our entrees, I ordered the vermicilli noodles with shrimp and pork. The portion size was larger than expected; however, they skimped on the protein. I got two medium sized shrimp and about 3 oz. of cooked pork. The remainder of my dish was noodles, lettuce and a pinch of carrots. If you order this dish, I highly recommend asking for additional fish sauce or a broth because once you eat all your protein, the dish is rather bland. My friend ordered a green curry dish with chicken and white rice. The green curry was literally green ( I've not seen such a bright green dish, and makes me wonder) and the veggies were obviously not fresh. They're the pre-cut style. In total, two entrees and two glasses of water cost us about $25. There are so many Asian restaurants in the International District to choose from. I say save your appetite for a truly unforgettable experience elsewhere. I don't plan to return to this restaurant but I'm glad I tried it and spared you some disappointment. read more

Pho #1 was the first really good Vietnamese I found when I moved here, and have continued coming back for years. The location is central and easily accessible, and great if you're out running errands. Take out is always fast and hot. Last visit we ordered: tofu lemongrass vermicelli noodles (stir fried) cashew nut chicken with rice spring rolls (cold, rice paper wrapper) egg rolls (fried) papaya juice The entrees are reasonably priced, and the spring rolls are cheap and tasty. I always ask for peanut sauce with their spring rolls. The seven courses of beef is a specialty that I often enjoyed before I went vegetarian. Bring a friend and experience the authentic 7 courses. Excellent food and service with a smile, though communication can be difficult if you're asking lots of questions. I quit asking and just enjoy my food now. read more

We moved to Albuquerque this summer and quickly began a serious search for the best Vietnamese place. This is it! We can't let a week go by without eating at Pho #1. We try to branch out and order other things but usually can't resist getting the Central of Vietnam Egg Rolls and Beef Pho. Everything we have tried has been amazing. We LOVE the atmosphere...mom waits on customers, kids do homework at a table, dad cooks, and there's usually a Vietnamese musical program showing on the television. read more

I have family in Albuquerque and ventured into this little spot beside a poorly populated Mexican eatery. The decor is definitely your expected typical granny sue's apartment type. The place is family run and thriving with 2nd and 3rd generation of the owners children, with an assortment of fresh fruits and veggies for the younger family after school, which includes their jack fruit, plantains, mango, and a few other viet favorites the kids snack on while you wait on your meals. My sister lives 2 miles from pho #1 and it wasn't hard to find. I came in and sat down for some pho tai and was taken aback by how authentic the broth tastes! I was pregnant at the time with my first son and they always were full of gracious optimism when I walked in! Because of such strong presence of family, it was only right that my sister accompanied me to have a broken rice bowl with fried pork. The rice was soft, moist and not overcooked. The pork was meaty, juicy, beautifully arranged and tasty without the greasy aftertaste. There was so much food we had to grab to go plates! I ended up eating there just about every day that I was in NM. I am glad this restaurant is here, and I hope to stop in again if I'm ever in NM. read more

I love Vietnamese food. A friend from college kept telling me that this was the best in town, and yes - he had tried them. My wife and i go at least once a month. Her family is Brazilian and they visit often. Her Dad is older and has celiac disease. This is his favorite restaurant, and as a journalist he has travelled the world. Literally. He says he comes here from Sao Paulo just for this Pho. He is kidding but I'm not sure. The woman who takes orders is the owner and she isn't big on small talk. Sometimes her kids are running around, literally. It's nice. A real family place. There is always a large flat screen TV on, usually tuned to an Asian channel that is kind of interesting. The volume is usually off. Stick to the basics and you won't be disappointed. The service and ambience is not first class, but the food is great, and if you go at the right time, it is VERY fast. If it is busy, they get a little stretched and you can wait awhile for your food. It's in the "International Zone" which is not the greatest part of Albuquerque in my opinion, not a problem. Just go for the food. Don't expect a fine dining experience - except for the food, Cheaper than Pizza. They use the right spices and ingredients. The 1 star reviews on here are people that expected better ambience and a talkative server - you won't get that. I had to thank my friend, it really is good. read more
