The Combination Pho #1 (sans Tripe which I'm not the biggest fan of) ... oh my God how rich and bold is the beef broth which is prepared more than 10 hours in advance) There were no bean sprouts because the shipment they received were not fresh enough for their standards so they threw it out and ordered a new shipment but it didn't arrive in time for the lunch time. Verdict: Whoa! That's a lotta Pho! Seriously, beware the temptation to get the large bowl. The large is comically big and you're either a professional eater or you'll have some leftovers. I got the #1 Combination and, of course, I got the large. Luckily, most of us got the big bowls so we just say back and laughed at our new found pho fortunes. You could certainly taste it but the broth wasn't overly salty. I enjoyed my choice, though is probably go with something with fewer meats next time. I'm not quite sold on tripe yet. They give you a dish of limes, basil, bamboo shoots, and jalapenos to mix in as you like. The long noodles and metal chopsticks will test your skills, while the variety in the #1 combo will test your tastebuds. I would never have known walking in here that I would have such great meal. This place has a pretty simple menu. A few rice dishes, pho and some house specials. My boyfriend comes here all the time and he was so excited to take me. Since he got some soup I decided to get some basil fried rice with shrimp. Wow. This was some of the best fried rice I've ever had and they did not skimp on the shrimp. I think I had about 8 to 10 Shrimp in my lunch portion. As for the pho it was delicious and flavorful and everything that you would hope for. Service was extremely fast the prices were great and the food was really good. I popped in for a late lunch, I was seated and the only person in the restaurant. The personnel in the place were kind of neutral in personality and friendliness, that being said I wasn't put off by it. Stopped here on a recent jaunt to OC. It was a cold day and we had just walked the length of the boardwalk and back, and we thought pho would hit the spot. And it did. The space is attractive, sleek and clean. Plenty (almost too much) room in the booths, but we were comfortable. Service was consistently friendly and attentive. They were more than happy to substitute more vegetables in place of the noodles in one of our pho. We both had only pho (no appetizers). While the prices were admittedly a bit higher than we are used to, we found the flavor of the broth complex and tasty, and didn't really mind the slightly higher charge. The meat was tender and delish. One of my favorite Vietnamese dishes to get is bun, but I noticed that they did not have it on the menu. Fancy inside. This isn't your typical strip mall pho place. This is a place to go out to dinner. High ceilings, Booths and wood and a counter. Take away and seats. 5. SERVICE TOP NOTCH. Our server was excellent. Easy to understand, polite, checked in on us a few times. Not a single problem. The table of two next to us was incredibly rude from arguing the moment they sat about the fact there is not free tea offered through their meals and treating our server in a condescending manner and borderline abusive. Completely out of line and our guy was so calm at dealing with the jerks. So impressive. What else? Our food was packaged to go for us without question. They even accommodated the baby stroller. The inside of this Vietnamese place was nicely decorated, a bit more upscale then typical but we chose a booth towards the back and our view to the left was the bar filled with supplies like napkins and silverware and some personal items of the restaurant staff, so it wasn't very pleasant to look at. Also it was an area used by a staff member to prep to go orders so again, not very pleasing or relaxing. This should be done out of the main room not at the bar in front of customers eating, imo. The food was very good though. I modified a dish on the menu to no spice, no Thai basil and although it took several conversations (server didn't write anything down) including my husband getting up to double check the server got it correct, and then he came back to ask again and had it wrong, but eventually it was clear and my dish arrived as I requested. Basically I ordered shrimp fried rice (not spicy no Thai basil) and it was very good. Husband got the Pho with flank steak and he was very happy with it. This place was really good. Service was fast and friendly and the food was flavorful. Atmosphere is nice and clean. Modern and updated with low lighting. It didn't bother my husband and I at all, but I know some people wrote in their reviews that it was too dark. We also went during the day so that probably helped . For appetizers we ordered the Vietnamese rolls and summer rolls. I don't recommend the Vietnamese rolls. The flavor is ok but they're tiny. Not worth 5 bucks imo. The summer rolls however were good and worth it. My husband even enjoyed them and he normally doesn't like the rice paper rolls. For our main course we both ordered the brisket pho, large and regular size. The broth is very tasty and not overpowering. If you find it bland, just put a couple squirts of hoisin sauce that's on the table. It gives it more body. There was a healthy serving of meat and noodles which were also very good. Definitely a thumbs up for the pho. We also ordered the shrimp basil fried rice. The waiter gave us the wrong order and we got the grilled shrimp dish instead. I brought it to his attention and he gave us the dish free of charge and put in our order of the basil fried rice right away. I thought that was very nice of him. He was the one who offered it, I didn't even need to say anything. He absolutely redeemed himself going above and beyond for his mistake. The shrimp basil fried rice is excellent. It was my favorite dish. The shrimp in both dishes were nice and big too and cooked to perfection. I definitely recommend this place and will be back.
