I went here for the first time this week. I ordered the spring rolls ( goi cuon and bi cuon). Both were very fresh. I liked the bi cuon much more. The bi was not fatty. It had such a nice flavor of roasted rice. The lime fish sauce was very savory, though a bit on the salty side. The sauce for the goi cuon was not great though. Too much hoisin sauce and not quite enough peanut sauce. I was pleasantly surprised that the roll stayed fresh until the day after. The rice paper did not dry out like most places. I had it and it tasted just as fresh as the moment I ordered it. I'm impressed! On my second visit, I ordered the noodle dish with grilled pork. Omg! So fresh, tasty and yummy! The presentation was lovely with the roasted peanuts, pickled shredded carrots on the side. I also ordered the sweet rice and white bean che (dessert). This is the best damn Pho I've had in my 12 years in San Diego. You hear about amazing Pho in north park but this is it. Some hole in the wall place and only has like 8 small tables inside but what matters is what happens in the kitchen. My girlfriend is vegetarian and she's even agreed they have the best vegetarian pho as well. Forgot the name of the dish but you can get up to 6 different pieces of meat in your bowl without any extra charge, it just adds up to a total of certain oz. I discovered that I can put tendons in my pho bowl and so I did. I have never before eaten tendon and not become mildly disappointed in myself for eating tendon in the first place. Their tendon did not seem to have this effect on me. It was soft and delicious. I asked for just water to drink and our waiter said the "water" there was infused with some herbs that I don't remember anymore. Now if you are like me, at this point you would ask for "just water" instead, signaling your disapproval of their attempt to redefine the word water. But then after you see your friends enjoying their version of the water, you are forced to order some of "the water" for yourself. Their water is delicious. The soup itself? I really like this place. Especially since it is down the hill from my work. The Bun Bo Hue is really tasty. The broth isn't as spicy as I would like, but I just added the chili paste and it was fine. The spring rolls were fresh and had great flavor. The ice coffees were perfect. The service is awesome. They are very nice and helpful. They take orders on their little iPads, which is pretty cool. The place is clean. The menu is limited but it covers all the favorite/staples of Vietnamese food. My boyfriend and I decided to stop by here since it is close to the Humane Society where I volunteer. The place was small but had a nice modern feel and their food is reasonably priced. The waitress that greeted us was very nice. We ordered some egg rolls and pho tai and the service was great. The broth was watered down and my boyfriend noticed that there were more noodles in his large serving than usual. He also wanted a Pepsi to which the server went back to get one only to come back with a root beer. She didn't even stop to correct him and say, "Sorry. We only have Coke." No, she came back with a root beer! Then we were confused and he said to her, "Wait but this is a root beer, not a Pepsi." To which she replied, "No, this is not beer it's a soda! The second pho restaurant I tried in San Diego and it is a winner! Run by a Vietnamese family and they make very good pho and food in general. The water they serve is lime cucumber mint water which is great and the vegetables are all very fresh which makes a huge difference in pho places. In the 3 weeks I have been here I've eaten here 3 times. Twice eating the combo pho with filet mignon and spring rolls and once having the beef stew with French bread. The combo pho is great but I wish they gave little more vegetables but I asked for extra sliced onions and they gave that free of charge. The beef stew was very good as well. The prices of the food is super reasonable and borderline cheap for the stuff they have in their pho. I have basically rolled out of the restaurant each time I've eaten here because the portion size is great. Service is quick and efficient and owners are very personable. Something about the flavor and texture of the breading wasn't what I was used to, and wasn't to my liking. One of the things I like about this place is all the staff are very friendly and good service too. I always ask for extra jalapeños etc but they are always kindly serve me whatever I need. I've tried their pho, rice dish, spring rolls, egg rolls ...etc. I've been there couple times but still haven't got to try all their items they have such a variety menu so makes me want to come back more and more.
