Pho kim is my current favorite pho joint right now. They have quick and friendly service and quick wait times. I've never seen this place empty! Always get the super bowl it has such great flavor.. I just wish they weren't so stingy on the meat portions; it's always a hit or miss. Their crab in tofu wrap is so delicious, I love eating wrapped with lettuce. Definitely a spot I take the family often until a better one pops up. My suggestion is to add more meat to your bowls of pho, don't skimp! read more

They have a good sized parking lot and there is plenty of room for large groups. Our party of 10 was seated quickly and the waiter brought hot tea and ice water within moments. Our orders came out pretty fast. The báhn bèo was so good! They added just the right amount of toppings. The chicken wings were crispy and spicy. I'm definitely impressed with this Pho place. There are so many in Portland and it's hard to choose from one because you can't really go wrong. They're all pretty authentic and high quality. I'm yet to have a bad bowl of Pho. I feel like the majority of the reviews are either foodies or total snobs with too high of standards. Feel free to disagree if you want, but look at the other reviews first. Don't let bad reviews hold you back from stopping in to Pho Kim. Honestly, this is probably the best Pho i've had. I went all out and got pretty much every meat in my soup because that's how I roll. Even the tripe. Yeah, it's got a weird texture and isn't for everyone, but the soup more than makes it tolerable. My ideal bowl has all the meat, a dash of sriracha, chili oil, plum sauce, and mix. Fantastic. Guaranteed to clear you out! My only minor complaint was that it was a bit old fashioned and a bit unorganized. Not a deal killer in the slightest but it was something I noticed pretty much immediately. read more

The older owner is ok, but the totally uninterested fellow who sat us didn't look me in the eyes at all, barely spoke, left my 3 year old son and I with our menu for 15 whole minutes (any parent knows what I mean and it's UNHEARD OF at a pho joint - known for their speed), then when they finally got our food out, they didn't give us ANY extra bowl (gave me a funny look when I asked) or utensils for my son and brought entirely the wrong pho. That was it, I got up and paid for my coffee and the fresh rolls we ate, the older fellow didn't use any active listening, just "sorry boss", purely trying to get us out of the restaurant. In this day and age, we cannot afford to support businesses that do not see the people who move through them. I love noodles, especially Asian, have my favorites and keep trying others. Wasn't trying Pho Kim largely cause of the name. But it's very good. Had the Bun Bo Hue--with everything. An interesting fishy, oil side flavor to it. Just hot enough for me. Generous amount of meats, you might want more noodles but i was stuffed, & the noodles stayed firmish all the way through. Mike enjoyed his Pho #4, and Abby's rice bowl was brimming over with edibles. A little slow on refilling the tea, but quick and friendly service. The pho and the dish my husband got were both good. The options are limited though when it comes to pho. Service was prompt even though the place was busy. At the end we didn't know we were supposed to go up to pay... We tried grabbing a waiter several times to no avail. Eventually we walked around and asked someone. The food was good and I hate to have this be our impression but we both were ridiculously ill the next day. Pretty sure it was possibly some left over dish soap on the plates or something. Dunno. Do you know, Pho? Then you already know Pho Kim. If not then let me introduce you to the best Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup this side of Hanoi. Pho Kim is situated in an older mid-century(?) classic restaurant building on where else? 82nd Ave near Division. It is a no bull, getter done noodle 'n soup house smack dab in the middle of the East Side. They have THE Best Beef Noodle Soup in Portland, hands down. They also have some of the best beef stew with Bahn I've ever tasted. Their Bun is not too shabby either. Hell, their entire menu is quite fantastic, I must say. However the bubble teas and shakes are not the best I've had. Guo Cuon? Also, fantastic. Service is fast & friendly and their prices are not to be beat. Not much more to say except that the building they're in is really classy and clean, I love the huge windows looking out on to 82nd Ave. The big red five stars are for their serious Pho flavor, and the trifecta -quality, service, and price. Grand opening deal from June 19-23 BOGO on all pho dishes from 1-7! Doesn't get any better then BOGO on pho! I only paid 7.50 for a two person meal what a deal. Since they have such a great offer all the Asians in the area are here so expect a wait. (Waited about 25 minutes) and if you're really unlucky they might run out of food, on the first day they had to close the restaurant early (4pm) because they ran out of ingredients! Today I went they ran out of broth! So a recommendation would to be come earlier and also come in through the door near 82nd not the one by the parking lot, you'll get seated faster there. I'm an avid pho eater and coming here for BOGO on pho was a great idea, really recommend get a bowl or two here! We will see what happens after they finish the deal because they are opened so close to other pho places such as their sister restaurant pho hung. read more

I've finally been branching out lately for pho, beyond my usual Pho Hung and Pho Oregon, and I think Pho Kim ("Pho Kim? I hardly know him!") is solidly in my top 3 pho spots. I'll be honest though, no pho joint in Portland has yet to match up to Than Brothers in Seattle. Why no free cream puffs at any Portland pho joints? I like the #5 pho here, and usually get the salad rolls too. The broth is very nice, and they don't skimp on the slices of meat. And the large bowl is only 75 cents more than the small, so I say go for the large. The Super/Special size is big enough to bathe a baby in. I also really like the decor of the place, it's much nicer than it looks when you're driving by on 82nd. Big roomy booths, and not overly-air-conditioned like Pho Hung is normally. read more

Food was decent at best. Service is sub par. I ordered the Bun Do Hue. The soup was kind of bland and flavorless. I was hoping the broth to be a bit spicy and there was no spiciness whatsoever. What a let down. To make matters worse, when the waiter delivered my bowl, he spilled the broth on my shorts which has permanently stained it. Alright, Im not gonna lie. The only reason why I went to Pho Kim was because its pronounced like "Fuck Him" and I have the humor of a 12 year old. When I went in, I was like "Fuck me, this place is pretty damn good." The inside is very nice and very clean. Our host and order taker was the suave ass old Vietnamese guy who looked a lot like Arnold Schwarzenegger. The service was very fast and very friendly. The food was great. Nothing out of the ordinary for a pho place, but it tasted good and was reasonably priced. I ordered beef pho and my lady ordered lemon grass chicken. To be honest, hers tasted better than mine and I am not a huge fan of lemon grass chicken. The sauce was really good. My pho beef was cooked perfect. Overall, this place is a solid 4 if not 5. My guy is hungover. It's raining. I don't feel like cooking so, let go get some pho! We drove to our regular location only to find out it's closed (probably health code violations!). UGH! We drove up the street (because there are 100's of pho places on 82nd). We pulled into the Pho Kim. I will totally agree with a previous comment. The parking lot is creepy but big. There is a front and back entrance. We went in the back door and were seated promptly with a smile. The place is huge with lots of seating. I think it used to be a Carrows or Shari's or something like that. We ordered the salad rolls. Pork was cooked well. I liked the peanut sauce because it wasn't super runny. We also ordered the egg rolls. To our suprise they served it with lettuce to wrap around the roll and eat it the traditional way! I ordered a small Pho #3 (no tendon or tripe). The broth was delicious and so full of flavor! My husband ordered the large Super Bowl. He scarffed it down. This place is even better than the one that we used to go to. Wow, this place has changed since the days it was Carrows Restaurant! The last time I ate at this location it was Pearl Saigon and the inside still looked like Carrows. Carrows, no more! Pho Kim owners have come in, stripped the place, and had it redone to look more like a pho restaurant. There are comfy booths that seat 4 (maybe 6 petite people) and tables and chairs which have nice finishes. The pho was tasty. I got the small pho tai and nam (I don't know what those are in English... I think tai is raw flank?). My friend order for me when he got there so I never saw how the menu looked like. Thus, I cannot comment on their menu and how comprehensive or lacking it is. They brought out hue (basil), ngo gai (sawtooth cilantro), lime and jalapeno slices... the norm. The bean sprouts were brought out steamed. SHIVERS. Ok, I got their late, so I don't know if that was requested. But, I cannot stand the smell of steamed bean sprouts. As I child, the water bean sprouts where boiled in was given to me as a remedy for lost voice (which works folks!!!), BUT it also scarred me fo lyfeeee. The smell haunts me. That's the only part of my meal that really sucked. That's personal preference though, I just prefer my sprouts raw and not nauseating. Overall, this place has good pho. Parking was ample and service appeared quick. I do wish they had better ventilation system because I left there smelling like a big ol' bowl of pho. Finally a really good Pho place out on the 82nd area. It's been a long while since I've had really good tasty pho. Many places I thought that used to be good has been sub par lately. The quality for Pho Kim is a lot better than other places. Apparently this is the same owner who used to own other pho places before selling them off to other people. Had the B2 which was the pork and shrimp vermicelli. Tasted very well and the noodles were cooked just right. The pork was cooked and seasoned well. For the amount I paid I thought it was a deal at $8.75. The restaurant used to be an old American grill place, I can't remember the old name of it. The place has been remodeled with contemporary paint and has a nice feel to it. Unfortunately the restaurant restrooms don't have a changing table for a baby who just ripped one in the diaper. I've ate here about 3 times now and I always order the pho ga w/fresh chopped chicken. Each and every time it came out fast, hot, and tasted great. The service here is pleasant and fast. The place is clean and nicely decorated. They even have a sink in the corner where you can wash your hand. I've never seen a place that has a sink near the dinning where people can wash their hands. This used to be a breakfast place a long time ago, the building left vacant for many years. Last year it opened as Pho Kim, with a clean aesthetic, plenty of room (actually this place is huge) lots of parking in the back and all the typical items you would expect to see. As far as the Pho and Vermicelli options go, it's all pretty standard. I wasn't wowed or disappointed. The broth has had a few off days, but overall it gets you what you want. I get that most Pho joints don't have customer service in mind, but out of all that I have been to, Pho Kim has the worst service. Snarly waiters/cashiers who give one word answers, don't look at you, ignore your requests or just walk away. After my sixth visit or so, I just decided to give up on this place. This is one of those TARDIS-like places: unassuming, small, and slightly grungy on the outside but full of awesomeness inside. Be warned, though: this isn't a beginner's pho place. The staff is nice, but you're not at the cutesy Asian Fusion bistro next to Pottery Barn. The interior has been completely redone and is clean, open, and spacious feeling. The menu looks great - a variety without trying to please folks who probably shouldn't be there anyway, and decently priced. This place was introduced to me from a close friend. I used to go to only Oregon Pho but this place is actually ok! I actually think all the pho places are almost the same! It's just bone soup with I am sorry tons of msg and we all know it and can't deny that it's what we are eating! But seriously the place is good and the drink gal is as sweet as the drinks she makes! She is the nicest person though! I like the place cuz it's very spacious and you don't feel so cramped in a small place! The food is your typical Vietnamese food no fusion here just one type of good food! The rice dishes are good and the soup is hearty! No complaints about the workers or the food only once in awhile complaints of other customers! Went there for dinner with large group of friends, wasn't very busy at the time so we had a table the instant we got there. I ordered C2 (No idea how to pronounce any of the dishes) but it was $9.75 for a dish of pork, rice, this egg cake thing, some shredded meats and a bowl of soup. I got quite a bit for the price and enjoyed the flavor. The environment was very family style, and having flat screen TVs showing some sport games was an added bonus. Despite our large group they didn't throw in a forced tip (some restaurants I went to automatically put a 20% tip on top of the bill) of course we all still tipped them generously, but I like how they don't force that tip upon you. The servers were very nice and very accommodating, whenever they see a glass half empty they would fill it right back up within minutes (unless you request otherwise).
