My first korean bbq and boy it was one amazing experience! First the decor and set up of the restaurant is truly inviting. I love the bench set up! I am a huge fan of the wide bench look and the simple big tables. And the Christmas lights really give it the full korean dynamic. The buffet is set up righr in the center so easy access and the staff is truly active and very aware of the customers needs. Now to the food...it was really tasty and delicious! The beef was super tender and full of juicy flavor. Very addictive! The squid was super chewy but very delicious! The sausage was yummy and the spicy chicken and pork was really good. The salad was really tasty and sweet a nice compliment to the meat. The price was decent for the amount of food we ate and it was so worth it. I have spent just as much on restuarants where the food was less and good but not as amazing. So definitely worth going. read more

All you can eat Korean bbq for $25 (dinner) -- you can't beat that! Mmm....yummy. We came here for a family dinner on a Sunday night and the place was crowded, but not overly crowded. Stick to the kalbi - it's tender and delicious. You can also get assorted other raw goods to grill at your table, but we deemed the kalbi to the be the best option...After a while we had to admit that it was a bit too much meat, but soo good! Since it's buffet style, you go up and pick your meats (they also have cooked food as well). The servers come by to cut up the meat and change your grill when it gets too burnt. 2.5 Warnings: 1. The vents in this place are a bit weak even though they shake like mad when they are on. 2. This means that you shouldn't wear anything that you would like to wear again the next day. Definitely wear a second day outfit here because you will smell after eating here. Personally, I bring plastic bags with me to save my heavier coats/jackets during the colder months. Even then, it doesn't really help considering the clothes you wear underneath smell. 3. Don't come here being all cute and stuff because your makeup will run and your hair will smell along with your clothes. It would also be best not to bring any fabric bags; leather bags are fine though. Again, it's the smell problem. 4. The bathrooms here are crappy. The last time I was there, I wasn't even able to use the bathroom because someone was in it. There's only one bathroom for each gender. The women's bathroom is the worst. But the men's bathroom door is partially rotted away from water damage. 5. Unless you live in Queens, it's a bit out of the way for what you get. Review: I've been to Picnic Garden more times than I can count. It used to be a good experience. For one, it used to be less than $30 per person on a weekend dinner. Now, for a weekday dinner it's over $30 and that includes tip. I still hate the ride out there. It's so out of the way. I used to love all the meats because they were marinated well and it was fairly clean for how busy it gets. Now, the meats aren't as well marinated. The quality of the meats have decreased over the years and it's disappointing. With the prices going up and the quality decreasing, I was really wondering why I was even there the last time I had dinner there. I could have had a much satisfying meal in Koreatown in Midtown for around the same price without the long train ride and smell on my clothes and hair. The pros now, it's not as busy as it used to be. There aren't ridiculously long waits any more. The last few times I was there, I was seated almost right away. They have changed some of the waiters. A lot of them are much nicer. However, there's this one lady who has been there forever and she's still a bit grouchy all the time. Like she was changing our grill and she used the wrong side of that special clamp and she literally groaned and shot us some nasty looks. It wasn't even our fault and it wasn't serious. We had this really nice waitress who was really sweet even though she forgot to give my friend another glass of water. They still don't realized that they should always give us the pitcher of water with the cups at the start of the meal. It's always less annoying to do so because we don't need to keep asking for water. They have finally started to give every table tongs to use to grill. It took them years to do this. Now, I wish they gave us scissors because I'm sick of them doing it for me. They also change the grills way too much now. Our grill was barely cooked on when they kept changing. Then once it started to get hot, they changed it again. They also don't care if you have one side almost cooked meat with raw meat on the other side. They would literally change the grill and toss everything on it and mix it up. So the meat that could have been perfectly cooked would need to cook longer because it touched the raw meat. But it would need to stay on the grill longer because the grill takes so long to heat since most of the grills are a bit deformed now. The cooked food are a bit nasty. I had the chicken wing which wasn't very good at all. Kimbap wasn't good either; no flavor. We also had the scallion pancake; that was seriously very very bad. The rice was a bit mushy that night. I know that you don't come here for the cooked food but when the raw stuff are cooking, you have to much on something. The meats aren't that good here anymore. There's flavor but it's not the best. They used to be so flavorful and so delicious. Now, not so much. I don't think it's a good value anymore. It's way too expensive to eat a whole bunch of mediocre meats when you can get a normal plate of really good meat for the same price at a regular Korean restaurant. I only really eat the really popular meats so they have a decent turnover. I'm not sure about the other meats. They don't try to kick you out anymore once you tell them that you don't need to grill any more. But I guess that would change depending on the wait. There was a group that was waiting but we weren't being rushed or anything. The bill was $25.99+tax for a weekday dinner. Do I think it's worth all the trouble? No. I don't think it's worth the train ride, the smelly belongings, the awful bathroom, the little annoyances, and the mediocre food. I don't think I will be back any time soon. I will probably take some friends from out of town here if the area they are from don't have decent Korean food. Only then would the whole experience be worth it. read more

Really good ! Went there for the first time today for lunch and it's a really good deal. Paid ~18 dollars for an all-you-can-eat-korean-bbq-buffet. Doesn't get any better than that! Rather than serving banchan to each table individually, everything's in the buffet trays. The lunch buffet ends promptly at 4:00pm (It starts at 11am). I will definitely come back to this place! The only sort of complaint I have is that the place doesn't really have good ventilation; you walk in and you're sorta hit with a wall of bbq smoke but you get used to it quickly, I guess. read more

I/we are big fans of Korean BBQ, so the whole family came here for lunch. Great selection of meats and veggies to grill. We enjoyed the bulgogi (sliced beef), the spicy pork and chicken. Best though was the galbi (bone in short ribs) which were well marinated and tender. The mushrooms and onions also add great flavor and variety to the meal. Among the banchan (sides), the miso soup was bland, kimchee was tasty. Service was OK, the girls come and cut the meat with scissors and change out the grill trays. Just beware, the multiple trips back and forth to the bar and tending the grill while fun, can end up being a full time job! This place is okay. I would have given it 5 stars if the service was better. We arrived at 3:15 and we asked for the lunch one, and the woman said at 4 we can't take anything else. We were fine with that. The food was pretty good, I enjoyed cooking the meat right in front of us! Of course this is a buffet so we ran around like mad men grabbing anything and everything! It was all really good. Then at 4 on the dot the woman turned off the oven. And 5 minutes later she came to us with the check and said "ok excuse me I'm sorry but pay now." And pointed at the check. We weren't even close to done eating! It was so rude! We just payed her and then she left. 10 minutes later I hear the table behind me say "excuse me check please!" And she brought it to them. I turned around and looked at her. I thought it was normal to just tell customers to pay but obviously not! I was appalled. Then ten minutes later she came by and said "you have to go soon." Second time going and my mom and priest (yes priest) joined me. It was an early dinner for my 25th bday he took us out. I knew I was going to love it but I was nervous about them. My priest loved the kimchi and my mom all she could say was "please get more beef". I taught them how to make the ssambap and we all ate a lot of it. Japchae maybe I had forgotten what it tastes like or I just got to much of it I struggled to eat it. The only problem was the girl going around with the scissors didn't refill our water but asked us if we wanted more soda. Coincidentally the water is free but not the soda but I don't drink soda like that. All in all I want to go back it's the only food that does not get me sick at all. All I want is ssambap. First of all the place is gross, I mean the ceilings and light fixtures look really dirty, some light fixtures were turning black. I don't know if it is mold or smoke or just so much dirt and grease. The floors are so greasy that they are slippery. There were buckets to collect water leaking from the ceiling. Ok now that I got that out of the way. I feel bad that I even stayed to eat but I did think the food was tasty, I like their short ribs and noodles most. The people were nice and attentive. I can see how people would fill up on the prepared food since it takes a little to cook the meat. Place still looks beat up and run down just like back then 10 years ago, the food taste about the same everytime I come here, service is definitely 100% better than I remembered. One bad thing is if you look above your head you will see a bucket that looks like either it there for leaks during rain from the ceiling or oil from the vents sucking up the smoke. After a long day, we decided to come here for dinner. We come in and there is a wait with about 5 small or medium size groups. The waiting area doesn't even have seats. I came with my wife and my 6 month old son in a stroller. The girl taking the reservations tells me there won't be space for a stroller. So now i take the car seat out the stroller and bring the stroller back to my car. That should have been my sign to just leave. Now we are standing there for 20 mins and there are groups of people who came after us getting seated before we do. I ask the girl what's going on and she says that she isn't going by the number order in which she gave us. Another 20 mins go by and they are still seating people with groups of 4 and 5 but not us. Finally I asked the girl, "what the hell is going on and why they are seating other people before us? We are only three seats but you are seating people with 4, 5 or more. There is no reason why we can't be seated at those tables unless you have triangle tables." Her response was that she is only doing what she is told to do. I told her that makes no sense and that isn't right. We are here with a baby. Finally after a whole hour, we get seats. Why we didn't leave, I don't know. Writing this is irritating me already so I will just cut it short. They have raw meats next to hot foods. This makes no sense to me because they have one large buffet that is half raw meats and half hot food. Then they also have one short buffet that is all hot food. Why wouldn't you make the short one just raw meats? Finally, when I paid the check with roughly exact amount in cash, the lady walks back a few steps and ask me what happened to the tip.she didn't realize we weren't done getting ready to leave and I had a cash tip ready to leave in my hand that I was going to leave on the table. These people have no courtesy or decency. They act as if they are doing you a favor. read more

This place is a jewel tucked away in Queens. For about $25 per person you get access to a very well stocked buffet table with excellent selection in meat and seafood. For the carnivores out there, this place is a must! On the downside, the restaurant is very crowded and noisy. My new favorite place! Lots of meat choices - and all you can eat! For about $20 a person, saturday/sunday lunch is great. All of the meat tastes great (even the funky stuff like liver, etc...). Will be coming here for a long time. The only complaint I have is the seating - large, double sided benches don't make for great privacy - not to mention there aren't all that many seats. Make sure you get there around 12 pm so that you get a good seat. I also would feel bad coming with only 1 other person - the tables are so large that I felt like I was taking up too much space. Other than that, this place is wonderful. Especially for someone like me who LOVES meat. read more
