This is the best pho you can get in Chinatown, but compared to 626, it's about average. Note: CASH ONLY!! The place seems like a hole in the wall, family owned restaurant. The staff is efficient, but I wouldn't necessarily say they are friendly. They want to quickly serve and pack your things to-go so they can seat their next customer. I felt a bit rushed, but I guess that's understandable since there were several groups waiting to be seated. Make sure to come early if you don't want to wait! Parking can be tough since the lot in the back is small. They also have street parking, but there's a lot of pot holes - beware! Portions are pretty huge and fairly priced. It's been around for a long time, and it was a well-kept secret but now everyone knows that this is the spot four great Vietnamese food in Chinatown. Staff are always friendly and inviting. You can definitely get your pho or vermicelli groove on here. Prices: a bowl of pho will run you about $10-12. Bun cha will run you about $11. Parking: they have a lot, that you enter on from Broadway. There's also street parking on People: fun for all ages, but it's mostly an adult crowd. Good, but not phenomenal or anything. Came here on a Sunday and waited approx 15 minutes for a table of 9. We ordered the spring rolls, egg rolls, pho, rice plate, and special (oxtail soup). All were good - the spring rolls didn't look as vibrant as at other places and the egg rolls were skinnier than usual, but still very tasty. After tip, the bill for our table was about $180. A mom and pop run Vietnamese shop located in Lincoln heights and near Chinatown. I was craving egg rolls and spring rolls and was in the area and decided to give this place a try. It only has street parking and it is cash only. The decor isn't anything pretty but it's clean enough to eat. The bathroom is a bit grungy but didn't come here to use the restroom. I think they are also known for the pho but I didn't try it. I ended up ordering a half order of egg rolls and spring rolls which came out to be around 9.50. The egg rolls came with cabbage and fish sauce. It was a nice combination to have the fresh lettuce with the fried oily goodness of the oil and cut with the fish sauce. Overall would get it again. The spring rolls came with shredded cabbage, shrimp, and what I think was BBQ beef. The sauce was a great combination to the spring rolls and it was really tasty. read more

I've been to many of the famous places you see on social media-Brodard's, Pho 79, etc. Pho 87 is much better. Broth for pho is fantastic and the other dishes are really good too. I remember eating here in the 1980's when it was called the VIP Restaurant. Memorable was the salt water aquarium that housed live Santa Barbara sweet shrimp situated near the entrance. There were pillars covered in bronze colored metalicized plastic sheeting. The outside wall still sports a pinkish polished stone covering from those more prosperous times in what was called "New Chinatown". Now this space hosts a run-of-the-mill Vietnamese eatery that looks a little down on its luck. Looking like a standard classroom, most of the tables face front toward the TV screen. This is not a special occasion restaurant, but one that is quite efficient in bringing food out fast for those inclined to be "hangry". Good basic service for basic needs. 1) Cha Gio: Imperial rolls have a more Chinese influence in having the wrapper made from wheat which isn't as thin or as crispy as the more Vietnamese style of using rice paper wrapper. The ground pork filling with touches of fresh herbs is a good effort. Nuoc Cham, sweetened fish sauce added a meatier Umami & garlic tinged Sriracha or puréed chile pepper in vinegar enlivened the Cha Gio. The Imperial rolls here do not compare to the amazing, rustic Cha Gio at Quang Trung in Little Saigon nor the Pham Cha Gio at Golden Deli. However, it's good enough. The accompaniment of green leaf lettuce & spearmint leaf added refreshment in between bites. 2) Pho Dac Biet: Dac Biet means "special" in Vietnamese which in this case means different cuts of beef were included such as long cooked, soft gelatious tendon, flank, sirloin, both which were rather tough. Bit of soft yet textured tripe added an exotic touch. The beef based broth tasted as though a bit of cinnamon were added for a warm spice aromatic flavour. Sliced onions & chopped green onions were in the broth. Vietnamese basil, bean sprouts, jalapeño, lime could be added into the broth for added herbal complexity. The rice noodles become a background counterpoint to the broth, vegetables, & meat. Only drawback to the Pho broth is that it is not hot enough to blanch the added vegetables. Hot Jasmine tea on a cold near winter evening was sipped in between bites, & sweet Thai Ice Tea with good roasted, fermented reddish brown brewed tea & condensed milk became the satisfying dessert. 3 Yelp stars for adequate comestibles. read more

On the rainiest day of LA history (or as far as I can recall in my 4 months of calling it home), my husband took me back to one of his favorite college eats/comfort foods - #2 from Pho 87. Upon entering, my husband immediately recognized the workers and owner who catered to him more than a decade ago. #2 according to my husband hasn't changed one bit. Still a giant bowl of deliciousness that my husband would be more than happy to have seconds and thirds. I had their medium beef tendon only pho. Flavor was clean. Tendon well cooked. Good pho but personally not something I would crave (I prefer thicker cut noodles and I don't care for soups - guessed pho and I just aren't meant to be). Their egg rolls on the other hands would be something I crave again and again. So crunchy, so packed with fillings and flavors. A little on the pricier side but well worth it! BOMB homemade broth - Pho and Bun Bo Hue!! Hits the spot for those of us driving 20-30minutes to get decent pho. FYI, Central LA and West LA lack DECENT Vietnamese and Chinese joints, this is our closest safe haven for comfort food. CASH ONLY! Any Pho or Bun Bo Hue soup dish is delicious! Its packed with goodies and they don't skimp off on anything. 1) Pick your broth: Pho (lighter) or Bun Bo Hue (darker, not as thick and spicy here) 2) Pick what items you want in it. Bun Bo Hue comes with all those bizarre goodies. Although you can customize your Bun Bo Hue with pho noodles instead if you like that better. 3) Pick your size. - Small bowls are good for light-medium eaters. - Medium is good portion for medium to hungry man portion. - Large is great to get if you love leftovers, a whole pho to yourself the next day or you can share this. OR its for someone with a super large appetite. Recommend asking staff to help you pack soup, and noodles for you. Its guarantee I will spill everywhere if I tried. I've tried these and wouldn't recommend them: Rice dishes, dry nest noodle, beef stew or spring roll unless craving them. I recommend traveling to 626 or Westminster for those items. And if you're super specific about your Bun Bo Hue, yes travel there too. But Pho 87's crispy egg roll is decent. Hollywood/Los Feliz area has Thai version Pho, Filipino version Pho, and Americanized version Pho = Horrible, nothing close to just decent. Parking: Private free small back lot, free street or meter parking. Drive slowly in the parking lot since the cement is all cracked into pieces and uneven. For those coming from 626 area, why are you here? Bare in mind that Chinatown is really the closest best pho for LA folks to get anything close to authentic Vietnamese or Chinese food.....as sad as that may sound. Just like how your travel to Ktown or Garden Grove would be your closest distance to authentic Korean food. I grew up in the 626, so 626 is a whole different level. read more

This is one of my favorite Vietnamese places in Chinatown. The staff is very friendly. I always order the same thing... either the Bun Bao Hue or the #20 Char Pork Pho. The #20 is very unique in that they use charbroiled pork instead of your typical brisket or rare meat. You can literally taste the char taste in the broth of your pho. I highly recommend! read more

Not my favorite place for pho but definitely seems to be the best in the area that I have tried! The workers are very nice though! I ordered a small #11 which is the pho with thin rare beef, tendon, and tripe. I love that they give a lot of tendon in here! Some pieces are a little harder than how it's supposed to be but it is still good. Had to put 2 limes in this bowl to make it taste even better. Quite pricy for pho but I suppose since it's one of the better pho places around, it's worth it! A small bowl is about $9.95 when most pho I'm used to eating is like $6 or $7. As of now, this is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Los Angeles. When I walked in at 11:30am, Pho 87 was already crowded with customers. The restaurant is vast, however, so it wasn't difficult to find a seat. About an hour later there was a line, so I'd recommend you arrive before noon if you don't want to wait to get seated. I ordered the Pho Tai, which is essentially pho with rare beef. The broth and noodles were delicious, and the classic pho fixings made the dish fantastic. I added a bit of hoisin, jalapeños, basil, lime, and chilis to add some extra flavor. This place clearly puts time into making their pho nearly perfect, and I'd say it's right in line with the pho I've had in Vietnam. One small aspect of the restaurant that I appreciated was that you go up to the front to pay at the end despite getting to order from your table. To me, that's exactly how every restaurant should do it so that customers don't have to wait for the bill and can simply get up and pay when ready. read more

This place is hella good!!!! It might just be the best pho I've ever had, like overall- parking lot, fast service, delicious food, quick turnaround, over and out. They are CASH ONLY which is kinda of inconvenient but they have an ATM inside :) So the place is pretty big inside and every time I have gone there for lunch the place is crowded, but it doesn't take them too long to find you a seat. Since we usually go for lunch, we are on a limited time schedule, so this works out perfectly. My go to is the #3 - rice noodle with rare beef and they have 3 size options- small, medium, and large. I get the small and the amount is just enough to fill you up and give you a slight food coma. Plus it's only $9.55. I did see the large bowl and wow talk about massive. anyway, they also have this jar on some of the tables of "roasted garlic chili paste." So so good. I've never seen it anywhere else. FAVORITE PHO SPOT IN LA. When I first moved to LA, I came across this place on Yelp, and went solely off the fact that the main picture of the restaurant was of Tim (the manager) & Brad Pitt. It was hilarious. Ironically, I ended up coming to this place at least once a week, and sometimes up to 4 times a week (in the winter). This is as solid as pho can get. However, since they introduced their ox tail soup early last year, that has been my absolute go to. I highly recommend it, and when you order it and they're not too busy, ask Tim if he can make you the dipping sauce for the oxtail meat. You can always make it yourself at your table, just ask for limes. It's generally 1 part sriracha, 1 part hoisin, 2 parts Garlic chili paste, & 2 parts lime juice. Mix it in a little side plate and voila! I would also recommend the egg rolls. Wrap those bad boys in lettuce, dip it into your oxtail sauce for spice and then dip it into the egg roll sauce. I remember the first time I requested no noodles, this was BC, before covid, and they gave me the strangest look but complied. Now I'm their regular, asking for 15, small, no noodles. We came in a few days ago- I was actually curious to try it because it's difficult to find authentic Vietnamese food without heading towards OC and there were so many reviews. The place needs a little pick me up for sure. It's a bit worn down but this didn't really bother us. The pho was decent. I appreciate the different size options- and the spring rolls were tasty.
