I was in the mood for classic diner-style breakfast, and after seeing so many great reviews, we decided to give Phoebe's Diner a try. From the moment we walked in, the hostess gave us a warm welcome, and we were seated right away. It took our server a little while to get to our table, but she arrived with waters in hand, which was appreciated. We started with the fried green tomatoes. They were good, though I've definitely had better back home in Houston. For my entrée, I ordered the Badass Bacon Plate, and it absolutely hit the spot. Everything on the plate was delicious, from the thick-cut slab of bacon to the perfectly cooked scrambled eggs. I especially appreciated that the eggs were seasoned before cooking, something I don't often see at restaurants, and it really made a difference. The hash brown casserole was also fantastic and tied the whole meal together. My brother ordered the fried chicken biscuit and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Although our server was clearly very busy, the restaurant had a great team approach. Other staff members checked on us, refilled drinks, and made sure we had everything we needed, so we never felt neglected. Overall, it was a great dining experience with delicious food, friendly hospitality, and excellent teamwork. I would definitely recommend Phoebe's Diner if you're looking for a satisfying breakfast or brunch in Austin.
If you're looking for a solid brunch spot with something on the menu for everyone, this is it! I love the sweet and savory options. They're both so creative and the portions are huge. Definitely start off with one of their appetizers. We were deciding between the tots and cornbread and opted for the cornbread. I liked that it came with 3 different spreads! The cornbread itself was well baked and sweet. The flapjacks were cooked good and fruit was very generous. The star of the show was definitely the chorizo hash. I loved how healthy and tasty it was! Slightly spicy but not too bad. Service was friendly and prompt. Food came out super fast as well.
My partner loves American diners. I found Phoebe's Diner on Yelp. We walked in and immediately felt at ease because the decor had a bio-filik, farm-chic vibe. My favorite part was that the restaurant was really clean, and we were seated right away. We looked at the menu, which offered many options. We ordered El Chango because it was on the seasonal menu, along with the green chorizo hash. The El Chango was like a cheeky monkey with a Scotch egg on a bed of avocado verde salsa. My partner really liked it because it was small enough to feel satisfying before lunch, and my chorizo hash was really good. It was healthier than I expected. I asked for the masa balls on the side and the cheese to be served separately. My meal was so well balanced that I was excited to eat it and look forward to ordering it again.
My wife and I came here for Sunday Brunch and really enjoyed our time here. I ordered the Migas and she ordered the shrimp and grits. My Migas were outstanding! I loved the hollandaise sauce on the eggs, the potatoes were cooked perfectly, but the crispy masa cakes were the real stars of the show. I also had to order some pancakes and they were cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, also they were amazing! My wife said that was the best shrimp and grits she's ever had and the bartenders who served us were so very nice. They gave us some excellent recommendations and we will definitely be back.
So I was heading out of town going back home and my buddy called wanting to have breakfast. I looked up this location and the pictures looked pretty good. So decided to head over there and tried out. Once I got through the place was really nice, really clean and it was extremely packed.We waited about five minutes for a table, and they sat us down at four cedar. The server was really helpful.Brought us a menu.Everything looked pretty good.I decided to order the brisket burrito.It looked pretty good and he recommended it. I'm gonna start off by saying I got my meal about 10 minutes later. The potatoes were excellent loved. Em didn't have any complaints about Em. They tasted awesome. They were great now. On the other hand the burrito, not so much. The burrito was soggy, something was off with the meat. It tasted kind of bitter. I don't know if it was because of the barbecue sauce or what I ate about.Half of it before I couldn't eat it anymore. And I tossed it the other half. I was extremely disappointed with the meal.I paid about twenty four twenty five dollars.I believe for the meal and had to throw half of it away.Because it just didn't taste right.I didn't wanna make an issue. It looked phenomenal, just didn't taste like that. The other gripe I had was, I took a bite out of some of the burrito and noticed that it was a big glob of fat. Instead of actual brisket meat I probably should have stuck with the regular, which would have been bacon and eggs.But decided to try that.Because the way to recommended it sad I didn't stay with the eggs and bacon. Brisket burrito 2 outa 10 thats being generous Potatoes 5 outa 10 Wait staff 7 outa 10 he was slammed with tables Would I come back probably 50/50 chance to try the eggs and bacon In the picture it looks tasty but in actuality not so much
Great experience at Phoebe's Diner! The Cheeky Monkey and Brisket Benny were both savory and delicious. A huge standout was the French Toast,it tasted lovely and reminded me almost of a funnel cake! If you love a bold cup of coffee, the Café du Monde is a must-order. The Nitrochata was okay but a bit too mellow for my taste. Despite it being very busy, the staff was super friendly and kept things moving. I'll definitely be back!
This spot has amazing food and the flavors are awesome! Service was fast and friendly and we wish we had more time to come back for more! Keep up the great work guys! Place is clean and they give you stuff for your kids to do before the food comes!
Everything about Phoebe's is right...the location, the people, the food and of course family...wife and her sister eat here about every other month and the boys were invited this round...I have tried several menu items in the past but this one stood out..direct from the Menu! Poblano pepper stuffed with scrambled eggs and smoked cheddar, coated in crushed red corn tortilla chips and panko breadcrumbs, served over ranchero sauce, topped with creme fraiche, cotija cheese and cilantro, red potatoes...this was an epic dish...the crunch on the outside was fantastic...eggs fluffy and delicious...sauce made for a perfect bite...it will definitely be a challenge Not to order this again next visit!
If you have been to their location off of Oltorf, identical menus as expected. However, this location has a much larger seating capacity and more abundant parking. The food is delicious as usual. I went with my usual Big Bacon and Eggs. They had some specials going on, but I couldn't pass up on the big slab of bacon. Service seemed kind of busy due to the amount of people here. The ambiance of the facility is really nice. It felt very open and a lot of lighting with all the windows. The staff here are friendly as their other location.
5/5 Stars - I would legally marry this bacon.Listen, I came to Phoebe's Diner for brunch, but I left questioning every other meal choice I've ever made. The service was so fast and friendly I thought they were trying to prank me.Here is the breakdown of how they stole my heart: Phoebe Benedict: The poached eggs were so perfect they looked sculpted by Michelangelo. The hollandaise belongs in a museum. Biscuits and Gravy: Fluffier than a cloud and smothered in gravy that tastes like a warm hug from a Southern grandma. Pure, unadulterated comfort food. Side of Bacon: This isn't just bacon. It is a thick-cut, crispy masterpiece. Pretty sure it's the best bacon in Austin, if not the entire universe. Pro tip: Get on their Yelp Waitlist early unless you enjoy staring longingly through the window at strangers eating your future meal. 10/10 will be back to eat my weight in pork products.
Took a trip to Austin to see our son and asked him about this place. His response, "I've always wanted to try it, but it always has a line out the door." Well, we lucked out - apparently it's dead in Austin during the holidays. I had looked at the wrong location online and thought they had outdoor seating, so we brought the pup along, but when we arrived, I realized the mistake I made. I thought we'd have to get back in the Uber and find something else, but nope - bring that cute fella inside was offered! Score - dog friendly indeed! Service was excellent - drinks were never empty, and empty dishes were picked up quickly. Ensuring our food was to our satisfaction also occurred. The food was great! We opted to share the cornbread muffins to start. I opted for the fried chicken and grits. I loved the maple hot sauce - perfect balance of sweet heat. The pickled chilis were also a great addition to have some acid balance. The chicken was moist with a delightfully crispy breading, and the grits were perfect. Maybe a touch too much salt, but that's being nitpicky. I'd for sure come here again!

The diner is a cute little spot nicely decorated for Christmas and the staff was very nice and accommodating. When I called to make sure they were open, the hostess was very upbeat and welcoming. Our waiter was very attentive and checking to make sure we were taken care of. The food is very fulfilling with a unique take on their dishes. The shrimp and grits were very good but it had a lot of oils and butter. When transferring it to my to-go box, I had to drain the oils on the plate, so if you're on any kind of diet, you'll be set back for weeks lol but it's completely worth it! My boyfriend got the Brisket Benny, which looked really good but he wasn't a fan-yet ate it all lol. I tried the hash brown casserole and didn't really like it. I couldn't quite figure out what ingredient it had that made it have a weird herb taste to it but I would not recommend it and suggest another side. Overall it was a great experience as a brunch spot on our way home.
We came here during a busy time and surprisingly we were seated pretty quickly. The service was very good. Our waitress was pretty awesome, friendly, and helpful. Good oldies music played over the speakers in the restaurant which was enjoyable to just sit back, talk, eat and enjoy the music. The food was pretty good and I don't really have complaints about the entrees that we ordered. We ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, but I didn't really enjoy them. Overall, nice and clean environment plus good food. I'd actually give this place 4.5 stars if I could. read more

Phoebe's diner needs to be knocked down a notch in the review world. They don't have specialized coffee such as lates which is a bummer. Most of their meals includes a base of some sort of gravy which makes it hard to eat healthy. Even their omelets have gravy in them. Their grits taste like just gravy as well. They try to change a lot of classics and give them a gravy twist. Great if you're into that but I don't really like gravy with everything. The only healthy looking thing on the menu is a parfait. Waiter was nice and ambience is homey. We won't be back. Cafe Java is right down the street and knocks it out of the park. read more
Thought it was an old school diner, but definitely more upscale and instagram type of place instead. Nothing wrong with it, lovely for young people. Spacious seating with tvs at bar. Cute decor. Food: looking at the menu, nothing was truly appealing. It was $$$ and the ingredients just didn't look good. Ended up getting a la carte of sausage, eggs and french fries. The Sausage was delicious, would get two orders! Fries - gross. Get the tots! Seems like the chicken sandwich was good and so was the scramble. Parking was decent. The Domain was nearby so that's nice. Walk around after. Overall, it's cute and decent. But I rather eat at those old school diners, not this. read more

Quick trip to Austin and tried to find nice breakfast restaurant. Omg.. their service was absolutely amazing. Quick and friendly. Our server recommended foods and it was great!!!! We will definitely go back and try different menus,too. read more

After seeing reviews, my partner and I decided to stop by for brunch while visiting Austin. We arrived around 12:30 and the place was quite packed. However, we were greeted and sat immediately. The interior was modern and sleek with soft lighting and plants thought which I loved. Our waiter arrived shortly after we were sat and was very pleasant. He asked if we had questions about the menu. We were torn between breakfast or lunch entrees so we decided on breakfast. We started with the fried green tomatoes. My partner ordered the short stack with a side of bacon and grits. I opted for the Migas add Chorizo. The fried green tomatoes were cooked perfectly but had no flavor. It was pretty batter with absolutely no salt which was surprising. The potatoes that accompanied the Migas were actually the best part of the dish. The green Chorizo was ground and added inside of the eggs. It was barely noticeable and the entire dish lacked flavor. It was quit mushy to say the least. The pancakes were very dense. The side of bacon was literally one piece of extremely thick bacon. The plus is that the flavor was good. And the grits.. were sweet and cheesy; which wasn't a good thing. I'm usually a sweet grits girl and my partner cheesy. However, it's one or the other.. not together. Also, they were way too thick. All in all, not sure if it was a bad day but the food didn't line up to the reviews unfortunately. read more

Service was attentive and friendly. Environment pleasant to be in. I ordered a La Maria (Bloody Mary made with Tequila). It was very good. I had Phoebe's Benedict and the jury is still out on it. I asked the eggs be poached as they serve over easy eggs on their dishes with eggs. They were poached nicely. The dish was served on 2 large biscuits. The ham was flavorful and not cut well for the dish. Part was cut very thick. The biscuits were tough and I could have used a steak knife for the ham and biscuits. Hollandaise was passable. I did not feel well the rest of the day and ate a scrambled egg for dinner. In retrospect I think there was way too much sodium in the La Maria and food. They served a scoop of hash brown casserole which was tasty. I'll give them another try. read more

Food presentation was awesome. Quality was ok, definitely overpriced. In addition they put sugar in just about everything that we had, including the biscuits??? Also their brisket is not brisket, it is clearly chuck roast. But the mark up is outrageous. Ambiance and service we good though. read more

This days journey takes me to the states capital, looking for a good breakfast. I've been to this diner near the capital building but today I'm farther away but still was craving a wonderful breakfast. It so just happened that my craving was to be satisfied with a diner is also located in this area of Austin. The diner in question is Phoebe's, if you know this place you know why this place is special. As you enter the restaurant you see a good amount of seating and the hostess takes you to your seat. If you are fortunate you are assigned Lilith (I hope I read her name correctly) to take your order, even though all the staff seem to be very friendly and qualified for the job upon them. As you are seated you are asked for your drink order I choose a cup of coffee, which was excellent and promptly refilled, now the adventure begins choosing what you'll have for breakfast. I selected the Brisket Burrito, it's an item I've chosen before and I wasn't disappointed here. The brisket was tender and very flavorful and it was paired with a wonderful salsa and outstanding potatoes. I highly recommend this place, it has a good vibe and great atmosphere and the food is always on point. read more

Phoebe's dinner is a hidden gem. A friend and I decided to have lunch/brunch at the diner. Phoebe's is as the name implies a diner - warm & welcoming and a bit understated! Fortunately, we decided to meet at 11 am as shortly thereafter a plethora of diners flooded in. While there a good number of folks in the restaurant, the noise level was low making it very easy to converse. Gillian our server recommended the 4 most popular dishes based on our query. We decided to try the chicken biscuit, one of the four. My friend went with over easy eggs (as outlined in the menu) and I went with eggs whites (very easily accommodated at no additional cost.) OMG the chicken biscuit was a mountain of textures and flavors...all delightfully delicious!!! We also had a side of sage gravy and goat cheese grits. Every bite was uniquely flavored...an explosion of pleasure in your mouth!! We both agreed that we would return to try other dishes offered at the dinner. Run do not walk to Phoebe's diner!!! read more

This time around I had the super crispy Fried Chicken Biscuit. Phenomenal! I declined the sweet pepper jam and did the sage gravy instead as pictured. Man was this good. Especially dipping the crisp new potatoes in that gravy! The yolks on the egg were bright orange which is evident of nutritious pasture eggs. Rich and delicious. My friend had the Phoebe's Benny and unfortunately the ham was like a piece of rubber. It was not even chewable. Seriously overcooked or just a really bad piece. Overall this restaurant is really good for homemade and unique recipes. It also has reasonably priced entrees except for the tiny glass $4.25 coffee drinks and one slab of bacon for $5.50 which is quite excessive. read more

Phoebes is a cute rustic modern diner with yummy food! My friends and I went for breakfast so not too sure about their lunch food. We didn't have a wait at all to be seated, however I would definitely join the waitlist. The after church rush is real. The pancakes were moist and decently sized, drip coffee was amazing, and the scrambled were the best scrambled eggs I have ever had! My only complaint was our friend ordered chocolate milk that tasted like regular whole milk. If I was allowed to give half stars this would be a solid 4.5 for me! read more

Phoebe's Diner remains one of my favorite brunch spots in Austin. When my friend announced we'd go here for her birthday brunch I was excited. Her cat got sick and she couldn't come, but a few of us met for brunch anyways. I'd never been to this North location, but even though it's a farther drive, it might be the most convenient due to ample parking and short wait times. Ignore my last review, because I accidentally reviewed the wrong location. An added bonus for this location is the availability of outdoor seating. I decided to branch out and order something different - the smoked beet hash. It was good, maybe even delicious, but not quite as good as other things I've tried from Phoebe's. The whole time I was jealous of my friends' mozzarella omelet and crab cake benedict. We agreed it was so good we'd have to return. Fortunately, the birthday friend wants to go out this weekend, and Phoebe's is still her restaurant of choice. I'll be back to try something new! read more
Came here for brunch on a Sunday and was impressed by how quickly we got seats using the waitlist feature on Yelp- would recommend! For an appetizer we both tried the South First Tots (I thought it was excellent and very filling, with a little bit of heat from the jalapeños) As my main dish, I got the chorizo hash and swapped the meat out for brisket. The meal was very filling and flavors well balanced between the salty brisket, perfect over easy egg, sweet potatoes and guacamole. My boyfriend got the chicken fried steak (gluten free option) and while it was tasty as well, the steak was cut a bit too thick for our liking and wasn't as conducive to being battered and fried IMO. Overall, both dishes were played very nicely. Overall ambiance was lively and while it could get a bit loud in there during peak brunch hour, it wasn't unbearable. Our server was very sweet and checked up on us throughout. For the price I feel like we got a lot of food for the price. Will visit again! read more

Great experience overall! The service was excellent--everyone was friendly and welcoming, and our food came out quickly and fresh. I had the nitro chata to drink, which was very good. The Phoebe Benedict was absolutely delicious; the ham was cooked perfectly, and the hollandaise sauce was spot on. The hash brown casserole was also good, and the portion size was very generous--I couldn't finish it. The biscuits were tasty, though they had more of a cornbread-like texture. Overall, a great meal and I'd definitely return. read more

Phoebe's is one of my go-to spots to take guests and friends, when they are in town visiting. This location is great for inside or outside seating. We had a dog with our group and we were easily set outside and they brought a bowl of water for her too. The food is always on point. The selection of food is unique and special, not just your typical breakfast food. We always start with the cornbread and the sides (butter and jam) to pair the cornbread with is so good. Their breakfast brisket burrito is absolutely amazing! Big enough for 2 people or to take home for leftovers. And the hash brown casserole comes with it is just as good, you have to try it! The bake eggs dish is a cool dish you don't expect, very good. Their drinks are great. And the decor inside is fun and cute. read more

We love diners and just found out about this location. It was cute inside with a mix of tables and booths. The staff is friendly and so very hard working. Food was delicious with just a few misses. Biscuit and sausage gravy - incredible! We couldn't get enough. Goat cheese grits - so creamy and good. Brisket Benny - very good, though the flavors of the bbq sauce and hollandaise sauce clashed a bit. The side of hashbrown casserole had absolutely no flavor. It was the only thing we ordered that we absolutely didn't like at all, and unfortunately, it went uneaten. Fried Green Tomato BLT was so very good, and the jalapeno remoulade brought everything together in a delightful way. I prefer crispy bacon, but this sandwich had very thick-cut chewy bacon. The tater tots were over-fried, so was just burnt oil in the middle. Brisket burrito and side of red potatoes was delicious. The salsa provided with it is of the smoky variety for those that have a preference one way or the other. There are so many things to try on the menu that I'm sure will be back to give it another go. read more

We love Phoebes!!!!!! We have been here a few times and have always had the most wonderful time This time we got the horchata French toast (seasonal item) and the mozzarella omelette and the food was incredible!! The tomato gravy on the omelette is so crazy good. The drinks are really good as well. I've enjoyed the mimosas every time. Ambiance is fantastic. Gives a classic diner feel that I think is pretty rare in Austin. The service is really what to write home about. All the times we have been here our servers have been incredible no matter how busy it got. This time we had Beth and she was just fantastic!! Love this place will always recommend. read more

Our last dining experience in Austin before heading back to Boston. And it was great! Very cute ambience-old fashioned diner look. Our server, Ry, was super friendly and enthusiastic and offered up their suggestions and favorites to help us order. I had the Natalie's juice which was refreshing and tasted yummy healthy. My husband had the brisket Benny which was fabulous! I had the shrimp and grits, and as Ry noted, the goat cheese made the grits extra creamy and provided a bit of tang. We also had the fried green tomatoes but we were so full that we only had a few bites. We brought them back to our hotel in hopes of snacking on them later but regrettably, we left them in our hotel fridge. Great ending to a fun weekend getaway! read more
Came here for a group brunch last weekend and overall had a great experience with the food, beverages, service, and overall ambiance! I normally pass by Phoebe's when driving from the Domain, and because of its location by a busy, traffic-ridden road, I never considered it as a place worth checking out. My sister was the one who suggested it after we decided to do a group lunch on a Sunday morning and wanted to pick a convenient location in North Austin. Getting a table at 9:30am was no issue. That's probably the sweet spot in regards to snagging a table during competitive weekend brunch hours. We were also able to eat outside, which was a refreshing change since the summer months in Austin prevent that from being an option! I got black coffee, which was pretty standard in regards to black coffee offerings from brunch spots. For my meal, I got the baked eggs which sounded intriguing, but it was actually more like a tomato soup with two poached eggs mixed in...the toast was nicely buttered and crunchy though! Our server was friendly and attentive, and overall, dining here was a pleasant experience! read more

Well, after a few visits since the opening this year, I'm bumping down to a solid 3.5 stars. There's plenty to like at Phoebe's but there are other brunch options in the area with better-prepared food at a better price-point and Phoebe's could improve along those lines. Things I like: - varied menu with something for every taste or health preference - the dining room & outdoor spaces are large enough that the wait is usually not bad - staff is friendly and responsive - that French Toast - decent enough brunch alcohol options for those who want that Things that annoy: - most menu items are over-the-top, over-seasoned, over-sauced calorie-bombs; so much cheese, salt, & grease - prices are high for breakfast basics - parking is tough during peak hours - aggressive birds nesting on the covered porch will attack you throughout your meal if you sit out there During my last visit, I was disappointed by the chile relleno that came with undisclosed (what appeared to be) Hot Cheeto coating. Why would you ruin a delicious, already spiced dish with that abomination? To make matters worse, the scrambled egg stuffing was overcooked to the texture of a shredded Croc (the shoe for Dads). With Taco Deli, Cafe Java, and Original Pancake House so close, I'll likely choose one of those over Phoebe's for my next family brunch outing. read more
There's always a wait here, but that's how most of Austin is and it usually indicates that the food is going to be very good. I tried the monthly special and the ribeye inside the omelette was excellent. The rest of the dish was just strange. Boursin cheese worked well with the meat, but I don't think it benefited from the Demi glacé at all. And the mashed potato? I'm not sure how that fits in but it was tasty. Weird but good. I think I would have preferred the whole thing to not be an omelette because it just didn't make sense while eating it. Separately everything had good flavor. Together it didn't. The restaurant was a regular diner and was clean and not too noisy. I think I'd come here again and try the chicken... read more

After seeing this establishment on Instagram, I knew I had to try it. Spenser was our server, and he was invaluable. He recommended excellent choices. The restaurant was cute and clean. We got a book of dad jokes to keep us entertained, but our service was speedy and excellent. Now to the best part of the experience...THE FOOD! We ordered chicken fried mozzarella and fried green tomatoes for the appetizer, and boy, was it DELICIOUS. I've never had fried green tomatoes before, but I was impressed. Next, we had chicken-fried steak and a brisket burrito, a fried chicken sandwich, and deep-fried French toast, Badass bacon and eggs, and two stacks of pancakes. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. The only issue I had was the minimal amount of brisket in the humongous burrito. 10/10 read more
