Don't expect great service but this place has the best pho in Gardena. Deeply flavored broth, proper toppings, nice portion of meat. Also love their banh hoi, which are woven sheets of rice noodles that you eat with meat and veggies like wraps -- I think they're the only Viet place around here that serves them. My only gripe is they don't sell cha gio (crispy spring rolls) a la carte, and they almost never pick up the phone for takeout, which means you have to order online and pay more to grub hub or whatever. Pho So I will be returning here. I don't often eat pho because I tend to avoid soups (I easily get hot). But on this day my father insisted. Apparently he frequents pho places more often than I. So we both ordered pho and it was pretty delicious. I was feeling a little under the weather and the chicken soup was just what I needed. The service was excellent. Very quick and polite. Pho So 1 is a solid source for PHO, no frills, quick service. The service is fast, and friendly. The food is good. Not spectacular in terms of having a "must have" signature taste or menu items that are unique. The pricing is good, so it's a "great value" type restaurant. The parking is somewhat easy with the back lot and adjacent street parking. The one recommendation I heard from a neighboring table was an interesting one. The staff, 'tho honorable in intentions to keep the place clean, were continually sweeping the floor, which inherently kicks up the dirt / dust into the air, and speculatively is then breathed / inhaled and possibly lands into the soup and food. So, I'd recommend using a damp mop (with "caution" signs so nobody slips) or wait 'til the end of the day to sweep the floors based on that insightful comment, as the efforts in sweeping can actually become counterproductive and a negative. There's a lot of Asian restaurants, be it Chinese and/or Japanese and/or Korean in the surrounding area and even a competing Pho noodle restaurant up the street, so with that type of competition, restaurants need to be on top of service; food quality; food quantity/pricing; and the overall experience. I think Pho So does a good job at keeping busy with customers, which is a good sign, and hope they'll continue to earn the business by not becoming complacent and striving to improve and innovate. read more

It is THE BEST Pho I have had so far in the South Bay - that actually MAKE the broth from scratch! I can tell when places make it fresh and the ones that use the ready made soup base. Probably my favorite pho restaurant at the moment. It is a no frills place and focuses on the food and that is how I like it. The price is reasonable and not overly inflated like the new fancy pho places who charges $15 bc it has "fancy" decorations or plates. They do not skimp on the meat and the veggies that you add to the soup. They even have culantro (no not cilantro) which is a great addition to the bean sprouts, mint, and cilantro that you can add. The service is not too hot but this is a quick in and out meal. They have plenty of seating and the food generally comes out super quick. You pay at the cashier and you are good to go! My go to spot when feeling like Vietnamese cuisine. They are super quick taking orders and bringing the food hot and fresh. I always get Bún Chä Giò Thît Nüong (heo Hoac Bò) charbroiled beef /egg roll with rice vermicelli & veggies. The beef and egg rolls and always freshly made and hot while the cold veggies and vermicelli stay perfectly cold and compliment each other well. lol The amount of positive reviews this place has is mind-blowing. It's almost as if this is the first bowl of pho they've ever tried! I've been here twice. Gardena is known for having decent-good pho/vietnamese places in the area, and this being right smack in the corner of the famous Gardena Asian restaurant plaza, it was destiny that I somehow ended up here. It's been a couple of years since I've had the pho. Now, I've been to a few pho places in the South Bay so I'd like to think I know a thing or two about the different offerings in the area. This ranks dead last: bland, uneventful broth with equally uninteresting cuts of beef and passable rice noodles. We made the mistake of bringing a pho-adverse friend to this place, because this all but confirmed her (wrong) opinions about pho in general. I came upon here again for a late lunch. I sat, ordered, and waited. Then, out came something I didn't order. I didn't send it back because 1) I don't want to waste it and 2) it was bun bo hue, which is way better than pho, so I was OK with it. Let me tell you once again that I've had a few Bun Bo Hue around the area too and this is once again dead last. I've never had a Bun Bo Hue broth so devoid of flavor and fragrance before. The meat topping was atrocious and hardly what I'd call generous for an order of bun bo hue, and the fresh veggies that I always looked forward to was disappointing. Easily my least favorite bun bo hue order in the area. I've never not finished the broth in my life until then. The most interesting part of the meal was the way they served Vietnamese coffee. Usually at restaurants, the coffee is pre-mixed, but here they bring a coffee filter and have it drip into a cup with condensed milk. It was a fun little gimmick but took too long for the coffee to finish dripping. I couldn't wait to taste the coffee, especially after that horribly bland noodle soup. whew! read more

They dont use flour but the rice paper wrap to made the egg rolls. Make sure to wrap it in the lettuce, add some of the radish&carrots, and dip it in the fish sauce! My go-to pho: I get the PLAIN pho with no meat. I'm not a vegetarian but the first time I got the plain pho I fell in love with it. The broth tastes cleaner than with all the added meats and such. They're generous with the meat portions, and the price is great (under $8 for a regular size bowl). Their avocado shake is also on point (usually). They always stay consistent with the taste and it honestly tastes alright. It tastes enough to satisfy my pho cravings but not enough to blow my mind away. This place has good pho but not REALLY good pho. Service: probably why I come here so often; they have FAST service. I can literally come in and out in 20 minutes if I'm in a rush and still want to eat a full meal. So if you're in a rush but don't want to eat fast food meals, just come here. The most authentic pho place I've tried. The noodle was chewy just like how pho are suppose to be. Second, the egg rolls were short and thick, not too crispy, which is also how Vietnamese egg rolls are suppose to be. I heard of this place from my friend. When I visited the place, man it was super packed. The parking in the plaza was hard to find spots as it did. My friend and I had to park on the main road. Place is very much like any other pho restaurants. Only busier and crowded. But I still manage to get a table within 15 mins. My friends and I quickly knew what to get and ordered pho and the egg rolls. The food got here really quick, the wait was probably 3 mins top. And we obliterated so quick that we were full.
