First of all, it's beautiful! I can tell by looking at it that it was made with, love by someone who cares about quality. The flavor is absolutely amazing. I personally would like more spice to it, but the tomatillo sauce has the perfect tang, the pork is tender, and the cheese and black beans make a perfect compliment. I don't have words for the crust, it's ridiculously delicious, it holds together perfectly, yet it flakes apart in your mouth leaving a taste of buttery heaven. A must try! Ordered a few different pies from you so far from the chili verde to the strawberry rhubarb and have not been let down yet. Accidentally ordered a 10inch last time but it worked out perfectly as it was enough to be shared with family. This time I ordered the chicken bacon and experienced things to a whole new level as I baked it at home and the garlic butter crust smell was a treat that filled the air as it teased my appetite further as I waited for the golden crust to shine. These pies are tasty morsels! I have gotten the opportunity to try the pumpkin pie, the pecan pie (my fav) and the chicken pot pie (great for dinner, feeds up to 8, my kids love it! Tastes even better the next day). The crust is soooo buttery and flakey!! I think that's what tops off its rich flavors. Everything is made from scratch so you know you are getting a fresh pie. I have had only the matcha and the ube mini pies. At $6 per mouthful, I was expecting much more. I didn't totally mind the fillings because they are not common, but the taste was bland. The best way to describe the crust was crunchewy. Believed to be a variation of a pâté brisée or sucrée, it was hard to cut or bite through, then became almost sticky when chewing. I think the dough was overworked or refrigerated and not soft enough when rolled. I also have to believe the crusts are raw (or blind) baked, then filled...probably with pre-made, refrigerated fillings. Still...no filling deserves a crunchewy crust! A custard type filling needs a tender, but firm crust; a good paté brisée or sucrée work, depending on desired sweetness. A fruit filling (fresh ONLY--never canned garbage) must have a light, flaky (not necessarily puff pastry) crust. Finally, a savory pie (like shepard's pie) requires a softer, heavier, or maybe even shorter crust (hot water is a good option). If you don't know, don't bother asking. Ignorance is bliss. I have to believe the majority of reviews come from people who don't bake (or bake poorly). I'd like to rate higher because Ricky is a nice guy and does his best to appease the insane crowds that gather for his events. But, in a normal world, he should have kept his day job. Thankfully (for Ricky), the younger generations have more money than good taste. Best of luck! read more

Not sure what the hype is about, especially the crust. Read on the reviews and from friends about Pie Dreams. The first time I got the French Silk (the filling was great) but the crust was so hard, I thought it was just me so I decided to try again this Thanksgiving with their Pecan Pie... and SAME thing, the crust was rock hard. I followed his instructions to a Tee and still no luck. Had a hard time serving the pie to my family cuz even our sharpened knife couldn't cut through the rock hard crust. Warning this place with spoil you for any other pie. We loved the Santa pie for the holidays. Service was quick and we were lucky enough to buy a whole pie at the holidays without pre-ordering. Good bunch of people. From what I could tell it's a husband and wife team with their two polite and precocious kids helping at the front counter. It's a little, part-time operation which puts its heart and soul in to what they make. While not cheap, you get your money's worth. They take the time to explain everything when you ask about any of the pies. A real bonus for the Newark community, but try to go early in the day because they do tend to run out of the most popular selections. read more

Whole story: I bought a pie from Pie Dreams at the Fremont Art and Wine Festival. They had a booth and the pies looked fabulous, though somewhat pricey at $28. I figured a $28 pie must be the best pie in the world! I bought one; took it home; and cut it for some dinner guests. Imagine my disappointment when the filling ran out onto the plates! While a tasty filling, it was runny to the point that it destroyed the bottom crust of the pie. I emailed Richard Davis, the owner of the company, and he just fell all over himself to make this good. He not only replaced my pie with an absolutely fabulous blueberry/lemon pie, but he also refunded my money! I took the pie home, cut it for my guests, and was rewarded with one of the best pies I have ever had. Thick tender crust; perfect filling bursting with fresh blueberries; and perfect consistency!!! Even though a pricey pie, it was reminiscent of the pies my Nebraska mom used to bake. Go ahead and spend the money. You won't be disappointed. read more

So. Good. My friend had told me about Pie Dreams when they were first doing pop-ups. Finally got a chance to visit their shop. Was in search of a birthday pie, and with the help of the owner (I think) decided on peach. Also picked up some blueberry hand pies and a frozen pot pie to go. Each pie was AMAZING! First tired the hand pies, and they were so flaky and full of fruit. Something about their crust is extra special. Not too heavy and overwhelming like some pies. We tried the peach pie the next day, and it was also super delicious. Again, the crust was AMAZING! Everyone loved it. Fast forward a week later, and I just baked the chicken bacon pot pie. SOOOOO GOOD! Probably the best pot pie we've ever had! I'm already planning another trip to get more pie! The whole pies are pricey, but now I know they are totally worth it. I stumbled across pie dreams late in 2018 and decided to give their caramel apple pear pie a shot. Let me tell you, this is one of the best pies I've had The pie crust, apples, pears and caramel were delicious and flavorful. It was so good the whole pie was consumed within a few minutes (we shared with family of course). During thanksgiving I placed an order on a few pies to bring to our family parties (caramel apple and Hennessy pecan pie) as well. Our families and guests loved them. I ordered a Hennessy Pecan Pie from Ricky for my Dad's birthday and he loved it- he said it was one of his favorite pies! The pie was full of huge pecans and you could definitely taste the Hennessy (which happens to be my dad's drink of choice). I've had frozen pies, store bought pies, all sorts a fully/partially manufactured pies and nothing compares to Pie Dreams' fresh ingredients and overall taste! I've tried their pumpkin, apple pear, blueberry lemon, triple berry, pecan, chicken bacon (extra bacon please), lobster, cheeseburger, and thee Chile Verde. I have my favorites of course... My favorite sweet pie is the pumpkin. It is made not from pumpkin in a can, but from an actual pumpkin! This gives you an idea of the kind of pies being produced here, not manufactured at all. My favorite savory pot pie of all time is the Chile Verde. YUMMM!!! Has not changed since the first time I had it. Sometimes I'm craving this and get so bummed that it is not in rotation for sale during the week haha All of the pot pies are packed in, very generous fillings and no skimping with the buttery pie crust either! They are hefty fillings with tons of flavor- all the ingredients compliment one another so well and combined with a bite of the crust *drool* It isn't soupy/diluted like most pot pies I've tried. This is hands down my new favorite pie. My husband got me this pie yesterday and my first reaction was it looked beautiful and the crust looked buttery and flakey. It was freshly baked so it just needed to be heated up if you like your pie hot, but it also taste great at room temperature. He ordered me the Pear & Apple pie, it had all fresh ingredients and had plenty of filing with some cinnamon. The crust was fluffy, flakey and buttery which I've never had before with a pie.
