Keep in mind that this spot is pretty popular within the community so expect some wait times. Wifey and I stopped by for dinner and it was about a 20 minute wait. Inside, they have a typical pho restaurant setup with about 8-10 tables for seating. For their menu, they have a pretty extensive selection of appetizers, pho, noodles, and rice dishes. Wifey and I decided on trying the Grilled Pork Spring Rolls and the Pho Combination Bowl. The pho broth passed the vibe check and the rest of the meal was delicious from there! I'm sad, I came here before at night and it was so good. I raved to it to my wife and told her we had to go. Fast forward now and it just wasn't the same. Some things were similar, broth flavor, quality of the meat, ambience were good. What was lacking was these darn noodles. First it was hard so I'm like ok they're under cooked. But then after 5 mins they were mushy. Is that normal? Kind of ruined the experience. We put the noodles in one bowl and just ate the meat and veggies. Context: Came in on a Monday at 11am right as they opened and was the first party there. Getting seated: There was a piece of something gray in my water cup and a stain on the table but the waiter cleaned the table and replaced the cup immediately upon request. After this, we quickly ordered and got our bowls after a few minutes. Pho broth: Of all the OC pho spots I've had in the area (including Phoholic and pho 79), this one does not begin to compare to the others. The pho was not beefy and tasted mostly of pho flavoring cubes. Although the combination pho and oxtail pho broth tasted different, the mildness and lack of beefiness could be generalized to both these bowls. That being said, the bowl was still decent and I finished it regardless. Pho beef: The beef slices and rib bone were all quite tough and not very flavorful. I would expect that the beef is tender and fatty but it was neither of those things. In contrast, the oxtail was actually quite tender and fatty. Condiments: The dishes/amounts for bean sprouts and basil were smaller than would be given at other places; however, they did provide extra bean sprouts upon request. Bonus: The restroom was gold themed! The toilet and sink were all gold with interesting patterning. The sink mirror was in the shape of a sun. Super cute! read more

We've been eyeing Pho Lab for a while because the reviews are so impressive and being in OC, we were on the hunt for the best pho in the area. Come to find out they have more than just pho, there are so many noodle and rice dish options too and they all look INCREDIBLE. So deciding what to get was a very difficult decision. We ended up getting a Pho Rib Bones and a Shaken Beef Garlic Noodle. Pho Rib Bones: Although not fall-off-the-bone tender (actually a bit tough in some areas), the pho was in fact delicious and I was impressed with how clear the broth was. The broth actually tasted like the beef had been stewing in it for hours, which now definitely makes me think the pho I've been having on the east coast has some extra stuff in it because it does not look this clear. Is it possible to have too much broth? I did have a decent amount of broth at the end after I had finished the noodle and meat, which makes me think either more noodle or less soup would have made it the perfect balance. I found the rib bones logistically a little hard to eat since I had to first cut the meat off the VERY large bones they give you with the bowl, but once you get the bones out of the way it is a very satisfying bowl of pho. Might try the brisket or meatball next time for easier eating. Shaken Beef Garlic Noodle: Now THIS meat was TENDER. And the green sauce on the side is a total game changer! We had the same dish at Vox Kitchen in Fountain Valley which I did not like because of the Maggi seasoning they used, but this didn't have that and it was so good. Would come back just for this dish. Crispy Pho Spring Rolls: Got this as an appetizer - loved the peanut sauce, wish there was more pork because my bites were mostly lettuce. Still very good though. Service was extremely fast with how quickly our food came out. Definitely want to come back and try some of their noodle or fish dishes. David's dad said he liked it better than his favorite pho place (and he lives here) so I thought that was a big compliment! read more
