Simply the best burgers. We like them even more than the famous In and Out. We prefer the Double Cheeseburger over the single because the balance or meat and cheese is ideal. I do have to warn you, they put a whole onion slice and whole tomato slice on the burger; each as big as the whole burger. I usually have to pull 1/2 the slice apart/off if I ever want to kiss my wife again. The handcut fries are so good they are still tasty after a few hours when they are cold; how many places can say that about their fries? The long dogs are beefy and smoky and seriously long. This is by far the best old school style burger place in the PNW. Be aware that it is cash only but the burgers here are a perfect blend of grease but quality taste. So one day my friend and I took to discussing our love of precious, all-american drive in joints. Anyways, living down the street from Frisko Freeze and as a vegetarian I came to this place with high expectations for my staples - milkshakes, french fries, and grilled cheese! I had a peach shake and it was amazing. One of those where your eyes kind of bug out because you suck so hard trying to get at that peachy goodness. My grilled cheese, however, left something to be desired :[ Now don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting them to whip out some fancy bread and cheese - but come on, $2 for a hamburger bun and a couple slices of rubbery american cheese? Heard good things from a friend about this place so I decided to stop by for lunch. Got in line behind this African American couple. An older man walked up a minute later and stood next to me like there was no line. The cashier finished helping the couple in front of me and this guy cut in front of me and she began to serve him instead of me. I let her help him and when she came to do my order I mentioned he cut in line in front of me. She acted like I didn't say anything and begin to take my order. Found out this place was cash only so I decided to leave. Not a very pleasant visit. Quite honestly I don't want to support a business that allows people to cut in line. read more

One of the better burgers I have had recently but I am still in search of a burger that knocks my socks off. Pick Quick always has a line but I happened to be driving by at 10:30 and there were only a couple of folks so an early lunch it was. Ordered the Double Burger and a French Fry. The Double gets you two patties adding up to a 1/4 pound with a lot of sliced white onion, tomato and a couple of pickles. The dressing is mayo on the top bun and what looked like a pickle tarter sauce or maybe just mustard, mayo and relish mixed together. The beef had a good flat top flavor and the onion was sweet even considering the amount they put on. I was disappointed with the Fries though. They had good color but were a bit limp. Most disappointing was that they had very little if any potato flavor. I'm not sure how you do that but there you go. I would go back for the burgers but I think I'll try the chili next time instead of the fries. read more

This is the ultimate outdoor burger joint in the Tacoma area. When summertime arrives, I can almost smell the juicy burgers, crips french fries and their delicious milkshakes from my house! They have a very basic menu (similiar to Dick's in Seattle), but that is what makes this place so great. I would compare their burgers to the one's from "In and Out Burger." The cheese is melted perfectly and you can even get grilled onions upon request. I usually splurge for the triple bacon cheese burger with a side of fries and a small strawberry shake. All this food only sets me back about 8 dollars and my happiness level increases dramatically! Be prepared to wait 15-20 minutes upon arriving since this place gets busy (you can see all of the customers off of Pacific Hwy). It is well worth the wait and you can usually strike up a casual conversation with the rest of the burger hungry customers that are waiting to pass the time. If you have a burger craving and are ok with consuming 1200 calories of pure deliciousness, give Pick Quick a try! read more

I don't know what the hype is about this place. We had double cheeseburgers and the meat was super thin and not hand made. The fries were hand cut but they were soggy- either not cooked long enough or not hot enough. We had a vanilla milkshake that was undrinkable- had to use a spoon. They apologized when they handed it to us "saying" they made it too thick. It was just softserve fake icecream. I like real shakes better. It is kinda neat how they have picnic tables outside.... although you are between 99 and the freeway.... I guess this has new owners that want to franchise it. The stand is really cute and lots of lovely picnic tables to eat at. It was a gorgeous day to eat outside and so many pretty flowers to look at in the warm breeze! Be warned! It's cash only but there is an ATM at the gas station right next door so no worries! Their standard pickle on a burger is a sweet pickle slice and they use brown mustard. I thought it was delicious and you may too! They forgot cheese on my girls' burgers and I got takeout so I didn't know until I got back but it was OK (: The fries were the real tato handcut kind and those are not my favorite type but they were good for that type! And the cherry marshmallow shake I got just outrageously yummy! YUM YUM! Overall I would go again - would definitely take my dad there for lunch next time he is in town. YAY, I was finally able to come here today. I thought the burger was wayyy above average than other places. With smaller patties, the condiments made up for them. Perfect for this sunny day. Was at the Nissan dealership and decided to get some food while our car was getting serviced. Came across this little mini 50s style walk-in/drive-in burger place that only takes cash. Sure! Let's give this place a try. Surprisingly, because of how the placed looked...it was yummy! Cheeseburger with everything on it (mayo, ketchup, mustard, onions, pickles, tomatoes and relish) and a Coffee Milkshake. The meat patty is a bit flat but you could still taste the juiciness. The milkshake was thick and cooling! Remember to ask for a spoon. :) Also, the picnic tables outside add a great touch to this establishment. Ok I had to try this place since I read the reviews and it was on my way up to Seattle. I stopped in around lunch time and the line was about 8 people deep. Not a big deal, I got in line and waited. I ordered the double cheese burger with everything on it, plus a fry and a vanilla malt. After a good 10 minutes, they called my order. Here is where I get into the "meat" of this place and give you my two cents. The burger itself, smelt delicious BUT, the actual taste of the burger did not give me one of those "wow moments", you know what I'm saying? I've had just as good burgers from Frisco Freeze or Big Toms Drive in. Good stuff, but not a "holy sh*t" I gotta stop here more often. The fries were very good, and I can say they are equal to Dicks Drive-In down by Ballard. Now, if you want a great Malt or shake, this is the place. Excellent flavor and thicky thick. So thick, you can't suck it up through a straw right away.. :) I have yet to try the Coney or Chili Fries, so stay tuned. Again, neat little old place, very small, about 6 people working inside and pumping orders out constantly.. Great money making place. Burgers are good but did not blow me again and the malt did. Hooray for Pick Quick! I'm even willing to forgive the antiquated cash-only policy. (There's an ATM in the gas station next door if you forget) The burgers are super affordable but on the small side. Just order the double or the triple it wont break the bank and you'll be satisfied. I prefer a slightly toasted bun for extra crunch, but the over all flavor is solid. Beefy, not overly seasoned, and not too greasy. Normally I'm unimpressed with "hand-cut" or "natural" fries. Most burger shacks forgo the doubly frying method necessary to achieve maximum crispy-ness. These did not disappoint. The shakes are top notch too. The vanilla malt was rich and creamy while the banana was fresh with real banana chunks. The seating area is outside, but well maintained with fresh flowers and regularly cleaned picnic tables. They're closed December and January but we'll be back often between now and then. read more

I debated on putting a three or four on this. This is a really good fast food place to stop, one of the most high quality ones, at least. But, I felt everything lacked flavor. There was nothing here that made me thing that the burger was one of the best I'd ever had, which I don't think they're going for. I think the point of this place is to be a fun place for a picnic-like feel, and I really like it. A great place to come with friends on a hot day in the summer. I recommend it. Went for Mothers Day the line wasn't long so we gave it a go. It took an hour to get our food and my Coney Dog was burned beyond being edible and the fries were grease soaked. I ate chili on bread for Mothers Day seriously disappointing :( they need to work on leaning this business out. Wonderfully cute burger stand with pleasant picnic seating. The grilled onions on the burger were a nice touch, but couldn't save it from dull bun and a dry patty. It was all too reminiscent of a fast food burger. That said, the fries were fantastic - as close to Dick's fries as you can find in Tacoma. I've only been once, though, and for another couple orders of those fries I'll give the burger a second chance (without the sweet relish this time) and see if it's any better. read more
