Place is modern and clean (got lost getting there - SD has so many one way streets and circling back if one misses entrance is difficult). If you see Starbucks turn into complex. Server is bit short - we ordered fresh noodles but it didn't seem like he gave it to us (at least the noodles didn't taste fresh). Meat is cut bit thick but amount of meat to broth is decent. The broth was tasty but not the best. My daughter ordered the seared ahi tuna - that was bland and disappointing. Decent place but wouldn't go out of way to return. Looking for Pho food and found this place on Yelp. Yelp has been so helpful with our food trips. Coming from Az and looking for something different every time. We had a little Maltese with us and it has been challenging finding outside dining so we can have our little guy with us. Found this place Pho Kitchen. Luckily they had one shaded table outside where we could sit outside with our little guy. It was another beautiful day in San Diego :-) Service was Ok. We ordered the combo where it came with rice or noodles with 2 egg rolls and 2 sides. I had the rice with BBQ pork and bbq shrimp. Came with a side salad. Food from Pho Kitchen usually is descent. Today, the waiter's attitude was the problem. He wasn't paying attention to my question, was not familiar with the item I had a question for, and instead he asked me to read the description in the menu myself. The menu also says customers can add shrimps for $1 but he said I couldn't have the shrimps. My hunch tells me that his rude demeanor was more so towards Asian customers. The food today was just OK, not great - he didn't bring the sprouts, herbs, jalapeño - the good stuff you get whenever you order a noodle soup at a Vietnamese restaurant. Oh my! The delicious flavor of the food here is AMAZING! I got the A3:Bi Cuon Pork Rind Rolls- fresh & flavorful! Also ordered the R9: Banh Mi Bo Kho French origin beef stew- this is where my 6 y/o demonstrates fainting like someone that has been hit by something so amazingly extraordinary! I am beyond words- my mouth & tummy are so happy! I'm so glad I came upon this place whilst doing errands around the area. UPDATE! Okay they've definitely worked on getting the food out faster. Not THAT fast yet but good timing. Improved from 3 to 4 stars because they have a great venue and their food is pretty good. The place is really clean and new. The bathrooms are nice too. It's definitely a step up from a regular sticky pho place. Their pho is good; as in, it really does the job of satisfying a pho craving. I would not say it is the best pho but the venue really boosts it up there. Try the flat noodles! I think they're more fun to eat. This place was so cute and our server was so awesome and attentive and kind. The ambiance of this place is cool af. Really modern and well decorated. They even took our order on a tablet lol hip people. I got the vermicelli bowl with egg rolls, pork, shrimp, beef, chicken and no meat loaf Cus whyyy? It was bomb dot com. If I could I would give zero stars. I ordered pho with brisket for the first time here. To me it was the worst pho I have had. The brisket had so much fat on it it was basically a tiny bit of meat attached to globs of fat. And the meat also had the strongest unpleasant stench, I couldn't even eat the brisket it smelled and looked so unappetizing. It grossed me out. I did eat the pho without the meat. Unfortunately the broth was super salty and heavy/greasy . Eating pho usually feels healthy to me but eating this one felt the opposite. I most definitely WILL NOT be back. read more

For food options down the hill from USD, this is one of my favorites, mostly for the convenience, but also for the tasty bites...it's not my favorite pho in town...it's the closest to my work and home. I've tried a few of the dishes and my favorite is their bun dishes and spring rolls. The pho here is good, no complaints from me! I've also tried other soups and I've decided that the rice and noodle dishes are my fave. If I need a good lunch option (off campus) near work, this place does the trick! Reason for 4-Star Rating: Bathrooms have air blow dryers, and door has key (attached to a large piece of plastic), increasing the chances that you will have to touch unsafe surfaces after washing hands. I solved this dilemma by utilizing toilet paper to carry key and open door. Yes, hand sanitizer is available, but some people have skin conditions which make hand sanitizers extremely difficult to use, because the main ingredient is alcohol, which stings and dries the skin. That being said, try this place if my criticism is of no concern of yours. Food highly recommended. read more

Pretty good Pho here. I was in the area for an event and wanted get something close by. I ordered a large filet mignon pho and added an order of flank steak and an order of tendon. The Pho had good flavor, while all the meats tendons we're tender. There are some places give you big hard pieces, which I'm not a fan of. The servers are friendly and the food came out super quick. The place is located in a mini plaza, so it has decent parking lot. I recommend stopping here if you're in the area. read more

VISUAL AESTHETIC: 5/5 This restaurant is located within The Village at Morena Vista shopping center. The parking is very easy to get to and accessible, with a visible sign. The location of Pho Kitchen is mildly small but suitable, especially amongst the cute and quaint shops. Within the restaurant, a beautiful mango colored sign hangs above the cashier. The decor is very modern and clean, with a simplistic color scheme of white, silver, and dark green. Black and white photographs on black and white photographs on canvas sprinkle the walls along with a few faux potted plants on surfaces. All the tables, plates, glasses, and utensils were clean. The bathroom was also clean and had all amenities, however the sink had an issue with the water running longer than a second. FOOD: 4.7/5 We had a group of four individuals dine together, three who ordered pho and one that ordered a rice plate with a set of fried egg rolls as appetizer. The egg rolls were piping hot and fresh, the stuffing tasting authentic to true Vietnamese dining. The broth of the pho was delicious, did not have a concentration of oil floating like many pho places do, and came out boiling hot. The meat came in a good portion, both for the shrimp and combination pho and was quite tender. The only complaint I shared with the rest of my party was that the noodles had a slight tendency to stick which was sort of odd for me. Other than that, it was delicious. As for the rice plate, everything on it was fresh. The egg rolls were steaming hot, much like the appetizer, the chicken was super tender and was complimented by the sauce. The salad was crisp and had a light dressing that didn't overpower the flavors. Pho Kitchen serves infused water which has mint, lime, cucumber, and melon. Our food came out promptly and we always had our drinks refilled or were asked by our server if we needed anything. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's the best pho in San Diego, but it is good! $.50 for flat noodles which I would only recommend if you are up to trying something a little different. I personally didn't like it because those noodles are typically stir fried or go with a different broth. Broth - clean! solid broth but almost tasted like there wasn't msg. This is not a heavy hearty broth like you would find at a place like pho hoa or pho Cali. I ordered a kids portion as I wasn't super hungry, would be nice if there was an option to have rare steak instead of the well done steak it came with! The chicken was very tender combined with the flat noodles in traditional pho broth was a very comforting combination. The broth was amazing and full of flavor. The spring rolls were made in the Vietnamese traditional style. Refreshing fresh mint, bean sprouts, lettuce, pork and shrimp wrapped in rice paper served with tasty peanut sauce. This is not your average Pho place ya'll. I was looking up places for Pho cause my last few attempts at places in my neck of the woods have been sub-par. The decor is modern/chic much nicer than most Pho places in SD. The mister ordered the #2 ( which is their combo, traditionally #1 everywhere else, he was bothered by this lol) we got is with fresh made noodles (50 cents more) and it was worth it ( just do it) anyway the broth was flavorful without anything added to is, and the meat was probably the best we've had in awhile. I ordered the Cari Ga (chicken Curry) with a toasted Baguette ( you can choose your carb... rice, noodles or bread) it was good, it was a little sweet for my taste but it was still good. The chicken was tender and perfectly cooked. Overall the food quality for a Pho place was above standard. We appreciate the quality ingredients and attention to details in presentation of the dishes. I discovered that I can put tendons in my pho bowl and so I did. I have never before eaten tendon and not become mildly disappointed in myself for eating tendon in the first place. Their tendon did not seem to have this effect on me. It was soft and delicious. I asked for just water to drink and our waiter said the "water" there was infused with some herbs that I don't remember anymore. Now if you are like me, at this point you would ask for "just water" instead, signaling your disapproval of their attempt to redefine the word water. But then after you see your friends enjoying their version of the water, you are forced to order some of "the water" for yourself. Their water is delicious. The soup itself? Pho Kitchen is a nice, quiet restaurant sitting in the heart of the Morena district. I really like the vibe this restaurant gives off -- it's a peaceful contrast to the business of the commuters and businesses it's surrounded by. With that being said, I think the best word I could use to describe this restaurant would be adequate. The people who work here are nice, but not too friendly; the food tastes good but seems to be lacking just a little in flavor. I'm not by any means a Pho critic -- I've only even had Pho a handful of times, so this may be something I should be taking up with the people pulling the strings of the Pho industry rather than this restaurant itself. But I feel like it's worth mentioning. I have plenty of friends who love this restaurant (and are frequent visitors), so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and chalk off my somewhat adequate experience as an outlier. read more
