We decided to try this new pho restaurant near Vietnam Town and quickly regretted our decision. I ordered "Pho Dac Biet" with no white onions and ordered cooked beansprouts. My pho came out loaded with white onions. When I told them my order was wrong, they brought a bowl of pho with no vegetables. What I told them I didn't want white onions, not plain pho, they brought out a bowl of unchopped cilantro. About the cooked beansprout, when we told them we ordered cooked beansprout, they took the beansprout and never brought back or attempted to fix it. A simple order was made complicated - with mediocre pho, it was not worth the irritations caused. There are so many pho options within walking distance, First and last visit for us. read more

Came here on a Saturday night around 9:40 to pick up dinner. The phone doesn't work so I couldn't place an order over the phone. I ordered two pho tai meat balls and one pho special. The total came out to around $60 which is now the going rate for pho. I had one order with fresh noodles and the other two uncooked. I was very disappointed with the portions. Usually anywhere else you can usually share an order but with what I got, it was barely enough for one person. Came here on Sunday noon, the place was about 80% full. We got a table right away. We ordered their special Pho $19.50 each with regular noodle. It came out pretty fast. The beefy aroma of the broth was intoxicating. The broth was well balanced savory just how I like it. The meat in it was so good and tender. Everything was good. The AC was nice and cold inside which was perfect for eating hot pho. According to my mom, the restroom was very clean and new. Inside the restaurant was nice and clean. The table and chairs were comfortable for us. Outside has plenty of parking spaces. The price was a little bit high but we got quality beef and broth. I do wish they gave us a little bit more noodle for this price. Lastly, the metal spoon was uncomfortable for my mouth. I wish the spoon was more rounded. Service was simple, fast, and good. Basically, they took ours order and bought out ours Pho and let us eat in peace. When we were done eating then we walked up to the cashier counter tell them ours table number and paid accordingly. When this place first opened, it was actually great--pho broth that was steaming hot with a rich, inviting aroma, good service, and decent portions. But now? It's gone downhill fast. They've clearly gotten too comfortable with their popularity. The last three times I've eaten here, the broth started lukewarm and barely held its temperature 1/3 of the way through the bowl. The meat portions have shrunk significantly, and the broth? Bland. This isn't pho anymore; it's just some generic beef noodle soup pretending to be something special. The service has also taken a nosedive. One server messed up our order, and instead of apologizing, they gave us attitude, like we were the problem. At $20 a bowl, this place isn't just underwhelming--it's a flat-out rip-off. Mediocre at best, and that's being generous. Nice and warm decoration; however, the price is very expensive for a bowl of Pho. Unfortunately, the flavor of Pho here doesn't meet my expectations of what a good traditional bowl of Pho would taste like. It lacks a lot of traditional Vietnamese spices, ie cardamom, star anise, cloves, coriander seeds. Taste is more Americanized. We came party of 6, and there are 2 parties of 3 in front. We all wait a bit, the other two got table first, of course, no question ask. We waited another 10mins but no one even come out to check us in or anything, more people coming with party of 2 and 3 and got table. We came in to let them know we are waiting, then the young boy waitress just said " not table at the moment", and then another 2 people come and got table. I grew up in Vietnam. This place was meh at best. The broth tasted diluted, the condiments were skimpy, and the table I sat was wet with a recent wipe off. But had a sour vinegary smell-indicative of a rag that was fermented (not cleaned). Yes the place looks posh. The prices are on the high side with not so generous amount of noodles. I guess you are paying for the decor. The taste doesn't come even close to Pho Tayho, Pho To Chau, or Pho Nhy. read more

I saw a review about this place on instagram and it really made me want to check this place out. So along with my sidekick, my two yr old son, we went and ordered the oxtail and rare steak pho along with the young coconut drink and a watermelon drink. The pho was delicious, the broth so savory, and the watermelon drink was so fresh and good. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to my son and I. I went to try this place with my big family recently, and everyone liked the pho here a lot. (It may have unseated our previous SJ favorite spots). It's pricier than other places, but the portion is generous and they pay more attention to ambience and service than a typical pho joint. I had the special combo, and all the meat elements were perfectly executed both in taste and texture served with fresh noodle and all the right herbs and condiments. The broth is slightly less fragrant than my personal preference, but tasty. I don't think there were any broth left in my bowl. The 'fanciest' pho shop/restaurant that I've ever been to. Even the chopsticks has metal detailing on them, and the soup spoons are metal, not the plastic ones we all have come to expect at most Chinese/Vietnamese noodle shops. The menu here is extremely streamlined (no rice dishes, no appetizer - like spring rolls). They just serve pho and varying degrees of it. I had the pho tai chin (rare flank with brisket). You have the choice of the thin, flat noodles or another variety (not vermicelli). GO WITH THE THIN, FLAT ONES! They are made fresh. The broth is incredibly 'clean'... no oiliness or MSG flavor. Tasted like someone carefully monitored the simmering of it for a long, long time. The service was very fast and the food came out quick. The quality of the meat was incredibly tender and tasted of high quality beef. And overall, the ambiance was...dare I say... on the classy side? They had jazz playing in the background and the overall looked very nicely put together and modern. SLOWEST pho restaurant in San Jose. Pros: - Ambiance. Vibes are kinda nice, not the typical pho place. - Fresh (big flat) noodles are complimentary. - Meat. The Tai and Bo Vien I had were good. - Real Sriracha. Kind of crazy to call this a pro, but some places have fake/nasty Sriracha (cough cough Pho Ha Noi) Cons: - Slow as molasses. Went before the lunch rush (at half occupancy) and it took 5 minutes to be seated and nearly 40 minutes to get my pho after sitting. Constantly having to flag down workers because they won't automatically come to you. - Order queuing. This didn't apply to me because I ate alone and ordered 1 item, but the amount of tables I saw with half the party still waiting for food was astounding. This one person (in a party of 2) was waiting for his pho for like 20 minutes after the other person at his table got their bowl. That's just terrible if you ask me. - Metal spoons. Probably the thing I hate most about trendy new pho places. Pho spoons should be plastic or ceramic, not scorching hot metal. - Water. Completely forgot they never served me water. I guess you need to ask for it. - [Edit] I forgot about Price. It's a little expensive at $19, but not uncommon nowadays. If you're looking for a good, fast, and cheap bowl of Pho, expect to pay around $15. If you're looking for ambiance, $19 is the ballpark. I don't really care for ambiance when it comes to Pho and unfortunately there's not much to justify spending that much for a bowl here. Considerations: - Some might consider the soup on the "Bland" or "Light" side, almost like that free side of broth you get at some Com Tam places. It's definitely just their style of pho and not an indication of quality. If you're used to clean and rich broth like from Pho Papa, this ain't it. I prefer rich broth, too, but I actually found myself drinking the entire bowl because of how light it was. This is NOT a pro or con. - The ONLY deal breaker for me is how slow they are. I can't be waiting 40+ minutes just to get my food when I'm on my lunch break. Pho should take 10 minutes MAX, especially when it's not even the lunch rush. Most places I go to serve you within a few minutes. That being said, they seem to be a newish restaurant, so maybe this is a kink they still are figuring out. - If they figure out their speed of service, I will come back and change my review. It took me years to find a good pho place in San Jose ever since I moved to the Bay. Their pho is absolutely amazing! It's perfectly balanced, not too salty, and definitely doesn't have that overpowering MSG flavor like so many other spots. This restaurant is totally on point! The vibe is super chill, the place is spotless, and the service? So friendly and fast! I am totally obsessed with their chili sauce! Clean, good food and service. Their pho is very special because I have never tried "Pho Bac" and I didn't know how it tasted. For the first sip, I was surprised because it's different from the one I had eaten in Sai Gon. Pho Bac doesn't come with black sauce or sriracha. Instead of the black sauce, it comes with garlic and hot sauce. I'm so happy to find this place where I would like to have a Pho Bac. I do not recommend it to someone who likes a sweet taste because the taste of food from North Vietnam will be more salty than that from the South or West. I will definitely be back. read more

Came here with a few friends after seeing the hype on social media. Was impressed by the interior (not my personal cup of tea but it looks like some thought was put into it). Only pho is on the menu so don't come here looking for something else. The broth tasted much cleaner than your typical pho spots in the bay - it was good but I prefer mine a little dirtier. Downside and reason for 3 stars is that English is extremely limited. Yes I'm in "little Saigon" but we're still in America. They ask if you want thin or thick noodles, I've had thick before and I prefer thin so I asked for it; they gave me thick anyway. There are no numbers for the different types of pho they had so when they brought the bowls out we had to check what meats were in the bowl ourselves to see which order was ours. That's our first impression: beautiful decoration, nice tables, nice and comfy chairs. Everything seems to belong to each other and matched beautifully. You can tell the owner puts a lot of effort as well as attention to details to everything. From nice condiments to the servers quickly taking order and double checked everything before walking away... We ordered the following: 1. Phở Đặc Biệt (5+ stars): light and very flavorful broth. All the meats are very tender and of good quality. The bò viên is also excellent. Portion is not too large but good. 2. Phở Tái Bầm Đập: (4.5 stars): same excellent broth as above. The beef is good however it's not sautéed before adding to the phở as other restaurant that we had so it's not as fragrant. Same portion size as mentioned above. 3. Cà phê trứng (5 stars): strong and rich. I love it! 4. Services (5 stars) Overall, we are very happy with this new addition to our favorite restaurants. With beautiful ambiance and decor, top notch foods, fast and attentive service, and reasonable prices with an upscale feel you can't go wrong with this restaurant. Very expensive for a Vietnamese bowl of phở. 2 people for two bowl with tax and tip about $50. They also give very little noodle. The broth was not hot so when you add the veggies, the broth became lukewarm. Their fresh noodles are not that of other phở places. Phở Đang fresh noodle is a bit dry and does not have that fresh noodle smell. The broth is also a bit bland with little or no aromatic smell of phở. The ambiance is nice and clean due the fact it is still new. Overall, it is ok but would not come return due to high price and little food in a giant bowl with little aroma of phở. read more
