The servers are super nice and on point, and often ask if you want your food spicy (I usually decline on the spice). Every time I have gone I have had subpar service. The atmosphere is a nice relaxing vibe, but either we get sat and have to wait upwards of 10-15 minutes for drink orders. Just to receive the incorrect drink, or food comes out super super late. I'm talking 30-40 with nobody in the restaurant. Overall I feel like the service could absolutely be better, however I did rate this place 5 stars for one specific reason. The pho here is absolutely incredible. They fry cooked noodles and top it off with ample vegetables and meat of your choosing, and when you can't choose - you don't have to. Food orders come out fast and hot. In addition to the pan fried rice noodles, PKL does well with the usual Viet-fare. Their Bahn Mi is tasty...but one may not be enough. The same can be said about the spring and summer rolls. This review is for a to go order. Though I am excited to see how the dine in service is. Call- five star. Wasn't even put on hold. Call taker finished my sentences and knew the menu very well when i only had pieces of information about what I wanted. The wait- I was told 15 minutes but the order was actually completed in about 13. Yes I time these. It's important to know how the staff deals with a packed dining room while getting orders online and over the phone. The portions per price- we live in a time of supply shortages and rising costs. I'll spare you the politic talk but I won't spare you on the details here. For the price, quality of food and portion that you get I will say this was great. Though I only got 3 shrimp, they were cooked delightfully. Usually when I get combination fried rice elsewhere the shrimp can sometimes have a unappealing texture. This however was amazing. Same goes for the chicken and beef that accompanied it. Very well cooked! Not gummy. Not hard to chew through. Amazing job team! I also very much enjoyed the dumplings as well. I'm a steamed fan over fried but that's just me. One more thing. Lately at the completion I've had to add excessive amounts of soy sauce to my dish. This was the first time I a LONG time that my dinner did not need the addition of any sauce, cream, garnish, etc. Perfect meal for someone who just finished their 6 day work week. It's hard to believe that I've lived here close to a decade and haven't tried Pho Kim Long. I feel like I have been missing out this entire time, because this place has the best pho in San Antonio. Service is fast and definitely not in your face. They let you eat in peace, but are attentive and come and fill water when you need it. The broth is savory and just the right amount of salty. The meat is delicious (especially the rare steak). This is definitely cheaper than other pho places in town and the portion size is phenomenal. I also never get appetizers except at this place. The dumplings are delicious. I love the lightness of the wrapper. I don't feel like I'm eating predominately flour. The dipping sauce is great. I actually save it for the meat in the pho when I finish the dumplings. Lastly, the bahn mi. Approximately $6 and worth it. The grilled pork is marinated perfectly and the bread is soft.
