Pho 96 always brings back (blurry) memories. The days where I'm out until 2am on weekends instead of going to bed at 10pm. 96 was perfect for satisfying the late night craving that won't make you hate yourself in the morning. And it's great for satisfying any Pho craving. I heard through the grapevine that 96 owners and 95 owners were family. Maybe why the Pho here is delicious. Though pretty much all the Pho places I've had near this area, dubbed "Vietnamese town" is great. Can't really go wrong. Noodles, soup, meat are all on point. For me, small is plenty. The only pain point about this place may be the parking, it's a very small lot and sometimes it's hard to find one available. read more

I met my friend here for a weeknight dinner and was laughing at the fact that there are 5 other pho restaurants with "Pho ____ (enter number)" for the name. I was surprised the location was packed for a weeknight (and continued to be packed well until after we left). I ordered the rare flank and tendon medium pho, which had okay flavor. I was happy they serve a HUGE portion of bean sprouts, lime, jalapenos, and thai basil, but I feel like the noodle portion was a bit small. I eat a lot of pho in Dallas, and I can never finish the noodles. My medium bowl almost had TOO much flank steak and too little noodles. This is the first time in my life I'll ever complain about too much meat. I ended the meal with an almond boba, which I was surprised it was served with whipped cream. The boba was really hard and brittle, so unfortunately the tapioca was inedible. However, the almond flavor was really good. read more

We were actually rather disappointed in our Denver pho experience as a whole. So it was with some trepidation that we decided to give it another go and hit up Pho 96. The verdict? Best. Idea. Ever! This place is the bee's knees. Here is why: Service: Awesome! These guys hustled to make sure your food comes out quickly and accurately. Further, you'll never have to decide if the glass is half empty or half full, your glass is always full here. Not only that, the owners made it a point to check in on us and make sure we were enjoying our experience. It made me feel that they really cared about our experience and appreciated our stopping in. Totally owning the competition here. Food: FANTASTIC! Spring rolls - awesome (peanut sauce was also on point). Rare beef pho - awesome. Filet special pho - awesome. The broth was perfect and there were toppings aplenty. And the best part... no MSG headache. I couldn't even really detect any of it. If it is used at all, it is done so sparingly. Atmosphere: Great! Today was a like a long lost reunion even though we can never get our names right... Very good Pho, clear broth, a nice balance of flavors. There was a nice abundant veggie plate with all the hoisin and stuff on the side. The tripe in my soup almost made me into an honorary bovine. I can't resist pho!! And new restaurants :) so here I stumbled upon a place with solid pho, heaping servings, and friendly staff despite being kept on their toes with a steady stream of customers. There was techno pop playing overhead quiet enough to have a conversation but loud enough for your heart to feel like jumping up a notch to tip over the 100 beat per minute mark. Where do I begin? 5 stars, hands-down. After flipping through some reviews and photos of this place, I decided that Pho 96 was on the menu for dinner. It was a rainy Saturday evening. The aroma in this place will knock your socks off. Smells of lemon grass, garlic and shallots danced through the air and became hungrier as the minutes went on... We were quickly greeted by a very polite waiter who gave menus and ice cold water. It didn't take me long to choose, thanks to the lovely recommendations from fellow Yelpers. I choose a small Veggie #5 and my boyfriend got a small seafood, (can't remember the number, sorry). We also ordered two vegetarian spring rolls as an appetizer. Our spring rolls and pho toppings arrived quickly and we dug in. The spring rolls were delicious, stuffed with fresh vegetables and the peanut dipping sauce was perfect. We had barely taken two bites when two, steaming hot bowls of pho were delivered to our table. Talk about service, friendly and super fast! We scarfed the last of our spring rolls and moved on to our soups. The Veggie #5 was steaming and aromatic. I could see the bowl was filled with fresh vegetables and lots of noodles. I added some fixings and took the first bite. It was OUT OF THIS WORLD! The flavors in the broth were incredible; some sweetness, spiciness and tang. The noodles and vegetables were cooked to perfection. I could hardly stop myself from eating the whole bowl, I was totally in the zone. My boyfriend's was just as amazing; perfect noodles, shrimp, and vegetables with an entirely different delicious broth. We were so full from a small bowl of pho and still took home leftovers. We both left feeling satisfied and happy, both agreeing it is the best pho we'd ever had. The food is delectable and I intend to try everything on the menu. Hot damn, the pho cravings come on strong around 1-2am after a night out at the bars or a night or drinking wherever you like to go drink. How to satisfy this late night craving? PHO 96. Compared to it's neighbor Pho 555, this place is most definitely the better of the two. I only go to Pho 555, when Pho 96 is too full to take me! Which can happen on the weekends at 2 in the morning. I took a friend from Cali there recently after some bar hopping and of course threw the infamous line that "Colorado has the best pho." He didn't believe me. He claimed that I just didn't have the right pho in Cali, but as he ate, his denial slowly slipped away to his last statement, "Why is this so good, is there crack in it?" Hahah given, he could have been a little drunk...;) The specialty here, along with Pho 95, is the filet mignon pho. If you haven't tried it yet, well then you don't have the right to give this place it's proper ratings. If you tried it and you still didn't think it was anything spectacular, well, to each their own. Haha the meat is very tender, I huge difference from just a rare steak pho. How one decides on a pho place while driving down federal is beyond me! We've stopped at this one twice now. The broth is flavorful and the portions are about average for a pho place. The best pho on Federal. Any Denver pho aficionado will tell you this is not a statement made lightly. It's like saying "the best actor in Hollywood," or "the weirdest game show in Japan." You just don't do it unless you mean business. Gauntlet: thrown. Pho 96 does everything right when it comes to pho. They have the most options for extra ingredients (meatballs, tripe, etc), big stacks of greens to add at your pleasure, and a refreshing clear broth that I could - and do - drink by itself. Additionally, they have the magical option of "filet mignon" meat, which - for just a few extra bucks - will kinda ruin you on the normal pho tai (rare steak). It's tender and delicious, and complements the firm noodles perfectly. You think all this awesomeness would mean smaller portions, but Pho 96 still has one of the largest servings sizes I've seen. A friend even recently remarked that their medium is about the same volume as a few other places's large. G`damn, Pho 96, why are you so good? The best part? They're open relatively late on weekdays (10 pm) and for serious late on weekends (3 am). There is no better way to cap off a long day or an even longer night. read more

Pho 96 does you right; huge portions of vibrant, savory broth and noodles with tons of Thai basil on the side. Their fried Vietnamese rolls were insane; best I've ever had, hands down. Their peanut sauce was superb, the spring rolls were basically perfect, and the service was attentive, expedient and cheery. We were the only white folks in there when we strolled in. I used to love this place for pho. I liked that they were open late and the ingredients were pretty fresh. However, I went back and it seems like an entire different restaurant. For one, it smelled like air freshener and it was disgusting. Two, they were wiping the tables with dirty rags and leaving chunks of food on the "clean" table. Also, the rice noodles were very hard as if they had been sitting there forever. The rice paper on the spring roll was also hard and crunchy, and the role was filled with rent that had the consistency of wax. The spring rolls were also served warm The only good thing was the Vietnamese coffee, but it's pretty hard to fuck that up. This is the worst place I have received treatment and food! I ordered for delivery because my life it hectic. My delivery happened to be late. I called respectfully to ask how much longer. A team member answered the phone saying, "i don't know" rudely. Then I continued to ask where is my order. He said "made". I said Ummm "okay? Is it gonna be delivered or?". So I said bye, went to pick it up. Walked in, told him I was the one who ordered for delivery. He asked where I live. "I live 5-7 minutes away". He and the other person in the store laughed at me. "Come pick it up, why couldn't you pick it up?". Ummm sir, "I order because I'm busy, that's why I order delivery". (Which is none of his business) Keep in mind I'm still paid for delivery fee. My meal came up to 20 dollars for a 10-12 meal, ANNNND ITS HAPPENS TO BE NOT MY ORDER!!! He never gave me my money back, I even gave tip. Gave me the wrong order and laugh at my face! I'm going back into the store tomorrow April 17, 2020. For the disrespect. Not to mention it wasn't the order I wanted. I've heard many good things about this place, from several different groups of friends, all positive. As such, I came here with high expectations. They meet every single one. The staff was polite, quick, efficient, and just great. The decor is interesting, but the place seems reasonably clean at least. But the food? Holy. Crap. My pho was the best I have ever had, in all my travels and all my visits to various pho joints. The noodles were perfect, the meat was abundant and tasty, the vegetables were crisp and fresh, and the broth was simply amazing. I also got a salted iced lemonade, which I'd never had. It was just okay, but still not bad enough to warrant any sort of rating reduction. All in all, I had a filling meal, left a nice tip, and all for less than $20. Will certainly be back. read more

Everything was terrific last night at Pho 96 - the lively diverse atmosphere, the wonderful array of sweet, spicy, and salty solo/mixed sauces (I fell in love with the peanut sauce!), the papaya bubble smoothie (on the menu listed as "boba smoothie"), the few extremely hard working employees running around the restaurant while meeting every customer's requests, the affordable prices, the fresh clear rice paper wrapped pork roll, and the large seafood pho soup. Let me warn you, my fellow Yelpers considering to take a try at Pho 96 . . . do not order the large pho unless you are alright with having leftovers, and feeling defeated from not being able to finish the meal (which I am totally okay with). Along with its twinner, Pho 95, the best pho restaurants in Denver. What sets it so, so far apart? The filet minion pho. It's a revolution, and something that pho 79 and pho duy definitely did not carry. These are wonderfully tender slices of beef, without any mutinous tendons or excess fattiness. The servers are beyond friendly, with fast and attentive service. Other than that, it's great pho, pure and simple. The broth has a deep umami flavor with minimal oil. At first taste, it sends that little tingle of happiness through the core of your belly, letting you know this is a good bowl of pho. Comes with the standard pho accouterments. This was my first Pho experience. After picking up my dad from the airport, he suggested we try it. I won't lie, driving that far on to Federal at first sketched me out, but I'm glad we gave it a go. I don't typically crave Asian (of any kind really), but if this were suggested among a group looking for a place to eat, I would be willing to have it again. I learned that Pho is just noodle soup, and it's pretty customizable. I got the tofu and veggie (just because, new restaurant, meat that I've never seen more. Am I the only one who thinks like that???). It was tasty, and a little spicy. This specific Pho restuarant was pretty packed out even at 9 at night and considering there are about 5 other pho restaurants within about 100 steps. Our server was really nice, and after we told him that it was my first time trying it out, he told us a couple of things to help make the experience a little less daunting. We learned that the numbers that follow Pho (ie Pho96) tend to represent the year that the owner of the place came to America. That's what the 96 represented in this restaurant - the owner came to America in 1996. Sometimes it doesn't mean that, but learning this kind of made me feel a little more intrigued by the restaurants. I always just thought those were chain numbers ... Pho 1, 2, 3... 2,369! If you have tried out pho before, this place was a great starter. It was good, there were lots of people in there enjoying the food, and the service was pretty good too. read more

Picked this place because of the great reviews and I'm glad we researched it ahead of time. There was a pho restaurant every 50 feet in this part of town! If we weren't looking for this particular one, we would of picked one with better parking. Parking lot was packed, and it's designed horribly! We were welcomed right away on a busy Friday night. The place was packed! We ordered the big appetizer platter to start. It was huge! 3 of us could of easily split just that and skipped the main dish and been very satisfied. It comes with rice sheets, veggies and a ton of grilled steak, chicken and shrimp. You dip your rice paper in the hot water they bring, then fill with the very big variety of fillings and roll. The dipping sauce for the spring rolls was AMAZING! So tasty! We all ordered medium pho bowls. Again, very large portions. All of the normal accoutrements for pho were very fresh and plentiful. The broth was very good. We preferred this broth to other establishments who are too heavy handed with the ginger. This was just the right amount. The egg rolls were better than average but the pho was just ok. I felt that the broth could've used some more flavor and there were too many noodles. This place is over-rated and I had a terrible experience. The waiter was friendly, however, the front host made things very uncomfortable and unpleasant. I ordered pho noodles combination and a ice thai tea; the waiter forgot to bring the herbs with the noodles and I had to ask later on for it; he apologized and stated because of this, I will give you the drink at no charge. I thought that was awsome and very kind of him. But when I went upto pay, the bill came out to be 15 dollars. It did not make sense; even if I was charged for the tea, the noodles I ordered were 7 bux and the tea 3 bux, so my bill should have been around 10 bux, even if I had to pay both. I told her the waiter has said I didn't need to pay for the drink because there was some mistake with the order. The front host got really mad and made a scene. I told her, it's no problem, I'll just pay. Because of this, I am never coming back to this location. One, they overcharged me for everything. I've now been a regular - going here 3-5 times per month for over a year. The service is fantastic. It hasn't been slow for me once since my first review. The broth is always the best and getting it to-go is great too. I get extra broth and make one large last for 2-3 meals. There was one time in my 50+ visits that i wasn't totally satisfied with the quality of the meat - and i received a side order of all nicely hand trimmed meat WITHOUT EVEN ASKING. The waiter just saw that i had pulled and discarded some meat out of my soup and figured I wasn't happy and fixed the issue. No one's perfect every time I don't think but it's awesome when they make it perfect immediately! The owner/staff always greets us with handshakes and hugs and smiles. Best place in town. Well ... Pho 95 USED TO BE my fave pho place ... Until Now! So funny that this place and the other are owned by same family ... Grandma must have had some great recipes! Brought experienced pho-ers and virgins to 95. They all got moist. Okay, some did spill broth on themselves, but generally it was a different type of dew level. Across the board, those ordering various pho were way pleased. The Bun Bo Hue drew raves. The veggie broth in the Pho Chay was electric. Those who went dry loved the seasoning on the Bo and Ga. As someone who grew up in a Vietnamese household, I can vouch for this place being one of the better Viet restaurants I've eaten at. The service is excellent and the food is great. I had ordered a pho bo vien (pho with meatballs) and was surprised by how flavorful the broth was. They definitely let their broth soak in a lot of meat and onions. Most pho meatballs have 1/4 cut of meatballs, but in this restaurant they use slices of meatballs.... So meat slices? Not balls... It seems this restaurant is popular with just about everyone. I'm a big time Pho lover, and this was my first Pho in Denver, Co. I was VERY impressed. The restaurant itself is like most Vietnamese places, but they had nice HD TVs to watch the Sunday NFL game, DEF A PLUS! The wait staff was awesome, very friendly, fast, and attentive. Our spring rolls were great and the Large Pho was about as BIG as I've ever had, with a very generous helping of noodles and ingredients. Summary: Not worth the mounds of hyperbolic claims it receives. Review: The quality of meat they use here is heinously anus. Seriously, I ordered the Pho 96 special with rare meat, and as soon as it gets to my table you could already see that the meat was not fresh. It was most apparent in the taste of the meat which, made me cringe. I've eaten at over 9000 other pho locations including some in California, Nevada, Guam, and Hawaii. Out of all locations, this was the very first time I didn't eat all of my meat. The rancid and unappetizing taste/look of the meat was enough to make me not want to eat it. When it came to the broth/noodles/everything else, they were quite standard. We're just back from our most recent dinner at Pho 96 - this time with friends. We love this place. Its run by a son of the owner of Pho 95, so the food is cooked and prepared in much the same style. If you like Pho 95, Pho 96 is at least as good - and doesn't require standing in line at the door (or next to the aquarium). The wait staff here is beyond gracious - warm and welcoming, and as personable to the child in our group as to the adults. And the decor is a bit nicer - and the restaurant in general cleaner, especially the walls! - than the other places we've tried. We're still stuck on our bun chay (me) and combination bun (him) favorites, but our palates grew a bit tonight thanks to a friend ordering the Vietnamese egg rolls and the combination meat rice plate.
