My favorite pho place in the area - it's cheaper than Pho VN, they give free desserts on Tuesdays, and service is always great! So glad they switched back to Pho 99 from Pho Saigon.. cause that Saigon place was not good at all. Location: located in the Ranch 99 plaza on Fremont blvd/paseo padre, with plenty of parking! Parking can be difficult to find during lunch hours on weekends since everyone is grocery shopping and eating, but other than that I've never had an issue with parking. Food: I always settle for a bowl of pho (Pho tai or their #1 with everything), a vemicelli bowl, or a rice plate. All are amazing! I personally love the grilled pork rice plate, it comes with cucumbers, a decent portion of meat, rice, soup and an egg roll or shrimp roll. I also love the pho tai or pho w/ beef balls, the noodles are always consistent in texture and broth is always steaming hot and flavorful. Prices are average for Fremont / Bay Area pho, so about $9 a bowl, but for the consistent quality and quantity, I'll definitely be coming back :) I love coming on Tuesday's because they offer a coconut or red bean dessert soup after eating, and it's free! The servers are always so kind and friendly, and so accommodating. Definitely super happy they switched back to the original owners... Coming here, the place looked very nice inside and the temperature inside was good to be able to have nice pho. The prices of the food aren't too high which is perfect for broke school students. We just recently discovered Pho 99 and we love it. The food is good and the service is even better. They remembered us (and our orders!!) after we had only been in a couple of times. The menu has a wide variety of dishes and everything we've had has been very good. Our whole family loves going there. Their pandan waffles are to die for!!! We went there on Sunday- our first time and went back on Tuesday to get more pandan waffles. We also tried their pho. Pretty good too. We've only done take out so don't know yet kind of service they have, but the people who helped us with our take out orders were helpful and friendly. Very typical fare for a pho place in the bay, but the amazing service makes it an enjoyable meal. We came here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. The servers and cashiers were really friendly and joked with me as I was the first one there. Our food came out fast and everyone liked what they got. I had the house special seafood chicken broth pho and it was delicious, but the noodles were a little soft for me. In the middle of the meal, we saw some friends at another table and the servers kindly let us move our food there! OMG!!! This new place used to be Pho 99. New management took over and replaced the table, chairs and menu. The ONLY cool thing about this place is the new furniture ~ Shameful! The ownership along with the waiters have terrible customer service- not welcoming, no follow up and if you don't ask for a copy of your receipt; the cashier will make you feel it's your fault for not asking, giving her extra work to pull a copy of the 'customer' receipt you should be receiving with the 'merchant' copy. The food however would have been fine if they got our order correct. My husband had the beef stew that had too much fatty chunks and flavorless broth, blah. Feeling a bit under the weather :( came in for pho and while I was walking towards the door with my BF we noticed that it looked different in the inside then it also had a Grand Opening sign outside. This use to be my go to place to get some good cheap pho, until another placed opened up nearby, but sadly they chaged ownership. Came back to this one and it seems as this one has changed ownership too. The food is just not as good as it use to be, in fact it is horrible compared to what it used to be. I ordered a #27, which was Vermicelli with Grilled Pork and it was horrible. The noodles were so musy and it just made the dish disgusting. My mom ordered the Bun Bo Hue which is the Spicy Noodle, and it was not good. The waitress that took our order even seemed surprised that she was ordering this dish...like really? It wasn't good. The food here is no longer good for pho, it seems as if I will have to be finding a new pho restaurant. This one simply does not fit the bill anymore. I saved my 99th review for Pho 99. :) We live about a stone's throw away from this place. This place is great to have so close when: a.) you had a crazy day at work and you're too tired to cook anything but you need to feed something wholesome to your hungry family. Fast. b.) you wake up so hung over you can't think straight, but you know you need to replenish the fluids you forcefully donated to the toilet bowl as you hugged it the night before. c.) you feel a cold coming on and a bowl of hot soup would be so helpful to kick-start your antibodies. d.) all of the above. Warning! What you're about to read is disgusting. But it's true, it happened here, and I have pictures to prove it. Late yesterday afternoon, my young son and I went to Pho 99. We were regular customers. There were several tables of people dining at the time. After our food arrived, a young waitress I have seen there many times, and an older man took a young cook or busboy out of the kitchen. They had him sit at a table in front of the diners, and proceeded to pull lice and nits out of his hair. Right in front of the diners! I know that a lot of Pho places do not have a reputation for cleanliness, bit this goes beyond anything I've ever seen before. The other diners were either shocked or disgusted. The three of them were laughing as they did this. Needless to say we paid our check and left immediately, and I have felt queasy ever since. I am reporting them to the Alameda County Department of Health. Don't let anyone tell you this didn't happen or I misunderstood what I saw. I snapped a picture of it with my iPhone and I'll send it to anyone who wants it.., including the Health Department. This is the grossest thing I ever saw at a restaurant. Never again, Pho 99! In terms of the food, this is pretty much your standard, cookie-cutter pho restaurant, but what sets this place apart from the rest is the HORRIBLE service. I already don't expect much to begin with at a Vietnamese joint, but the owners here must take pride in being complete jerks. They never smile, or even say "Thank you," and basically act like they are all doing us a big favor. One time, the waiter spilled the broth all over my mom's leg, and didn't apologize, bring us napkins, or even bother to at least wipe up the mess on the table. Not only that, but when business is a bit slow, you often find the servers and cooks (if you can even call them that) stooped down on the sidewalk right in front of the main entry... shooting dice and hocking loogies everywhere. I've had tons of Pho before and this one was OK. My cousin in law took me here because he said this is the place his family goes to for a nice cheap and hardy meal. FOOD: I ordered the Chicken rice plate and they also gave me a fish cake (that I didn't know came with it) that was my first time having a fish cake. But what I did t like about that fish cake was they basically put that in the place for the rest of chicken. The rice plate didn't come with a lot of meat since they give you the fish cake which is unfair. But the meat I did have, was very flavorful and moist. The rice was cooked perfectly and it also came with Veggies. SERVICE: From what my cousin in law told me, this is a family owned restaurant. They are doing really well for it being family owned and they offer some really good service for their customers. Making sure everything is going well. I went here on Mother's Day with my family and they loved it, my dad could not stop complimenting the food he ordered and he said he wanted to come back and we came back today, I ordered the pho tai and nam because I wanted to venture out (I usually get pho bo vien) and it was SO GOOD the meat was perfect and the broth tasted so amazing if I wasn't so full I would've drank the whole thing. The service was also really good the girl that was our waiter was really nice and the bathroom was really clean and nice. Overall it was a really nice environment and I would recommend coming here! Being vegetarian it's difficult to find pho restaurants with Vegetarian Pho Broth - well this place has it! They even have a vegetarian section on the menu. The wait staff is friendly and the place is clean. I get my soup with less noodles and extra veggies + soft (not fried) tofu. Yummy yummy in my tummy tummy. read more
