It was one of our first times getting out and socializing since the quarantine started. It was so nice to get out of the house, catch up with our family outside, socially distanced in the park next to Desert Vista High School. I'm typically not a huge fan of shaved ice or snow cones, don't get me wrong, I like them, just wouldn't make a trip specifically to get one. But, this little shaved ice truck is fantastic! The two people inside were wearing masks and gloves and were incredibly friendly and helpful. The small truck was very clean and cool and well done. They have a million different flavor combinations and were happy to share their favorites and recommendations. Turns out, all of their syrups and flavors are homemade, you could definitely taste that! We got eight different iced, flavors and flavor combinations and everybody loved them. We sat in the shade of some tall trees in our camping chairs in the grass. Temperature was 90°, but somehow it felt like 75°, it was beautiful and the cool ice treats probably helped with that. The ice is very light and melts quickly in your mouth leaving just the fantastic flavors. You don't feel like you've eaten a bunch of sugar and you're not full, just refreshed. I definitely recommend Phoenix Phreeze. Even making it a regular thing, a tradition, trying different flavors and combinations. It feels like a family owned, caring, comfortable, "homey" experience. I consider this my mobile mom & pop shop as they were located at Tempe South Completx (Baseball field) throughout our baseball season and were considered to be the number one go-to spot for all the families. We had other specialized food trucks rotate in and out as many parents were there for a while on baseball nights, but Phoenix Phreeze was a nice consistent stop for many. They carry the essentials, hotdogs, chips, candy, sodas as well as other items like nachos. The one thing that always brought me to this stand was the shaved ice and all of the flavors to go along with it. Definition of shaved ice is exactly what I had in mind. The price is great and they pack the ice night and tight in one of 3 size cups. I like that they add the flavor so it's just the perfect amount and not leaving it too sugary sweet with the syrup coming through the bottom of the cup. Basis for my starred ratings (which skews heavily to the food or drink): 1 star: Never again. 2 stars: Poor food, poor experience, extraordinary measures in order for me to come back. 3 stars: Average, nothing really special, nothing particularly bad. 4 stars: Very good, would definitely return. 5 stars: A favorite, one of the best. This truck was unexpectedly good. Granted it was free (not taking that into consideration), but based on taste alone, I'd come back to it. It;s not snow, and it's not a snow cone. Hawaiian shaved ice is probably the closet approximation I can give it. Or old school ppat bing soo ice. So it definitely crunches when you bite into it, but the crystals are pretty small so they melt quickly on your mouth. Got pina colada flavoring and it was great. Refreshing and sweet. Be warned. It was 108 and sunny the day we went and it started to melt QUICK. read more

Love the lights they added to the outside along with high stools and a grass umbrella for shade. Too cute. Service is great, now run by a very sweet family. Ice is delicious and drinks are very cold. I put on a charity event and Phoenix Phreeze came out to the event. Kurt and Lucy were wonderful, the shaved ice was soooooo good and everyone loved it! They showed up on time, provided great service with a smile! What more could you ask for? Unfortunately, I should have read Tara's review before we booked them for our spring carnival at our school in Tempe on 5/1/2015. We have a working relationship with Kona Ice, but they already had an event scheduled for that afternoon. So I reached out to Phoenix Street Food Coalition to see if they had any members that could fill I needs. Daniel Brennen responded to my email and said that he would love to work our event. I had mentioned to him that we were anticipating 700-1000 people, and that he would be the only shaved ice vendor. He also mentioned that he had a hot dog cart that he could bring as well, which we thought would be perfect. He said that he would donate 25% of the proceeds from both products back to the school after he reached his minimum, which was $250. We thought we had found another strategic partner that could work with our school(s) moving forward. I say schools because I am part of a charter district that has 16 campuses in the valley. Mr. Brennan could have stumbled upon a goldmine. Needless to say, I get a call at 5:30 (the event started at 5:00 and I was at a different school at that time) wanting to know when the other Food Truck was going to arrive. Thankfully I had found another vendor (Salosh and Deeds of Flavor Chalet food Truck 480 495 5704) to handle sandwiches and fries, owned by true professionals who understood customer service and verbal agreements. When I tried to call, Mr. Brennen's phone went straight to voice mail. I sent repeated emails that, as of this morning, have not been answered. Having been in business for myself in the past, his lack of customer service is both appalling and unacceptable. I don't care if he makes himself look stupid or irresponsible, but when he makes me look bad to my peers because I'm the one who brought him in, well then, I'll make a point to let everyone who will listen know what an unethical business owner he is. Based on his reviews so far, I doubt he'll be in business much longer. Hopefully this will help others to not make the same mistake we did. read more

I just went to the annual spring carnival with my seven-year-old son and four-year-old daughter. Of course they wanted to get shaved ice when they saw this truck. I was surprised at the quality of the shaved ice, with lots of yummy flavors, at a decent price. My son said he would bet that this place gets five stars on yelp, I checked and was surprised at the relatively low review rating. I have known Lucy and Kurt for several years having worked with Lucy. I stopped by their truck the first time this summer at Ahwatukee Eats and while I'm not a fan of Shaved Ice (thought it was really just for kids) I actually enjoyed it and they were so kind to my two doggies as well setting them up with a bowl for water. BAD BUSINESS! I usually don't do this (blast people), but this I just can't let slide. This company agreed to be a part of my Spring Fling Fundraiser a month before the event, no questions asked. When it came down to the last day (literally 5 hours before the event), they wanted a guarantee from me that they would make $250 in sales. I reiterated this was a fundraising event, and I could make no guarantees on their sales. I told them I hoped they would still come since I had been promoting their business for over a month and if they had any losses, the best I could do would be to write them a tax deductible receipt for those. And no shit, now with 4 hours left until the event, they don't even take the common courtesy to respond to that email. That is not the way you gain customers. That is not the way you do business. Your reputation should be your bond. So disappointed because to love to support local businesses. That was a pretty shady way to duck out and I hope karma catches up. We should work together in a community to support each others endeavors wether it be charitable or business. You never know the next time you need someone to scratch YOUR back... but maybe they'll just be behind you with a sharp object instead. read more

I hired Phoenix Phreeze for a function, they provided awesome customer service-even during a brief sand storm! They offer so many different flavors -wedding cake would be my favorite- that it's not like your standard carnival shaved ice experience! They were a huge hit with everyone and their little cart is so cool that it is an attraction all by itself. Hands down a great way to impress customers! read more
