Moving to the Northern Chicago area after living in San Diego. This was the first Vietnamese restaurant we've been to since living here, and I must say, this phõ place deserves more stars than it has! My husband and I ordered the Number 1 and Number 18. The broth for both soups were flavored very well. (Not too salty, not watered down like some pho places we've eaten at.) Noodles were nice and soft. And service was great. You can tell this place is very interpersonal with their customers. The owner (assuming it was) served us our food and she immediately recognized we were new customers. She was very sweet and conversational and knew when it was time to leave us alone to eat and enjoy our food. Being San Diego natives, we're very picky and know our phõ well. The broth was omfg good but the portions on the meat and noodles was bad like damn near earned a 2 star drop bad. If I could take their broth and use the meat and noodle portions from 95% of other pho places I would have found my perfect bowl. I've been eating here once a month for three to four months. The service is good, quality is decent until today. I got the pad Thai with chicken. It came out piping hot. After lunch and a return to work I spent three trips to the restroom with extreme emergencies each time (younknowthefeeling). I am guessing it could be due to mishandling of ingredients. Update 5/8/2017 I am going to the emergency room for parasites. I cannot seem to get out of the bathroom and my fecal matter is the same color as their sauce they used for the pad Thai. The food is good. A little cheesy to have the food in pictures on the wall, which makes it look like a restaurant that hasn't changed in 20 years. The one man show in the kitchen was a little sad considering the amount of people that were waiting in the restaurant. The wait was much longer than a normal lunch meal should take. Overall, the flavors are there, but they could do something more about the ambiance and energy in the place. A little less 80s and a little more 2020. Perhaps the food could use some updating too, but I do appreciate the traditional flavors. Young new customers to the cuisines might choose to go elsewhere. read more

I came here with my parents and husband last weekend. I had the chicken Pho and spring rolls. The spring rolls were good...shrimp was fresh. The owner is a very nice man and seems to really care about his customers. I hope this place makes it because there are very few Pho restaurants in the suburbs. I've had chicken pho at many places and often in big cities during travel. The best I've had includes all white meat chicken breast. This chicken was not high quality (mostly brown meat) and had the skin still on it, which I've never seen before...kind of gross. There were also bones in the meat. The broth, however, was delicious and the best I've ever had. I hope the owner reads these comments and decides to upgrade to a better cut of meat because the prices are pretty high and I'd expect better. read more

Very Good. This is place that is non-descript from outside, hidden in little strip mall in Palatine. The last time I had good Vietnamese food was when I lived in Hawaii over 10 years ago, so I was a little skeptical even with the good reviews on yelp. This place did not disappoint. My wife and split the chicken fried rice and beef Pho(#9). The fried rice was definitely better than any fried rice I have anywhere in the suburbs, including my much loved chinese and sushi go-to spots. The rice vermicelli in the Pho was spectacular. My visit was mid-afternoon and the place was empty. Even with the absence of other diners we did not feel uncomfortable, the service was attentive and unassuming, and I left impressed. read more

I eat here every other day. I am a huge Asian food junkie. I used to be obsessed with Japanese ramen but after moving in the area a year ago, I have found myself here just about 3 times a week. I have tried most of the menu. Pork chops are great, I loves the Thai tea, dumplings and most of all the #12 beef slice and flank steak pho. This has become my spot and I would recommend anyone who loves healthy Asian food. Also I've become pretty closer with the two owners. They are good people and deserve all the love. Pho Son Ha doesn't have any veggie options on their menu but they have several items to offer if you don't eat meat. Although it would be nice to see those options on the menu, it was neat discussing them with the server instead, and seeing what she recommended most. The food was amazing, and so fresh! I just had lunch at Pho Son Ha. I enjoyed it very much. I had spring rolls and pho tai. The spring rolls were good, but the peanut sauce had no spice. Easily fixed by sriracha on the table. The pho was flavorful and quite filling with plenty of noodles and meat. My only issue was that it was a bit too salty. read more

I tried going a few weeks ago and they were closed due to some kitchen issues. We then tried last weekend. We placed our order and we had asked for hot tea. When the brought it a giant cockroach was in the tea. So, definitely be wary of hygiene. We left immediately as the server was not even apologetic. read more

I am updating my review because this restaurant was under different management when I first reviewed it. I have always liked Pho Son Ha ever since I came to work in the area. Now they are family owned and their personal touch really makes the business shine. The food is very good, reasonably priced and the service is excellent. I have NEVER had a bad experience there. I prefer the bun dishes myself, but the pho looks excellent too. I am very glad to see many patrons are coming to this restaurant. Obviously, they are happy too. The appetizers we had were absolutely excellent after the second time we sent them back. The first time they came out the eggrolls were frozen inside. We also had a Porkchop appetizer which was lovely. Unfortunately, it took them almost an hour to take our order by the time we finished our appetizers so we just paid the bill and left. read more
