At first I was really skeptical about this place, but my husband wanted to try it for months and I finally gave in. I'm not the biggest pho fan, so I wasn't crazy excited. When we first got there, it was empty in the main dining area. There was a larger party in the other room, which was nice that it was separated. Looking from the outside, you never would have guessed how nice and clean it was inside. The spring rolls we ordered were so yummy! I was really craving spring rolls wrapped in lettuce and it was so good. My pho with beef balls was pretty good too. They offer two different sizes depending on how hungry you are. All the condiments were on the table like most places so it was easy to access. The best part about this place is that the service was great (hard to find at pho places), they offer a buy one, get one free entree on Saturdays, and they give you a free drink with your entree order. Pho Tri is my favorite pho place on the island but I don't think I'll be going there anymore. They raised the prices from $12.99 to 15.99 for a large bowl and that's too much for one bowl of pho. It's supposed to be an inexpensive comfort food but now it's become a luxury. I understand inflation has hit everyone but it's hard to keep up as a consumer and as someone who has to pay these prices. Also Emi H. had a nice write up on the restaurant, so I had go. We went up Kalakaua and nearly missed it. Parking can be tough, but there's a parking lot on S. Beretania St. if you come up Punahou St. We were seated quickly and the very friendly waitress took our order just as fast. I ordered the beef combo...large! The girls ordered a meat pho and tofu pho. The usually garnishes came out and you can see how clean the bean sprout were...ahh, pride in the kitchen. We all dug in and looked at each other with a big smile and took another scoop of the tasty pho broth with our metal spoons. The broth was just delicious and that's how Pho suppose to be. I come here often because I work nearby. I like it because service it quick and they have vegetarian/pescatarian options, especially spring rolls! There's hardly places with vegetarian spring rolls. You know a restaurant is good when they make special in-house sauce. My favorite dish is the bun cha gio (cold vermicelli noodles topped spring rolls and some veggies). One night a friend and I called in a takeout order and the woman over the phone was very cheerful and sweet. She was the same woman who gave us our order when we arrived. Her name was Tammy. She was very kind and allowed us to sit when we arrived as out food was not ready yet. She was also nice enough to give us take out containers for sauce (the delicious in-house one!). Another plus about this place is that the prices are very reasonable. I can't see myself going to other restaurants that charge $14-$15 for pho or bun. The inside of this place is clean! The cleanest pho place I've ever been to. The staff is very friendly, even after ordering and getting our food, she would come by to make sure we're okay. I used to frequent this place almost once a week when I was working down the road. Very convenient location. The thing for me is, I like my pho extremely plain (just broth, noodles, and some tofu)... Therefore, the pho is up to standard in my opinion. The servers always include a plate of vegetables since I would always be dining with a group (again, I like my pho plain, so I would just pass). What concerned me was the cleanliness of the basil and bean sprouts... A number of times eating here, I observed that the vegetables may not have been washed properly. I will say that the interior of this restaurant is a lot cleaner than other pho places I've eaten at. The service on the other hand, is a hit or miss. The servers obviously cater to the frequent customers. How do I know? I used to come here with co-workers, and one co-worker in particular has been frequenting this place for years (we're talking 5+ years). When I would eat here with her, service was top notch. However, when dining without her, we'd sit there forever just for someone to take our orders! You would have thought they'd remember us, especially since we'd all be in blue scrubs like a bunch of Oompa Loompas. Overall, this place is tolerable if you are craving pho. Best Vietnamese food EVER! We are in town for our anniversary and yelped this spot. Super clean! Full of locals who know that the best food is here! We totally over-ordered but that's ok. Spring rolls (get a small since the portions are super generous). Extra crispy with lots of veggies. Yum! Hubby had the pork chop and it did not disappoint - outstanding. Perfectly seasoned and prepared. THE side SOUP - such soft subtle flavors and not salty! Was that a hint of nutmeg? Another HIT! My absolute favorite was the BBQ chicken vermicelli. I went here back in March and enjoyed the food. I decided to go back today with five friends. We sat down and the waitress didn't bring a menu for everyone. I don't recall her actually bringing them to us but they were just on the table and I think there was one at least but no more than two. She brought us all waters and a friend pointed out the lipstick stain on the rim of the glass. I pointed it out to the waitress and also the black floating thing in my glass. She brings in back and it's the same glass but new water. I point that out again; my friend says you better look at your food like she might fuck with my food. We start thinking should we stay or just leave. We left because it was just a weird vibe and didn't want to wonder if my food is okay. Anyway, it's too bad that this happened as I really liked it before. The service was really bad this time so just couldn't and won't go back. Yet when I got the delivery, what I received was the parts of a pho but no container big enough to mix and eat it (see photo). When I called to complain, they just said that's the way they deliver. Pho Tri has basically become a go-to spot whenever I want to satisfy my Vietnamese cravings! For such a convenient location, quality/variety of menu items and great prices, you can't go wrong with coming here! Food/service: From the multitude of encounters that I've had, I was able to try their pho (with rare beef and meatballs), bun xeo (Vietnamese pancake), spring roll vermicelli, and even sampled their ong choi entree. The ong choi was really flavorful and cooked enough so that it sustained its crunch. The vermicelli bowl was pretty standard. I also really enjoy their pho -- the soup isn't over salty, the meat portions are generous and all the standard vegetables that you would expect are all there. I do want to point out that this restaurant specifically has a housemade garlic chili sauce that is so different from all the other Vietnamese restaurants! Absolutely delicious and not too spicy. Really adds another layer of flavor that you didn't think you needed, but you absolutely do. Finally, I want to highlight their bun xeo. I've never really looked to other restaurants for anything outside of pho or vermicelli but I saw someone order it once and had to try it for myself. For those who might not be familiar, bun xeo is a Vietnamese crepe that is filled with bean sprouts, pork, shrimp, etc. At Pho Tri, their savory crepe is MASSIVE. It also comes with nuoc nam sauce, lettuce, cucumbers and mint. Just writing this review makes me want to go back to order it! I highly recommend that you try the crepe at least once! In terms of service, the workers are very nice and attentive. The turnaround for food is also quick which is always great. Interior/ambience: A great casual restaurant that is extremely clean. Also, regarding COVID, they really spaced out all the tables and do an excellent job in keeping up with the restriction guidelines. I definitely feel comfortable eating here! The chicken in both the pho and the salad were incredibly hard and dry. It looked like the same large slices in the salad. This used to be one of my go-to places for pho, but I think their service, as well as their quality of food has gone down. We ordered the pho tai chin and summer rolls. The summer rolls were very skimpy and wasn't rolled tightly, so after one bite, most of the goodies ended up on the table. My favorite part of the summer rolls is the peanut sauce, but theirs was watery and lacked taste. Maybe we should have stuck to ordering the spring rolls instead. They just reopened after renovations! This is the second time I got to dine here and I feel very lucky to have dined here right before their renovations and immediately after they reopened. One of the first differences I noticed was when we entered the parking garage off Beretania, there is an attendant now. Previously no one was guiding traffic and watching the lot. It's not part of the restaurant but I just wanted to mention this. Parking is still the same as before, free and on the second floor. You walk down the stairs and you're right at the back entrance of the restaurant. When you enter, most of the restaurant looks about the same. The rocks are painted and cleaned, table clothes look new and there is a new counter. I believe the menus are new because the prices went up a bit. The servers have these bright green shirts that I don't believe they wore before. Aside from that, I didn't notice much changes. Now to the pho, the broth was good and hot when it came out. I ordered the combination pho with meat outside (raw). The bowl was filled with meat and noodles. Looked like the portions stayed about the same. Noodles were firm and felt just slightly undercooked with the first few bites. There is a lot of cooked beef in the bowl which is good but I wish that there were more raw meat on the side (only had 3 pieces). The meal was accompanied with a lot of veggies but the basil didn't look so fresh. Overall, better than the average bowl of pho but the price is a little high for a large bowl ($11.51 after tax and not including tip). Best deal is to come when they offer the buy one and get one 50% off on Saturday. It includes a free soda so don't forget to ask the server about it. It is a pretty decent place, quite a few tables and they have two rooms. Service is kind of a hit or miss. Sometimes they do take a while to get you your water or even get your order because they either are cleaning the tables or bringing out the food. They have a variety of items and they have medium and large size for pho. I always order the medium and it fills me up. They have this sweet/spicy-ish? sauce that they make and it's actually pretty good with the pho! Now on to the pho.. Besides the generous portion size, I didn't really find anything outstanding compared to other pho restaurants. It could be only me haha. First time eating here and this pho is really good. The service was great. There's a lot of seats in this location. What I didn't like was the shady-looking dark parking lot that's located only on the S. Beretania side which is a One Way direction. I'm not sure if there's any security patrolling, but I feel a little uncomfortable leaving my car there lol. Other than that, you get fresh Vietnamese coffee (French coffee). They only have one type of sandwich which was ok. They ran outta the tapioca dessert that I've been waiting for :( but like I stated earlier, the pho was amazing and they didn't hold back on the portions especially the meat. We've been coming here for years, but after the newest renovation, things just don't taste the same. I ordered the tofu pho but she brought tofu with vegetables. I actually hate carrots in my soup. There was absolutely little to no taste in the broth. U know how important that is. I also had the green papaya salad. Again, the taste was not the same. It was missing something. I added fish sauce, lemon juice and even spicy shrimp paste, but still.... Parking is located on Beretania. The turns are sharp so be careful. We arrived at 5pm and although they open at 5:30, they sat us. But, we had to wait til 5:30 for our order to be taken. I didn't see any of the regular staff either. Our waitress needed our order by number and not name. She also didn't understand the table next to us who had substitutions. Her native tongue is def Vietnamese. Our family has a tradition of coming here once a week and I've grown to be fond of the place. On Saturdays they do a buy one get one half off, which makes it get pretty busy pretty quickly. They also offer a free soft drink! I like the pho here but I haven't tried enough pho to know the difference between the best pho and decent pho. I think the summer and spring rolls are pretty standard, but I also don't have that much to compare it to. The only thing I don't really like about this place is that they get so busy and distracted that they aren't quick about cleaning tables and seating people. You'll see multiple tables open up but they won't even get to cleaning them because they're too distracted running orders around. Sometimes you'll get frustrated and either 1) say something or 2) leave. I've seen people do both. Overall I think the place is pretty good for quality and price. Parking is available in the garage but it is limited and does get pretty full on saturdays. You may want to come early or late to avoid the lunch rush. read more

While visiting waikiki me and my husband decided to look for a pho spot away from the resort, i must say not only did we enjoy the pho but the hospitality is what will make us come again and again. One of the better Pho places around Honolulu, this place is on the edge of Kalakaua Avenue and South Beretania. Certainly a hole in the wall, if you don't know where this place is and you would have to actually look for it. With that said, there was something about the metal door that greeted me that afternoon. I didn't think much of anything at the time, but it was creepy after all. There wasn't much people here dining, so we were already seated with menus. I guess they needed the business. My friends and I obviously ordered the Pho, I had the beef pho, whereas they had the chicken Pho and the seafood Pho for the other. The portions were average to generous, so expect large portions of Pho for your liking. I do like this place for large portions and give them a thumbs up for that.
