We came to this place last weekend. Both of my friend and I had Pho Beef Loin NY (Cooked). Cost each bowl is $17.85. Broth is not as tasty, lacking authentic Pho's aroma. The broth is not hot enough for a typical good bowl of Pho. We also had egg rolls which i thought it was just so so, its dipping sauce is a bit sweet and sour. Again this wasn't as good as I expected. My friend gave 5 out of 10 for Pho. I'm a bit more generous giving 7 out of 10. The skin of the spring rolls was a bit gummy, but the filling was fine and the peanut sauce was really good. The pho broth was flavorful. They give you plenty of noodles and bean sprouts. I wish they gave more basil. I wouldn't order the Vietnamese iced coffee again. There was too much ice and they added sweetened condensed milk which wasn't blended. It wasn't the Vietnamese coffee I'm used to. On the DoorDash order, there was an extra charge for the to go pho containers. This is the first time I've seen this. read more

I have been supporting this establishment since their opening. Food is very decent, service is ok (however asking to wait outside for a table that was being cleared, when raining, while there is room at the very end of the room is not ok). And this comes from a person that just came from Texas, used to lower standards for Asian food. We ordered: Vietnamese coffee, fried shrimp wonton, crab fried rice, ginger fish noodle soup, and chicken pho. To start, the two soup was okay. The chicken pho was not use chicken broth, so be aware. But flavors of both of the soups were fine. The cons were the rest. Vietnamese coffee? It was hard condensed milk with horrific coffee. Shrimp wontons were still doughy. Will go again - So...I have been out of my foodie reviews because it has been quite busy. I recently moved to Los Angeles from Dallas and also started a new job. Lots of new things in my life recently. Tonight...I found a new favorite pho spot; well, the only one I had in LA so far. My how I was surprised on how rich the pho broth was. A perfect blend of umami, salty, savory, and ginger! This was a bit new. Normally, I don't think I had ginger in my pho broths. If it did, the evidence was not visible. The seafood was plentiful with large sized shrimps that looked like lobsters because they were so big...okay, bit exaggerated. It was a fresh dish to see the seafood including fish. Normally, this was not included in my seafood phos. I always try to get Thai iced tea when it is available...one of my favorite drinks. As I was feeling under the weather, this broth jumped my immune system! The exterior is a bit run down but the interior has a very "hole in the wall" vibe and casual. Good place to just wind down with a friend or...maybe a date. They say they have a parking lot but...consider it non-existent. It can fit 2 cars but if 1 parks by the entrance...good luck. Very underwhelming. I chose this spot because of the reviews. I've been battling the flu all week and some tasty pho sounded perfect as my stomach was beginning to settle. The broth was pretty bland. There was literally an entire onion shredded in with the noodles. The ratio of everything felt way off. Way too many noodles, way too many shredded onions, and no bean sprouts. I would've just preferred the traditional topping of sliced eye of round, brisket, tripe, tendon, and beef meatballs. If you have a pho craving on the west side this will fix it a little. I've generally found West LA to be a Vietnamese food desert and so my expectations for Pho MDR were pretty low after being sorely disappointed by Nong La in Sawtelle. I ordered a combo pho (tripe, brisket, rare steak, tendon, the works) and my partner got some kind of boat noodle soup with meatballs. I did not try his dish because I did not want to eat anything spicy that night, but he thought it was well-seasoned with a good spice level. My verdict on the pho: Much better than Nong La, but truly not as good as any of the pho I've had in the Mira Mesa and City Heights neighborhoods in San Diego. The portion was decent for the price and we received a generous platter of basil, sprouts, lime, jalapeno, etc. to put in the broth. Unfortunately, there was something about the spice blend in the broth that made the flavor lack something...maybe it was anise or cardamom. The noodles also tasted like the prepackaged refrigerated pho noodles that you get from the Viet or Chinese supermarket (which isn't necessarily a dealbreaker); but they have that kind of acidic, plasticky taste that lingers if you don't give them a good rinse/soak before cooking. As for service, it was attentive and friendly. We came for a late dinner (around 8-8:30 PM) and the place was still packed (granted, the space can probably only seat up to 15-20 people). My quest for a decent pho bowl continues, but Pho MDR was decent. read more

This place is a fusion of Thai / Vietnamese. Everything we ordered was very good. The place is very small with several dining tables inside. No outside dining available. Although it was not busy when we arrived for lunch, food did take a while to receive. Our server was very sweet and helpful. My favorite part was the pho noodle texture. It was perfectly chewy the way I love it. The pho soup is a bit too sweet though, but not oily and the meat was tender. The veggie roll with garlic beef, fried vegan dumplings, coconut ice cream, mango sticky rice, fried rice garlic beef, and pho were all very good. Love the food but only for dine in. For both pick up and delivery it's been a bit of a challenge. It is clear they prioritize dine in which is great when you dine in. I'm currently waiting for my food to arrive. From the time of order to the time of delivery will be over an hour. Was quoted 20-40 min on the delivery app and will arrive 4 min before the stated latest time of arrival. More than 65 min from the time of the actual order. The issue definitely is not on the delivery service. We watched the prep time increase repeatedly. Food was not stated as finished being prepared until after it should have already been picked up. Nobody does pho on the west side like Pho MDR. This is my go to take out spot when I'm craving pho, I go basically once a week. My favorite is the Pho Rare Steak. Delicious broth, great portion size, they always include bean sprouts, lime, jalapeño, and Thai basil. Pho ga is also good here, nice shredded chicken, but I prefer the depth of flavor in the broth of the pho rare steak. Service is very friendly and efficient! Street parking access. Comforting food with a varied menu of dishes, mainly Vietnamese and Thai. There are meat, seafood and vegan options. We owe you the pictures for next time, but my husband had the rare beef pho and I had seafood in vegetable broth. We both added Chinese broccoli for $1. Portions were large. I found my dish a little bland, but it improved with the sides of beansprout, basil, lime and jalapeños as well as hoisin and sriracha sauces. There was a generous amount of fish, squid and shrimp. I liked that the Chinese broccoli and shrimps were not at all overcooked. I did not get a migraine, so I am pretty sure that there was no MSG or other high sodium additive (just in case you're another unlucky person with that sensitivity). Service was fast and polite. I was also pleased that my order was correct despite lots of modifications and the server was so nice about it, too. The ambiance is bright, cheerful and casual. There is patio seating upon request. Parking is available on the street and I think I heard that there's a lot, but don't know about that. They close between lunch and dinner, so check on hours beforehand. This place is very small and cozy and has a cool atmosphere, the service is pretty kind. The food on the other hand ... total rip off. Payed for two pho beef brisket and both came in huge bowls with so much broth but almost 0 beef and very little noodles. The broth is tasty and the beef was tender but to pay 17 dollars for a couple slices of thin beef is just not worth it. I couldn't even get full off of the noodles. We also ordered the garlic beef egg roll and those were also disappointing, not a nice crisp and the sauce served with it wasn't good. Will not be coming back just way too pricey. Also they charge a 18% gratuity for everyone no matter your party size which was the final nail in the coffin, there were 0 signs saying they charge 18% gratuity no matter size party. The first time I went to Pho MDR, I thought to myself "I do not want to look anywhere else." And so, I've been coming back during our dramatic cold-snap in LA. Sometimes a hot soup does it for me, and pho is one of those things I can have all the time. The staff is friendly and usually quick to serve. I notice they get a lot of pick up orders in the evening and their small restaurant offers outdoor patio dining as well. I love their rare beef loin pho. The tripe option is superb too! Came here on a Friday night and they were very busy but in spite of that the service was still very friendly and warm. The vibe is cool and colorful. I had the rare pho. The meat comes on a separate plate. The soup was flavorful. I also tasted the spring rolls but the pho portion is so big I couldn't even finish one. Looking back at the photos of other pho bowls it's safe to say I got scrapes for $21 I ordered the surf & turf with no chicken . The shrimp were pretty juicy but the beef was literally scrapes smh something told me to wait until the order was bagged and sealed to pay but I ended up getting their a bit early so I had to wait I say that to say this some people definitely judge ppl off the color or their skin unfortunately but my money is green just like everyone else! I've gotten take-out from here twice and not sure there'll be a third. First order of business: parking. If you're coming around dinner, be aware there is very little parking, and the nearest lot charges so much that I drove 2 blocks and walked over just to pickup my food. Service-wise, they seemed nice based on my limited interactions. Smiling, good attitude, and my order was always ready when they said it would be. The issue is really the food. The spring rolls w/ shrimp we ordered were good, but the sauce was too sweet. Vermicelli bowl was solid, but the fried pork chunks were...interesting? And not really what I was expecting, though that could be on me. If this doesn't sound like a 3-star review, that's because it wasn't until we got to the banh mi. The choices for meat/sauce are overpowering, and it doesn't use the right bread. It's more of a doughy hoagie bun, giving you none of the airy crunchiness that a baguette brings to a legit banh mi. Were these choices made in service of the "fusion" vision of the restaurant? Maybe. But they left me confused and more than a little disappointed in the result. read more

If you love a great spot for photo ops and aesthetics, this is a great place! I usually have traditional pho east outside LA, so this was my first time trying pho on the west side. I got the Pho with raw rare steak, and the broth was lighter than I wanted and could use more flavor. It was definitely a large portion in terms of noodles. The rare steak cooked easily inside the broth, and was really soft, but I do wish there was a larger protein portion. The veggie rolls with beef were a little underwhelming, but it paired really well with the lettuce and cilantro! The mango sticky rice with coconut was great, I loved how they presented it with a whole cut mango and the sticky rice being warm. The service was good; overall this is a great aesthetic place if you want pho on the west side and many options on the menu! read more

Service was top tier, as we were one of a few parties dining in for dinner. As a starter, we ordered the shrimp spring rolls, which were good. The peanut sauce was not a Vietnamese sauce, but rather the Thai peanut sauce they give you for chicken satay. The sauce itself was really good - just not traditional with spring rolls. The broth was very fresh and clean. I wish the meatballs had more flavor, as they were pretty bland.
