Been to Pho Show a couple of times with the family and we have had great experiences! Jessie waited on us both times and was amazing. The portions are sizable, the food flavorful. So disappointed. I really enjoyed our local pho spot that had quality soup. We ordered rare beef and tofu pho for the wife and to be honest it tasted like water. This place has gone immeasurably downhill. Im sorry to say but Pho Show went from A+ to a capital F recently. $50 to deliver 2 bowls of inedible Pho sealed the deal. I'll never eat here again. Getting a table during a semi busy time is really awkward as there's no place to stand and if it's cold or rainy you're literally getting pushed non stop while waiting for a table. We have been eating here for years. We love their salt and pepper tofu. Today I got takeout and they said rice was just for one person so I ordered 2 orders of rice. It was $10.50 just for the rice. I usually order this for delivery but decided to check out the actual sit down restaurant. The pho came in a large bowl, although it seemed like a lot more broth than everything else. It was very tasty -- the broth was great! They give you lots of lemon which I love putting in my soup. I ordered the rare steak and brisket pho, and while it was delicious, the "rare steak" came out pretty well cooked. Unfortunately when we went, they were out of bread and rice paper so we couldn't order banh mi or spring rolls. Parking was street parking only -- it's metered but it is free after 6pm on weekdays. I've been coming here since ~2008 and it never disappoints. Highlights from their menu that I've tried: Items below have priced as of 11/13/2023: SALT AND PEPPER TOFU $12.00 I ordered this to go two weeks ago and it was great. The tofu was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. It has a ton of flavor! I've read reviews that complain that it doesn't taste like salt and pepper, but this is what Chinese Salt and Pepper taste like- it's usually made with salt and bell pepper, garlic, and green onions. Sometimes places will add white pepper or a spice like Szechuan chilis as well. But, this dish is not made spicy at Pho Show; it is salty and delicious, but you can add chili oil, chili sauce, or sriracha if you'd like (condiments on the table). SALT AND PEPPER CALAMARI $15.00 I had this last night and it didn't disappoint. I love fried calamari and adding the flavor of Chinese Salt and Pepper to it was perfect. I also highly recommend squeezing the lemon on it which they provide you. It adds a nice citrus flavor boost. RARE STEAK PHO (pho tai) $13.25 + $1.25 for large The rare steak is thicker than most places, which I appreciate because I feel like I get more meat here than at places that shave the meat. However, it's almost always cooked more than I like by the time I receive it at the table... so, when it arrives, I pull all the meat out immediately to stop it from cooking further. I like my steak med rare, and although some pieces may arrive medium well (little pink), most arrive well done. That's because their broth is popping hot! And I always forget to ask for the meat to be served on the side, so I can add it for the time needed to cook only to medium rare. **HINT: if you're like me and don't want the meat fully cooked, ask for it on the side. The broth that comes with this is amazing. It's hot and flavorful. It has white and green onions served in it. On the side, you'll receive bean sprouts, basil, jalapeño, and lemon slices (they used to serve it with lime- not sure when this changed). I like to squirt in the lemon, add the sprouts, basil, and a single jalapeño for a little kick. On the table, you'll have access to chili oil, chili sauce, sriracha, and of course, hoisin. I like to add the hoisin and a little sriracha to add some kick. ***HINT: if you have broth left over, and you wanna make this into two meals, you can order extra noodles for $4-5. You can add it right away, or take them home for later. ORANGE CHICKEN This is the best orange chicken I've ever had. Not only is the chicken perfectly crispy, with moist, flavorful chicken inside, but the sauce is phenomenal! I don't know how they make it taste so much better than anyone else. Maybe it's because it has a slight spicy kick to it? Maybe it's because they add orange rinds to it? Whatever it is, this is delicious! *HINT: Don't forget to order a side of rice to eat with it! Pho Show can get busy, so call ahead to see if there is a wait. If there is, you can always order takeout. They have a website which you can order from without a fee! ***HINT: they often have discounts on their website for online orders... like if you're a local, etc The inside is cute: outside they have tables with chairs, whereas inside they have a mix of tables with chairs vs tables with booths & chairs. Pho Show was a surprise to me! The last time I tried a Vietnamese restaurant in LA, I decided I should spare myself from that in the future. Pho Show turned out to be a much tastier, so I am glad my family and I stopped by! There is street parking right in front, which we got lucky to find once out of the two times we've been here. The restaurant was pretty spacious and with plenty of seating inside for a weekend dinner. The menu has no speck of Vietnamese on it, which set my expectations low, but of course we waited for the food to see how that would go. The server took our orders and regularly checked in on us throughout our meal. My family ordered the rare steak and beef balls phở and the charbroiled pork vermicelli. The phở was pretty standard but relatively impressive for what we expected, making over an overall pleasant surprise. The charbroiled pork was seasoned nicely and tasted the way we have had it at other Vietnamese restaurants, ie pretty spot on! It came with a fair amount of pickled and fresh veggies. It made all the difference for this review. Overall, Pho Show is a reliable stop for my family whenever they visit. Before the pandemic, they were constantly full, with lines running out the door (patiently) to be seated. This was another time going to complete disappointment. My fault at this point. I know mistakes happen but to have my pho completely not come at all was just super annoying. The entire table of food arrived one thing at a time but our server checked on us so infrequently everyone basically finished eating by the time we could flag someone down to request at that point we just not be charged for the soup. The first glasses of water we all received also tasted like soap. When our water was refilled it got better so then I'm realizing the glasses weren't rinsed completely. Gross. My son's Diet Coke came with a glass of ice so melted he basically had half a glass of water. My husband did say something this time because for this to happen twice is actually just weird, and it made all the other little things more annoying. I'm mean we drank the soap water without complaining we literally just need food on the table, but that was too difficult apparently. Most of the meal was spent wondering where my food was and me picking on my family's food, so nobody just got to enjoy dinner out. Huge waste of time and money. The manager did partially refund some of the meal. But after spending the entire dinner waiting for the order, not being helped or checked on, leaving hungry on top of it all, even that felt like it fell short. This was similar to the last visit... (where we waited 40 minutes) for our food while there were only three other tables. They then rushed the food out after I pointed out everyone has eaten and left who arrived after us.) JUST SAY YOU FORGOT ITS FINE! But the rude server LOOKED panicked because it definitely was forgotten. Still gave me some rude well, they ordered something that was cooks faster. Faster than pho? And they arrived 15-20 minutes after me? Brought the soup out immediately and then the appetizer because those took longer to cook - because the ticket didn't get sent to the kitchen or the kitchen forgot. Either way the "I'm rude for asking attitude" was wild. At the 40 minute mark you shouldn't be surprised I'm asking. I think this is just how this place operates. The staff here is crazy. They are telling people there's a 5-15 minute wait to be seated, but in reality, there's a 30-60 minute wait. I've been waiting for 50 minutes. Although I'm eating alone, there are many open seats that could accommodate one or two people. The management and staff need to learn how to better manage their open tables. We ordered several items but the things that really stood out to us were the delicious rare stake pho, an order of the combination pan fried egg noodles and last but certainly not least their orange chicken. The noddles were recommended by the waiter. There was a very generous portion of noodles and this is a great source of protein. The orange chicken was so tender and juicy. I would recommend the orange chicken to anyone, not greasy, amazing great value for how much they gave us! Outside of the great food, I was happily impressed by the level of quality service.
