This is the best restaurant in Minden/Gardnerville and our go-to when we eat out. The owner is a really nice, hard-working man and the rest of the staff are great too. The food rivals the best Vietnamese restaurants in the Bay Area, with fresh ingredients, authentic dishes, amazing flavors and elegant presentation. You can tell that they really take pride in their work. Clearly there is a reason why we are regulars at Pho Chopstix! I will say that from what I've seen their Chinese food is not the best. Service- terrible! First one of the server told us to booth seat his cleaning. Then another server(old guy or maybe the owner) told us transfer to the other booth seat. Second we are ordering our food the server ( old guy) is like in a hurry getting our order. Food- the pho is good but the egg rolls are already cold. This place was the most incredible Chinese food I've ever had and it was a complete accident that we stumbled upon it! On our way home from topaz lake we stopped for a quick bite and walked in to a delicious smell and clean tables, we were given some ice water right away and our order was taken quickly. The service was fast and wonderful. I ordered the general shrimp with fried rice and my boyfriend ordered the house special chow fun. Both were hot and fresh and the quality was impeccable, the flavors were exquisite and the ingredients were high quality. The food is good,everything is clean, but one thing troubles me. Their fish bowl looks pike to be about 4 gallons. It contains 6 goldfish and one adult common pleco. Adult plecos need 75 gallons of water. One of the goldfish is being abused and has swelling in its side. read more

It's very nice and clean. I got the curry chicken and fried rice, it was good, as was the egg roll they put on the plate. The reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because, two people left to get fresh veggies, with their aprons on. This was my first time here. Not impressed at all. I ordered the shrimp in lobster sauce. When I got it I had to add Red Rooster hot sauce for taste. It was also mostly peas and carrots. The beef and broccoli was also tasteless and had to add hot sauce to it too just for taste. The ice tea was nothing but colored water. Service? The waiter never came back to check on us or to give us refills. The gentlemen had a habit of standing in the back by the register staring at the few customers that were in the restaurant. I usually with in a group and the staff move tables to accommodate everyone. It has never been too packed here, but it takes awhile to be attended by the staff, which isn't great if you're in a rush. The service overall isn't wonderful. After ordering, you don't get much or any attention. When food did start to arrive they came at different times. It just made things a little awkward because half the party had food and every few minutes a new plate would appear. Overall, the service got the job done but was sub-par. The pho, however, is pretty tasty. It comes with the usual fixings of bean sprouts, basil, jalapeños, and limes. The meal fulfilled my craving for the delicious broth but most of the bowl was broth and noodles, not too much of the veggies. I got a small bowl size and it was just enough for lunch. Others seemed to enjoy their food so it looks like their non-pho meals taste pretty good as well. Don't be afraid to ask for a box if you need one, they provide them if you ask. The menu has a good sized selection of meals to try, along with pictures to make you start drooling. The menus have little chopsticks on them, but those don't come off. They're just cute. read more

Today I got my usual, the spring rolls with pork (seriously...you need to try these), but I wanted to try something new. It was a really hot day so I wasn't really feeling like anything super hot, soupy or greasy. I decided to give #42 a try (Dried Vermicelli Noodles with Flame Broiled Chicken and Eggrolls). I am so glad I gave this a try. To put it in simple terms, it was like a HUGE spring roll in a bowl. It was exactly what I needed, not greasy at all, fresh and refreshing. I have been coming for their Vietnamese plates and have loved it. I branched out and tried the chicken Pad Thai and loved it. I'm gonna start trying new items. I'm from the Bay Area so I appreciate authentic Vietnamese rice and noodle plates, and these are great. Amazing food for a brand new business! The service was incredible. I had just stepped in the door with a friend and we were both promptly addressed by numerous employees. The space is large, airy, and very welcoming. The menu is very extensive and everything tasted was incredible from the plum wine to espresso coffee to crab Rangoon and the pho itself. ABSOLUTELY RUDE AND DISGUSTING PEOPLE WORK HERE. Don't even try to set foot at this establishment. The ambiance of the restaurant and the personality of the staff sucks. I know some people don't like customer service but geez these people are the epitome of horrible customer service. There was a young guy walking around like he was upset to be serving people, rudely asked how many people and pointed at a table for us to sit at. The older guy that was there came up to our table and asked if we were ready and we told him we just needed a few more minutes because we just sat down. He had a really bad smell to him, especially when he talked. When he came back, he just said "k" and had his little notebook and hands crossed in front of him. When we placed our first order, we asked him to not add the toppings listed because we have a member in our party who wanted it plain. It isn't even a hard request and EVERY SINGLE pho place we go to have no problem with it at all. He pauses and said "What?". I pointed at the menu and showed him what their menu said and his response was "I don't understand" and just proceeded to cross his hands in front of him again and looked up. At this point my husband and I were getting irritated, not only at how they were to us but also at how they were like to the older customers. The rude employees were giving them attitude and taking forever getting the customers what they wanted that they had to ask several times for their request. Total waste of space. If you're the owner/manager of this place and want to stand up for your employees, you should definitely consider closing your doors and have someone with better work ethic and business take over. read more

Finally a good Asian restraunt in Gardnerville! Great food! They havn't been open long but already a packed house! I had the beef chow fun. Love me some rice noodles! To my pleasant surprise, they use the fresh rice noodles instead of the dehydrated kind. Very hard to find outside a big city. Despite how busy they were, the food came out fast. This is my go to restaurant at work when I want some Pho, I usually stick with the chicken but my coworkers are far more adventurous and always enjoy theirs as well. The broth is flavorful and they give you many goodies to fix the soup up to your preference. I've ordered some of their appetizers a few times and they've been good. Bad...just bad. The restaurant cleanliness and atmosphere were on point and the staff was very friendly. The food on the other hand was a completely different animal. I had the combination pho (31A) which is my usual at any pho restaurant. I love the Vietnamese meatballs and the tripe. The broth was bland and the noodles were impossible to eat with chopsticks as they kept falling apart (a sign they had been cooked way in advance and refrigerated. If you have ever eaten left over spaghetti you know what I am talking about). As is standard in most pho establishments, the combination is only offered in the "large" size. The portion size was what I have come to expect as the "regular" portion in any other pho restaurant I have eaten. Barely any noodles or meat. My children had the chicken fried rice which was absolutely abysmal. The second it was delivered to the table my wife commented on the off putting smell. The chicken was rubbery, flavorless, and had an almost boiled quality to it. The rice was overcooked and extremely greasy. My wife had the barbecue pork fried rice. The pork was burned and dry and again the overcooked rice was swimming in a pool of oil. Now on to my biggest complaint. MSG! I am allergic to one food item and one food item only. Monosodium glutimate. Upon finishing my meal I immediately began a violent allergic reaction. I have only ever reacted this way to MSG. My four year old daughter who also has the allergy immediately asked me to run her to the restroom as she felt that she was going to vomit, Needless to say we threw out the leftovers and will never return, Very disappointed as I would have loved to have pho close to home. My friend and I have been here twice and both times we enjoyed the food. Portion sizes are good, the staff is friendly and though their English is not the best, I have no problems understanding them. The first time we visited, I had the chicken and vegetables. I was hoping for something more like a chicken and broccoli dish in a brown sauce but this was in a white sauce so I was kind of disappointed momentarily. However, once I dug in, I really liked the dish. Everything was fresh and cooked well. On the second trip I tried the house chow mein and it is as close to heaven on earth as I think I will ever get. I got a Pho to go because my family felt like relaxing at home. I like it hot so I reheated it at home and added the raw beef that cooked in about 15 seconds. Put in some hoisin sauce for flavor and jalapeños. Put in the onions, sprouts, cilantro, and basil leaves. The jalapeños give it a kick so don't add if you don't want the heat. Tasted great! This food is good for your immune system and health. This is way better than the fast food places that stores the food in a cardboard box on the freezer shelf for years.
